Huancaina with churrasco. Purple corn drink.
    Nancy M.

We arrived @8 PM and were told the large tables were all reserved and directed to a small table by the wall. There was one table that had 3 people at it. The rest were empty. The waiter, however, was very polite and explained all the dishes to us. We both ordered the huancaina pasta. Mine was with shrimp...large and plentiful. My husband had his with churrasco mixed in. We both enjoyed our meals. The drink made with purple corn and spices was good, too. We figured everyone was anxious to go home as it was past 9 and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We joked with each other that we probably wouldn't be offered dessert. However, the waiter came to our table and cheerfully asked if we wanted dessert. We shared the guava custard. It was very good and the topping made with red wine and whipped into a kind of airy meringue was really interesting. The staff was very sweet and all wished us a good evening as we left. The tables that were reserved were never filled. Not sure what the purpose of that was but since the waiter was so pleasant and the food was very good we walked away happy.

    Fish tacos!! Best we've had.

This is a smaller, more intimate restaurant, so definitely make reservations ahead of time because seating is limited. But from the second you walk in to the moment you leave, the service is absolutely incredible. The staff makes the entire experience feel so warm and welcoming that you genuinely don't want the night to end. Huge shoutout to the chef because every single dish was executed flawlessly. You can tell that every detail on each plate was intentional and thoughtfully done. The standout dishes for me were the elote ribs, which were unreal, the grilled octopus cooked perfectly tender, and the ceviche con leche de tigre, which was bright, fresh, and packed with flavor. But the real star of the night was the whole branzino absolutely phenomenal. And for dessert? Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the options. We ordered one of each for the table and genuinely could not pick a favorite because every single one was that good. Hands down one of the best dining experiences we had in Puerto Rico.

And most important of all, the four-legged Front of the House Manager aka Rufus, was a delight! The Branzino and Picanha were to DIE FOR!! Restaurants barely serve picanha, so this was a wonderful treat and the steak was so well cooked and had the perfect crust. The branzino was cooked perfectly. This is a meal my boyfriend and I walked away from saying that we'd remember for the rest of our lives. We don't plan to stay in Luquillo again, but we will definitely take the drive over to have another meal at Sama when we visit the island in the future. Thank you Sama!!

The passion fruit mojito was so refreshing and generously sized. My husband and I ordered the tuna tartare and the seafood mariscos--both dishes were generous portions and absolutely delicious. Eduardo, our waiter, was very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed talking with him about the local area. On our way out, we were greeted by Ferdinand, who helped us cross the road. He also had a lot of knowledge about the area. If you stop by this spot, make sure you have a chat with these friendly staff members--they are a wealth of information.

The host sat the table of five and then came back to us. There was some back and forth on where we made our reservation. We originally thought it was OpenTable but it was actually Resy. The host confirmed the reservation and I saw it on her tablet screen. I also showed her the confirmation email we had. Despite this, she told us we would need to wait 30 minutes for a table. No apology or acknowledgement that this was an inconvenience. This was both surprising and upsetting, given that we had a confirmed reservation. The host revised her estimate to say it might be 15-30 minutes. Unfortunately, the behavior of both the host and the server she pulled in to assist her was unprofessional and inhospitable. They were condescending in their explanation, stating that we had to wait due to "previous reservations" and suggesting that we should be happy to wait. This was especially upsetting since a large party without a reservation had already been seated ahead of us and no matter how much we tried to explain our frustration, the staff was not interested in hearing us out. I fully understand that mistakes happen, but I found the staff's dismissive and rude behavior to be unacceptable.
