The staff was friendly and provided positive interactions and follow-up. Smiths offers a variety of food options such as brisket, ribs, greens, and smoothies. They offer daily specials and their menu can change daily or when items sell out for the day. I arrived approximately 30 mins after they opened and was disappointed to learn that the smoothie I wanted to purchase was already sold out for the day. Heard about this place via Instagram and decided to check it out. It's on Main Street in Wake Forest in a small shopping center. There's a walk up counter where you order your food. You can eat in or take out. The people are friendly and the food is good. It's a bit pricey, but as you can see the portions are ample. I didn't like the potato salad because I'm not a fan of chunky or dill but enjoyed everything else. The Mac and cheese is creamy and a tad sweet, but not off putting. There was a live saxophonist playing as well, which made things a bit busy/noisy, but I think perhaps that's a weekend thing. We were at the "Dorothea Dix Park" for Falling Into Fall Fest and we saw the giant smokers and had to check it out. We were not disappointed by the quality of meat and the taste. The "Pork belly burnt ends" was so tender and sweet, crunchy on the outside and the inside was melt in your mouth. The Mac N Cheese is not for people on a diet. It was amazing ! We needed a quick lunch in Wake Forest, NC and saw this BBQ restaurant on Yelp. They advertised Texas Style BBQ in the front window. Since my husband is from Texas and is very particular about his brisket, we entered with no expectations. I ordered a Brisket Cubang sandwich and collard greens. He had a brisket plate and mac 'n cheese. The Cubang sandwich was wonderful! Lots of brisket, onions, garlic Parmesan sauce and Swiss cheese, toasted in a panini press. The meat was tender and flavorful. Collards were flavored just right and tender. The brisket plate was perfect! Juicy, very tender, and smoky flavored. My Texan could not say enough good things about it! The mac & cheese was excellent. The food was served on a tray covered with butcher paper with plenty of napkins. This restaurant is definitely worth going out of your way to experience. I have to say a word about the staff, too. They are obviously proud of their food and wanted us to enjoy our meal. I had the chicken and my daughter had the burnt ends. She couldn't stop eating. She was just going to taste her food & ended up eating the meal. She said the greens were seasoned & so good. BUT THE MAC N CHEESE!!!! Deep sigh, fake faint, it had a sweet potato glaze mixture baked on top or something. FREAKING AMAZING!!! Every single thing was DELICIOUS!!! I'm just upset that I didn't get an extra side of Mac n Cheese. They are closed Sunday thru Tuesday. Now, the customer service was so delightful. It took me a minute to decide. The young lady at the register was really sweet and patient. And Ty was awesome. Ty told me I'd be back and yep, she was absolutely correct. I'm going back Wednesday. As were were leaving Raleigh, we wanted to get some good BBQ on the way home. The family who owns this little place was super nice. They took great care of us. A lot of locals obviously love this place. We bought a bottle of sauce to take home. The food was okay...we ordered the brisket because that seems like the thing to do. I liked the meat, nicely cooked and flavorful. Juicy, not dry. We had the mac and cheese...it was very sweet. It looked cheesy, but not a very cheesy flavor. We noticed a lot of people ordering the sweet potato, so we got one of those...it was not bad, but again, did not taste particularly like sweet potato...so the actual food was just okay, maybe 3 stars. I enjoyed the Strawberry Refresher smoothie so well that I ordered another one on my way out! It was freshly sweet tasting without additional juices or sweetener. The little nibbles of almonds and dates made it perfect. My husband ordered the barbecue sandwich which is grilled with their Mac and cheese on the inside. I said I would just take a taste but it was so good I kept going back for little bites! The owner had a moment to tell us his story about developing his recipes and journey to opening the restaurant, so that gave the service experience that extra special touch! Why does everything have to be sweet? Sweet BBQ sauce, sweet baked beans, and even sweet mac and cheese... The brisket itself had good flavor but the sweet BBQ sauce killed it for me. The mac and cheese is even slightly sweet with an odd cinnamon flavor (why?) Very limited side options (baked beans, green beans, and mac and cheese)... What if you don't eat beans? Blueberry cornbread muffins is more like a muffin mix with not much cornbread in it... I had high hopes but I don't think I'll return... In response to the owner's comments: It's not that I'm "used" to anything... I just don't understand why everything has to be so sweet.. It's great that your style is your style. That's fine. I just wish I knew ahead of time that those particular things were sweet so I wouldn't have come... So my review is to serve as a notification to others.... The mac and cheese being sweet though... If you haven't been to Smith's yet - where have you been wasting your time? You simply cannot make a bad decision with anything on their menu. The food has amazing flavor and is all perfectly cooked. Don't miss the dessert smoothie pairings either - perfectly indulgent and well balanced. The