Sadly, we were called right now and notified that our groomer had called out today and that are three dogs cannot come in who are scheduled for their seasonal package which we get every month. We are new to this location and it was our first time being scheduled, but I have someone coming out to spray for bugs with a chemical and I let the manager know that I was in a bind and I really needed to have my dogs out of the house. Unfortunately, the manager gave me no flexibility, and no compromise and told me absolutely not the girl who answered the call was very gracious and very kind and seemed flexible however, William just continuously told me no and gave me no solution. I've been coming to Healthy Spot for six years and I spend on seasonal grooming $300 plus a month on my dogs so I am so disappointed that William couldn't have come up with some sort of solution or compromise for me since I was scheduled to deliver the dogs to them at 2 PM. I am so discouraged knowing that I spent thousands of dollars at Healthy Spot and another location before I moved to Orange County for him to just tell me no and not offer any kind of compromise or at least maybe take one of the dogs so I can maybe see if a neighbor can have two of the dogs I'm new to the area and again so disappointed in Costa Mesa Healthy Spot location the Long Beach location has always been kind, gracious welcoming, and always so flexible. I can't praise them enough.. sadly I will be taking my money elsewhere and again it's terrible that I've been coming to Healthy Spot for six years now with three of my dogs and this is the end result. read more

I arrived at the store around 1:30pm on a Sunday. The posted hours online and in person are something like 10am- 7pm. I've been coming here for dog food for years and have never had an issue before. But today an employee I didn't recognize turned me away saying that the store was "closed to customers" from 1:15-1:45. This was not posted anywhere nor was there any event or anything. She had a kid with her and seemed to be distracted with personal stuff. I don't know why I couldn't just pick up food for my dog but it was super weird and incredibly inconvenient. So I guess call before you go even if it's during posted business hours, especially if you're coming from farther away bc they might not be "open to customers." read more

Our lovely 4.5 year old sighthound recently began to not allow us to trim her nails at home, which prompted us to look to some experts for help with this aspect of her grooming. We landed on Healthy Spot, as we have always had great experiences when coming in to purchase treats and other items there. I could not be happier with the outcome. Our shy, anxiety prone girl was nervous at first drop off, but by the time we returned to pick her up from her "Medium Long Spa" service, she was absolute blissed out. She looked radiant, nails were trimmed perfectly, and it seemed like she made new friends with her groomer & the staff. We even got a 15% discount for this first grooming service. When we went to leave the store, our dog did something that pleasantly surprised us and begrudgingly/slowly walked towards our car, looking back at the building like she didn't want to go yet! This is something she only does when we have to leave a hike, doggy play date, or go home from the beach (her most favorite outings). Need hand stripping? Healthy Spot is the only place in OC that has groomers trained in this technique to my knowledge (I made a ton of calls!). Jax is a 1yo Norfolk Terrier mix with a beautiful coat that I wanted to maintain through hand stripping. Jared has groomed Jax since he was 6 mos. He always does an outstanding job and he is so good taking time to let Jax warm up to him. I was worried at first that this process might hurt but that was quickly dispelled when I peaked in and saw him laying down and happy. I highly recommmed Jared as technique is just as important as someone your dog trusts. Healthy Spot is a jewel. Adopted one of our Doxies during an event 5 years ago there and take all three of our pups there for grooming. They also have fun events there to take your pups and meet other owners. read more

So overpriced and awful grooming job. The place I usually go was down a groomer and got really booked out in advanced. My dog really needed a grooming so I decided to try this place. The grooming job was very uneven and choppy. They said they couldn't get all the parts and left random long areas. Even on her face one side they left a long hair right by her eye and the other side they didn't. I feel like they must have new groomers with no experience. This place charged me over $50 more than my regular place. And then claimed that normally they would have charged me $30 extra because my dog is sensitive and needs 2 people to bathe them. I'm not sure what they are talking about as my elderly dog is super easy going and every groomer has said she was really good. Of course sometimes she tries to move around, but that is the majority of dogs. I would never go back here and can't believe that they wanted it change me almost double what my other place charges. She also smells bad after coming back so I need to bathe her so she doesn't smell all weird. Overall just bad service for ridiculous price, it's no wonder they were the only place around with an appointment, no one wants to go here. read more

