Even though most of us have lived in Philly for over 20 years, we saw the city through a completely new lens and learned so much along the way. The staff was incredible -- they struck the perfect balance between sharing interesting history and fun facts while also keeping us safe and comfortable on the ride. Our guide, Drew, was knowledgeable and engaging, and our sweep, Ron, made sure no one was left behind and kept the vibe fun the whole time. The bikes themselves were comfortable and easy to ride, and the communication throughout the tour made everything flow smoothly. Whether you're a visitor or a lifelong Philadelphian, I can't recommend Philly Bike Tours enough. Super fun way to see the city! Our tour guide was great and the stops were interesting. The trip took a little over 3 hours and was just under 10 miles. Bikes provided were nice and they even give you a reusable water bottle which was really thoughtful. Easy-moderate ride with only a couple smallish hills. Would definitely recommend! read more

One of the best, most comprehensive tours I've ever been on. Our tour guide was Joe. He gave us a really interesting view of the city from the perspective of art (he himself is an artist). I greatly appreciated his takes on classic art like the stonework on City Hall, pop art like the Rocky Statue and the various murals around the city, and less conventional art like the mosaics you will find in Philadelphia. Along with this, he gave a really good overview of the history of Philadelphia, and showed us places you wouldn't ordinarily see. As far as the bike riding goes, it is a leisurely ride. Doesn't require a lot of fitness to do this tour. There's only a couple of hills and they're not too bad. However, I would recommend that you're confident on a bike, because the Classic Tour takes you right down Arch Street in Center City. We had one person on our tour that clearly wasn't very confident on the bike. They were shaky and scared to go very fast, and kept falling way behind the group. The only reason this gets 4* instead of 5* is the tour guide did not stick with the schedule. He got pretty long-winded during some of the stops, and the tour ended a full hour after it was scheduled. That is literally my only knock on the whole thing. Outstanding tour, otherwise. read more

Booked this tour from Germany and have just done it. Awesome. Great 3.5hrs, roughly11 miles, seen all the relevant highlight and got a good view of the layout to do deep dives on foot afterwards. Guide (Matt) was very knowledgeable and fun to be around. He adapted the tour and we also dropped by Reading Terminal Market for breakfast. They suggested to move the tour to early morning which was spot on given the heat later (it's all ok while you're rolling but when you stop ...). read more

I contacted Philly Bike tour on our recent visit to the city. It is off season, but they agreed to create a custom tour for us. Great communication from the owner about what we wanted to see and their weather policy (as snow was predicted). Rebecca did a fantastic job of letting us customize the tour. She had great suggestions for spots to stop along the way (so I could visit some fantastic places I haven't been to as well as a few tourist spots for my friends that hadn't visited Philly before). She accommodated our riders (from less experienced to experienced) and made sure we were safe the few times we rode through traffic). She also knew the area well and gave us some history about the city. I would highly recommend and we will be back again (maybe this time for the bike and beer tour)! My husband, son and I did the Classic City Bike Tour last week when we went on a last minute trip to Philadelphia. Jo(rdanna) was our tour guide and Matt was the sweeper. They were both excellent spokespeople for Philadelphia. The pace of the tour was nice and leisurley and I found Philly to be a very bike friendly city. Even when we had to "claim the road" (Jo taught us this phrase and we find ourselves using it all the time now), drivers were very polite in letting us in. My 15 year old son said it was the highlight of his trip, it even beat out the Phillies game that we went to! We felt safe the whole time and learned a lot of little nuggets about the city. We LOVE doing bike tours on our first day in a city, and the Classic Bike Tour did not disappoint. My husband and I took the tour on Sunday July 7 on a record hot day. I was a bit worried about the heat but it turned out to be fine because there were shady routes and the pace was perfect. The guide, Joe, was phenomenal, with an amazing knowledge of history. There were 4 other people taking the tour, and the young man acting as "sweeper" did a great job making sure we could all cross streets safely. Our guided bike tour through Philadelphia with the Philly Bike Tour Co. was one of the best, if not the best tour we have ever been on. It was safe, educational, and really, really fun. Out tour guide, Joe, had an encyclopedic knowledge of Philly history and Philly neighborhoods, and he was able to share this knowledge in an interesting and easily consumable manner. (It did not hurt that he is an awesome guy with a great sense of humor and humanity.) In addition, he structured the ride so that it was not physically taxing, and yet we somehow covered a huge chunk of the City. Some of the highlights were the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Pump House area, the Schuylkill River Bike Trail, Rittenhouse Square, Penn Landing, Logan Square, and Independence Hall. To this day, my wife and I agree that if we get to Philly again, we would do this tour all over just because it was so much fun. (It is worth noting that we did a walking tour of the City the prior day, and at no point did we feel that the dour was too repetitive to what we had learned about the City the day before. If you have any interest in the City of Brotherly Love, do not leave Philly without availing yourself of this tour!!!! read more

We enjoyed this tour very much. We got every bit of the 3 hour tour we reserved. First off, the service was excellent. Our guide was very friendly, and helpful. He made sure we all had water, properly fitted helmets, and we were all happy with our bikes before we took off. During the tour, our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. He made sure he shared with us as much education as he could, and he gave us plenty of time to take pictures and quickly explore areas we stopped at. He was very kind. Also, during the rides, while in the City, he was extremely cautious with traffic, made sure no one was left behind, and we were always safe on the road. Even after the tour, he offered recommendations on where to get lunch, and gave us a free water bottle. Not much else you could want on a tour. I have done the bus tours and enjoyed them very much. But this - having the opportunity to stop at such great locations and get such interesting and sometimes entertaining background was great. On this tour you go around 8 miles from the Art Museum area all around Fairmount Park to Center City and back up the Parkway. We saw works from the 1800s all the way to present time. Jo was a great tour guide, extremely knowledgeable and able to answer any and all random questions that my sister and I could think of to ask. Having lived in this city for a while I was surprised to realize how little I knew about the sculptures I've seen and even more so, how many sculptures I didn't even know existed. If I had to pick my top three favorite pieces from the tour I'd have to say the first would be Stone Age in America by John J. Boyle (1887). It's a monument in the truest sense of the word, full of allegorical imagery as well as a clear artist intention. It's also beautifully crafted. The next would have to be the 1964 Monument to Six Million Jewish Martyrs by Nathan Rapoport. This is one I never even knew existed, hidden in the middle of bustling Center City it depicts a mass of tangled limbs and figures in the cubist semi-abstract style. My final favorite is a close call between Roxy Paine's Symbiosis and Jordan Griska's Grumman Greenhouse. I think Paine's Symbiosis wins, but only because once you find out this sculpture is made of pulled steel you'll be floored. It depicts two trees holding each other up.
