Staff were very friendly and helpful. The store was clean and all the animals look to be happy and healthy and well taken care of.

This location is a real disappointment when it comes to customer service. My husband and I shopped here several times in preparation before bringing our puppy home and a few times afterward. Virtually each time we visited this Hickory location, there was at least one employee who was unprofessional or downright rude. As I recall during all these visits, we only felt the need to ask one question on one occasion about the availability and location of a product and was led to it but were left to feel as though it had been a burden for the employee. It was a very large bag of kibble, and although we could manage carrying it to checkout ourselves, it would have been nice for at least an offer to have been made for assistance. All of the other experiences involved rude employees stepping between us and products on the shelves, reaching over us while we were trying to look at or retrieve a product while "assisting another customer," and just a general atmosphere that employees would rather be anywhere but there. We then decided that perhaps we should try ordering online and picking up in the store to avoid the unpleasantness. Well, that didn't work out very well either. PetSmart has A LOT of work to do in getting their app user friendly and reliable. The incentives offered for online shopping are also a joke because they exclude most, if not all, well-known and trusted brands. Unfortunately, with all of the options available both online and in-store for meeting our pet's needs, PetSmart has done absolutely nothing competitively "smart" to secure our ongoing business. read more

Charging to use your own pets shampoo and conditioner from their Vet" and agreeing to do it but not telling them your going to charge a extra $16.00 till they pick up their pet is a big No I will not be back in my book! read more

My cat had been attacked in my own yard by 2 large dogs running loose at night. Every vet I called said they were booked up for the day. I remembered PetSmart had a vet and called, went there. After a wait, they took him back. The (young) vet came out and honestly told me she was not able to treat his serious wounds. For which I appreciated her honesty. But then I was told to go to the counter to check out. I had a bill of $49.99 for them to Look at my cat and unable to help him! They referred me to a vet 45 minutes away. read more

My bichon, Dallas has been going to Petsmart in Hickory for more years than I can recall (he is 17 now) and I would trust every single one of these talented groomers with his life! He gets excited to go, and he doesn't hesitate to walk with them to be groomed! I highly recommend them and I will forever be a customer. Thank you ladies. read more

Love shopping at the store BUT the salon is a freaking nightmare that I'll never take my dog back to again!! When I originally called and got an time estimate for a puppy bath, she said about an hour since I got his nails trend last week... so an hour and a half of walking around petsmart I go back in and asked the lady and she said it might be another 4 to 6 hours. I told her I wasn't waiting anymore and to bring him out. He was soaking wet and smells like wet dog. His toenail was bleeding because she trimmed his nails after I asked her not to. He saw me and got excited and started jumping at the counter and she popped him on the nose and I lost it. I told her that we're never coming back and I'm going to call customer service and tell them everything that happened. I'm so hurt that this happened to my puppy. read more

Rude and snippy in the groomers. One of my dogs is a nervous Nellie and they wouldn't take her because she was hyper. A lot of dogs act that way when they are afraid. Her other groomer is packed due to COVID and I had used petsmart in the past. I have 3 dogs and will never set foot in that store again to be met by snotty groomers. If they don't know how to help dogs they should find another line of work. read more

My fiancé and I took our dog to have him groomed here. We've taken him to other PetSmart locations and they were great. The groomer stated that she could not groom him 30 minutes after we dropped him off and while we are at dinner... The appointment was at 5:00 on this Saturday... she initially said it would take 3 hours...Ugh... she probably has plans and wants to go home... It's our Saturday too!!! Never doing business here EVER!!! We are open to other grooming options... This place is horrible!!! read more

I went to PetSmart today (8/6/2020). The information that staff wear masks is FALSE!!!. The assistant manager was not wearing a mask and the only other clerk I saw, who was stocking shelves, was wearing her mask over her mouth only and did not cover her nose. I have been buying all the dog food for my two dogs there since they opened, but I will never go there again. read more

