Great place! Came in for the first time for a groom for my shih tzu and they got her done in 2 hours or less which was impressive. They were very attentive on the phone when I called and responded quickly to my inquiry about an appointment. My pup can sometimes be difficult (or so I was told before) but they said she was great. **TIP** They're quite busy, so leave a voicemail AND a text message just in case! I was able to get an appointment 5 days ahead. My usual groomers are unable to take the demand for their services, which is a shame. HOWEVER, I'm so glad I found this place! Tina was kind and lovely. For my small maltipoo, it was $60 for grooming which includes wash, cut, and nail trim. Brought her in at 9:30 and she was finished by 12! My pup had immense hair/nail growth during the winter and her hair just kept getting knotted/matted so it was impossible to comb her at this point. Hence her newly shaven body! When I went to pick her up, they left the hair on her ears and tail (which is normal grooming styles for maltipoos) but I asked if they could trim those too. Told me to wait 5 minutes and voila! Hair was short and she looked happy! Will definitely come back again. read more

Tina and her team are the only groomers I trust for my two dogs. I've been taking them there for the past 5 years. I know they're safe and in good hands. They always come back perfectly groomed! One of my dogs is incredibly difficult in terms of getting her nails trimmed. It's taken 3 people at the vet to hold down my 15 lb dog, but Tina is always able to get them trimmed without a problem. An Update!! I ended up taking my sickly baby back to Rub a Dub Dog because it is fairly close to our new home and I did want to give it another try. I must say that they exceeded my expectations. Not only did they give my baby her ever so loved puppy cut to perfection, but ut they also allowed the service to be on the house! I would've never expected that! A neighbor was walking by and I commented that his dog looked recently groomed and really good. He told me about Rub-A-Dub Dog. I called, made an appointment, explained that our dog was a bit hyper and they said, "bring him in". They did a great job, very friendly and our pooch was happy. Side story, we've been banned by two groomers and found 3 (now) that handle our dog without complaint saying he's a "good boy". I took my pup in for his first groom visit. I got the puppy package where only the hair around eyes, paws, and sanitary area is done. I am only giving 3 stars because I am very upset that the groomer cut the hair above my pups eyes too far onto his head, and on top of that, it was unevenly cut. The left side was trimmed all the way down close to the skin, and the right side wasn't. I find this very lazy or not thorough. Whatever you want to call it, you would think that a groomer would notice that she cut only one half of the face. I didn't notice it while checking out. As a new puppy parent, a first groom is exciting and scary. It was my first time leaving him and so when I was there to pick him up, I was just relieved to have him back, therefore didn't notice his cut. He doesn't have the cute teddy bear look anymore. If you can imagine what a person would look like with one eyebrow shaved off, but the puppy version of that, that is how I would describe what my pup looks like. I understand that new puppies may be more difficult to work on than an older dog, however, with extra time on my hands during quarantine, I worked very hard to "train" my pup to prepare him for handling, vibrations and loud sounds. I don't think that my pup was wild or jumpy. The groomer even mentioned how he did great until it came to the blow dryer, which I believe because my pup doesn't like it at home or when wind blows on him when we are walking. Furthermore, since he only received the puppy package because it was his first groom, which is what was recommended, I think that at the very least, a cut around a dog's face should be even and shouldn't have been overlooked. Unfortunately, I do not think we will be returning. read more

I wrote my first reivew 4 years ago. Four years later, they are just as good as they were in 2014. The owner is very respectful and friendly. The groomers are well trained and thorough. The owner takes constructive criticism very well. I've taken my Sheltie to other groomers in the area and, by comparison, Rub a Dub charges a bit more than other places. But given the totality of my experiences, I won't take my Sheltie anywhere else. read more

This place is AMAZING!! They did SUCH a good job on my Australian Shepherd, Cindy. She went in this afternoon with her long for looking incredibly unkempt fur as she hadn't been groomed in two months. They asked me exactly what I wanted done for her and gave me Cindy back looking brand new!!! I could not be happier with how Cindy came out, she looks PERFECT. They were very communicative especially about when she'll be done -- I hate leaving her places and I know she does too, so that was really appreciated. The owner also gave a discount for a scheduling mixup from a few months ago -- seriously that was so sweet and much appreciated. I've taken dogs there over the years to get groomed and Peggy (owner/groomer) couldn't be more professional or sweeter to my "furry kids". The dogs are always happy to enter the premises (i can't say that about other places) and happier to see Peggy (even when not being given treats). The dogs always come out looking and smelling great! The first dog I had taken there was a Bull Mastiff (who has since passed) who was a big butterball baby and HATED tubs. Peggy had this "ramp" that he could walk in and out of the tub with (with coaxing). She was ALWAYS so patient and kind to him. I now take my "Great Pyrenees/English Setter Mix" there. And he is also a big, hairy, baby. I started to get him groomed at Petsmart on Touhy in Skokie (less of wait to get an appt.) and I don't know WHAT happened, but...all of sudden he DOES NOT want to enter the grooming salon there at ALL (he pulls and pulls to get out of there). I WON"T be taking him back there ever again. It's quite the opposite when going to see Peggy at Rub-A-Dub. My ONLY complaint is that Peggy is only open on Tuesday and Thursdays, so you have to make an appointment well in advance. Alas...I guess that's par for the course when you're great at what you do and it shows!! read more

I was going on vacation and I have 2 dogs and both really needed their nails cut. I called super last minute and I explained I was going out of town, but it wasn't the end of the world if they couldn't squeeze us in. They said it was no problem so I headed straight over with my pups. They used the nail grinder (I think it's called dremel? Something like that) and both of my dogs' nails looked awesome! I've been here just three times because I'm a new dog owner. Each time I have them cut his nails, which they do quite well with my squirmy dog. I like the tub set-up and selection of shampoos, conditioners, ear cleaner, brushes, etc. The tub set-up is great. They have steps and a platform at the top, leading to the tub. Since my dog won't hop in a tub, at least he was at a good height for me to lift him in. The staff there are really nice. I had a coupon which had expired a month ago, and they still honored it. A friend recommended this place for my two, large, Bernese Mountain Dogs. Tina, the owner, is really good with dogs and knows how to treat mine. It's almost impossible to bathe them at home because they are so squirrely. She gets them clean (cleaner than I can ever get them), has an amazing treatment that reduces the amount of shedding and even puts free bows in their hair. Best part - she gets them in on short notice because once I decide that they NEED a bath I don't like to wait. So much better to deal with than other groomers. Been coming here for over a year and always satisfied. Recently, she helped us with some personal dog training which she does in the evenings. We had some behavior problems and, amazingly, she "speaks dog". Once she got the dogs in-line she trained us to let us know what we were "telling" the dogs with our actions and how we can communicate more clearly to our pets. Remarkable! read more

I didn't feel comfortable leaving my dogs in this loud, chaotic environment. Their haircuts turned out goofy looking and uneven all over. Their nails were left very sharp and scratchy after the "trim." I would not recommend this groomer in comparison to others that charge the same and do a much better job. read more

I checked yelp for dog groomers near my home, I read the reviews on several, and Rub a dub dub caught my attention with the great reviews. I called on a Saturday morning, and luckily they had an appointment available. I took my two shihtzu dogs Lulu and Libby for grooming. I liked the layout of the place because everything was in plain view and the dogs were visible, in that the dog cages were in the front of the shop. My dogs were a little shy and scared, but Tina made them feel comfortable. When I picked up the dogs, I was amazed as to how great they looked and they smelled nice too! They did a fabulous job! The dogs seemed happy when I picked them up and that made me happy. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend Rub a dub dub. read more
