This company needs to be stopped. I too am a victim of Petretti's crime. Very unprofessional and they abandoned our project. Project started 12/2020. I contacted Petretti Landscape and Pools on 5/7/21 to remodel our outdoor pool. I received an appointment for 7/28/21, at which appointment I discussed with the representative changes / upgrades for the pool. At the time I asked if the work could be completed by Thanksgiving (11/21) to which the answer was maybe. I received the designs on 8/13/21 and accepted the offer 8/14/21. On 8/20/21 I paid a deposit. On 8/31/21 I paid for engineering and permits. We didn't hear anything more from and called to follow up around mid-September asking when the work would start. The demolition started on 9/30/21, for 2 or 3 days. On 10/1/21 I paid for the demolition. Since then nothing more has happened. No one follows up to provide a status. I have emailed on numerous occasions. When I called and spoke to someone, I was told they are waiting for a permit. I followed up by email on 11/9/21 to which I received no answer. I texted the contact person a week later and received no answer. In my last email on 12/1/21, I asked for an estimated work date, in writing. I received an answer to call back. Voicemails never provide any information, just to call back. One rep emailed that he could not reach my phone. I emailed back and verified the number, but received no call or answer to my email. It appears to me they do not want to put anything in writing which makes me feel insecure about how serious they are about their agreements. On 1/6/22, I contacted the BBB indicating that I would like to know when and if they plan to complete the work. On 1/19/22 a Petretti rep emailed that "we will be having a plaster company out at your place to look at the pool to set a date to strip the plaster out." Let me preface this by saying, as business owners we know the value of a recommendation. We have never left a negative review for anyone because we know owning a business is difficult. We feel people, in general, are always doing the very best they can. BUT, we can not let another homeowner undergo the hell we have gone through these past 17 months. We entered into a contract with Petretti Pool and Landscape on September 16th, 2020. We wrote them a check for $1,000 (never applied to the balance). They provide a set of pictures depicting the final project outcome. We were promised the project would be completed in 3-4 months, we would be swimming by June. That is when our nightmare began. I will spare you details, but our experience with this company not only echoes the nightmare expressed by Scott C, but exceeds it. Some of our biggest challenges came with their lack of follow-through and communication. It was like playing a game of "Who's on First" trying to get an answer from the owner or the Project Manager. Their classic line was to say they each had to talk to the other. I was yelled at by the Project Manager for texting him after business hours. Emails, phone calls, and texts, all attempts to communicate with them were ignored - unless they needed money. If they needed money workmen showed up to complete "the next phase of the project" . Then we paid for completion and wouldn't see or hear from them for days, even weeks. We had several meetings to try and create timelines for accountability -that were never followed. Our yard for almost 14 months looked like an absolute dump. Discarded materials, materials ruined by rain no longer able to be used (costly) piles of dirt, cigarette butts, cans, and plastic bottles littered the yard and the unplastered pool. It was an eyesore which we asked for seven weeks to be cleared up. The drawings provided at the beginning of the project were later renamed "renditions' not actual. The pool equipment barrier turned out to be an eyesore and placed nothing like in the picture; they felt they were off the hook because it was only a "rendition". We are having to pay an additional $3,000 to try and hide the pool equipment because of their miscalculations in pool placement. The company appears to have a cash flow problem. Vendors we spoke to reported late payments. We paid $15,000 for concrete pour and a lien was put on our property by the concrete company who was never paid. During the time it took to resolve this issue Petretti did no work on our project and left the resolution of the with the county up to us. When confronted with the lien, the owner said, "They usually let me know." The word USUALLY told us this is not an uncommon experience. They bounced a check with the city of Lincoln for a permit which held the job up for two weeks. They failed city inspections on more than one occasion but blamed the inspector saying other towns gave them no problem. We were told, "We have done several pergolas like yours." Yet, when it came time to do build there was another long lull in the project. One of the workers told me he had to research how to do it. They overestimated the amount of wood needed at a cost of $3,900 to us. They had no architect to submit plans to the city, and no relationships with roofing subcontractors to install the roof. My husband, in the building retail industry for 45 years, was able to guide the workers away from making costly mistakes like not allowing for roofing ventilation by creating a soffit vent as they stuccoed the pergola. We didn't catch everything. As of January 2022, Petretti has abandoned the job and it is up to us to find contractors to finish it. Every single contractor has shown us shortcuts that were taken and the subpar materials that were used. Pool lighting on the sheer descents, now embedded in stone, are after-market lights and don't work. There are problems with the spa lights. The irrigation has been installed improperly according to several professional landscapers who have given us quotes. They fail to drain properly. Unfortunately, I had a very similar experience with Petretti as did the other reviews here on Yelp. While I thought I had done my research, it didn't come to my attention just how suspect this company was until the actual work had begun - almost four months after the contract was signed. Please do your diligence when hiring, save yourself the stress and money, and go with a more reputable company! In summary, this was a horrible, horrible experience, a living nightmare that I'm still dealing with. When Brian, the sales rep came out to look at the site in October, I was told the project - resurfacing pool, tilework, redoing concrete, and adding new electrical - could easily be completed in 6 weeks, they had six months. I was adamant that I needed the project completed by April. Reiterating what's been said by others, they were very expedient and attentive during the initial contract process. Requiring