I'm so grateful to have a place to send my fur baby knowing that he will be safe and loved and taking care of . The staff is amazing they made him comfortable because this was his first interaction with puppy population. And now when he comes he recognizes certain staff members and he's okay with going in and leaving me at the counter! Just walking into this Petsmart in East Hartford you are greeted with the warmest welcome ever! Her name is Rachel and she is a bright, shining light. She was ringing up customers at the cashier spot right at the door. What an awesome Lady. She was so friendly, really made my day. Then there is another great Lady name Pam who works in the pet hotel department. She is always so friendly and down-to-earth. I remember a couple times how impressed i was with her as she was juggling a million different things as she was helping me make my pet hotel appointment. I came at a really busy time and she was handling it like a Champ! She had people asking her questions, another customer was on the phone, etc.. and she just took care of it all and with maintaining a calm and affable demeanor. Both these ladies are solid A+ people and PetSmart is fortunate to have them on the team and we customers are lucky to run into folks like them to help us. The question is always,"Petco or Petsmart?" They are within a reasonable distance from one another, so I find myself pondering this dilemma quite often. If I'm boarding my Boston terrier Jeannie, absolutely Petsmart. If I'm buying pet food, Petco. For some things, Petco is actually pricier and with a smaller selection. But only Petco carries the Merrick brand food my dog loves and a very good loyalty program for us with buying rewards, so I'm here for the special coupon mailings. Petsmart also has its specials if you sign up for the card and the selection is just bigger. Both places have knowledgeable & helpful staff, but I'm reviewing Petsmart right now, so I have to say I enjoy the staff there and feel comfortable asking advice. They have a great inventory and mostly competitive prices & sales. Our Jeannie loves to visit the store and everyone makes her feel welcome! Kudos to staff helping clean up her last 'oopsie' in the dog food aisle. I'm pet shopping often, since we also do foster pet care for protectors of animals in East Hartford. The groomer my long haired German Shepherd had, had clearly never encountered one for grooming before. I said bath, brush & nail trim. He ended up being there eight hours!! No idea why!! And lots of his long hair was cut off for no reason. He looked raggedy. It was awful. read more

We have always had great service for Valentino and for his sister while she was alive. So we were terribly surprised by an abrupt explanation from your staff when we arrived to pick him up from the hotel after 10 days that he was whining and complaining too much. She seemed almost angry at him and we have never such a negative from a staff member to him in all the years we've used this hotel and other hotels in California and Virginia. She also failed to give us the normal report card on his stay. When we got him, he was whimpering and obviously unhappy and continued to be as we went home to Middletown. My wife had to hold him closely to keep him as calm as possible. She was afraid he was having trouble breathing. He only began to act normally after a few hours with us. We would request you to discuss with your staff and let us know what you find out. We don't plan to use the hotel again. read more

Ooh...Petsmart, unfortunately for you my dog is a way better person that I am. My dog's name is Sparta. She is a doll. My husband and I rescued her three weeks ago and have trained her to respond reliably to commands. Sparta shows no signs of dominant behaviors; she is content to snuggle and play with any person who approaches. However, she has never been an only dog and she gets lonely when I am at work. So I came in to get info and have her assessed for Day Camp. Sparta and I were sitting at the Dog Hotel, waiting our turn to speak with staff. The staff person approached and immediately informed us that Sparta could not participate in Day Camp because of her breed. Never mind that she was obedient, quietly sitting next to me the entire time. Never mind that she is a mixed breed. The staff person basically said, your dog looks like a pit bull and we don't allow them in play groups. I learned that Petsmart actively discriminates against any dog: "that have the appearance or characteristics of wolves/wolf hybrids American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or mixed breeds" Let's ignore that "wolflike appearance" can apply to literally any dog (they are domesticated wolves) ... so literally any dog can be REJECTED for Day Camp on looks alone, regardless of their actual temperament or behavior. "Bully Breeds", which are clearly the target of this policy, are over represented in animal shelters. Organizations that make profit on animal health and wellness should NEVER condone breed specific prohibitions. Breed specific rules do not make people or pets safer. I just means that pet families may not be able to access services for their dogs. Breed specific rules penalize dogs that need ADVOCACY and their owners who are trying to do right by their companions. Anyone who has met one b-hole labradoodle knows that even the breeds perceived as approachable can be problematic. This was beyond a disappointing experience. I will never patronize a Petsmart while this policy stands. I will not purchase from Chewy and I will make sure that I share this experience so that other lovers of big, happy rescue dogs are prepared to make their own choices with regard to which organizations support their companions. read more

