To the people complaining about the prices; this is a small business that doesn't have corporate sponsorship or the ability to buy big box store quantities resulting in slightly higher prices, but very much improved quality. To the people complaining about the service; when I was there shopping there were only two people working, which as an adult who works in retail customer service understands, just because it's not busy inside, it doesn't mean the worker's are not busy. I highly recommend Black Horse Farm for great plants, delicious baked goods, and friendly local service. I even want to mention that when it comes to customer service, one of the employees overheard me talking about Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, and when I mentioned they didn't have any, they went to the back and got one for me that was still cooling; that's customer service. So, if you are someone who appreciates the nuance of shopping local, I can not recommend Black Horse Farm enough, but if you're a whiny adult who needs their hand held at all times while shopping, and gets offended with someone quickly answering a question while continuing to do their work (again, small staff but still lots of work to do), perhaps you should go to a corporate big box store. Me, I know where I'm going, and it's to Black Horse Farm!

Over the course of this project (and through 2023) we also tasked Pondside to advise and follow through on design, landscaping, and hardscaping (large deck, bluestone terrace, plantings, fencing, etc) our property, which the Pondside team completed without unnecessary follow up and seamlessly worked with our building contractors. You get what you pay for.... Jake and the Pondside team are exceptional, and we are lucky to have found a a trusted contractor (for years to come) who is responsive and consistently delivers above expectations without the BS.

The trees came with a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, two of them died within that warranty period in 2025. I contacted the nursery numerous times and spoke with Heather, who manages the business. I was repeatedly assured that the issue would be addressed and taken care of, but no resolution was ever provided. After following up again in 2026, I was surprised to be told that the trees had supposedly been planted by "someone else," despite my understanding that the purchase and planting had been arranged through Jake's Pondside Nursery. I gave the business many opportunities to honor their warranty and resolve the situation, but after repeated calls and promises, nothing was done. Based on my experience, I found their service disappointing, their prices high, and their customer support after the sale unacceptable. I would strongly caution others to get all warranty promises in writing and be careful before making a large purchase here.

My parents have never experienced anything like this before and trusted this guy so to them, paying cash and no receipt wasn't raising red flags. He collected the money and said he'd be there later in the week. He never showed to even start the project. After multiple call and texts, my parents finally got a hold of him. He said he had gotten pushed back from the rain and was busy. Again said he'd be there later in the week and again proceeded to not show up. My parents again sent many many text messages and called and left messages. This guy full on took advantage of my parents and stole $1300 from them. I did report him to the BBB and I truly hope he loses his business so he can't do this to anyone else! ​​
