I don't know why, but California rest areas are the dirtiest. I'm not talking about outside, on the outside. It is always taken care of. But the restrooms are the dirtiest. No one is taking care of them. As long as I remember myself traveling, Californias rest area bathrooms are the worse.

July 18, 2026…read more OVERVIEW; Although I'm a huge Love's fan, basically I'm praising the Tulare location over the one near Bakersfield, due to following: PROS: The Tulare parking lot is much bigger as compared to the Bakersfield location. So if you want to park your car, walk your dog, or just rest in the parking lot for awhile, this is where you want to stop. Not as busy as other locations. (Good for the customer, but maybe not so good for the proprietor.) Easy on-off access to the Hwy. 99, Northbound or Southbound. Lots of bathroom stalls. Like all Love's locations, this place is stocked with whatever you need. CONCLUSION: If you're making a run on Hwy. 99 between Sacramento & Bakersfield, and you have the choice between stopping at either Tulare or Bakersfield, take Tulare ...

Love that this Pilot has a special pump for Moterhome or RVs just pull thru. We stopped here twice…read morefirst time the restrooms where decent we picked up Taco Bell the gentleman was nice (little heavy man) I like how they make your food right in front of you. However, the second time passing thru we grabbed some Taco Bell but this time the lady at the reg. was changing the reg tape seemed to be in a hurry a young man helped prepare the food she had taken the potatoes behind the food line which i believe to heat them in the microwave they where so hot I couldn't hold the bowl let alone eat them, waste of money. We all know what happens to microwave cheese-(gross). The restrooms where awful they stunk like pee. The floors were very dirty you can defiantly tell they hadn't been mopped in a while. Parking lot was clean, the store was clean and stocked.

I have used other road side showers along I-5 (Joe's Travel Center for example) and that is the place to go. They are far apart in distance so hopefully I find something in between. To be blunt this is a last resort option. You better have your own soap, shampoo and towels to bring inside. Water temperature warm enough. I would never return in the current condition.

I stopped at the Lost Hills Travel Center on my way to San Diego to get gas and use the ladies room…read moreand take a little break. This location is mostly a truck stop location. There's a Arco/AMPM and Dairy Queen. The Bathrooms are clean for a gas station and the staff is friendly and helpful too. The gas prices are also better than the other surrounding gas stations in this area. Parking is ample if you're stopping to order some food get travel information. Etc... There are well over 20+ gas pumps, so even though it's busy the wait for a pump is minimal. I can't speak on how good the Dairy Queen is as it wasn't opening time yet. It is really convenient if you're hungry. Overall, if I'm traveling down I-5 and have to make a pit stop Lost Hills will definitely be one on my list of Truck/Rest stops.