One of the best petsmarts in my opinion! As soon as I walked in they greeted me a little understaffed but very friendly I wanted to buy a leopard gecko and within a couple minutes they got someone to help me out the lady was very nice and the geckos were all baby's and very adorable unlike most pet stores with older geckos. I ended up buying the smallest one in the tank everything was very quick and efficient I bought only 15 small crickets and the guy checking us out was nice enough to give us way more then 15 and only charge us for that amount! He was very nice as well you don't get this attitude from a lot of pet stores these day I enjoyed my visit and I will be going there from now on for all my supplies. :) read more

Absolutely terrible animal care here. Every time I visit, there are guinea pigs, hamsters, or other small animals that are visibly ill on display. They do not check their animals for ring worm, mites, eye infections, respiratory infections, or other issues, and leave them out to be sold. I have spoken to management, and still they pay no attention to these poor animals. Today was the last straw, after talking to management weeks ago there are still no changes. This place couldn't be more disorganized. We have brought our dog there multiple times and some how suddenly on a visit we were told they wouldn't take him because his vaccinations weren't on file. Even though they could see in their system he had been there no more than a month ago and had a completed appointment. I was then told essentially that it wasn't their problem. Not only did he cry when I dropped him off for his app, he tried running out the door. We've boarded our dogs here for the last 6 years when we go on vacation. The staff know our dog's names, always talk to our dogs joyfully, and take the time to explain charges and add on options to me. We only leave our dogs about 3 times a year, but I always feel good knowing they get lots of love when they're here. We do pay extra for one on one time and other perks, so it does add up cost wise. Our dogs are also small, so they're able to share a room. So admittedly our experience probably isn't comparable to someone's experience who has a large dog. Either way though we love the Petsmart Hotel! read more

I usually get irritated when I leave the store and all of the associates go out of their way to say goodbye to me, but today at Petsmart I was looking for a wormer for my cat, which I did not find and I am never inclined to ask for help. But as I was ready to exit the store the employee that was telling me to have a good day was so friendly that I happened to say that I couldn't find what I was looking for. It turns out the product I was looking for is never on display because it is a prescription medication. The employee was able to get me the medication for my cat and I am thrilled because I wasn't going to be able to get a ride for another whole weekend my poor kitty would've had to suffer with these horrifying symptoms for a whole week more. They also lied to us about our reservation which was made a month in advance. Per the front desk employee they couldn't find our reservation. (I call BS ON IT!) In addition to aggravating our dog's anxiety they flipped the blame on us and started saying one of our dogs had been aggressive when we boarded him last time. Interestingly enough they never disclosed this information to us when we picked them up the first time. Please do yourself and your furry babies a favor and board them elsewhere. They do not simply kennel your pet....it is active daycare, playtime, pampering, and love. The staff here loves animals. And my Jeannie loves them. And all the friends she made here. I hate to leave my sweet dog, but when I must, I want her in a place I can trust. A place she looks forward to visiting. A place that cares about my darling Jeannie as if she was a member of their own family. And that is Petsmart Pet Hotel. Ever see your dog smile. Mine does every time we walk in there. Another fine stay for our now slightly less-maintenance dog. Check-in was a breeze because all the forms they need you to complete are online for printing, and I was able to print out her vaccination records from our vet's website. It took all of maybe 5 minutes to get her settled. She stayed in a "suite" as before and this time we asked that she get a bath and pedicure (paw-dicure?) before we picked her up. When we picked her up the next day they were just finishing doing her nails. She had never been bathed or had her nails done by anyone other than me before so we were a little nervous as to how this would go. Thankfully she did well. She's shy around men so she was a little scared of the man who did her nails but they still came out great so apparently he was able to calm her down enough to do a really good job. She looked and smelled super clean and her fur is like SILK! I don't know what they used for shampoo but we can't stop patting her - and she loves it! read more

