First, a great groomer and manager at NYC's Flatiron store Grooming who headed back to Minnesota after the Covid lockdown and then an excellent breeder and groomer who has opened a beautiful new grooming salon but it's over an hour from us So we decided to test out the grooming team at this store, and we were pleasantly surprised. Sam and Courtney were incredible in their friendly welcoming of our dog and ourselves and did an excellent job at following our grooming requests. Upon picking our dog up, you could tell that they helped to put him at ease in the new environment and the new grooming team. Have already made his next appointment. Thank You. read more

The question is always,"Petco or petsmart?" They are within a reasonable distance from one another, so I find myself pondering this dilemma quite often. If I'm boarding my Boston terrier Jeannie, absolutely Petsmart. If I'm buying pet food, Petco. For some things, Petco is actually pricier and with a smaller selection. But Petco carries the Merrick brand food my dog loves and a very good loyalty program for us with buying rewards, so I'm here for the special coupon mailings. Petsmart also has its specials if you sign up for the card and the selection is just bigger. Both places have knowledgeable & helpful staff, but I'm reviewing Petco right now, so I have to say I enjoy the staff there and feel comfortable asking advice. I'm stuck on this store basically because our Jeannie likes the food best. The limited ingredient Merrick canned (& dry) food really helps her digestion and she always cleans her bowl. She loves to visit the store and everyone makes her feel welcome! I'm pet shopping often, since we also do foster pet care for protectors of animals in East Hartford. well being a non pet owner was good while it lasted, now we are cat nation. 4 stars, thankful for their help and curbside pick up, no touch, no getting out of the car. so many options for your pets, why not give them your business? there are 4+ pet stores in a square mile of this place, so maybe you can find a cheaper price for this or a selection of items of that, but why not check them out and see what they have? meow. read more

The employees working here are always friendly and helpful. Earlier in the week, I was trying to locate a very specific brand of dog food for our whippet who has extreme sensitivity to certain ingredients in some brands of dog food. The employee here who assisted us was very helpful and went out of their way to help us find what we were looking for. There have also been several other instances of them going out of their way to help. Plus the store is immaculately clean which is always important. I would highly recommend shopping here if you only want the best for your four-legged friends! read more

came in to buy a fish. like a tiny 99 cent fish. the ambitious fish girl that helped us asked us questions about our tank and environment and gave us the 15 minute lecture about how often we should he changing our water and how we were looking at the wrong kind of fish. made me feel like i was mistreating my fish at first, and then she jabbed the net into the tank and pushed him out of the net into the large plastic bag that rolled around in the backseat of our car on the ride home. update: fish made it home ok, seems to like our tank even if it is smaller than we were told it should be. they have all sorts of other pet stuff here. seems under staffed - usually there is someone at the register but if you want help its not easy to find someone on the floor. they have the byo kitty litter setup so you can reuse the container and save some money and waste less plastic. read more

I really wish people would stop whining about little trivial things! I went and picked up a cat at Petco that I was approved to adopt. Sure they were a bit busy at the time but when the salesman to help me with the paperwork he was great in answering all my questions, comments, etc. I had his full attention on all day had to do with the adoption, paperwork, etc. Very happy to do do business with them. The cat I was adopting was well taken care of, clean cage, clean litter box, fresh water, food and toys in her cage. My husband and I were very happy to do business with this store. I thought the store was clean and neat looking also. I did get the help I needed when inquiring about where to pick up my new fur baby that was being housed there until we picked her up. Keep up the good work. This adoption took place the last Monday in January, around 5:00PM. I wish I got the young man's name who waited on us. He was very thorough going through our adoption information and paperwork on our new Fur Baby named Keisha who originally was from the Meriden animal control. Great adoption and we love our new addition! read more

Lovely staffers with animal savvy. I love dogs and own an 18 year old cat who I rescued at 4 weeks old. The concern with this site is its odour. When you enter the store, it smells of dog. Kennel owners usually try to aerate their animal areas for this very reason. I was told the AC is broken by the nice cash wrap gal. One would like a store to be clean, bright and essentially odour free. At least, I would. While tried and true in terms of inventory, this site probably could use a renovation in terms of store design and air systems. But old standbys are nice to patronize when staffers are friendly. As for product. Petco stocks superior brand foods which can not be purchased in most food markets, no matter how super. I tried my luck with an 'organic' healthful type product from WF. I think my cat chortled at my chutzpah. That tinned puree smelled most unpleasant. I digress. My cat has been happy with the SOULISTIC brand which I've bought from Petco for 9 years. He also remains bonkers over his lavender WORLDS BEST LITTER which I blend in with SLIDE. And I do mean happy. He is a bottled water cat, raised on it. What can I say, this is as silly as I get. I don't cook him foods and he does not inhabit any cat condos. And I seem to know when he is a tad constipated vs having any form of ague or plague. I've NURSED him forever and have been up thrice nightly for three years to keep him company when he gets lonely. So many stories because we pet owners become devoted to our animals [although some dog owners don't understand the necessity of a cat at all]. And for the most part when necessary, he has been taken care of nobly by animal doctors. As for PETCO. I enjoy their loyalty program. Spend $100 and receive a $5 reward coupon. This seems fair. read more

