    August veggies
    Julia T.

I participated in Philly Foodworks CSA back in the day when they just started and you had to front the cash for the fruits and veggies at the beginning of the season and then you got what you got throughout the summer and fall. After a several year hiatus, it's great to see how far they've come. They have a ton of convenient pick up locations throughout the city and the ability to customize your contents each week and skip weeks when you don't want it or will be out of town is a huge benefit. Each week year round I do the milk share, egg share, breeds share, and yogurt share, and most weeks I also do the veggie and/or customizable fruit boxes. You can see in advance what kind of veggies, fruits, bread, and yogurt you're getting and either keep it or cancel it for the week. As long as your total order meets the minimum (I believe it's $28) they'll fulfill it. The food is priced a bit higher than what you'd get at a traditional grocery store, but I'd rather get my bread from a local baker, my eggs/milk/yogurt from a local dairy, and my produce from local farms/orchards. Not to mention I can place my order online and pick it up a few blocks from my house and avoiding having to shop in the Acme is worth the money in the aggravation it saves me!

I love these guys. They support local farmers and local small food businesses. Every week I love scrolling through the seasonal vegetables and fruits. Many of which are not available at any markets. I've tried so many new varieties of greens, mushrooms and other vegetables. The cheese and bakery selection is amazing.

Is any of the produce organic?

Yes. All of the produce is organic.

Do you deliver to Delaware County.? I live in Drexel Hill

Yes, they do deliver to Delaware County. I live in Yeadon and get a delivery from them every two weeks.

What are the exact locations of philly foodworks? I am planning to go but can't find an address

Hi, we do not allow people to purchase items at our warehouse. We are an online market and you can place an order and pick-up at one of our community pick-up locations, or have your order delivered to your home.…

The place is popular, for very good reason. The nursery for garden plants and shrubs (with a speciality in native species) is also a great resource, particularly with Amanda's helpful advice. The little tomatoes are the best thing I've had here. I don't know what's different about them but they almost have a slight sweetness. But really I've never gotten anything bad here. The Bread loafs they have are great. The pizza dough is too. You just need to use it and not let it explode in the fridge. I did that. More than once. I'm an idiot. Everyone that works the stand is super nice and helpful. They are always down to make suggestions on how to use what you buy. Now my favorite part is the coffee. They rotate their small coffee companies. Not sure if it's on purpose but I love it. It's a great way to sample local coffee shops. Sometimes it's out front with a truck and sometimes it's out back with a tent. In the back there is a small area you can sit and hang. We can't get enough of this place AND YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.

You get to feel good about helping struggling farmers, you get farm-fresh food that is even better for you than Whole Foods and you can pick up your order at one of the closest drop-off locations near you. Prices are what you'd expect - this isn't a bargain. But their selection floored me. Herbs (parsley, basil, etc.) Raspberry cheesecake Fresh yogurt Milk Eggs Foccacia All different types of breads Lavender bath beads Body lotion Chocolates sausage lamb and the list goes on. it's more than just food. And I bought some chocolates and bath products for a gift, and was worried thinking they were going to be some handmade thing in a paper bag or something. These farms are professional and what they sell is their life and business. The chocolates came in a beautiful wooden box with a ribbon, a professionally printed color legend and story. You need to try this at least once!!

Thankfully, along comes the Philadelphia Winter Harvest, which as far as I can find, is the most all encompassing, truly locally grown option for fresh produce and meat (and as Caitlin C. and Jennifer F. noted, a whole lot more). Doing the buying club system also made me budget and take stock of exactly what I was getting for my money (which, with the economy so 'eh' is an added extra feel good). I've never done the CSA thing before so remembering what I've ordered and remembering to pick things up is not yet second nature, but it's fun and I'm having a great time being a "joiner" thus far.

It seems you are allowed to park in the same parking lot as well. I did not bother paying for parking, as I didn't think the PPA will be coming around here and I was not expecting to stay long. It took me 15 minutes to check out all the vendors and I even left with a few things. There were two stalls selling a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. I bought 6 peaches for $5 and I've eaten two of them already. Rowhouse Spirits was also there! I decided to taste the gin and the Akvavit (distilled with anchovies and citrus), which I thought I would like. It was an acquired taste, but I am willing to give it another try next time. The gin was a top quality gin. Best gin I've ever had and went down so smoothly, I had to get a bottle. East Falls Farmers Market's Facebook page is also active and contains lots of useful details in regards to their vendors. Even though it is a very small Farmers Market, I would definitely come back again. https://www.facebook.com/eastfallsfarmersmarket/