On Wednesday, 5/9/18, at shortly after 9 AM, I presented two dogs for nail grooming at PetSmart Store #0418 in Hickory, North Carolina. Immediately, a groomer approached and what I needed. I stated nail trimming for both dogs and inquired as to bathing for one of the dogs and three others still at home. At this point, I was ignored (left standing at the counter)so that the three groomers could answer the telephone. While waiting, multiple appointments were taken (5 or 6). When I was finally asked about the baths, I was told there were no appointments available this week. When I asked about the appointments taken while I waited, one groomer, apparently the one in charge, responded in a very curt, aggressive manner. I was basically told I did not understand the business. I do not need this. I do not plan on ever returning to PetSmart. My husband and I drove 35 minutes to take my 5lb Yorkie to the Hickory Petsmart for 9am grooming appointment and decided to kill time in the area instead of driving the long way home and back again. Well over 3 hours later we were called to say he was ready to be picked up only to be told that they weren't able to do very much with him so they would only charge us $35 for the appointment instead of the $65 for the full treatment. We were shocked when we saw that he still had matted fur in spots, had not been clipped except for right around the eyes and bottom and he didn't even appear to have been bathed. I called today and asked for the manager who identified herself as Andra Caldwell. She acted angry from the very beginning as I explained the situation to her. She said we would have to bring our receipt back in to get a refund and never once offered any apology, only short snippy answers. At one point she even said "look I don't work in grooming I'm only out in the store so I don't know what happened" and tried to put me on the phone with the groomer. We have been using Petsmart for our grooming for over 15 years and the quality of customer service has taken a nose dive. I will not shop at any Petsmart again as I prefer Chewy prices and customer service anyway. Don't waste your time and money there! read more

Violet is now my go to groomer. She is the first groomer that has been able to tackle my dogs nails. Since he was a stray I don't have history on him to know why he is so scared. She is meticulous and genuinely loves animals and it shows in her work. I would recommend her to everyone. read more

Not pleased with the "wellness plan" it at least the way it is administered here. My biggest complaint is when you walk in for service they seem to struggle to get you seen. It's also amazing to me that they do the comprehensive exam but you are not provided any feedback about what the results where. Only "we'll call you back if we see any concerns read more

well we brought our large pappion in for grooming. They call her a Shetland Sheepdog. Every time we get her groomed there it gets worse. This time they shaved her back side like we requested. Guess what they practically shaved her. They nicked her several times causing a irritation problem. I had to go to the Startown vet which cost another $50 for meds. I will never return to this groomer ever again. Trimming her doesn't mean shave the dog. Goodbye Pet Smart for life. Needless to say the grooming has cost us over $100. read more

Took my little 15 lb Bolognese there yesterday. It was cold and she was matted and they shaved her, so I put a sweater on her as soon as I picked her up. When I got home and took the sweater off I can see that she has OPEN BLEEDING WOUNDS ALL OVER HER BACK AND LEGS! WTF read more

We have had a wonderful experience at the Hickory Petsmart. Everyone is knowledgeable and fair about product recommendations. We have had great success with the training programs (Passed Puppy/Beginner and currently in Intermediate with Lisa). Their food quality is great and satisfies the taste buds of every dog. And their treat variety keeps my puppy stimulated during training. For training ask for Lisa. For product knowledge ask for Chrissy. read more

I was at PetSmart yesterday and I was there to buy some fish supplies and only 1 fish. I had to wait 25 minutes to get help because there was only one guy working and he had a customer that wanted 6 fish from 6 tanks and they had to be a certain fish out of the tanks. All I wanted to purchase was 1 Glow green fish and he made me wait for someone else to come help me. Here is some free advice for management: First, there should always be 2 people in the fish department at the same time. Second, If the person who is bagging fish for customers they should ask the person in the Fish/Fish Accessories for help. To me it seems like very poor management and lack of communication. I was told that the other person helping get fish for customers was on break and I would have to just wait. Well first of all it is the company's fault for not having proper staffing and miscommunication. However after waiting all that time the nice young lady that was running her register came over and got the 1 ten dollar fish that I wanted to purchase otherwise who knows how long I would have had to wait. read more
