I've been bringing my long hair dachshund mix here for years, mostly because of how convenient it's always been, but since the new ownership took over recently, it's truly leveled up. The whole experience feels more organized and calm now. They don't overbook like they used to, so dogs aren't sitting in kennels for hours, and it's no longer a loud, stressful environment full of barking and whining which gives most dogs anxiety. I've been taking her here for so long that I thought 3-5 hours was just the norm for grooming, but not anymore! This time, I booked an appointment, when I got there he looked at his notes from last time he groomed her and made sure I wanted the same cut (previous groomers never did that) and then he immediately got to work on my pup and then she was done for pick up in about a little over an hour! and she looked and smelled amazing. Andy Kitchen did a fantastic job! Her haircut was perfect, exactly what I asked for and my girl came out happy, clean, and looking her best. We both love it here now more than ever! If you've ever had a bad experience at Petrichor Pet salon, it's worth giving it a second chance under this new ownership! And ask for Andy Kitchen! They shaved my husky. (Look at the photos) Never have written a bad review but this is HORRIBLE. First time coming here and I spent 10 minutes explaining what I did and did not want, I asked for a bath and hygiene trim. I have a husky mix and have had bad experiences in the past so I like to make it overly clear to the point where I showed a photo of a husky's butt. I come back to get my dog and they have shaved her entire back side and tummy. They claimed it was matted, it was NOT matted she has an undercoat. Her undercoat is completely shaved off. It is going to take all year for this to grow back and until then she won't be able to regulate her temperature. I know the groomers couldn't know this but I don't live around here anymore I'm visiting. I live where it's very cold and snows. She WILL get cold. I was given a full refund after driving back over and insisting but this is just insane for this to happen at all. I brought my dog Plato (a Maltese/Shih tzu mix) to the Costa Mesa location for the first time a few months ago, in November, and will NEVER bring him back here. For $120 the groomer CUT my dog in three places....not a little knick, he was CUT on his belly in two places and one on his hip. They said nothing about it when I picked him up, only commented that he needed a dental cleaning....it was so bad on two of the spots that he actually formed some decent scabs. Aside from that the haircut was uneven and he had little puffs of hair all around his body. This was the worst groomer experience I've ever had and my dog is 12 years old so he's had lots of haircuts. Save your money and the torment on your fur babies, do not bring your pets here. read more

Dogs came home dragging their butts and biting at them. They smell like old pennies and clearly did not get their anal glands expressed. We can wash and trim nails at home so we made it very clear this was really our only reason for coming. We called and explained this and rather than telling us they'd fix it were told we were wrong and there is no way that expression wasn't done. STAY AWAY. Only go here if you want your dog to get mauled! They irresponsibly leave all dogs out roaming free, they are flakey and don't return calls, the owner is shady and a crook. My dog got MAULED by another dog there and I had to spend $3000 for her to get surgery to clean out the necrotic tissue. It was impossible to get a hold of anyone, the owner NEVER called me, and I have since reported to the state. I have filed a complaint with consumer affairs, BBB, and have written a letter to the state governor to ensure this business is held responsible for their sheer negligence. read more

I took my dog here for grooming and when I picked him up they had cut his ear, deep inside and a large cut. They also scratched the entire cornea of his eye causing an infection within hours. I had to take him to the emergency vet first treatment. I reached out to the store multiple times via phone and email showing the trauma caused to my dog. I was told that the owner would be reaching out to me to discuss. The owner never called me back nor responded to my emails. Terrible place. Please do not take your dog here. It made me sad to think about my poor dog being there without me and experiencing this trauma. Never again. And def spreading this by word of mouth to everyone I know. read more

