I had a very difficult experience with Metro Animal Shelter that I feel others should be aware of…read more We adopted a puppy who was about 2 1/2 months old. During the first week, she seemed healthy, energetic, and full of life. We took her to the vet right away for a full exam and began standard preventative care, followed by a second visit for age-appropriate vaccinations. About a week later, she began showing signs of worms. We followed veterinary guidance and gave her the recommended medication. Shortly after, her condition changed significantly; she became lethargic, stopped eating, and began vomiting. At first, we believed this was a reaction to the medication, but her condition worsened quickly. Within days, we had to take her to an emergency vet, where we were told she had advanced Parvo. We ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. She was only with us for about 15 days. Beyond this experience, I was also very concerned with the overall conditions at the shelter. The smell of feces upon entering was overwhelming, and many animals appeared to be in unsanitary conditions, lying in urine or feces. I have also made repeated attempts to contact the Executive Director, Jennifer, over the course of four days, calling on multiple occasions and leaving voicemails. I was informed that my messages were received and that my repeated attempts were known, yet I have not received a response. This lack of communication is unprofessional and concerning. This was not just a disappointing experience; it was devastating. Adopting a pet should be a joyful and hopeful process, and unfortunately, that was not the case here. I would strongly encourage anyone considering adoption to ask detailed questions about health screenings, vaccinations, and overall care conditions before making a decision.

When I picked up the animal, it was already visibly sick. I returned the cat to the shelter for medical treatment, but it received no care and later died. During my visits, I also observed other cats and animals that were visibly ill, without adequate food, water, or proper care. The conditions inside the shelter raise great concerns for the welfare of the animals being housed there.

I took my Chihuahua Gator to Town & Country vet less than an hour ago to get his little painful rear end checked for problems he's been having for several months. Me being a paramedic and worked for them for several years I knew it was his anal glands but they were so sore he would not let me express or drain them. I trusted them with my puppy as a tattooed lady came and got him and assured me he would be OK. The sounds I heard this dog make chilled me to the bone and made me think he was being boiled in hot oil. I ran out of the room to see 3 vet techs holding him down and him screaming. They assured me he was ok and I went back in the exam room....shaking. When said tattooed lady brought him back in and we questioned her as to what happened she LAUGHED and said "oh he got upset when we touched his belly". Ok lady...he has NEVER made that sound when myself or anyone else touched his belly...yall FREAKING HURT AND FOREVER TRAUMATIZED MY SWEET GATOR. He did not deserve to be treated this way. I was charged almost 50 bucks for the exam, draining butt glands, AND a 2 dollar disposal fee for butt gland juice. Y'all charged me for that?... you could've put it in a freaking bag and I would've taken it home and disposed of it myself. I went to the front, asked to pay for my services today, canceled my cats appointment for tomorrow, and had to request an exam by the so-called Vet. Which they did not have me down for even after I requested antibiotics to give him when we got home so that was another $50. These people laughed at what they did to my Gator and I will NEVER, EVER TAKE ANOTHER ANIMAL TO THEM... Unacceptable... I am beyond upset... Neal...you have DISAPPOINTED me and it CANT be fixed...