immediately, the money up front for the permit and engineering, they had $4,000.00 of mine by November. It wasn't until March that any work commenced! In late January I was told the permit application hadn't yet been made. My construction site drawings have the wrong name and address. Two project managers were removed from my job as they continued to push the start date through Feb, Larry Petretti assured me that my project would still be finished by April, and that he would "personally oversee" the project - only he NEVER actually came out to the site. During the demo of the existing concrete, the main drain, P-trap, and consequently, the sewer line was clogged with dirt & concrete debris. It cost me $4,200.00 to have Roto-Rooter come out and repair the damage. When Larry was informed, he requested and was given all invoices, implying it would be handled through insurance. As the job continued, he was more insistent that each portion be paid before the next would continue, finally demanding pre-payment for the plaster work beforehand. When I sent the company a certified letter June 1st, to collect reimbursement, they abandoned the job, unfinished. Again, repeating some of the comments made, I am certain that no work would have been done at all without my constant urging - never did they schedule work without my persistence. They didn't work Mondays, and often wouldn't get started until a Thursday or Friday, then rush through before the weekend. Much of the work was sloppy and careless and invoices were sent requesting payment due before work was completed. Concrete was splattered on patio furniture during pouring and the team rinsed all their equipment on my front lawn, killing the grass and leaving chunks of cement embedded. The yard was a disgusting mess for over six months with tools, equipment, sludge, and garbage left all over. When I complained to Larry that the contracts states the site would be left clean, he brushed it off as "minimal trash." As noted, the communication between laborers and project managers was horrendous. I emailed the point person in Feb. with my tile choice, handmade tile that I fully expected to pay more than what contract stated. I paid for the tile in early March so it could be ordered and shipped if needed. Over the next few months I texted and emailed my tile choice to several different "point persons" including Larry himself, after each saying they hadn't received it. When we had just days left to have the tile completed before the plastering could begin, they had never ordered my tile and it could not be used without additional delay to project. Furious, and out of time, I was forced to go with a tile that was in stock, and now the step tile doesn't match waterline tile. The pool was finally plastered over Memorial Day weekend, however I was charged an additional $800 to have it completed by a company that was "available" to do the work without additional delays. They waited the long weekend (I later found out it's important to do this step immediately) and finally had the pool started up five (5) days after it was filled - and I had to call my own service company to do the start-up, they didn't even have a company to do it! The project managers were extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. During the process of filling pool, Foreman Mike at one point texted, "It's your pool lady deal with it quit bugging me on my day off..." I could continue with details of perfunctory performance, but suffice to say, the best thing about my project is that the pool has water and is functioning. I am extremely unsatisfied with the company performance as well as customer service. The workmanship is adequate, not excellent. We selected Petretti based on Houzz award. Our project was signed during the Covid lockdown We started right after and what was supposed to be 3-4 months ended up being 18 months with multiple delays. Some of it we understood with covid illness and staffing shortages and supplies, but most of it seemed due to poor management and ability to navigate. Quality ultimately suffered and communications was poor. Cost were ultimately higher than what was anticipated. They did come fix a gas igniter that failed, but the failure could have been prevented with proper installation. They may have been a good company in the past. However, based on other reviews of projects after hours it seems they only continued to get worse . Their website appears to be down suggesting they may be no longer in business which is ultimately good so no one else has to experience what we went through. We hired Petretti to redo our backyard including stamped concrete, a pool, landscaping, and solar. The total project was approximately 100k. The project was complete in 7.5 months despite initially being told half that time. The Good: The final product is truly spectacular. Their field/laborer employees are wonderful people who take a lot of pride in their work. Mike, Ronnie, Danny and the entire crew at our house were part of our family for a while. They were great with our kids and helped to answer so many questions. Their contractors they hire (concrete, gunnite, plaster, solar) are equally as focused on doing a great job and I would hire all of them again. The Bad: Every single aspect of this project was ridiculously frustrating and annoying Expect this to be a full time job for the homeowner to try and get answers to anything 1) We were initially told it would be complete around Christmas, it was complete in mid April. 2) Getting information on what/when would be completed next or pretty much anything was literally like pulling teeth. Emails are completely ignored and texts are rarely responded to unless sent multiple times. Unless they need money and then their communication is spot on. Be warned their communication up front is really great. The owner and everyone in the office will make you feel like their only customer. Once you sign the contract that will completely change. They very clearly take on way more jobs then they possibly can, get the contract signed, and then focus on finding the next job regardless of whether they have the staffing to complete the project. 3) Pompous project manager who will tell you "I gave you an hour of my time yesterday, what more do you want?" and will not follow through on commitments to get things done. "Weekly" project updates will come very infrequently and he will try his best to ignore, delay, stall any difficult conversation. 