My dog developed a really bad skin infection after coming here. This was the only thing different that I did and my vet said it can happen if they don't properly clean the supplies they use. Unfortunately my dog caught a bacteria and had to be on antibiotics for weeks and it took awhile for it to go away and his hair to slowly get back. Along with that when I went to pick up my dog they said they couldn't dry him all the way because my dog didn't like the dryer. That's not my problem, that's what I'm paying for, you should be able to figure that part out. He should not have come home damp at all. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I previously rated them 5 stars, but I take that review back. After 3yrs of being a customer, they turned my dog away today for being 8 minutes late for our appointment. Probably closer to 6 minutes because before we entered, I took my dog to the bush to relieve himself before handing him over to them. They claimed they were fully booked and couldn't get him in. When I'm certain they real reason is they OVER BOOKED, and knew they screwed up. I'm curious to know what exactly is the grace period, most places (restaurants, dentist, etc.) are 15mins. Worst customer service ever. Called and was told they could groom my cats the same day. I brought them over right away and when I got there they told me it was actually not a good day to bring the cats. Rescheduled for the following Monday. I was told to bring them at 830 am because that would be less stressful for them (which I agree with and was happy to do). I was assured someone would be at the store at this time even though they are not officially open. I waited outside for over 30 minutes until the staff arrived at 905. They then told me they could not do the service due to internal staffing issues. I drove there twice now to be cancelled on and their excuse was sorry we are doing this to a lot of other clients today too. Poor communication and poor customer service. We had an appointment at 12:15 for one of my goldendoodles. I asked for them to cut his hair at the length of 7, expecting a teddy cut like last time. They said it should take about 2 hours. 3 hours later I haven't gotten a text so I tried calling and got no answer. I decided to do my weekend shopping while waiting for him to be done I stopped by inside to ask if he was ready. I walked in and asked if my dog was ready. The lady who was grooming him was grooming another dog and said it'll take another 45-50 mins. We had an appointment at 12:15 so I don't understand why she was grooming another dog when her 12:15 appointment wasn't done and it's already 3PM. After an hour and at 4PM, I got a text he was ready. My dog came out with the worst groom he's every had, he practically looked like a goat and not like a teddy bear. The groomer said 'you wanted a 7 cut all around right' and I said no, we usually get a teddy cut for him. She then says that the haircut she gave him is better. How does she think this haircut is good??? With all the groomers I've been with, they always have notes from recent cuts to refer to. Never bringing my babies here again. read more

What a wonderful experience! I have been nervous to get my 5 month old mini goldendoodle groomed because he still acts like a baby (mouthing, nonstop moving/playing, needing constant attention). I read so many reviews and finally decided to take him to Petrichor. Victor was very helpful and answered all of my questions very quickly on Yelp prior to my appointment. I asked him so many questions, even late at night, and he put my mind at ease. Reyann took care of my puppy, Leif, on the day of his appointment. She took the time to teach me about his coat and explain exactly what they would be doing. She also told me that I could watch his grooming through the glass to make me feel more comfortable. Leif felt very comfortable with her, which made me feel so much better. I returned after about an hour and 20 minutes and got to see the last few minutes of his grooming through the big glass window. Reyann was so gentle with him, even picking him up to hold him when doing his feet with the help of another groomer. Leif got 100% of her attention when he was with her, and he loved her so much. They only charged $25 for their puppy package! I was expecting to pay about $70 (from quotes I received from 30 other nearby locations). Even with tip included, I spent less here than I expected to pay elsewhere. I feel bad that Leif required constant attention from the groomers (separation anxiety), but they told me that they didn't mind talking to him and playing with him to keep him happy. The ladies here are angels! I will be returning for his first full groom in 3 weeks, and I know that Leif will be excited to return! This is my dog after they essentially let shampoo sit in his eyes. Turned him over to me and charged me prior to me noticing. Immediately turned back when I noticed in the car. They played it off as "sorry for the inconvenience." Dude I just don't want my dog to be in pain... They told me they'd reimburse my vet bill but I won't get a refund for the grooming.... Seriously? Btw this was 2 months ago and I'm still trying to get an insurance claim number (which they said the owner has but won't give me his contact info). The owner is always "busy" and the vet bill I provided wasn't enough so now I have to email it. Cool. Will do. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Please refer to my original review! The "owner" of this place has no idea what good customer service looks like. I left a review after getting a horrendous haircut for my dog last Saturday. Although I left a 1 star review, I did so without being nasty. I also provided photos of this poorly executed haircut. This "business owner" said he would get back to me with a solution. I waited 4 days and did not hear anything from him. I called the salon & he finally called me back the next day. His "solution"? "I can refund you $45 (of the $95 I paid) and you can pick it up this week or next week" HA! What kind of business issues PARTIAL refunds for their horrible service AND makes you pick it up instead of refunding it back to the original method of payment? A cheap business- that's who. I asked why I wouldn't get my full refund back & this owner's response was that there was no problem with the bath- only the haircut. He also went on to basically tell me that my "opinion" of my dog's haircut was subjective! I even asked him if he would be okay going to the barbershop & getting a haircut with patches missing & uneven hair. He said he wouldn't be happy about it. Well, there is CLEAR evidence that this groomer butchered my dog. & he saw the photos I posted. Uneven ears, one ear 3x poofier than the other, the top of his head was uneven and there was even a patch missing on the back of his head. All of this even after showing the groomer a reference haircut photo before AND after the haircut. Not to mention this groomer didn't even trim the hairs inside the ears and I actually had to trim his nails myself when we got home as well as fix his terrible haircut. Now I can understand a groomer not giving the hairstyle I suggested- completely shaving my dog due to matting. But at least they do a good job. This groomer just flat out let a 5 year old cut my dog's hair. & there is absolutely no way my dog didn't behave well enough for this haircut to be well executed because the groomer even told me how sweet and well behaved my dog was. Oh, did I mention that these photos were taken AFTER the groomer took him back a second time to "fix" his original haircut? Anyway, this owner said that since I declined the free touch up he could only issue partial refund. I told him that they already attempted to touch up his hair before I left the salon! So why in the world would I ask them to "try" to fix it again?? This owner is so cheap that he said he had to talk to the "company" about issuing the full refund and he'd get back to me as soon as possible. If you are the owner, you are the OWNER. You have the authority to make decisions and issue refunds. This was just a way for this cheap man to get out of issuing a refund. It's been 5 days since then and I still have yet to hear back. So I have no choice but to leave this scathing review that this "business owner" deserves. He should be embarrassed of his terrible service. I should've read his other bad reviews before coming in to see how defensive this guy gets. I won't be surprised if he gets defensive to this post as well. Or who knows, maybe he will pretend to be a good business owner and actually own up to his staff's mistakes and issue that refund that I know I deserve. So please, do yourself a favor & go somewhere else like Paw Sweet Paw in Irvine! they will show you what real customer service looks like. read more

