Training review for Lori specifically. She's terrible. She spent class #1 (puppy training) starting from scratch with "sit" and I was the only one there so I received the entire onslaught of her 27 years of training wisdom. Well everyone... I taught my dog sit the wrong way at home. I stand wrong. I hold my hands wrong. I use the wrong tone of voice. I use the wrong treats. I give to many treats. I hold the leash wrong. I use the wrong marker, I release my dog from sit incorrectly. I lure my dog to sit wrong. Shes too full of herself with her AKC standards. She says obedience should not be fun. Well it's sure not fun with her as a teacher. I tried to have an open mind and went back for class number 2. (Different day/time with other people attending) she kept trying to stop me from stepping out to calm my puppy as he was barking and being disruptive. She said I can't leave, yet didn't give me workable advice for my dog barking. "You can't leave! He needs to learn to behave" that's when I walked out 15 minutes into class. I wasn't there for strict obedience and she knew that and didn't care. So if you are looking for a drill sergeant she's the one for you. Otherwise stay away. She also talked shit about other clients so I'm sure she will about me as well. Rude, ridged, and not for your average dog owner wanting some fun training and socialization read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star. The way the animals and the fish are treated aren't even humane. Every animal I have bought has died within the first 3 days. It's bad when their own cashier sets and watches the bettas doe because they are kept in plastic containers that bettas aren't meant to be in. Enclosures are small, the small animal pets cant barely move. Staff, has no knowledge about any of the fish or small animals. They need to just stick to selling pet supplies. read more

Niles, ohio location. While we were inside buying new things for our new puppy. While we have two other large dog breeds and one of the workers, lauri, would not stop telling us how we know nothing about our new dog, which we did a lot of research about as we told her, and she kept telling us how we are going to regret everything about it. We've trained multiple dogs and many large breeds. And she wouldn't walk away when we kept explaining how we understand what we're doing. It's very aggravating when someone belittles you while you're confident about your dog. ****I'm editing for this again because the longer I think about this the more frustrated I become. The way she came off about the entire encounter made it seem like she was trying to scare people into taking the puppy class she taught. She kept bringing that up and how we "don't know the breed we bought". We had a small German Shepard. We also have an asaskan malamute who's 3 and a Saint Bernard who's 12. And we've trained German Shepard a before. It seemed that because it was two women with a dog that we had no idea what we were doing. And she made a point, MULTIPLE TIMES, that we have to train him a certain way or he's only just going to attack people and dogs all the time. And that we need to train him so that "when the man of the house dies or isn't home he doesn't attack you and he listens to you". I felt so discriminated against and angered that she had the audacity to tell me that I was wrong and that I would regret turning her down for the class she teaches. She is inciting fear in customers. I am a loyal customer of the Nile's pet smart and have been for years and I am appalled by her conduct. I am surprised that she had a pin that said she's been there for 15 years, because with that conduct and the way she attempts to incite fear in new dog moms she shouldn't have that position. That is no way to ever treat your customers. I've worked in retail for multiple years and I honestly wonder how she hasn't managed to lose her job with that attitude. read more

This store has really gone downhill and I'm not sure if it's covid related or just bad management. The aquarium fish part of the store is what is hurting the most. Half the tanks the pumps aren't running and the water is just still and stagnant and you can tell that the fish don't have any Oxygen or movement in the water and they're just all hovered on the top or half-dead. I understand fish die especially when they're being transported but this is just neglect on the store's part. And when you actually want to buy some fish there's only one person back there doing it and there's like ten of us waiting around and it's a pretty long wait again I don't know if that has to do with covid or not but the actual caring of the fish its definitely neglect on the store and management. They are living creatures and should be treated as such. It's a very sad situation. read more

The staff has no knowledge. They are very unprofessional. The grooming salon manager clearly has never worked with dogs prior to this or at least i would hope not by the way she acts. Annie is her name I believe. I would never take my pets there to be groomed. I would not trust their safety. Mainly from the handling that I have seen when shopping there, it's an accident waiting to happen and that accident is not going to be my dogs life. The store was awesome and had a great staff a couple years ago with great girls in the salon that were knowledgeable and professional but over the last year it's been going down hill drastically every time I visit so much so that I stopped going in and now I shop at pet supplies plus and get my dog groomed privately. read more

I felt I had to write a short review for this place as they were the reason we went to Pet Supplies Plus. To put it simply, the sales people were just disinterested in our business. My wife explained to them what we wanted and was asking what kind of fish we could and couldn't get for the tank or which fish do and don't get along. We didn't get much by way of answers. The sales person just seemed bored and well, disinterested. As far as the store itself, pretty much on par with most pet stores you can think of. I would put in up there with Pet Supplies Plus but the sales people just aren't in it to make a sale. I don't know. We went to Pet Supplies Plus and did our business. read more

