My experience with Dr. Quilici was extremely disappointing and disconcerting. After waiting a month for an appointment to see Dr. Quilici, in addition to waiting an additional hour in his waiting room, I was given 1 minute (and I do mean 1 minute) to finally meet the Doctor. At this initial meeting, the Doctor introduced himself, glanced at the tumor on my right elbow,and ordered me to come back and have the tumor removed In-House. His nurse practitioner then instructed me to to schedule the appointment with his office. In an effort to schedule this in house procedure with his office, and after numerous phone calls over the next week, I was then instructed by his scheduling department that my "Surgery" would be done at St. Joseph hospital.. Surgery? How and when did this simple in- house procedure that Dr. Quilici ordered during our initial visit.. move to a hospital, and for what reason? I inquired by phone and (in writing )if the Doctor would honor his original order, only to be told that the Doctor would NOT!. Are Doctor's now allowed to do a bait and switch? Why are they not honoring their original orders without any explanation or confirmation and in the end seemingly be bilking you and the medical system in excess for a procedure that is customarily done in house. ** I have since discovered that my late father and a few of my close friends have had this same problem and every single tumor was removed in house.. How sad to encounter a Doctor so removed from being honest, forthright and operating with a modicum of integrity. read more

Just a few days ago, I had have emergency gallbladder surgery, I was placed in the hands of Dr. Tovar. I was a bit nervous not knowing who he is or the skill level. I was EXTREMELY satisfied with entire process. Step-by-step with reason, logic and the heightist level of compassion he and his support staff explained everything to me. My Husband was a patient of Dr. Quilici for 1.5 years or so for lap band adjustments. The whole time they were billing his insurance for the adjustments as SURGERY, so they didn't get paid! Then this office had the audacity to bill my Husband for $3,000 for THEIR mistake!!! If they want to get paid, they will have to rebill his insurance PR0PERLY! WhenI first went to the Doctor, it was about three years ago. The office was packed and looked and felt good and comforting. The customer service lately has been AWEFUL! I don't know if he is grown his practice so much that his staff can't keep up, or what is going on! I called to get in today for a LAPBAND UN-FILL because I haven't eaten in 4 days and they treated me like an annoyance. She told me no one was working on Monday, which I know is B*S. I finally made them call the wellness center, where I usually go to get adjustments and low and behold I got an appointment. The sad thing is, the doctor is really nice, but he is protected like the President and that isn't cool when it is your health we are talking about. First visit to this doctor and the girl who sits at the front desk was very rude. She didn't understand that I had someone with me because I have a power of attorney. She didn't allow her to stay. She said someone called me and told me that only the patient was allowed in. I explained that no one gave me that information. She insisted they did although she wasn't the one to call. She could have just said that she was sorry no one gave me that info but that they only allow the patient in. Clearly she doesn't understand what it means to have a power of attorney. The appointment was almost pointless because my power of attorney is the one who makes the decisions and has all of my medical information and background information. Hope his surgical skills are much better than the experience I had with him and his office. I literally, no joke sat in the waiting room for 2 1/2 hours before I was called to see the Dr. I had a 2:00pm appointment and wasn't seen until 4:30pm. Everyone in the waiting was asking each other how long they had been waiting and what time their appointments were. It was ridiculous. When I finally saw the Dr. he said he didn't think I had a hernia and referred me back to my regular Dr. he didn't even do a thorough exam. Just a quick look and a touch. Dr. wad with me formless than 5 minutes. I went back to my regular Dr. and he had the same conclusion he originally had and referred me to another surgeon. My general MD referred me to this office. The receptionist is rude. She told me I didn't qualify for surgery. Put me on hold and said her coordinator said I didn't qualify. Asked me if I had confirmed with my insurance if I was covered. I told her I had not as I don't know what to ask. Since the receptionist is practicing medicine, she didn't book an appointment. If this doctor does surgery like he hires receptionists and coordinators I should count my blessing I never book a consultation. read more

Had my gastric bypass in 2009, dr. Q is the best & i highly recommend him, it's not a magic wand, after the surgery u have to maintain at a healthy weight all by urself. In the past 10 yrs ive had excess skin removed from middle & arms, there went another 5 lbs.! For me, in order to maintain, my calorie intake has to be 1000 calories or less. Its just a reality & what i mean when i say the work begins after u reach ur all time low & try to stay there. Forever. read more