food is not cheap, but the portions are just right and the food quality is high - totally worth it. You won't find nicer people than the owners, too! They hire great staff who keep the place clean and are always welcoming and helpful. WOW! I went when they opened on a Thursday. The special on Thursdays is brisket or pulled pork tacos ( I got the brisket). I also got the drink special which was hot chocolate chai. Drink- very good and there were toppings available like marshmallows and whipped cream! Tacos- Probably some of the best I've had! They were an experience. I wanted to like this place. The owners were very nice and the place is clean. It just wasn't good or worth the price. We ordered 2 servings of brisket and it was kind of dry and kind of tough and didn't pass the pull test. We ordered a serving of pulled pork which was VERY dry and over cooked and we couldn't eat most of it. It came with 3 blueberry cornbread muffins which I was hoping would be good but they tasted like a ready mix box of Blueberry pancakes in muffin shape lacking real berries. Lastly (and this is just my families opinion) but probably the worst mac and cheese we have ever had. It was kind of sweet and cinnamon tasting. We expect our mac and cheese with bbq to be savory. Overall we would not be back. Maybe the smoothies are good but we passed, or the burnt ends but they were out of those. read more

This was my first time here today. I have been meaning to come in and I'm very happy I finally did. I ordered online. The process was very easy and I was able to select my pick-up time. When I arrived, I was greeted by the owner, and she was very nice. While she went to get my order, I was greeted by the other owner, to make sure I was being helped. They were very friendly and personable. My food was ready when I came in for my pick-up time. The restaurant looked very clean as well. After my short drive home, the food was hot and it smelt amazing. I got an order of brisket, pork belly burnt ends, and some mac and cheese. The food tasted VERY good. The brisket was juicy and had a beautiful pink smoke ring. The rub on the brisket was noticeable and added great flavor. The pork belly was tender and easy to eat. The Smitty sauce was an excellent compliment to the meat and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was so cheesy and there was a beautiful cheese pull on every bite. I walk in for the third time. I watch the young AA female owner server an AA customer look at me (WM veteran) and wave for the WF new lady to take my order. When I am done and step a side the owner a BF comes back and servers the next BF customer. Now what does that look like and what should I think? It's purely coincidental? Or she didn't feel like serving this old white male vet? I hope not since the store's emphasis is on tradition, family and being owned by.my fellow veterans. That sure looked funny to me. I expect this sort of issue when my wife AA female and myself frequent some white owned establishments in the South. I never thought the same inappropriate thing could happen to me also. Today, I wandered down to Smith's and ordered the burnt ends after briefly perusing the menu. I was thoroughly pleased, so much so that the fat didn't even register with my "lean girl" brain! I ... We REALLY wanted to like this place for lunch. First thing, the menu...we both had sticker shock. $26.50 for a Brisket plate incl 2 sides. I'm thinking, oh it must be ALOT of food. Everything else also seemed overpriced IMHO. You order at the counter, then they deliver to your table. Food came pretty quickly. The "plate" was a piece of butcher paper lining a serving tray. One modest slice of brisket. Sides were served in old fashion cardboard containers (looks like a boat), used for fries. Brisket was just ok. Green beans were a salt bomb, mac & cheese was pretty good (hence 2 stars). P.S. In NC, we are used to eating coleslaw with bbq, especially pulled pork. They do not offer coleslaw as a side. We do not mind spending money for good food & service. Simply put, the premium prices cant be justified for so so food (quality, quantity, & presentation), little to no service (counter order taker + food delivered to table), and to say the least no ambiance (casual place next to gas station). Due to the limited hours which I applaud them for their work/family balance, it taken us some time to get here for a meal. Now I wish we have it a higher priority. Hands down the best bbq we've had since relocating to wake forest. The pulled pork and brisket were perfectly prepared with a nice blend of rub seasoning and hearty smokiness. The beans, mac&cheese, and okra sides were all excellent. The beans have a perfect balance of sweet and spice that I can't put NY finger on but gives me a sense of honey used for some of the sweet component. The Mac and cheese has a nice cheesiness, baked in crispiness on top and I'm guessing just a smidge of nutmeg. One day I'll have to ask if they are willing to share a bit of info. I was so excited to try this place as it just kept popping up on my instagram page and so I went and I ordered the brisket plate(Mac and greens), the brisket burger, the strawberry shortcake smoothie and the tropical lemonade.... Unfortunately I was disappointed with how expensive those items were in addition to the overall taste the Mac and cheese is just a no very dry and had a sweetness, the brisket was tough and salty and the lemonade tasted like a mix to me....