This is the worst petsmart grooming service I have ever been to for my 6 month old golden doodle. We asked them to pluck the hair inside his ears and they have used a razor inside tge flap of his ears. When we brought him home noticed pinkish red patches inside his ears and he would constantly shake his head to the sides. After few days noticed dark brown colored hurst(big patches) in the same spot. He is just a puppy and it must have been so painful for him. Exorbatantly high prices for pet food! For the love of pete, go over the Route 3 bridge and get it at Walmart. Or, even better, make the trek up to Manchester and get it at Sam's Club. This is a great store for extremely specialty pet items. If you have "fur babies", rather than a pet, then this store and their wares are perfect for you. I, as much as I love Gizmo, have a pet. He's just fine with the basic, run of the mill Pedigree food and doesn't need fancy stuff. Fancy stuff gives him gas that will strip the paint off of your walls. I do like that they allow animals in the store itself. I also know that if there is some really strange or specific pet item I want to get as a gift, this is a reliable place to check out. At first thought their grooming was great, would always take my pup there for a nail cut. Out of nowhere the staff started acting rude and I could tell they weren't fond of me or my family. I took my pup there sometime last week and when I was looking at her nails, I saw they cut too far down and saw the spot the blood had come from. They didn't even tell me that anything happened and when I went to pick up my pup she was traumatized and I was confused why. I boarded by friendly 115 Rottweiler over the weekend at the East Hartford PetSmart Hotel. I selected the platinum package to maximum her socialization time with other large dogs, while providing her with her own room at night, and a bath before leaving. This was my first time using PetSmart Hotel, and I could not have been happier. The staff were all extremely friendly, kind, knowledgeable and professional. They thoroughly checked over all incoming dogs, making sure they didn't have fleas and had all the proper vaccinations. Once cleared, she was put into a large room where she immediately started playing with the other dogs. They emailed me a picture of my dog and gave me a report card of how she did when I picked her up. Clearly, she had a wonderful experience as she licked all her new caregivers good-bye! I highly recommend boarding dogs at this location, and look forward to using them again in the future. read more

I boarded by one year-old cat here in June 2017. It was my cat's first time boarding and I had a good experience with PetSmart in boarding another pet here several years ago. Customer service upon drop-off could not have been worse. We arrived and were kept waiting ten minutes until someone came to the front. Finally, a very acerbic dark-haired woman, whose name I must have erased out of self preservation, came out. She was horrendous. She treated us as though we were annoying her, unimportant, and that she had a million better things to do. Her attitude was beyond unprofessional and compassionate. This is NOT the kind of person to whom you want to hand your beloved pet. She then told us that if the cat did not pee or poop in 24 hours, they would need to take her to a vet at our cost to ensure no bowel obstruction. WTH is that about?? I have NEVER been told such a thing at a boarding facility. Who could prove it either way!? So because my flight was leaving in a few hours, I had NO CHOICE but to leave my cat there. I was so upset at the way we were treated that I was worried about the way my cat was going to be treated. I was afraid of a $800 vet bill upon returning home. It absolutely cast a huge shadow on my vacation,and I am so very sorry I brought my cat there. STAY AWAY. Next time - Best Friends Pet Resort in Rocky Hill - always a good choice. read more

I totally agree about the dog daycare. There were way too many dogs crammed in a small room and many seemed to be overwhelmed as they had no where to get away from the more boisterous ones. The attendant seemed overwhelmed too and spent all her time picking up poo and not watching the dogs. Some of the little ones were being bullied by the larger dogs and it was pretty pathetic to see them trying to get away. This was not play, I'm an experienced dog trainer and I know the difference. I would never put my dogs into an environment like that and would not recommend it to my students either. read more

Large selection, good grooming, attentive staff in day camp and pet hotel. This review is of the EAST HARTFORD location during 2012-2014. My experience is with shopping and grooming, day camp and boarding for my DOG. They have a wide selection of pet food and other supplies. Leashes and toys are reasonably priced. I do not buy food here so I can't comment on cost. Overnight boarding and play time are reasonably priced. The staff are extremely helpful. They know me and my dog, they accommodate my dog's needs, and they report and describe anything I want to know about my pet's stay. Play is well supervised. The staff know which dogs get along with others (or don't) and which groups of dogs to put together. The only criticism is that the play areas are relatively small, so dogs need to be very tolerant of one another. The best endorsement: my dog loves to come back. The grooming is expensive but competitive with other groomers and locations. My dog is happy being in the grooming salon; compare that with how most dogs react when they see a bathtub! I've never seen any nicks or cuts as described by another reviewer. My dog always comes back clean, safe, nicely trimmed and very happy. I've taken my dog to several other kennels in the area, but this one is the best for boarding. I recommend Petsmart. read more