This doctor is straight to the point and extremely professional. I couldnt have asked for a better experience. Another doctor placed my lap band 10 years ago and it broke about 5 years later. I never bothered getting it fixed. When my husband and I decided it was time, I heard wonderful things about this doctor. We worked together for 2-3 months determining what the best course of action was for me and I ultimately decided to have my band repaired. The surgical staff couldnt stop singing his praises while prepping me for surgery. One nurse told me he had just performed electoral surgery on her husband and would be performing surgery on her next month. If you're looking for a doctor to hold your hand, keep looking. Dr. Quilici is NOT the doctor for you. Truthfully that is not his job. He had one job and he did it with perfection. The respect his staff has for him is INCREDIBLE. You can tell he runs that office like a tight ship. They took care of all of my referrals, insurance payments, scheduling, and leave of absence paperwork. read more

While Dr. Quilici is nothing short of brilliant, I have to say his staff members leave much to be desired. I have never felt so uncomfortable with an office. Just to call (and call and call as they take FOREVER and a day to answer unless you get real lucky) is an ongoing issue. Also, they do not get back to you in a timely manner, if at all..no joke...They make you feel as if you are begging them. Please take my word, if you want a charming and brilliant surgeon, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Philippe Quilici; however to get to him is so much work, so much struggle, so much discomfort, it may not be worth it..oh yeah - the other doctor (Doctor Tovar) in the office, I had "the pleasure" of speaking with him on the phone as he was the one 'on call'. I had just had surgery two days prior and I was in excruciating pain. He was UNfriendly, UNHELPFUL, downright rude...only one encounter (thank goodness) and this was back in 2017; I remember how rude he was to me like it was yesterday. Dr. Quilici removed my gallbladder a week ago yesterday. My case was a bit more challenging than most - I spent a good part of two weeks in the hospital prior to the surgery getting stents placed in my bile ducts and then having to let my pancrease calm down a bit before surgery could be performed. Between my two hospital visits, I had a day "off" and stopped by Dr. Quilici's office to arrange for the surgery later that week. I was scared, in SO MUCH PAIN, and was pretty much at my lowest point the day I walked into their office. That said, the office staff could NOT have been kinder to me. They helped me to expedite my paperwork, and within an hour I was back across the street, safely tucked away in a hospital room, awaiting the surgery a couple of days later. Dr. Quilici is a quiet and refined man who EVERYONE in the hospital spoke so highly of. That gave me a lot of confidence going in! Nurses, PAs...so many had common stories to share, "Dr. Quilici removed my gallbladder..." "Dr. Quilici removed my husband's gallbladder..." "I'd only choose Dr. Quilci!" So I knew I was in good hands. I'm still in a little discomfort, but that's to be expected, I guess, after almost a month of hell. But hopefully I'm on the mend! I have a recheck with Dr. Quilici in a couple of weeks. If I have anything more to add, I will add it then. I was very sick with cough, abdominal & chest pain, vomit, and breathing problem. I went to St. Joseph ER, they diagnosed me with gallbladder and other health problems. I truly don't understand the bad reviews. I met Dr. Quilici in 2006 and now, 7 years later, I am still singing his praises. The man is a Godsend. I have had 5 different surgery's with him and would let him do the 6th on the floor of his office if I needed to , I trust him with MY LIFE. The doctor and his staff do not care about their patients; they see patients as dollar bills. From the initial contact to the post-op, it has been a bad experience. With my insurance and medical group, he was the only contracted (I did express my concern with my PCP, but she said he is the only one base on my insurance). He does overbook patients, always expect a 3-5 hour wait. They should provide people with a window when they should be seen; for example, anytime between 1pm to 3pm. The "appointments" are a joke. Now that I have introduced myself, let me tell you about my experience and impressions of Dr. Quilici and his staff. Dr. Quilici recently performed a Gastric Sleeve procedure for me. Right from orientation to post surgery care it is clear that they have nailed it. The staff are extremely polite and pleasant, and will try to make sure you are well cared for in every respect. I found Dr. Quilici a very pleasant and friendly person, obviously I was not expecting or hoping that he would hold my hand and sing kumbaya. I am very pleased (surprisingly) with the whole process and experience, so am giving the good doctor and his crew five stars. The very few times I've met the doctor he's been ok, as far as the actual surgery, I'm alive and well so I assume he did great. The nurse practitioner I've seen numerous times and she is great. THE WAIT TIMES ARE ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! I wait AT LEAST 1 hour every single visit. I had to wait over 3 hours for a post op check!!! Getting a call back is difficult as well. I had Bariatric surgery with Dr. Quilici. Worse Dr. ever along side Dr. Tovar. They let me bleed in the hospital to the point of passing out and being as white as the sheets. The blood would just POUR out from my side. The nurse constantly called the Dr. to advise of the critical situation but neither Dr would take action. All we were told was that everything is fine and it was normal. Finally, after my family stepped in and threaten them to file a lawsuit I was wheeled in to OR STAT. I barely survived after receiving 5 pints of blood. What would have happened if my family was not with me that afternoon I wonder... When I was in recovery Dr. Quilici said "the reason I was bleeding was because one of his surgical instruments had caught inside on tissue accidentally. But you are fine now. I gave you 5 pints of blood. Wow!!!!!!! No apology what so ever. I almost died and he didn't have the heart to apologize. They are all very sweet in the open for your business, but they cover themselves well of all malpractices. Document, document, document. read more

