Arlene A. on 11/27 left a review saying that saying that because she couldn't pay for the service contract, Petro refused to deliver them oil. I can confirm that even though I've been paying for a service contract for 3 years (and been a member since Kasden Fuels in 2017), I can't get oil either. This is on top of an email confirming I'd get oil yesterday. The only response I got from the customer service rep was "I'll get oil when they're in the area". Uhh...we're not talking about stopping by for a coffee, we're talking about heating oil to keep my pipes from freezing over. My guess is either the company is on the verge of bankruptcy and can't afford to get heating oil to deliver, or is such a bad company to work for they don't have any remaining drivers. If you're somehow reading this review in the future and debating if Petro is worth using for services or oil...don't. Whatever is going on, this is clearly a company in deep financial or management issues that I don't see them ever coming back from. My heart goes out to the employees that have to suffer from whatever the hell is going on over there. Look up the CT Oil Co-Op and have them redirect you to a company that is worth using. read more

yeah, don't bother. I saw this first hand. Ended up costing g my daughter and son in law a pretty penny AFTER they were out twice. my son in law found the problem after they had left the second time. Their ac drainage in the attic was leaking due to some pipe issues that needed replacing. The "tech" didn't find the problem and their ceiling is collapsing. Everything needs replacing. So, thousands of dollars later, they're not taking any responsibility. read more

I am in disbelief. I moved to new home and called petro because they gave $100 bonus. there was nothing to sign they just credited account after first oil fill. we also had them do our propane. they charged us to move tank, said too close to house, then our solar company said they moved it too close to house so they had charged us to move it again. besides this, after 11 months , their oil prices were so much higher than everyone else(they told us it's because they have customer service) , so we could no longer afford The oil account . we kept our propane account with them . now I am receiving bill for the bonus $100 plus interest charges they're taking back! ! they told me we need to stay with them for a year. I asked them to see that in writing that they told me I signed, this and they said that was private And I could not have access to it . I never signed anything like that. I am so upset, they should at least prorate the bonus if theyre taking it back, it is truly cheating and sneaky . I will be filing complaint with BBB and attorney general office, as this is unfair practice . read more

Technicians do not know what they're doing. They panic at the sight of a smart thermostat even though the smart thermostat isn't the problem. The system is. The first technician did something to the thermostat & it stopped working. He admitted that he's not trained on a/c even though I pointed out to them that it's the unit that's the issue. The second guy re-wired the thermostat incorrectly and said to get an electrician because he's not doing anymore with it. He also tried to sell me a thermostat that wasn't comparable & cost more than what I paid for thermostat & got mad when I told him i didn't want it. Two people came out & my unit still doesn't work. My uncle came out & saw the wiring & laughed at it & corrected it & now the thermostat is working again but the unit doesn't work. I don't know how much I have to stress that the unit is the problem & not the thermostat. He thinks it might be the board so we're going to try replacing that & see. My uncle knows a little about what he's doing but doesn't know enough to figure out the unit but hire my uncle & train him up & make him these guys supervisor because the guys you have working for you don't have a clue what they're doing. The last guy told me that there's no way my a/c was working before when I live in the house & not him. Just goes to show you how women don't even know how to tell cold air from hot air. I also feel like every time Petro comes out they always say it's the wiring & they're the ones who wire stuff because they were the ones I used o service the system. I was told someone would reach out to me to discuss waiving the charge & it's been about 4 days now & nothing. Petro believes it's ok to send people out who don't know what they're doing & then charge you for it. They're excellent at sweeping out your furnace & putting in a filter but that's it. We have been customers of Petro since they assumed Krall Oil Co. Customers with Krall oil & coal since 1948. Excellent customer service reps. Friendly delivery people and knowledgable technicians. However, I just learned within the last few days that if you pay in full within 15 days you also need to call them to tell that you did so!!! I had a credit balance for referring a new customer and called to check on it and found out it had dwindled down by $40. The rep I spoke with was very nice and corrected my account by looking at delivery dates and pay dates. However there is nothing in their disclosures that indicates you need to notify them that you have paid in full. Had been a customer for 3 years, contracted them to replace my tank mainly due to lead time and they had already been involved. Was given a price with a "rebate" that would be completed using the tank serial number and should be in my hand in 90 days. Fine, called at the 90 day mark, nothing. 120 day mark, "state delays", 180 day mark, "covid delays", 1 Year, "NO FUNDS", what? So after being strung along, I don't get the promised rebate. Ok, not happy but I'll move on. Scheduled a tune up through their online, confirmed via their automated and a call....day of appointment, getting later and more past window, ok, I get things happen, just before the end of their day, call to get an update .....get told "oops, we booked and confirmed you but the tech is finishing their day". Fantastic, day wasted waiting for the tech and have to burn another PTO day to reschedule. That appointment was completed, then got a call a few hours later stating tech believes he left his test tools and is absolutely sure I have them....uh, no. Furnace is in a wide open basement, no place they can be.​ Now it comes to renew my contract, literally almost double for a cap. What? No option other than a contract or take variable. So I called a competitor, fixed price and almost $1/gal cheaper. Call petro back and tell them the price, I can't cancel, I have to speak to a manager. Fine, when? I have to wait for them to call. So I tell the manager the rebate story and the current price vs. What I was just offered. Begin the hard sell tactic after stating I'll get my rebate as a credit. Told the manager I'm not signing because they're not competitive. I still am not allowed to cancel, I have to wait for another retention manager to see if they can better the price to keep me on....getting car dealership vibes here. Waited 2 days, called again to cancel, nope, can't cancel without speaking to a retention rep. I JUST DID THAT 2 DAYS AGO. Petro not only renewed the service contract but it's impossible to get these "retention" people on the phone or to return calls in a timely manner. I state I want to cancel, like I have multiple times...begin the hard sale tactic again. Told them cancel and issue a check, oh, the $ amount doesn't match and is higher that I owe....REALLY? I'm looking right at the balance due. At this point it's principal. 2 years to get a rebate that should have been a non issue, nothing until I threatened to cancel. Now, I owe more $ than their own bill pay site shows, how is that even possible? Fine, I don't have hours to sit and go through all this....cancel me and send me a check or EFT the money, nope. Wait 12-15 business days for it, and much like the rebate, it's someone else's fault, the post office is slow with letters. Management should be ashamed. Like dealing with a bad used car dealer. Run, don't walk to another oil dealer, anyone is better. Petro claimed they may be "slightly more expensive but their service justifies it" do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This company doesn't care about the worth of your time and is unprofessional as they come. read more