I was very disappointed about my recent visit to this particular Petco. Upon entering the store I noticed that there were two female guinea pigs out on the sales floor in a c&c style cage atop a folding table. I immediately noticed that the two guinea pigs were ill. They had obvious signs of an upper respiratory infection (crusty eyes, crusty nose, semi-lethargic behavior). I brought up this issue to the attention of the associate who checked me out. She informed me that the guinea pigs came in as surrenders. Herself, as well as other associates, had mentioned the health concerns to the store manager. The associate then informed me that the manager brushed off the issue as not being important. She explained that the manager had told another associate that worked specifically in that department to simply "wipe off the crust" and that they were making it into a bigger issue than it was. An upper respiratory infection is extremely serious to guinea pigs. If left untreated this can turn into a lower respiratory infection which is fatal. Not to mention the fact that Petco is selling animals out on the floor that are clearly I'll. I myself have worked in a pet store for many years and I am keen to signs of illness. However some people may not know of these signs and are unknowingly purchasing an animal that is ill and may possibly pass away in days or weeks. I have never had any complaints about Petco stores in the past. I really hope customers do not purchase animals from this particular location until something is done. read more

I was sorely disappointed in my first visit to Petco. I just adopted a rescue pup, received a coupon from Petco via email, and went in to do my shopping. I spent over $100, yet the coupon would not be honored. It was an online only coupon. Really? We can't work with this? With all the options for Pet Supply shopping, brick and mortar and online, why refuse a coupon that you offered me? In the future I will spend my efforts at one of the many, many other Pet Supply stores. read more

We had a phenomenal experience at Petco today. All of the staff were friendly and interacted well with my dog who is usually very nervous. An associate named Margot assisted us in choosing a harness and leash system for our Havanese. She was extremely helpful and we were very happy with the products we chose. The staff were also able to match the on line discounted price of the harness and leash, allowing us to get the best prices possible. This will definitely be our first stop for our pet supplies from now on. read more

Perhaps they need more employees? I walked in and noticed the cashier walking away from the register. I was hoping to be in and out of the store but that wasn't the case. I grabbed a few dog toys and proceeded to the register, waited a little for someone to check me out. Another customer wanted to check out and we both looked around for any Petco employee. We saw a few busy grooming dogs but no one else. We both loudly said "Hello", "Hello, Anyone here" and got no response. I walked around the store and saw a woman with a "dog trainer" vest on helping a customer. I asked if there was anyone to check us out, she said she would be right there. I went back to the register and told the other customer that the cashier will be right up. She said this happens all the time at this Petco. After waiting some more, I decided to just leave. Terrible customer service. A reminder why I usually order from Amazon. read more

This is one of the worse pet supply stores I have been in. I asked the sales person if they carried a specific dog snack and she said "Okay"..... then I described it as a chicken flavored chip type of snack and told her I used it in the Kong ball. She brought me to the snacks and asked me if it was a soft type, I again had to describe the snack and she only said "Okay". I finally asked if she had worked there long and might know what they have in stock and she said 6 months. This sales person was the most poorly prepared person I have dealt with and I will not return to that store. I also have to say another customer was at the check out and she came over to me outside and commented on how she didn't seem to know what she was doing. read more

I have never been more embarrassed and insulted in my life. This is the WORST pet store I have ever shopped at. I have been shopping here, because of convenience, for 8 years and todays visit topped the cake. Miss know it all (No names because she had her tag backwards) made a scene when I presented an online coupon as a competitors match. She came right at me as no no this is not going to work I need you to log into the website and show this to me. I explained to her that I have had no issues with this in the past when I have used a competitors price match. I even asked another associated that had helped me numerous times in the past and see curtailed to the no name associate. Then when I explained that I have never had this issue in the past she said that coupon has expired and that I has stolen from the store by presenting it. I asked her to just check me out and she proceed to give me the incorrect total because she did not offer the in store sales price. When I questioned her she said she would have to go to the displace to verify. But before she left she told me the price again, which was a different number, and I informed her that was not what she said in the first place. After agreeing on the price I explained to her AGAIN that I was a Petco member and had a five dollar coupon. She informed me that she did not see it register with my phone number and she continued to press numbers in the cash register. Then all of sudden, surprise to us all, she said oh yeah I see it now. Meanwhile she asked me to put my credit card in the slot, which I did, and waited for it to beep with the remove card code. As I did that she said you put it in wrong and I needed to insert again. I then asked her of she knew what she was doing and she raised her voice and said How dare you and walked away. All I can say is what a piece of work - I have three large dogs and buy a $40 bag of dog food every three weeks and will NOT be back to this store. PS - train your employees on customer service especially in this world of on line shopping!!!! read more
