Just a few updates on this vet hospital…read more The vets here are still great. Very good with the animals and also great to deal with. Changes since the age of COVID. This updated review is from January 2023. NO BOARDING AVAILABLE: FYI since COVID, they no longer do boarding despite what their website says. That's a disappointing change for us. Also they recommended another vet for boarding which we tried. Our dog came home with a bacterial infection. $200 in vet bills later - yeah won't be using that option again. :(. LONGER WAIT TIMES: Due to catch up on surgeries plus a larger clientele list, you can expect to wait longer for a vet appt. Sometimes it's very difficult to get anyone on the phone. You get put on hold for long periods of time. They seem over-extended. I feel for the staff. They also suspended some of the promotions they used to do. So like most everything in the post-COVID world, expect your bill to be higher. They are still a pretty good vet with nice staff, but I have to say on a number of fronts, there are some detractors since 2020.

Two experiences here now…read more First over covid my husky with cancer - would never have let him stay here knowing how filthy it was after my second experience 5 days ago... My pug and his eye issues; walked away feeling talked down to like I wasted their time. Even apologized for it, like I enjoy wasting my own time and money. Also had a 250 dollar credit I found out 5 years later. So bizarre, no one could tell me how or why I wasn't updated. I can take rude Vets, I really don't care -health of my dogs over any doctors ego for sure. But the biggest red flag overall was how dirty it was (I was in 4 rooms total, unfortunately zero over covid-19 and I don't even want to imagine what that was like). My Husky walked out a different dog.

Awful Experience - Unprofessional and Irresponsible Service - Avoid VEC's Ophthalmology Department…read more I had an extremely upsetting experience with VEC Animal Hospital, particularly with Nicole (Ophthalmology receptionist) and Morgan, the HR manager. On Monday, May 5, I urgently requested a refill for my pet's critical eye medication, which had run out three days earlier. Nicole never returned my calls that day despite repeated follow-ups. On Tuesday, I was told the medication was essential and ready for pickup. When I arrived, one medication was incorrect, and the other was labeled "for clinic use only." I was promised a corrected and urgent delivery the next morning at no charge--but nothing arrived. On Wednesday, Nicole admitted she hadn't checked her messages, and only arranged for delivery after I paid. Still, the medication never came. I called again that night and canceled the order, deciding to go through my regular vet. Despite this, the medication was delivered Thursday morning--too late. When I spoke to Nicole, she blamed the courier and refused to take any responsibility. I then spoke with Morgan, the HR manager, who was shockingly rude and dismissive. She didn't apologize for the mistake or Nicole's negligent behavior during an emergency, and instead told me to find another facility to care for my "fluff baby." I'm beyond disappointed by this lack of professionalism and empathy. Mishandling critical medication could have seriously harmed my pet. I'll be filing a formal complaint. I do not recommend VEC's Ophthalmology department to anyone who values timely, responsible care.

One of my rats had some pretty bad medical problems and the doctors explained what was happening and all the options in detail. They've gone out of their way to help me and my rats multiple times. They truly care for your animals and you! Yes it may be a little be expensive some of the time but you have to take into consideration that they specialize in exotic animals and finding other vets that do this are extremely difficult.

Dr lukwald was so rude on the phine. he never allowed me to speak or address my concerns of them doing things without asking me first and charging me an exorbitant amount. he lectured me about vet science - instead of responding to my only ask. why did you do an exam whej I explicitly said not to. and why am I being charged for this. he never answered that and still I got charged. understanding if an exam is mandatory they should have said this whej I booked. I absolutely do not recommend. I never leave reviews but this experience warrants one.do not trust this clinic. absolutely terrible! I have since left and gone to another clinic. that clinic was validating that that type of practice should never have happened. nothing should be done to an animal with out owner consultation or consent. They also mentioned that we should not worry and bring him back if there were any other concerns. We are very grateful for all of their help. We would like to personally thank Dr. Emily Tsan. We would also like to thank the Triage staff (person who took our Frenchie in and also the one who brought him back out to us) and the help that we received from the Front Desk. We ended up here because we were advised by a friend. We had initially gone to the King Animal Hospital in King City and we were very disappointed with the service that we received. We were told that the wait time would be anywhere between 2-4 hours long. 4 hours came and went at which time we went to the Front Desk to inquire on an estimate to see how much longer the wait would be so we can arrange for a ride home, they told us that we still have a very long wait (that's the answer that we got). When we got there at 7:30 am, it was very quiet. It was just us and another couple with their dog. There was one examination room with a closed door and the rest of them were empty. There are a total of 12 examination rooms. We were not sure if there were other animals in Triage. It did start picking up after 9:00 am and at no time did any emergencies come in between 7:30 and 12:00 pm. We finally decided to leave and go to the Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital instead.