I have been taking my dog to Liz at Pet Smart in Niles for a long time. I highly recommend Liz. She is personable, takes great care of my dog and does excellent grooming. I'm sad I cannot give a separate review for the grooming salon because I want to give Pat and Nina 5 glowing stars for all they do for my two most shy girls. My Yorkie Pom Piggy will only allow Pat to groom her and she loves to have a Spa day!!! Pat always makes her look adorable. Nina takes care of our scaredy boxer Gemma! She is so patient with her doing her nails and we so appreciate it. So as far as I am concerned those two groomers get gold stars and I love coming to see them. Now, as for the store staff, it has. Come hit or miss. Yesterday was a true miss. My husband and I ran in to get dog food for our Farm and pick up an order from online. There were two lines open and both took forever. We finally switched from reg 2 to reg 1 because of a refund 2 was doing and finally got waited on. When I went to ask for our order the girl working the register got very huffy and said she'd have to get the iPad to find it. The girl on Reg 2 piped up that she'd take care of her line then help. I was like "no, I've waited in line and don't want to wait longer" (there was nobody behind me) my cashier then whines that someone will have to come do it because "I can't leave the register" she proceeds to call a manager then decided "well there's nobody in line I guess I can help - I hate these things because they take so long to log in" I told her that's not my problem but it was her job. Her manager got there and handled the transaction. It was an employee I recognized and she recognized me - and apologized for her associates behavior. Sadly the harm had already been done and I will do my best to shop elsewhere and just use Pat and Nina from now on. read more

PAT, took the time from day one, to talk with me, make suggestions, pamper, and love my dog as if it were her own. People stop me and ask where I take him to get him groomed all the time. I called this store today asking how much to shave my lab/chow mix. The girl said it would cost $50, $59 or $80. When i asked her which amount she said she didn't know, she might as well have told me a million dollars. I then asked if a bath or brushing was included she said she didn't know. No way would i let these morons touch my dog. Please don't take your pets here and if you do please don't leave your pets alone or out of your sight with these people. read more

I used to love the grooming salon here. Recently with the new management it seems like things have gone down hill. My Boston was always treated amazing and I let the manager do her bath and nails last time. She offered me a free chii package after I told her 3x I didn't want it, and she made me feel like a bad owner for not agreeing. After I came to get my dog, I noticed she was soaking wet and her nails were still bleeding like crazy. She told me it was no "big deal" and gave me a bag of powder. My dogs nail continued to bleed for two hours. No reason my dog wasn't dry and she called me 30 minutes after saying she was done, I got no report on her and the girls have always praised my dog for how she is. Not sure why she wasn't dry. My dog was soaked in the middle of winter and her nails were bleeding so bad when she walked her out of me I watched the blood follow behind her. Never again. Lots of amazing girls lost recently and it's sad. read more

hello. I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at pet smart Scott S. I used to work there back in 2004. I am very experience with aquatics and would of loved to help you. All the fish there are fresh water. gold fish for example are very dirty fish and require a lil more oxygen level. the tags help on the tanks but don't really give all the info. so I can definitely understand your frustration. semi-aggressive fish can be in a tank with other semi aggressive fish. the number of fish you have depends on the size of the tank you are getting. semi aggressive and aggressive fish such as Oscars, African Cichlids and the Balla Shark and even some catfish need their own space. but can get along with other fish of around the same size. community fish get along with other community fish such a platies, danios, ghost shrimp, algae eaters, guppies, neon tetras, swordtails and mollies just to name a few. but watch out they mate like crazy and before you know it your 4-6 fish become double or triple. like I said I would of loved to help you. also I would like to also address Dianna P. I also apologize to you as well. I don't know much about grooming but I do know the groomer should of been more precise with you. depending on what kind of cut(lion cut) or trim or if you just wanted a reg shave, usually a 10 blade. I understand you probably would not of known that and he or she should of been knowledgeable enough to explain that it does not take a whole lot of hair off. she or he should of explain that if the dog is matted it is a different price and if you want the anal glands done and nail trimming as well. they have different packages. I thinks its truly ridiculous that they could not tell you how much it would be. I know it is also based on the size of your dog as well. I am truly sorry that both of you had a bad experience. When we stopped at PetSmart Saturday February 27th at around 6:30pm we went straight to see the cats before we shopped around. What I saw was something you don't expect to see at a pet store. There was a dead cat in the adoption center. I had a manager come over and told him there was a dead cat, he seemed indifferent. I walked away to console my daughter who was devastated. Before we left we went back over to the adoption center to find out there was another cat in the same cage as we saw the dead one, it was in a box inside the cage. He didn't look like he was doing well, I called for a manager again and a lady came over and explained that she did make a call to West Side Cats who were on their way to take the other cat to the emergency vet. According to West Side Cats website they have volunteers who go in the evening from 6-8 at PetSmart, how did they not see this? I checked their website and there is no information about the 2 kitties named Chris and Nina who were 8 months old from the same litter found in Austintown. I will not be shopping at PetSmart again and I question the integrity of WestSide Cats. There is no reason for this to happen!! read more