On a Saturday Petro came to my house withing 3 hours for a fix! Prices for oil or a bit on the higher side but for that response time on a holiday weekend was quite impressive.... Though they lost a star because repairman could not explain why my switch for furnace kept going to the off position. He brushed off any serious issues as he stated it was just a switch and nothing would cause it to turn off. He then said it could be a ghost and that he believes in them. Being a skeptic on ghost I was in denial at first but now have spent the past four hours begging the ghost if he exist to chill out because it is too cold not to have the heat work. Subsequently I have watched Ghostbusters to get a better understanding of what I am dealing with. I am not talking about the reboot, I am talking Bill and Dan original style. I dont think anyone watched the reboot and am now convinced that if I put it on TV on a loop the ghost will go back into hiding. The repairman brought the possessed furnace lightswitch with him and replaced it thankfully. Hopefully he buried it where the light of day will never see it. I now believe in ghost read more

Paul came to the house to fix my broken air conditioning. The problem was complicated, as a mouse had shorted some compressor wiring outside the house, which blew a fuse and a low voltage controller in the air handler in the attic. Paul worked through the problem, found the required replacement parts and fixed my air conditioning in one day. It was terrific job of detective work and perseverance. Horrible signed up as a new customer they congratulated me and said I would receive a call! No call no date no inspection no credit card on file they just show up take a black garbage bag off a bad pipe and proceeded to fill my basement with oil! They even charged me for the oil filled in my basement as a separate bill! DEEP and clean up crew involved! My basement is ruined! Sent out again and still missed the oil spots! The wooden stairs have oil the support beam has oil on it! The lady who answered the phone told me they would discount the oil that was not in the tank! They went sure if they are going to use my insurance or theirs! DEEP said they are at fault! They are in breach of contract not checking the oil tank as said in contract no call as said in contract! Instead I have a big mess and they are trying to treat me as if I am in the wrong! I am extremely disappointed in this company- quoted me one price per gallon but then when they delivered it was .70 more per gallon - after discussing the issue with the company they agreed to adjust our bill - we'll see as I have not received the adjusted bill yet! another issue is we had a cleaning scheduled (made in Feb 2020) for October 5th between 8 - 12 and get a phone call at 8:45 on the day of our scheduled cleaning that they were rescheduling our cleaning to the middle of November!! When I asked why she told me "they had alot of emergencies (really!!!!???) to do so they were rescheduling cleanings!!! Not a very reliable company for what we pay for oil per gallon! read more

