I absolutely loved this park as a kid. I used to play on the playgrounds here, and I used to launch…read moremodel rockets in the field. I love the fact that the restrooms use hand dryers instead of paper towels considering the fact that this is a park. I just wish all those trees weren't cut down to build a bigger parking lot, because before they were, the playground was much more shady.

This is a great place in which to get some fresh air and exercise. There is a paved path that…read moreencircles the main area in the front of the park; a small playground; and in the rear, "off the beaten path" trails, if you will. Deer, rabbits and a variety of birds are frequently present. What I really like about the park is when the sunlight hits the trees just so, it's really beautiful, and, the multiple little hills make for a good leg workout. The main path is only about a mile and a quarter around, so a couple of goes and you've done a few miles.

What a cute little place!…read more This past weekend they had their first Easter Food Truck Festival, and I do not think that they anticipated the crowd that they received!!! Not only could the parking lot not handle the cars, but the rest of the area couldn't handle the crowds lol! This is a historic farm, that was taken over by the city/county, and turned into a historic site/public mixed use property. They have a very nice jungle gym where kids can play on! Sadly my kid is still a little too young for that... So they have a parking lot, which they used for the food trucks, so everyone had to park on the grass, and they ran out of space lol! The food trucks were also way too close together, you didn't know what line you were on half the time lol! They ran a super cute Easter Egg hunt for the kids, and it was 20 seconds long lol! They definitely didn't expect these crowds! All in all a very very cute little park, its just not large enough to handle the crowds they had...

With well over 275 acres of nature, Benjamin Rush State Park is nestled just off of The Roosevelt…read more Blvd, but you would never know it once inside the park. It is quiet, peaceful and the perfect place to escape without driving out of the city. It is the Northeast's hidden gem. With plenty of room to run, walk or bike Ben Rush is a welcome escape from the hustle and noise of the city. Trails for all, paved and unpaved (mostly handicapped accessible but not all) All trails interconnect, so you can explore in short loops or wander the whole 3.1 mile loop. Part of the trail even meets up with Poquessing Creek park for those seeking a longer escape from reality. One of the most interesting parts of this park is the Community Gardens. This area has GROWN (pun intended) over the years since we first discovered the park. A nominal fee will get you a small plot to grow your garden in full sun. You will find more that birds in the sky over the park. With NE Airport nearby, its quite common to see planes flying low over the park. Additionally at the far end of the park is a radio control airplane field where you can watch hobbyist maneuver the skies. While there are no playground equipment, Ben Rush has a lot to offer and with a Septa stop not that far away it is easily accessible to all.

One main loop trail that is an easy hike through the woods and along the creek. My brother and I would spend hours there when we were young exploring the woods and wandering up the old railroad bridge. I come back often to remember those days, while I don't traverse up to the bridge a quiet walk along the creek is more my speed nowadays. A perfect place for contemplation and nature, a local gem. Everyone we encountered was friendly although there were not many people. There were a few benches along the way, but I could see how there could be a need for more benches if more people were present. We were also surprised that we did not encounter many bugs. We did use bug spray just in case! The parking lot was easy to find and there was plenty of space. We plan to return again for a family walk.

His mausoleum is in Laurel Hill Cemetery, so although originally from North Carolina, his true impact was on the cultural life of our city. Fairly small, it feels considerably larger due to its connection to Pennypack Park covering a large area in Northeast Philadelphia to the border with Montco. The creek by the same name flows through both parks, tying them together geologically. The watercourse meanders through Lorimer where it has cut a deep ravine over the millennia. There are multiple scenic overlooks worth exploring, even in winter when the absence of foliage allows you to see through the trees to the actual contours of the steep rocky hills across the creek. If power walking or family bike riding is your jam, Pennypack Trail runs along the northern boundary of the park and beyond for several miles, and it is flat, wide and dirt/gravel packed for smooth ambulation or cross country biking, allowing excellent views of the topography and creek vale. Plenty of parking in a big lot across the road from the main entrance.

Easy to walk trails that run alongside the water and wind through the woods you don't have to wander long before the noise of the city is replaced by the sound of the breeze, ripping through the trees and the water rushing downstream. It is my quiet reminder that a little peace and stillness is easily found in our own backyard.