As a new patient, I'm impressed with the services and the care so far. I do have to say that I had one unfortunate experience where the receptionist held on to my license and insurance card and forgot to give it back. After a 3 hour appointment I also forgot to ask for it and remembered two days later as I was trying to board a plane. 72 hours after my appointment, I called the office inquiring about my ID And insurance and they stated that they had it and were "planning" on calling me. This is terrible service from their office staff and had I not called I'm unsure when they were planning on calling me! They offered to mail my ID and card back but said no to priority mail. So remember to always ask for your ID back if you plan on going there, otherwise you will be on your own! read more

I am a patient of Dr. Quilici. I had Gastric By-Pass Roux-en-Y surgery in February of 2010. I have lost approximately 140 pounds, with no severe Post Operative side effects of any kind. My surgery went great, and everything has been fantastic, including the post op care I've received. If you want someone to hold your hand and baby you, he may not be the doctor for you, but if you want one of the best surgeons in the country for weight loss, he's the guy. Yes, he's got a super busy practice, you may wait, yes, his office staff may not be the nicest to you everytime you show up. Personally, I don't really care -I'm healthy and happier than I've been in 15 years, so judge for yourself. If you pick the best procedure for you, do what the doctors tell you and the classes teach you, you will be fine. Lap Band surgeries require maintainance fills for the rest of your life, whereas the Roux-En-Y surgery is over and done once you heal, and take care of your self properly afterwards. read more

Just spent the last year working with Dr. Quilici's and his staff to prepare for surgery that I had on 1/15/15. It's the best decision I've ever made. Their office was very helpful in getting me prepared and ready for the procedure. The follow up has been excellent. He's an incredible surgeon. Does he have the kind of bed side manner as my regular physician? No. But that is not an issue to me. I just felt absolutely confident that he would do the very best by me, and he did. My incisions were tiny, which made me very happy, as they will heal nicely. I was out of the hospital after one night. I have had a smooth recovery and I attribute everything, from the success of the surgery, to the preparation I had to go through to get ready for this very big life change. I believe people come form all over the world to have surgery and/or have botched surgeries repaired. I would highly recommend Dr. Quilici and the staff at the Bariatric Wellness Center without hesitation. P.S. I've NEVER had surgery in my life, so I was NERVOUS, especially since I was a virgin to anesthesia! And it just went better than I ever could have imagined. I was in good hands. read more

Although the Doctor may be very well regarded in his profession, and I actually have no complaints in that regard, what I do have a complaint about is his total lack of respect for patients time. I had to see him multiple times over the course of 4 years, and NOT ONCE, did I ever see him at my designated appointment time. I've often waited in the waiting room for up to an hour with no explanation. And then often another 30 minutes in the exam room. I understand that there are times when emergencies take precedent, I understand that some patients require extra time, and I take that all into consideration, However, when it is EVERY APPOINTMENT it says to me that there is no respect for my time. I've asked him now to forward all my records, test results and such to my GP and we will find another doctor read more

Horrible front end staff, extremely rude. Almost impossible to get a call back in a timely manner. The phones are often forwarded during the day to an answering service. I have gotten calls from staff members that have been totally contradictory to what the other staff members have previously told me and this has become costly. I have been told that they don't schedule labs or tests X rays etc but also won't give you orders in hands... Took 3 months to get test done because of this and I was treated as an annoyance. and never received a call back regarding results. And then there is the 600. Fee they now have for admin or whatever work, but if I am doing all of the work why am I paying someone at the other end of the phone with a bad attitude!? If you ask doctor more than 2 questions he becomes annoyed. Maybe once upon a time this was a great place but it seems like they are now going for QUANTITY rather than QUALITY! Please do your homework and see other doctors and dont solely be impressed by the fancy certificates and magazine covers on the wall! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Quilici for many years. He has performed surgery on me at least 3 times and the outcome has always been very positive. Because of an extensive family history of breast cancer, I am examined by him twice annually as I know he would detect any cancer before it would be picked up in a mammogram. He is consistently rated as one of the top surgeons in the US, and I would not trust my health or the health of my family in the hands of any other surgeon.
