It had been twice the time between my usual cuts, so I understood that a stylist might have to use her imagination to picture the "overall vibe" of my cut when freshly styled. Though some clients were happy with Winslow, the percent of appalling reviews from clients scared me away. I chose a different but equally unknown Kirkland salon from those posting on YELP. While my cut there wasn't perfect, I did at least get a boring version of what I requested -- a style cut short and flat against my head on the left side, gradually lengthening in the back like a short rounded cap that hugged my head and tapered to the nape of the neck, and left long on the right side of my head but shaped to encourage the resulting deep wavy locks to hang languidly over and shade that side of my face. Like, drama. The stylist followed my instructions literally, but she failed artistically to create the look, or mood, I wanted. At least she did a decent job rather than ruin my hair, as too many clients in reviews of Winslow had complained. How hard is it to find a stylist who actually listens to what clients say.

I was told, "sure, I can do that.. I can book you in two weeks, bring pictures of your cut also" I thought great, they seem confident enough to nail this cut. And when I went, I showed photos of my haircut when it was fresh.. and my stylist at Eclipz didn't really seem to be interested. My cut has always been more of an edgier, stacked a-line bob. Longest parts near my chin and then gradually up. Something that was clearly shown in my photos. And when I was done at Eclipz, my hair has this very conservative, traditional church mom bob thing done.. I was mortified, I asked if she can chop off this weird low hanging part on the sides, but she said "that's part of the cut"... well, it wasn't like the photos I had shown, and I don't have this part normally.. plus I couldn't get it corrected at this point since the front part was too short to create the style I had requested. So, I cannot recommend this place if you are looking for a creative spin on any cut. If you want a traditional take.. go for it. The stylist was also unable to get my name right, even after the cut she thought I was some other woman entirely..

I was very happy with the price, especially since most "curly hair" salons will charge for a first-time consultation and then into the hundreds of dollars for a cut. I thought her quote was very affordable. The location was easy to find, but the street doors to the building are locked, so you need to go in through the parking lot and find the inside hall doors, which are unlocked. Her single room salon was very clean and organized. She was very thoughtful about the cut I wanted, and asked questions about how my hair usually behaves. She said that she believes that the person who knows your hair best is you, and I really appreciated that, because I've definitely had stylists in the past who have heard me, and then gone ahead to give me whatever cut they felt like. I was hoping that adding layers and taking off some length would help my wider 2B/2C curls shrink and give my hair more volume, and the results started immediately and continued into a few days after the cut. My hair feels easier to wash, style, and manage in general, and it maintains its look for longer. Heather recommended some products she likes, but she didn't push for me to buy them, which is another thing I've experienced in other salons. The appointment lasted about 90 minutes. Overall, it was a really great experience--one of the best that I've had. Heather was very friendly to talk with, and very detail-oriented. :)