I came in today to get my dog groomed as we are moving out of the state tomorrow. She is very well tempered and has a beautiful coat. Our usual groomer canceled on us last minute, but thankfully Petrichor was able to squeeze her In Today. This was a mistake. I payed $90 for a full bath service, deshedding and paw maintenance. But when I got her back her it seems like she is missing huge chunks of hair on her neck area. She gets fully groomed at least once a month so her fur doesn't get terribly matted. It might a little but not enough to the point where they need to shave a huge portion of her neck. It also seems like they did a half ass job while deshedding her. Her fur was all over the place and it looked like she had been brushed for a total of 20 seconds. If they did brush her for more than 15 minutes then they did not put any effort into it. I appreciate that they were able to squeeze her in but if they couldn't have handled it, I would have rather they told me so I could find a different groomer. EDIT: I contacted them and asked what happened to which they started getting very defensive very quickly, and started to gas light me by telling me I abuse my dog. She is so loved and spoiled, I am just confused where this is all coming from. I didn't expect to deal with this much stress from a pet groomer. I usually never post reviews or bring up concerns with businesses unless I feel like it is completely unacceptable. I have a three year old golden retriever I took in on Friday Jan 14th. Unfortunately I had a bad experience. The groomers left two giant tuffs of hair behind my dogs ears which made him look like a mad scientist. They quickly tried to fix this when I pointed it out - but they only trimmed it down a little and left a lot behind, his head still isn't cut properly. The coup de grace was noticing the next day that they took a 3" wide chunk of fur out of my Golden's tail. Either they aren't careful and didn't notice, or tried to hide it from me. After Daisy left Petrichor, we tried another groomer there. Maybe a misunderstanding of what cut we wanted, but wasn't satisfied, so I scheduled another appointment with a groomer named Jenny. Chavo took to her very well since he typically prefers males. This is by far the best cut he's had. My sister-in-law calls his cut the "Lion" look. Jenny did perfectly in leaving his "Mutton Chops" and feathered tail. I will always schedule an appointment with Jenny, even if I have to wait. Great Job!!! read more

