love this place--took our lab luna here for the 3rd stay--she loved it--the people here are so sweet--we met jane for the first time--she is wonderful--

We love PetSmart grooming! Thank you for helping us make Oxford look great even through his difficult shedding seasons

We brought our dog to the pet hotel and I had to take him to the vet a day or so later because I noticed that his scrotum was red the vet said that they probably didn't clean out or wiped up all the water after cleaning the kennel and he most likely sat in it

What is the point of having hours if you close whenever you "have staff"? Your hours are not honest online.

This was around 9am and we were the only people there other than the staff - which we only saw 2 people. While our dog was getting evaluated and we filled out paperwork, I was observing the dog play area. There were 2 piles of poop in there when we arrived. I don't know how long they'd been there already. But 20 minutes later as we were getting ready to leave, those 2 piles had turned into at least 4 piles (that I could see). Nobody appeared to been observing the dogs let alone cleaning up after them. I asked the person at the front desk (asst. mgr?) about cleanup and he didn't seem at all concerned. He basically said someone comes around once in a while to clean up. Thankfully, my dog is not a poop eater - although I've had dogs in the past that were - and I can understand sometimes it may take a few minutes to get to cleanup. But this was just nasty. I wanted to like this place because our dog loves to play and is very spirited with other dogs. This chain seems to have a philosophy of letting dogs be dogs and regulate their own play unless things get out of hand. I think that's ideal as long as the dogs are screened first and are being monitored so someone can step in quickly if needed. I was just not confident that would happen here. The last straw for me was when my dog passed the evaluation but the staff member talked about sometimes using "corrections" with dogs. I am a believer in force-free training (positive reinforcement), and I understand there might need to be exceptions needed for emergencies when dogs must be separated quickly, but I'm just not ok with strange men giving my 16 pound dog a "correction" of any kind. Google the term if you want to know what it might mean, or better yet ask Hounds Town and make sure you're comfortable with it. They don't have live camera feeds available like some other places, so you are putting your trust in them, and if this was how things when down when they had a first time potential client, I can't imagine how much worse things might be at other times. We have tried 4 local places and still feel I haven't found the ideal doggie day care / boarding place. There have been a couple of acceptable ones, but this one would be a last resort for us.

We were welcomed and shown into a room immediately, and our vet tech was wonderful. Our cat is a big old scaredy cat, so we really appreciated how kind and gentle both the vet tech and Dr. Tate were, and that they were even nice enough to wrap our cat in a blanket they misted in calming pheromones. One reason we left our last vet was because they kept trying to sell us on every test and unnecessary thing our cat didn't actually need. So, I was really grateful Dr. Tate did a great exam, told us possible tests (i.e. blood work options) and then let us make our decision without judgement. We're so grateful we found Dr. Tate!

In the annual check-up she detected a heart murmur and "gravely sounds" in my 6 y/o cat's lungs. She said she didn't think there was a need for additional testing, and told me to keep an eye on his respiration rate - count it when he sleeps and call them if gets fast. I did that, and over the next few months called their office on 2 different occasions to report respiration that was just over the "fast" side. The person that answered the phone took the information and I was told there was not a concern. I brought my boy back for annual exam. The night before he had a bad coughing fit. I was told they did an x-ray and that his heart was enlarged and he was in hear failure. I was there over an hour waiting and knew something was wrong. I was sent to Blue Pearl in Southfield - told they had vet cardiologists there. (NEVER go to Blue Pearl - terrible!) Discovered the next day that Veterinary Cardiology Consultants had an office only a few miles north of Troy Vet Hospital! At Blue Pearl they diagnosed my boy with congestive heart failure / hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This was approx. $3,500 visit - after spending about $700 at Troy Animal Hospital. I followed-up with Vet Cardiologist Consultant's for my cat's care. In the following 11 months I've spent another $2,000 - $3,000 on consultations, echocardiograms, fluid aspiration, monthly medications, supplements, holistic care. My boy was in advanced heart failure and died two days ago. I've learned along the way that in that initial annual check-up at Troy Animal Hospital in November 2017 that the heart murmur and gravely sounds detected in his lungs were early & strong indicators of cardio myopathy developing. I wasn't even offered the option of additional diagnostic testing - I would have done it! Instead told she "didn't think it was necessary at this time." If testing had been done and treatment started then he could have lived a long and healthy life with condition management. Instead, his quality of life deteriorated fast - he died at only 8 y/o - and it cost me approx. $7,000 in that 11 months along with so much stress, sadness and grief. My heart is broken. My boy was one of those special cats - the kind even people who hate cats love. He deserved better. I understand mistakes are made in life but this was inexcusable. I called twice to report fast breathing afterwards and they weren't concerned!! Is this a matter of being too busy to give proper attention? Why not suggest testing to rule out a potentially deadly condition developing? I wish I had never stopped going to my previous vet who specialized in cats. My boy would be alive.

The very first time we brought our dog in, the owner Jim made a point of mentioning "I've had problems with that breed in the past but I'll give her a chance" Our dog is a pit mix, we've had her since she was 10 weeks old. She had stayed at other boarding facilities and has been well socialized, we have never had any issues with boarding or being at dog parks etc. We had our dog stay twice, when picking her up the other staff members always said she did well, never reported any issues to us. When we called to arrange boarding the third time, the owner answered and informed us he would not allow our dog to come back as "she doesn't do well here". No other information was given. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because we really liked the place, the dogs can go outside and the staff is generally kind and does a good job. It is a shame though that the owner is so prejudiced against certain breeds, and I feel that someone who really has that much experience working with dogs (as he claims) would know not to judge a dog based on breed but judge on a case by case basis. And if our dog really did have an issue, why were we not told when it happened? I find it hard to believe our dog randomly had an issue at this boarding facility, but never had any issue before or after at any other boarding. TL;DR: owner is prejudiced against bully breeds, will tell you to your face and then not allow your dog to come back

After the first experience with each of the other boarding facilities, our dog could not get out of the facility fast enough - and most of the time, he would refuse to go back inside the facility and would not let us leave us for the second boarding. We don't have that problem here. I fully trust my dog's intuition, and I fully trust the staff at AAPR-Royal Oak. We board several times a year - sometimes for a weekend, and every now and then for a full week. It doesn't matter how much time has passed in between visits, each time we show up for boarding we are greeted by the same handful of smiling faces, and they are always so excited to see our pup. And more importantly - he's excited to see them too. We only board overnight (with the daytime play of course), so I can't speak to any of the other available services. And our dog does not require any additional special treatment or services, so I can't speak to that either. I do wish that they were a little more consistent with the after boarding report cards that they send out electronically. It's always nice to get a little more detailed feedback about how boarding went. There are a few specific people who will take that extra few minutes to give us a quick recap if they're the ones bringing him out to us at the end of the stay, and for that I am so so grateful. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my dog here, nor would I hesitate to recommend AAPR- Royal Oak to friends and family.
