Pet Smart = NOT very smart: I called and personally talked to the Grooming Dept. to make a grooming appointment for Sadie and stated I would be waiting... for Sadie to have her nails done and a bath. Yes, it will take an hour. When I arrived on time for my appointment, the groomer told me it would be at least 1.5 to 2 hours, I should leave her and come back. I reminded that I called and said I would be ... waiting... for my one hour appointment. Sorry, she said, they were very booked. IF... she said... I wanted my 1 hour appointment I could pay an EXTRA $15, they would do that... but not of Fridays. I left WITH Sadie and said that wasn't going to work. Spoke with the manager on my way out. He apologized but basically said "that is just how their reservation system works." It allows overbooking. He offered to comp me a box of $15 biscuits on my next appointment if I was charged an extra $15. That was nice, but nope. Not going back. read more

have always had a good experience when using petsmart services. we use petsmart exclusively for grooming our two dogs because it is such a good deal and the dogs seem to like it too. the salon can get pretty busy at times but the staff seems to handle it well. everyone is always pleasant and professional. read more

Know your info before you shop here. Some of the staff are rude,they ignore helping ppl and pressure you into buying items you don't need. They get up to 50% commission on a sale keep that in mind when they try to force you to buy a 85 dollar cage you don't need by threatening to refuse you the sale of a hamster because they need proof. There are other petstores and groomers in this area that will NOT treat ppl this way. I think the staff forgets that but, I guess that is isn't a shock the parking lot isn't as full as it once was. They need BETTER staff and people who actually know the right information about the animals. read more

I have had fish for 10 years - almost buzz cut angry girl in fish dept started off being very condescending about tank size even though I currently only have a handful of fish in a 90 gallon tank ... then refused to sell me fish based on the fact that I have one 7 year old goldfish that's thriving in with my other fish stating my tank or too warm for the goldfish and she would only sell me other goldfish .. which makes no sense. Was completely rude and unlike any other experience I've had in the last decade buying fish other places. Now I know why there's only 2 stars - creature comforts for the win, don't waste your time. Took our dog to get groomed at PetsMart in Vestal, NY and this is how we got him back, when I asked for management oh they had already left for the day and no one knew who was overseeing the grooming department or store for that matter. PS AND they fed him and watered him without asking me or informing that they did so on the way home he went 1 AND 2 in my brand new truck ....oh oh and they told me omg he needs obedience class because he just wanted to play with everyone and everything.." oh I'm sorry he's a happy puppy and btw he's in obedience class fyi" so on tomorrow I will be requesting my money back AND requesting a detail on the inside of my CAR. Who thought of the display for Beta fish at this store. Is it in your job description, when there's 3 or more dead, scoop them out & replace them with the ones from the storage container in the back. I guess what I really would like to know is who thought of this display for advertising. Do you use the same system for the guinea pigs, birds, reptiles? The grooming salon doesn't answer their phone, i have been calling for a week! The regular store associates will not schedule an appointment. I tried scheduling online but they have my dog breed listed as a breathing challenged and the system will not let me schedule online. my dog is fine & has no breathing issues. I called the store and asked to speak to a manager to express my concerns as scheduling a grooming appointment should not be this difficult. I was told the manager wasn't there and they would not transfer me to an assistant manager. instead the lady on the phone said she was the shift lead and what did I need very Abrasively. every time I tried to speak she would interrupt me. I asked when the store manager would be back and the response I got was " I don't know , the manager hasn't been here in over a week" . there is no reason to treat me with such disrespect as I was calm, wasn't raising my voice and wasn't yelling. I was trying to have a conversation about my concerns. The shift lead was rude for no reason. I will never take my dog here or shop here. Petsmart needs to start fixing the problems at the vestal store or else this will be the next one to close. read more

At first i would put a 4 star... but it seems to be they changed their grooming people. There was a younger gentleman a year or so a go that was great with my dog. Got her back in the same condition she was before I dropped her off just cleaner. This last time I dropped her off I got a dog that's so far in pain. I have to take her to the vet. This will be the last time I take my dog here. I will go to petco or a private grooming service. Store as a whole is alright bit expensive. But, definitely do not recommend the grooming services. read more