Easily one of the best haircuts my poodle/bichon has had since adopting her 2 years ago. Her hair gets absolutely wild so we get her groomed/cut every roughly 6-8 weeks so we've had a lot of experience with different groomers now and Petrichor did a fantastic job. We have taken her to many groomers in the area and every single one tries to turn her into one of those fancy poofed out show dog poodles and we can't stand that look. Most of them also miss a lot of spots or it looks like they completely avoided certain areas (she grows quite the mustache and beard and most places sorta leave that alone so she ends up looking like the dog thing from the movie The Labyrinth) Petrichor listened to our request when we told them we wanted her to be cut fairly short but to still maintain the teddy bear look we love so much and they nailed it perfectly. Couldn't be happier with the haircut she got not to mention the price was very fair and actually cheaper than most other places, even places like Petsmart. What a lovely dog salon! My groomers are quarantined- living with senior parents and my Yorkie (Gracie) won't let me brush her. Gracie is a senior dog with cardiac issues; when she gets "matted" and has to be shaved, she stresses out. So it was a safety issue to maintain her coat. The girls at Petrichor were safe, clean, and did a beautiful job on my dog (for $20.00!)- They were so sweet with my dog, she looked adorable, and was much more comfortable! read more

This was Oakley's first time being groomed anywhere and it was nothing less than amazing!!! Walking into the business I was greeted by a couple of the female groomers/ receptionist! They were so sweet and helpful on helping me decide which was a service was best for my pup! When I came to pick him up I was expecting for him to run straight into my arms but he ran to play with another pup and started jumping on the groomer. Which could only mean one thing.. he had a great time at the groomers!!! I really wanted to like this place because of how convenient the location was and the pricing (so no more stressful car rides to the groomers for my dog.) I was super excited to go pick him up but was immediately disappointed upon seeing him. It was as if my key points were disregarded and they've given him what is usually seen on a Maltese, or any other toy breed at that: long hair in the head and ears with a "fluffy" tail. I explicitly went over these key areas when dropping him off because it's what usually ends up being a miss. I emphasized that I wanted it short and shaven down, with no long hair strands on the tail, either. As silly as it sounds, I even explained I wanted his face to resemble "a wolf" just to give an idea on how short I wanted his hair to be on his snout and not the usual teddy bear bob cut they give to toy breeds. The girl who did his hair told me, "I was told you wanted a teddy bear face." I never stated this and became confused, because it was exactly what I didn't want for his summer cut. They were willing to fix it and trim up his hair, so I can't fairly rate this place one star. I explained to them again how I wanted the hair to be shaven down including his tail. It took a minute of waiting, and the end result wasn't the best. My dog was upset and I didn't want to stress him out even more, so I insisted it was fine. I just wanted to get out of there, but I decided to give them the green light to fix up his tail more. I was appreciative they went ahead to attempt to get his hair the way I wanted it, don't get me wrong. But it was most definitely frustrating, especially after the comment of my dog's hair in the ears and tail being a bit hard to get a close cut/shave; something to do with different directions it grows. I've taken my dog to the groomer's since he was a puppy and never once have I been told this. Past groomers have always gotten his hair just right, even when having to fix his hair again in certain areas. My poor dog now has jagged, blunt cuts around his snout, ears, and thighs. The length of his hair all over is incorrect (I asked for him to be shaven down and when asked if he should be "pink" in reference to his skin visibility, I said some visibility is fine), but I only took notice of this later. I feel like I wasted my money and it's super dismaying, especially knowing that the manager was able to work with me in rescheduling my dog's appointment. I appreciate the accommodation and attempt to fix my dog's hair, but I really don't think I'll be coming back as this experience has just made me sad. I'll take my dog back to his old grooming place even if I have to go on a drive and pay $40 more. Easily the most disappointing $65 spent. read more

I had my 11 month old puppy mini Goldendoodle groomed here yesterday and Kiera (so?) did an amazing job! I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and she did exactly as I was hoping.... My pup looked perfect, smelled great, and I couldn't be happier. She had some matting around her neck so she had to shave some areas (which she communicated up front to me with different options on how to approach the matting) but she blended it perfectly and made her look great despite the matting that she had to deal with. I couldn't be happier and will definitely return here for regular grooming. Pricing was also reasonable. read more