"What went well?"…read more This is a strange question as a prompt because I guess it didn't go as well as I wanted as my beloved for baby of 9 years passed away in my arms nearly 3 weeks ago when I was in my way there. The nurse who was at front desk immediately knew how to handle the situation and I was very grateful. I was an absolute mess. She was very mindful and made sure I had water to drink, and gave me some time in a silent room to allow me to grieve. She asked if I was comfortable with her temporarily taking my baby away so thát the head vet could properly announce her passing, and lovingly returned her with a large blanket wrapped around her. She then walked me through the process and let me take as much time as possible to address end of life options (as non-clinical as possible). I appreciated that she was so empathetic and very caring. It was what I needed at the moment. A week later I received a very heartfelt card with condolences. I just wanted to write back weeks later to say thank you for your kindness and warmth in a time of crisis. I'm a shell of a woman right now and sometimes I keep replaying the entire experience in my head, but I very much appreciate that my baby was tenderly taken care of even after her death.

Sadly, we spent a ridiculous amount of time here (sometimes going in as much as 3 times a week) and more money than we care to admit. Our dog was sick with some sort of inexplainable illness that lasted months and progressively got worse. They were very thorough, respectful of our wishes, and respectful of our financial situation. Time and time again they went out of their way to help us. By the end of our dog's life they weren't even charging us for visits, and were absorbing some of the costs of his care because we couldn't afford the treatment, yet no one could bare putting him down. Once we put him down the team cried almost as much as we did. For God's sakes - they even sent us flowers!! They treated our dog as if he was their own. Even if we move to Oakville (which will never happen, blech) we'd still bring our next pet here. They are amazing and have recently moved into a fancy new clinic! Thanks Kew Beach!

After his check up the vet said he needed to come back for yet MORE shots because of some non descript reason that I never heard of. Also he told me as an afterthought that my dog had a heart murmer and he knew a dog cardiologist that would look at him. He tried to make an appointment but I said no because I knew the Dr. was trying to milk more money from me. I know my dog and he is a very healthy 12 year old now. Just came back from our new vet in a smaller town for my dog's annual and the Dr. told me his heart is in excellent shape for a dog his age. I asked about the murmer and he said "What murmer? , your dog's heart is fine." It's a terrible shame that Blue Cross has sunk that low to attempt to financially bleed pet owners this way. I brought my dog to this clinic because she was acting strangely. The vet performed a physical exam, blood work, and X-rays, which all came back normal. Because she was still not acting right, I explicitly suggested maybe she was have Addison disease or any underlying hidden neurological or soft-tissue causes that standard tests cannot see. Unfortunately, this was not pursued, and we were sent home because the initial tests looked stable. I phoned the clinic again about the dog pain on and off when I approached to touch her. They prescribed pain reliever for 3 days and see if there's improvement but on the 3rd day of dose she manifesting a wobbly walk which I called immediately to the clinic. They booking me on the following day but my dog is dramatically declining. They checked it and prescribed another meds to see if she getting well or worse and sent home. The following day I brought again in the clinic in the morning because she's very critical condition. They suggested to confined her overnight to see if she gonna improved. Catastrophically, my dog passed away the next day of confinement by putting her to sleep. Even I don't want to accept it I let them to decide what the best for her. While I understand that initial blood work and X-rays were clear, 1 am incredibly disappointed that my worrying about my dog for any underlying unknown illness was not taken more seriously when her behavior was clearly abnormal. I hope the clinic uses this case to better listen to owners when they sense a hidden emergency even they saw the dog acting normal from them. I'm still deeply say thank you for all the staff to your support and accommodating me in the day when I was very emotional and heartache for the lost of my favourite dog."

Dr. Drabant was incredibly kind, informative, and supportive from the very beginning. The doctor walked me through everything and helped ease my anxiety during a really stressful time. My parrot had surgery the very next day, and even though it's still early in her recovery, she's already showing signs of improvement. I'll be returning for follow-up appointments, but I already feel confident recommending this clinic -- especially if you have a parrot or exotic pet. The entire staff was friendly and compassionate. I truly appreciate how well we were treated, and I'm so thankful for the care they've given my girl.