4) Everything is delayed and getting updates on when contractors will come is impossible and very frustrating. We had to contact every one of their contractors on the side to get information or push things to schedule because all we would get is excuses. Frequently the story of the contractor and the story of the project manager would be very different and they were all the same. They too were waiting to get information from Petretti. Obviously Petretti would rather contact their contractor which I understand but when you don't get any answers from Petretti, you do what you have to do to move the ball forward. I truly believe they would still be on our project if we as the homeowner didn't really push the project to completion. 5) Landscaping- Be aware. They use the tiniest plants you will ever see. Don't assume the 1-5 gallon plants you see at a nursery is what you will get. The "privacy trees" we asked for when we started the project arrived at our house (and very clearly are tall on the initial project drawing) are less than a foot tall. It's truly laughable just how tiny the plants are that you will receive. Be prepared and I'd recommend buying your own plants. 6 Financial- We were once requested to pay on something early because they "needed to make payroll and another project was running behind". We twice received legal paperwork from contractors that if Petretti didn't pay them there would be a lien on our house. Petretti said this was very normal, when we contacted the contractors they firmly disagreed. 7) They don't want to discuss too many details when you sign the contract (Ex: landscaping/solar). Then trying to get an answer once the contract is signed is incredibly challenging. This creates confusion and more frustration when you don't get what you expect (or what was initially communicated) . They will also blame misinformation on employees that work for Petretti but were involved in the initial project planning but not with the follow through. I could go on and on but every single aspect of this project was frustrating. As I mentioned, the end result is fantastic so if you have a ton of free time, are extremely patient, require very little communication, and are in absolutely no hurry, Petretti is the contractor for you. I signed a contract with Petretti Landscape & Pools on 7/15/22 and I can honestly say that the project is now complete, and we are Thrilled with how everything turned out. We have done quite a few construction projects to our homes over the years, and we have learned that trusting our gut on which contractor to choose has been our best option. We both feel that we made the right choice on this one. We were looking for a contractor that could do all the aspects of our project from the initial Design, to installing the Pool and Spa, Concrete, Outdoor Kitchen, and do all the Landscaping that we needed to have done. We wanted a high-quality finish and that is what they promised and provided for us. From the initial phone call, design implementation, negotiating the contract, and the way that they had us be a part of the project is exactly what we needed. We noticed that there were a few negative reviews here on Yelp, but we found this company on Houzz.com and there were really good reviews on the quality and finish of work that they did, so we decided that we would meet with them. They were up front when we asked about it and they had informed us that there were some negative reviews on them. They explained that during the last few years with Covid there were many challenges that they had to overcome and worked through and that the company had made several changes and that they would never take on a project that they could not handle. We felt that after that initial meeting that we would start with the design process with them and that is when we realized that they were the right company for us. Like all construction projects there were a few issues that arose, but we had good communication with the crews, and we were able to handle the issues and come to an agreed resolution. As I have learned over the years contracting with different companies that I needed to be patient at times and to give the company a little trust that they will come through with what they say that they are going to do. These projects can be stressful at times for both the client and the companies involved but if both parties realize that this is a business relationship and that there is a common goal that is to be achieved then just about everything can be overcome. I am glad that we decide to sign a contract with Petretti Landscape & Pools, and I would feel very comfortable with referring this company to any of my family, friends, and co-workers. Don't get ripped off. Look, they took $1000 from us. That is the bottom line. We went in with a budget that was $20,000 max. We had discussed with them that we could see it potentially going over, but would prefer not to. The final verdict, a backyard that ranges from $80,000-$100,000. How is this possible? Well, lighting alone was $17,000. Followed by "boulders" that were $3,000. So for our budget we could light our boulders. Fun. The cost of the design was $1,000. We felt that this company did not want to take on such a small project and instead of being honest and upfront, telling us it wouldn't be a good fit, they took our $1,000 and out budgeted us so that we couldn't afford the job. Their mark-up wouldn't be enough on a $20,000 job so they outbid our budget and made $1,000. Terrible. Do not go with this company unless you are willing to spend more than your budget you tell them. The plans were mediocre at best and the charged us the max for the design. Just please be careful. read more

After more than a year of hard work on behalf of Larry Petretti and his organization, he did not live up to our agreement and his so-called "core beliefs" of integrity and honesty and left me with several thousand dollars in unpaid invoices for services rendered. Well, where to begin....we hired Petretti to do an entire landscape and pool install in our backyard around July 2019. We didn't have a lot of time to research but thought initially that the owner had integrity, so we moved forward. Once they broke ground, we had issues with timelines, communication, workers being shifted to other projects, leaving work area a mess and overall quality. The COVID issue in 2020 just added even more layers of complexity to getting our backyard completed. It was a constant struggle having to follow up (emails/texts) and then trying to get final punch list items at the end resolved. We now see other reviews and can relate to be taken advantage of. In November 2020, we were inspected by EID and discovered that Petretti failed to get our pool auto fill signed off before concrete was poured. Because of this, it was dismantled. It's now been 1.5 years that we've been waiting for the issue to be corrected. The owner has continued to make random excuses delaying the repair every time we tried to get an update. He has basically abandoned us now. Recommend you do your homework before making a big investment on them. read more