Don't advertise walk-in services if you can't do them. Drove 20 minutes to our local PetSmart for a nail trim on my dog only to be told to come back in 3 hours because the groomer there did not know when anyone else was coming in and she was too busy. I've been using this Petsmart since I moved to the area. Usually VERY helpful & giving good advice. I've spent thousands, between fish tanks, supplies, fish, dog supplies, grooming, etc. My dog loves Nicole & she does a great job. She wasn't available so I booked with Alexa. I thought I booked a 9:30 & I was late due to my job. However, when I arrived Alexis said, "ummmm, your appointment was at 9:15". I said "oh I had 9:30 in my phone" She said in a condescending way, "well your appointment was at 9:15, so we cancelled it". I turned and responded "You can cancel ALL of my appointments, we won't be back". To rub it in, she gave me the ol' "have a good day". I don't appreciate being spoken to like a child. So i went there yesterday and the lady told me to wait 24 hours until the tank filters and then I can put some fish in there but today they told me wait at least five days or seven days but the lady yesterday told me 24 hours which I follow that lady and my fish are thriving right now my three mollies started fighting over the food because whenever fish do that from personal experience they don't get enough food so that was my guess about Petsmart and they're feeding I will be taking my business somewhere else because the two ladies today were rude and I am never going to get fish from there again thank you to the lady yesterday she was outstanding and super kind to us only time I will go to Petsmart to get any supplies for my fish is going to be food and water conditioner and antibacterial. Been taking my dog there for over 6 yrs and have not really had any major issues. Until today! Had an appt for 11:30 made 5 days ago and called at 10 to see if it could be moved up as I had free time. They said sure and I arrived at 10:30 to the Vestal, NY location. Told me the usual 3 hrs or call you sooner and I returned at 2pm ( 3.5hrs) only to see my dog still being groomed and told to " come back in 15 min". Unbelievable! Got to register, paid and asked for a Manager and was told by the cashier that she was 1of 4. Explained the situation and her response was that the groomer was new. No apology for the bad communication and wait nor concern for me and my dog being longtime customers. Nothing but oh well! Whatever happened to good customer service? PetSmart lost us today for good. The store itself is clean and fairly easy to navigate with the hanging signs for each department. The cashiers were nice and greeted me when I came in, even when it was fairly busy. I was coming in a out for a few things so I really only noticed the fish & reptile areas. - The fish section of the store seemed to be taken care of pretty well. The tanks were fairly clean and all the fish looked to be in good health. No noticeable fungus or infections on any that I saw. There was an associate bagging fish for a customer and seemed to have a good knowledge base on the fish that the store carried. As for the products, they seemed to have the same brands most of the other stores do with relatively the same price. - The reptile section also seemed to be in good order. As a reptile owner, I was pleasantly surprised to find that all the reptiles had the correct temperature and humidity levels. The animals were all out and about (an employee was feeding them) and they all looked to be very healthy. I talked to the employee who was feeding them and she seemed to know her stuff, I even asked her a few questions (that I already knew the answers to) and was happy to know that she was giving me the correct information. They carried the usual Zoo-Med and Exo-Terra (as well as a few other brands). read more

Disorganized and Rude I had been taking my dog to one particular groomer at PetSmart for over 5 years (Kali) who did a great job and with whom my dog was comfortable. Previously, another PetSmart groomer had cut my dog while grooming and they didn't even tell me until I noticed the injury and some dried blood when I picked him up--but Kali was very gentle with him so we continued. I scheduled a recent appointment with Kali 3 weeks out--but, she apparently left PetSmart abruptly 2 days ago. There was an apparent VM left for me, but when I arrived with my dog for his appointment--not only was Kali not there--but the other groomer I was assigned also was not there-- and no one could tell me when/if she might arrive. After waiting nearly 20 minutes-- I left and PetSmart rudely sent me an email that THEY canceled the appointment. I LEFT! They are expensive and disorganized-- I am going elsewhere. read more

Large, clean store. They have groomers and a vet on site. Prices seem pretty standard with other PetSmarts. I saw one of the managers walking the store and when he saw my dad standing there alone, approached and asked if he needed any help. We found our items just fine. The dog section basically takes up the right side of the store. They sell all sorts of dog food too, from your run-of-the-mill grocery store brands like Iams all the way up to premium food like Eukanuba and Blue Buffalo. The cashier was also fairly friend and helpful. This location is in the Target plaza in Vestal. Nice neighborhood and parking was not a problem. read more

I am 18 years old and sometimes i like to buy fish. At petsmart, no one ever even looks in my direction when i am obviously waiting to be waited on. I have never been taken seriously at this petsmart and now that i am an adult and am still not being taken seriously, i think i will take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately, it's impossible to put a less than one star rating on this site. I went to Petsmart in Vestal today to buy a green anole as a tank companion for my current anole. When I went to the store, they had a variety of anoles, with at least 10 different lizards, squished into a small 5 gallon tank. I picked out a small green anole that looked about the size of my own. The woman who was helping me had NO experience in getting creatures out of the tanks and broke the tail of the anole as she was taking it out. The poor thing ended up with a cracked tail that was still hanging on to it's body by a thread. It was bleeding all over the paper towel in the carrier she had given me. I then noticed that above where the tail had broken was a circular white mark that looked like a fungal infection. I told this to the woman and she called over her manager, who, upon finding out that I wasn't about to buy a sick lizard, told the woman to put it back in the tank with all of the others. THAT IS NOT OKAY. It is NEVER okay to put a sick animal back into an enclosure with other animals, particularly not such a small enclosure with multiple types of anoles that were fighting with one another over crickets. Needless to say Petsmart will no longer be getting my business and I will be calling the head manager of the store tomorrow. read more

8/7/11 (sunday) Ok. This review does not so much represent Petsmart but rather 2 of their emplyees. I called Sunday morning at 9 am to inquire whether or not they carried male dog belly bands. (a diaper for male dogs to keep them from marking with urine). A female answered the phone and I presented to her the question. She seemed kind of short, but did say she would go look and see if they had them. I had to quickly add that I was looking for size small before she rushed me off the phone to go check. I was on hold until the phone "rang back" to the store and a man answered and said hello. I explained briefly that I was on hold and what I was looking for...he replied extremely irritibly, "what are you looking for?". I told him male dog bellybands, and he once again, very irritatingly answered me, "you mean dog diapers? We are not even opened yet!". I replied that, "well, you answered the phone..." and he sarcasticly said, "Yeah, cause it rang!". Well, that about says it all...I did not know that they were not open until ten...and besides, if they answered then that usually means in most businesses that the answering machines or whatever they use are off and they are at least open for calls. How rude...I understand that these guys make probaby minimum wage, but seriously, there is no excuse for that kind of rude customer service.! read more