I know I keep saying that I've found my go-to spot for pet supplies, but it's so tough when Huntington Beach is surrounded by such incredible shops. The Healthy Spot is located in Costa Mesa, not too far from the Triangle. It's somewhat small for a pet shop, but it's loaded with quality food, unique toys, and must-have accessories for your cat or dog. I've been struggling to find the perfect food for my picky eater so I stopped by to load up on frozen eats. The Healthy Spot team went above and beyond and talked me through each of the options. I have nothing but positive praises for the Healthy Spot Costa Mesa, and especially for dog groomer Rebecca, who's an expert Bichon Frisée groomer. Rebecca makes our fur-baby show stopping beautiful with every groom. My dog is a Bichon Frisée and has always had the fluffy "best in show" groom, which is a scissor cut that takes skill. Most dog groomers don't know how to groom a bichon with the show cut. There are a few groomers in California who know and do the cut. Majority of Bichon frisée groomers are in LA, Temecula or San Diego. So, when I found dog groomer Rebecca at the Healthy Spot, it was like discovering gold. Rebecca is a wonderful groomer and she takes her time with her groom, insuring each groom is done right. Prior to Healthy Spot, I temporarily tried Sweet Paws, which was a bad experience. I was met with attitude and a groomer with an inflated ego, who told me she wouldn't work with me if I took my pet to Petco. This person at Sweet Paws had such an inflated ego. After that experience, I moved on and ventured to Healthy Spot. I have had nothing but warm, friendly and positive interaction with the staff, who are all professional, positive and super helpful. I feel my fur baby is in good hands every time I bring him to see Rebecca. Rebecca has a heart of gold, plus she's a pro at grooming. Tatiana did such an AMAZING job grooming my pup. My pup is a Maltese/Poodle/Bichon Frise Mix -- so as you can imagine, his fur type is on the curlier, fluffier, and more high maintenance side. Once Odin was brought out for pick up, Tati double checked with me to ensure I was happy with how his new do turned out. Healthy Spot is a fabulous pet store with the kindest and friendliest staff! The staff always greets my dog with baby voice and asks if they can give her treats. Because of that, my dog gets super excited to visit here and will tug me across the parking lot to get in. They have a great selection of healthy snacks and meals, cute clothes, and fun toys. MY DOG'S TAIL GOT AMPUTATED AFTER GOING IN FOR A BATH . This is a TRUE story and happened Saturday Jan. 23, 2021 at the Costa Mesa location. On Saturday January 23, 2021 I took 2 of my Pomeranians to have a bath at the Healthy Spot in Costa Mesa. This bath was a redo from the week before because they had done such a shotty job and didn't give the sanitary groom I asked and paid for and one of my dogs was all greasy from the product they used on her. Upon dropping them off both my dogs were shaking and didn't want to get out of the car...this was observed by the 2 groomers that came to the car to get them and commented on. Noel (my pom who's tail is now gone) was especially fearful and as a side note when she came back from her bath the week prior she did not want me to pick her up and would whine when I touched her near/under her arms, I couldn't figure it out then but now I realize she was handled too roughly at the first groom and was hurting. About an hour and a half into her bath at this second appt. I get a call from the Salon Manager telling me that Noel had sustained a "small cut" on her tail from a BRUSH (what kind of brush rips a tail open and with what force is it being used to do this??) and while it is very minor, it is bleeding a lot and probably just needs to be "GLUED SHUT" (her words), and I need to meet them at their vet immediately. (This is an 8 year old senior dog, super docile, loves to be brushed....there is absolutely no circumstance that would require that kind of force with a brush for this type of injury to occur, EVER.) Also, if it is so minor why can't I pick up my own dog and take her to my vet? There is no time for that, I have to go to their vet immediately. This does not sound minor... Upon arrival at the vet the two employees are standing out front holding Noel. She is terrified, in shock and literally jumps into my arms. They have not seen the vet at this point and seem pretty relaxed...really? I immediately summon the vet tech to take Noel. Apparently this is their contracted vet for serious injuries at the salon...thats alarming in itself...what injuries? After the vet examines Noel's injury, they immediately come out and tell me this is way too SEVERE for them to handle, her tail is BLEEDING PROFUSELY and that I need to go straight to the emergency vet she will need SURGERY...WTF....all this from a brush Healthy Spot?? At the emergency vet, the Dr. tells me the injury is very SERIOUS, she is in extreme pain (his words), her tail has been LACERATED TO THE BONE, has a SEVERE DISLOCATION and the bones appear to be crushed. The vets expert opinion is this did not indeed happen from a brush, but appears to be a KENNEL SLAM injury, and her tail will have to be AMPUTATED in an EMERGENCY SURGERY that night. Also, she is older so there is subsequent risk in putting her under anesthesia as she has just undergone oral surgery weeks before and has a compromised trachea. Again, I thought this was a minor injury from a brush Healthy Spot? Fast forward to now, my beautiful, sweet pure bred Pomeranian now has a nub for a tail. This injury has in turn has caused a myriad of other issues...on top of spending months in pain, not being able to get comfortable, eat, sleep or go to the bathroom properly, she is a different dog now. She is traumatized, anxious, wants to be near me and reassured all the time. Not the joyful, playful dog she was prior to this. And come to find out the most disturbing part of this story is this isn't an isolated incident, other people from all over have come out of the woodwork with similar stories of abuse and injuries at the hands of the Healthy Spot grooming salon and stories of company-wide gross lack of accountability. This has been hell for Noel, myself and my family. Healthy Spot has been remiss in doing anything to rectify this situation. They have only issued corporate scripted responses to the public outrage and have repeatedly said things that are patently untrue regarding post injury reach-out and follow-up. When approached to take full responsibility and pay compensatory damages for the injury and subsequent fall out, they lawyered up and said they would charge me with CRIMINAL EXTORTION. FOR SPEAKING UP. Unbeleivable. My dog went in for a BATH, she now has NO TAIL! SHAME ON THEM! They are now scrubbing all negative comments on their social media and attempting to take down negative yelp reviews. So no real apology, no compensation, only big time threats and scare tactics. Great company. Not only do they not care about animals but clearly humans either. Do yourself a favor and find a groomer who has 100% transparency and genuinely cares about the animals they work with, not a corporate chain that has little over site, does not vet or train their employees properly and when push comes to shove does not care at all about the animals they service or the people who's family those pets are a part of. read more

