The vet care is adequate; however, there are a few issues to be aware of. As someone else mentioned, there is no grass for relieving your nervous pet prior to going in or coming out of the building. I've also consistently had problems with accurate documentation of vaccines and mentioned multiple times by email, phone, and in-person that my dog is up-to-date with vaccines and they can stop sending me notices in the mail. I provide proof of this every time, but it still continues. A huge negative is that there was no vet or tech follow-up conveying recent lab test results causing a delay in treatment. I was told results take two weeks, but the date on the paperwork shows they had access to the results a full week ago. Only after I called, was a plan of treatment set in place. I have considered going to a different location for veterinary services due to these issues, but likely the next place would have their own issues. One plus for this office is that they coordinate care with an an outside provider who provides chiropractic care and red-light therapy.

This (chilly!) morning we had a really special opportunity to tour Kentucky Equine Adoption Center…read more(KyEAC) as part of Horse Country's community-based event: Meet the Neighbors. I'm SO happy this annual program has returned post-COVID! KyEAC is the largest all-breed equine rescue in Kentucky, situated on 72 rolling acres on Catnip Hill Road in Nicholasville. Right now they have 48 horses available for adoption, with 4 more on the way, and a waitlist a mile long. At any given time they have ~50% thoroughbreds, plus wild/feral horses, and horses from the strip mines of Eastern Kentucky. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, part of their mission is to find the perfect home and purpose for every horse - whether as therapeutic companions, trail horses, or pasture ponies. On the tour - led by Susan Powers - we learned how KyEAC operates, met all the horses and heard their stories, and were treated to a short demonstration in the arena. I was floored. The staff and volunteers at KyEAC are doing amazing work advocating and caring for our most noble and precious symbols of the Bluegrass State. Despite her leaving, we continued bringing our dogs here until recently, when we had an emergency situation and they were not available for us because Dr Rowland was on vacation and did not have another veterinarian to cover for him for emergency after hours calls. So we ended up taking our dog to another clinic. We are very disappointed because Heartland claims to be a 24/7 emergency practice for their clients.
