A Philly classic that seems to truly bring the community together. This late-night ice cream and soft serve shop was super quick and an easy way to get a small sweet treat. The line moved quick despite it being out the door and the staff were all very friendly and patient. Also, big plus-- they have a restroom! We got the Dankaroo soft serve (vanilla and cinnamon swirl dunked in cookies and cream coating). The coating was very sweet, but the soft serve itself was not too sweet and a very nice texture. The texture was a bit more icy than traditional soft serve (which I prefer). The shop is very casual and does not offer any seating that I saw. I have nothing negative to say about the service. The waitress behind the counter answered my questions and had a friendly tone. This is a buyer beware and maybe a note to the owner... the cup is too small for soft serve! You probably benefit more from getting a cone just because it has somewhere to go quicker! So many fun flavors at 1-900-Ice Cream! Both hard and soft serve options looked incredible. When we arrived on Saturday evening, there was a long line outside. It moved quickly, though, the inside of the shop is quite small. There's a sign on the door that says maximum 5 people inside, but there were more people inside than that. It made for a crowded experience. The employees were professional despite the crowd. It's convenient that there's a restroom available for customer use. I ordered a scoop of Lemon Law ice cream on a waffle cone. It was like eating a slice of lemon cheesecake. Thick pieces of lemon shortbread in every bite. The waffle cone was crunchy and fresh. 1-900-Ice Cream was so good that I went 2 times in one week. I always heard the hype about this place and decided to take a mid-day trip to avoid the long line that's usually formed. They have a limit of 5 people that can enter at a time. I sampled a couple flavors and ended up landing on Superior Strawberry the first time. Loaded with strawberry, chunks, jam. Came back a couple days later to get Ugandan Vanilla which was super rich with deep vanilla flavor. Went on a Wednesday and they had just released their new soft serve flavor. This is my husband and my favorite soft serve and ice cream place! Having been to both locations, here and fishtown... we did notice the portions at rittenhouse are a little smaller, but still satisfying! The workers are always kind as well! They tend to carry 8 flavors of ice cream! And they seem to have vanilla and chocolate soft serve available every week, with two new soft serve flavors every Tuesday! After a filling dinner in the area, I was craving ice cream. I did a quick Yelp search and 1-900-Ice Cream was nearby and looked amazing. Little did I know this place is a local staple! Is soft serve a Philly thing? Either way, I'm in. They even have unique soft serve flavors like banana and pistachio I've never seen elsewhere. I ordered the chocolate and vanilla twist in a cup with rainbow sprinkles and my boyfriend got the vanilla soft serve dipped in a strawberry shell on a cake cone. Both of us looooved this ice cream. I would totally come back to try the chocolate shell ice cream and other soft serve flavors. They can't do any shell on the twist flavor, as a heads up, so pick your vices I guess. They also have regular ice cream if that's your thing. Service was really quick despite the long line. Was a little sad they didn't have the soft serve sundae at this location but my cone was absolutely delicious if not a little simple I got strawberry soft serve with Oreo dip. So creamy and such a fresh flavor, not artificial at all, and the dip had such a nice little crunch. I also tasted the banana pudding hard scoop flavor which was delicious! I always look for special soft serve. I got the Ferrero Rocher: it really tasted like Ferrero Rocher candy. The dipping had hazelnut crunch so good. I also tried their lemon curd with blueberry: very refreshing and not too sour or tart. All of the sherbets are awesome because it's made fresh from the fruit. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Don't hesitate to sample the scoop. The line can be long if m summer and it starts from the bottom of the ramp. You're not allowed to stand on the ramp anymore. With a variety of rotating flavors there's always something new to try.... but be warned, getting the new flavor comes at a cost of waiting in a line that usually goes around the block and a high price tag. I'd say it's worth it when you see a flavor combo that really excites you (they post frequent updates on their Instagram) but isn't a spot I'd consistently go, especially with a Van Lewen just a block or so over. It's best known for its dipped soft serve cones. --- I stopped by on a beautiful spring weekend day and the line was snaking around the full block. I find that almost no matter what time or day I go, unless it's the middle of the coldest day of winter, there's always a line. Today the line took around 30 minutes to get my ice cream. Their ice cream flavors rotate and I found that their scoops are very sweet (though less sweet than other nearby options). Their soft serve flavors also rotate along with their dip flavors. My most recent trip I got a vanilla cone with a cookie butter dip. Although I can say that the ice cream was good, it almost immediately had a "leak" and melted all over my hand. I've been here ~ 5 times and every time I question my life choices as I leave with sticky hands, stained shoes, and am disappointed I only managed to eat half an ice cream after waiting almost 30 minutes to get it. I think part of the issue is that since there's always a line, the inside of the shop is pretty warm from the door opening and closing so much (even though the AC is going). The inside of the shop accommodates ~ 10 people for taking orders and you basically have to take your ice cream to go. They allow sampling of the scoop flavors. There is a bathroom and two very small window ledges some people choose to sit at, but since the shop is always packed it's a bit unpleasant to sit at butt-level with those on line. The service is fast, considering they never stop moving. Overall, I'd recommend everyone to at least try 1-900-Ice Cream since it's so convenient to Rittenhouse Square. Personally, the ice cream is pretty good with the dip but always disappointing with how fast it melts and gets messy. If there's a line longer than half a block, I'd recommend coming back another time. read more

Always a huge line for their popular flavors, and for the soft-serve and specials, that line is justified. My absolute favorite is their espresso soft-serve with cookie butter dip shell - it's divine and my latest favorite ice cream treat. However, the soft-serve flavors change almost weekly (besides the staple vanilla and chocolate) and a lot of the flavors don't sound super appealing (peppermint soft-serve for example, not sure about it). I wish when they had super popular specials the owner would keep them around longer / make enough for a rush (such as the recent Snuggle Jungle - homemade chocolate cake, snack crunch, caramel brulee, with peanut butter and espresso soft-serve - was so sad that this was sold out in less than one week and we didn't get to try it since we work until late every weekday). There is always a line outside this place but it was shorter today because it had rained earlier. Apparently the special soft serve flavors change depending on the day and the dip flavor does too.