Tatiana is your girl if have a doodle breed. I have taken my goldendoodle to her about 3x now and his coat has gotten better and better each time. The first time we took him, he was so matted that he had to get shaved. Now that I'm taking him more consistently (every 4-7 weeks) he's not getting matted and we've been able to let his fur grow out and get fluffy! He looks so adorable and smells so good! Tatiana is really good about shaping the face on my goldendoodle which is super important to me to have that rounded look. I have been go to healthy spot to give my two cute little dogs grooming for couple years. I always book with Joy. During padamic，we stoped go there and do gromming at home. last week，I decided to take my dogs to healthy sopt give them grooming. But they told me Joy is no longer with them. So I have to book grooming with two new girls. First, this time I only got text after they finish their grooming. That was weird, because I never got text, they always called me. Second, when my husband and I drove to home, I found mini me (my dog) right eyeball is red. I thought maybe that was because of the shampoo. I tried to call but they already got off work. But after couple hours later when we got home. His right eye became swelled and super super red. We decided to take Mini me to ER. After four hours waiting. The vet told us his right eyeball were bloodshot because of hit by something. Next day, we went to the store. The girl who give Mini Me grooming and their manager said nothing happened. But they will check the cameras. I wait one week, they never called. I won't take my dogs to get grooming there again. Btw, the food and treats sold by healthy spot really good. My shih-tzu poodle mix emerged from his grooming session upbeat, smiling, and cute as a button! STAY AWAY FROM HEALTHY SPOT - COSTA MESA!!!! There is something obviously wrong being done at this store. My dog used to LOVE going here. He usually gets the really top swanky bath with a blueberry facial and a moisturizing paw rub. The past 3 times we have brought him here his reaction upon arriving is TOTALLY different! He used to wag his tail when we pulled into the parking lot and instantly jumped out of the car and was happy to be taken inside and into the grooming salon. Now, as we pull in he begins to tremble as we park and he sees the groomer coming toward the car he begins to violently shake. Even as I petted and comforted him, he would not stop trembling. When we open the car door, he refuses to jump out (rare for him) even after telling him "It's ok, you can get out now." He refuses. (He's never done this before anywhere ever.) When we finally basically pick him up and take him out of the car (not an easy job... he's 125 lbs.) he whimpers when the groomer takes the leash. The groomer has to practically to drag him inside. He looks back as us with this look like, please don't leave me here. First time it happened, it wasn't this obviously drastic, mostly I got a weird feeling and noticed he wasn't excited to be here like usual. Second time, I chocked it up to he was just a little anxious, and drove away somewhat worried about his behavior. After this third display of terror, it's obvious. There is something not right going on there. (I kicked myself for not following my intuition as his momma and should have never brought him here a third time.) After his last few visits, we also noticed he didn't look or smell like he usually does after being groomed here. Normally his face smells so good due to the blueberry facial. His paw pads always looked and felt softer. Not anymore. He doesn't smell good. I'm not even sure they're using soap, they could be just rinsing him off and then drying him. Also, his ears don't look like they were cleaned at all. His ears don't get super dirty in the first place, but they don't look like they had been touched at all. Like many others posting here, I am also neighbors and therefore familiar with the situation involving Noel and having her tail amputated. I was a faithful customer to Healthy Spot - Costa Mesa. I referred them to everyone. I even wrote them a raving 5 star review here on Yelp over a year ago. I have now removed my previous rating I had posted on Yelp and posted this one in its place. If you love your dog like a child and would NEVER risk putting them in a potentially abusive or harmful situation.... Then don't risk it here. read more