My husband and I have been with Petro Oil for over 12 years. Because we are unable to pay the service agreement, which is not required from customer, Petro refuses to deliver oil even though we have less than a quarter of oil left in our tank. I have never in the 60 years that I've been receiving oil deliverie, had a service so abrupt,, that all my glassware broke off the shelves in my home. ‍That's what I came home to after working all day‍. And then they tried to say they had to install a new tube just to get oil into the pipe itself. I found a massive wrench lying on the ground, Where they had smash the top of the pipe to get it off and replaced it with a piece of junk. They didn't even offer any incentive after lying about what truly happened. Said some thing that didn't make any sense "needed a new lining for their hose to fit. I have used them for 20 years since I bought this house. Their service personnel are always professional and friendly. I have service with them both for oil heat and for air conditioning. They have maintained my equipment reliably and have replaced them when needed. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of the service technicians they employ. We purchased a home in the area a little over a year ago. We called Petro because the previous owners had the furnace done by them and as new home owners, we had never had oil before. Fast forward to today (Nov 21, 2013) I called to cancel our contract because the "ceiling plan" price was asinine and they forwarded me to their "Retention Department" so a woman could be incredibly nasty to me. She was rude, made me feel inadequate and that I had no idea what I was talking about when I told her that their costs were insane compared to at least a half dozen other local, smaller companies. That being said, they did have very nice techs who did a fine job repairing and maintaining our oil furnace and they did deliver monthly. read more

My tenants renting my house bought oil annually from them for several years. I likewise used them for HVAC service issues and an bought an annual service contract. I recently requested Petro to read the oil gauges in the house as the house is being sold and I need a verified reading to present to the buyers. Talked to several employees via phone but they would not do a reading since I only had a service contract even though my tenants spent thousand of $$ with them over several years. I will not recommend them to anyone including the new owners of this house. They lost out to deliver over 1000 gallons of oil a year due to a refusal to read a simple gauge. We purchased a home in 2016 that has oil heat. We chose Petro because their sales contract and oil prices were the best. We were very pleased with the service provided by Petro. They addressed all mechanical issues in a very timely manner at no additional cost to us. Oil was delivered as scheduled. In 2017 we went with another company to take advantage of their new customer rates. We never used the service contract as Petro left our furnace in good shape, we had to call repeatedly for oil delivery even though we were on a regular schedule. We called around for the 2018 season and we went back to Petro as their prices are very good and we were pleased with prior service. We have had positive experiences with their sales department, service department and the technicians that have serviced our furnace. We have recommended Petro to family members. read more

We were looking for an oil plan and I'm SO SO GLAD I did not sign an agreement with Petro! What went wrong: -they did not send out the agreement (went to wrong address). Fortunately I called and after reviewing the agreement, I declined it verbally and in writing within their stated deadlines. -Call #1: I received a paper bill for the furnace cleaning...this appointment had been cancelled when I gave the verbal cancellation of the agreement. I called billing, explained this and said it was taken care of. -Call #2: a couple weeks later, I receive a call regarding bill payment. I explained again that we cancelled the agreement and the furnace cleaning appointment had been cancelled - no service received, no billing. I was told it would be taken off my bill. -After a month: I receive a SECOND paper bill for the same furnace cleaning (which I did not receive). I called and during this 3rd phone call I explained everything again and that I wanted to speak with a manager. The customer svc rep was very courteous and apologized for the inconvenience giving me a glimmer of hope that this was the last call on this billing error. btw on this call, the 1-800 number was busy, so I tried calling a local Petro number and got through to someone. -The very SAME DAY (but later), I received a 4th call from billing regarding paying this furnace cleaning bill!!! I explained a FOURTH time the details. The rep said I see here that you're to receive a credit on the account negating the bill. I asked, then "why are you calling me to pay it?!?" She indicated that it was a robocall system to all outstanding accounts. I was assured it would be credited to my account and this would be it. We shall see! I will update this review if I hear from Petro again or get a 3rd paper bill. If I do, at that point I will make a report to the BBB for billing harassment and may retain an attorney to send them a notice of harassment and to reverse any negative credit reports of non-payment (if any). Besides the administrative cluster that Petro is, this experience has validated my decision to NOT sign their agreement. I will always question any service plan that gives me a 1-800 number. Each time I spoke with someone, I recorded their name and location and each time I got a different person, location(PA and NJ) and sometimes even a subsidiary! Petro's left hand doesn't know what its right hand is doing when it comes to customer service. Thank God, I didn't sign an agreement and have to make a service request. I can only imagine the nightmare! Other Yelp reviewers have also reported shady practices, broken furnaces/inexperienced service techs, $400 cancellation fees, up-charging over market rates for flex-price oil plans, sending threatening letters/involving courts. RUN VERY FAST AND FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I don't know how they remain in business. Instead, we found a local HVAC company that is local and that knows me by name. This company has provide home heating for us since 1991. I have never had to worry about how much oil I have and the service contract has ensured we always have heat when we need it. I suggest the year round contract so you are prepaid for the oil through the winter. Good reliable service read more

I cancelled my service with Petro. I had called in early October of 2015 to schedule a furnace tune up under my service contract. I was given an appointment in March of 2016. When I called to cancel my service I was asked why and when I told them about my tuning request I was told that this wasn't covered under my service contract. It had been with my previous oil service company. Also, my final oil delivery in November of 2015 I was charged 2.199/gallon for heating oil. On that date I could have gotten oil for $1.949/gallon. read more
