I was passing through the area and decided that I wanted to find a place for lunch that was not…read moretypical fast food - so I decided this would be a good place to try. We ordered two meals - a pulled pork plate with hush puppies, onion rings, and okra, as well as a pulled chicken sandwich with a side of fries. Overall the food was very good, not as much of a smoke ring on the meat as you might see at many BBQ places, but still flavorful. The chicken was a bit dry, but fortunately there's plenty of BBQ sauce on the table. Overall it's a really nice place with solid food and quick service. Clearly this place is popular with the locals. The inside was nice and clean. I would certainly consider stopping here again when I'm in the area.

Anyone who has to make a trip along I-85 through north central NC and south central VA is familiar…read morewith the town of South Hill. It's basically a mid-way point between Durham and Richmond or Virginia Beach, and is right up near the state line, so it kind of makes a natural stopping point. You also know that the options for actually stopping and eating there, are pretty limited outside of fast food. So I was encouraged to find a roadside BBQ shack with more than 4 stars on Yelp about 5 miles off the highway. The place looks the part, an old gas station converted into a BBQ hideaway. Upon pulling in and parking, my hopes were high. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The service at the counter was friendly and helpful, definitely a high point. I ordered a brisket sandwich combo, for which I chose collard greens as the side (on recommendation), and a tea. It also came with a condiment cup of coleslaw for the sandwich, on request. All told, about 15 bucks. A few minutes later my order was up, and I had a seat on one of the counter stools. Unwrapping the sandwich, I was already a bit unenthused. Standard economy hamburger bun, bit of meat poking out one side. Removing the top bun revealed one solitary slice of brisket about a half inch thick, cut in half, a small portion based on all my life BBQ experiences. Pulling off a piece, the meat had a very pot-roast like texture, not characteristic of recently smoked brisket. In all fairness, unless you are rapidly selling brisket, it is a difficult meat to maintain quality on. I dumped my coleslaw ontop and sauced it up, which helped, I liked the sauce... but the sandwich was a definite disappointment. The collard greens, though cooked properly, were very salty. I was hoping for a little bit of sweetness or vinegar, but just salt. I added some of their vinegar style sauce hoping to help it, but just didn't make much dent. Maybe ordering brisket was the wrong thing to do and pork is more their speed, or a plate is the better route, with a different side for sure... but I don't see myself trying again. The search for decent stop-over food continues.

The do have a fast food type service, nothing is made to order and the also have a drive thru. Good home style ambiance I ordered a bbq ribs with Mac and cheese and potato salad which was the special of the day. Chicken tenders with fries. Fried chicken with fries. Everything come with hush puppies and we also had a order or some type of corn sticks. The bbq ribs in my opinion weren't good at all and they were cold. Mac and cheese was box Mac and súper under seasoned. Potato salad and fries were ok. Corn sticks were dry. Hush puppies were weirdly shape , but really yummy! Fried chicken and tenders were absolutely delicious!!! Super seasoned and left me wanting to go back for more. One of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had! Come for the fried chicken and you won't be disappointed! I would definitely be back if I'm in the area for that chicken!

The outdoor seating has outdoor fans and table fans for bugs and the inside bathrooms are super clean and sleek with mints and toothpicks! As I said very thoughtful! Came by on a Thursday a little after opening and waited maybe like 30 min or so to order; pacing was pretty fast turn around for how many people were already here. Customer service is great and there are workers that make sure that you have all you need. They were also great handling a dairy allergy for my kids! So service and ambiance 5/5 The food! We got a bit of everything. Moist Brisket: 4/5 it was very tender for the most part and was great flavor, a little tough in some places but really good overall! Cheddar Jalapeno sausage: 3.5/5 about average but slightly better. Could use more kick (but my wife thought it was spicy) The casing was a little tough in my opinion, but the overall flavor was pretty good. Beef cheek (this was a special for Thursday): 5/5 SUPER TENDER and great flavors. It was similar to a burnt end texture on the outside but the inside was amazing tender. Was great! The ribs! 5/5 This was honestly the star of the show. It had a great bark crust flavor and amazingly tender, wow, it was amazing and I don't say that lightly. Would 100% order again. The pulled pork:4/5 how do you say this is an average pulled pork feel like it's kinda hard to mess this one up, but it was pretty good. A standard pulled pork! As for the sides, they were okay if I'm honest. The baked beans were pretty good. I got it only because someone recommended it, but I normally am not a baked beans kind of guy. It was a little bit on the sweeter end but not bad at all. The mac & cheese was an average mac & cheese. Nothing super amazing or great but good enough I guess. My kids didn't devour it as they would have in other places so I guess that goes to show that it was just average. Overall, I would come here for the meats because that is what they're known for! Worth the weight and would totally come again

Very attractive overall. So I selected my toppings and paid $30 for what I thought was going to be a fantastic pizza. Instead, what I got was something akin to a frozen Tino's pizza from Food Lion, with fake cheese and barely any toppings. Each topping was about $3 extra. My total, starting at a $19 base pizza, was $29 plus tax. As I said, this pizza wasn't anywhere close to what was pictured, and the flavor was very bland due to the scarcity of the toppings I ordered. Technically, they were there, just not enough to give the thing any flavor in any way, shape, or form. I was very disappointed that I strayed from George's of Oxford for Pizza. I always get their family-size pizza for about the same price; it's always packed with toppings, and although the crust isn't that tall and bubbly, they make up for it with a shit ton of toppings and flavor. Wouldn't recommend; next time, I know just to count on this place for liquid refreshments only. Lesson learned.

I had no clue what to expect being a first time patron. My spouse had been here several times and was always raving about how good it was. The stars aligned and we finally made it during a meal time. We came in and ordered and paid at the counter, found our seats, and then waited while our food was being prepared. There's something to see on every wall, and you can tell they know what they're doing with all of the trophies on display that they've won throughout the years. The indoor seating isn't too ample, so don't plan a family reunion, but it can hold a few families at dinner time. There's not a bad meat on the menu. If you're a vegetarian, this is not your new favorite spot. We got their brisket, chicken leg, and smoked turkey. The sauces at the table were tasty, and everyone found a favorite. We were thankful for the ample supply of paper towels, because our littles chowed down and needed to be wiped clean. This Redneck BBQ Lab knows what they're doing. On this particular night, they had too many leftover chicken halves towards the end of the evening, and were selling them half off, so we ate our food, and then got chicken to go for a future meal. Stop in and try it sometime.
