I then received a call that the bloodwork "may have been mixed up" so bring my one cat back in for a free retest. This test indicated a low thyroid level and was significantly different from the first test with an elevated level. Instead of a vet looking at the 2 bloodtests and seeing they were so different and most likely not my cats bloodwork . I'm contacted by the vet techs and told to continue on the thyroid meds. One vet tech was not aware there was a blood test mix up and one told me when I asked why it seemed like the 2nd test was so different that it was not my cats bloodwork answered me by saying" That's a good question". Then I wonder was my other senior cat bloodtest mixed up as they were done at the same time? Meanwhile I spent $100 on thyroid meds and $520.38 on bloodwork and I still dont know if my cat has hyperthyroidism. because the new bloodwork does not show it. I was offered after complaining another free retest after taking my cats off the meds but honestly I have a very stressed old cat who has already been in for 3 blood tests and a vets office that I'm dealing with techs not the vet. I plan on going elsewhere where I can deal with a vet that can call me, and actually take the time to look at the bloodwork

Not only was my older cat misdiagnosed (after bloodwork and xrays and idk what, I got a nearly $900 bill) and I was told that my cat seemed to have a mass and that if it was a mass it was probably cancer. I was advised to have an ultrasound and had to wait a week to find out if the cat would die. At the appointed time I presented, and there was a weird vibe in there as there was some sort of emergency. They should have just cancelled appts. I was told I would have to wait aobut 30 minutes. No big deal. I understood there was an animal back there who needed their help. So I wait in the cat section which is kind of a joke as the cat and dog area are separated by a half wall. There were two dogs that were completely out of control, barking and growling with owners not making the least effort to calm them or take them outside so my cat didn't have to be even more stressed. I couldn't put my little guy, who I thought was dying, through 30 minutes of that he was cowering and shaking and was already stressed. So I waited outside where they had benches for that purpose and it was a gorgeous day. The first dog was taken into a room so I went back inside. Next dog comes in and he is even worse and owner could not have been less engaged and on her phone. No attempt to comfort or help her stressed animal. Now if your kid was having a tantrum, you'd take them away from people and help the calm down. So as I exited, I said to her in a low, calm voice "you really should be the one going outside. Not me." I reach the 2nd door of the vestibule and this woman runs out and starts SCREAMING at me. She was on my heels. I turned around and she was inches from my face pointing her findger in my face. Told her to get that finger out of my face and back off. She then bent over to put her face near the carrier and scream "I hope you die." That pushed me over the edge and I did call her a pejorative term. She began screeming "hit me! hit me!" Despite wanting to, I did not because I am an adult. Then two receptionists came out and yelled at me! Saying I should have just kept walking out. So I walked out and waited on the bench. She spoke with the woman inside for a few minutes and then she left with her dog. I was taken to a room with my cat. I was shaking and discussed what had happened with that woman with the tech who was very kind. She said the ultrasound would take 90 minutes and they were dealing with an emergency, so he probably would not be done until 3. I hated leaving him there but went to run some errands (only noon and I live 25 minutes away.) Not 5 minutes later I was called and told that I had not signed the consent form. I replied I had not been asked to and gave verbal consent over the phone. I will acknowledge that I was edgy when she told me I was consenting to hospitalization which has a fee. I replied that he was waiting as they were behind and that it felt like I was being robbed blind having spent $900 there the week before. An hour later I received a call from the reception supervisor that I was being released from the practice due to the altercation with another customer. I was astounded. I attempted to explain that I was accosted. I was told it was not my place to say anything. Then she said i was also rude to the person who called me and I never gave consent. I asked if I could speak to one of the doctors who owned the clinica and she said no. Then she told me they would not treat my cat as a result and that I should come get him. I was flabbergasted. I returned to get my cat and spoke to the supervisor who I had never seen before and would not let me speak to anyone else. I was not yelling. I was actually crying and begging her to let my cat have the ultrasound and not take it out on a animal. Nope. I was handed a list of 4 practice that did the ultrasound and was sent with my cat on my way. They have signs all over the place saying if you use abusive language, inappropriately touch staff or make sexual comments you would be removed from the practice. I didn't do any of those things. I saw one of the doctors in the lot and tried to talk to him. JHe had taken care of my cat for year. He would not even look at me and said he would have to find out what was going on later when he was out of surgery, I found Capital District Veternarian Referal Hosptial in Latham. They were great. The vet said there was no mass and she believed that it was a layer of fat pressing on a large ligament. She also diagnosed him with stage 2 kidney disease, which the inexperienced vet said was early kidney disease. Somehow he just developed it over night as he was there and got blood work twice in the the previous month. So he was misdiagnosed and I and my family spent a week mouring that our cat was dying.

Yes, this is the ugly building on a crappy part of Central, but the inside and staff makes it warm and inviting inside. It looks like they may have remodeled the waiting room and exam rooms recently. Everything is bright and very clean. The first time I visited and was put in an exam room, I took the time to look around to see how clean it was, and it seemed pretty spotless, especially for somewhere that messy animals come to everyday. The staff is very friendly and they go out of their way to make your dog feel like family here. The staff always remembers Leah, and also asks me about my Mom's dog as well. I think this place may be pricey compared to others, but I can't say for sure since this is my first dog. My dogs neuter was somewhere in the $600 with added testing and microchip insertion. It is $15 for nail trimming here, the flea and tick is $75 for a 6 pack - just for some comparison. I would not use this place for boarding because they do not have someone there all the time tending to the dogs, which makes me feel uncomfortable. All in all, I would recommend this place to someone, and I will continue to take my dog here until I hear a recommendation for somewhere better.

The exterior may seem run down and the inside may not be the best but the staff and team here have hearts of gold and love and care for every animal walking through the door! I arrived 30 minutes before they even opened because my dog was experiencing severe anal bleeding -- an emergency by any reasonable standard. There were no other cars or clients waiting, and yet I was told they wouldn't see her without an appointment and the soonest available time was over two hours later. It's absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating to know that a veterinary office, where compassion and urgency should come first, refused to even evaluate a bleeding dog simply because of scheduling convenience. There was no effort to triage, no concern, no basic decency to at least check if she was in critical condition. If this is how they treat established patients in distress, I can only imagine what kind of care (or lack thereof) others might receive. Do better, River Road Animal Hospital -- pets deserve compassion, not cold policy.
