The referral for Eufaula BBQ sent me to Phil's B-B-Q. Home of "Best Butts in Alabama" according to the propaganda posted all around. First impression was a creosote coated chimney showing the evidence of a history of real wood fire cooking. When you walk in you can feel the classic BBQ joint ambience perfectly accented by the accumulated scent from the cooking with smoke. Second impression was smiling faces and genial people eager to help me make an informed decision about my barbecue experience today. I loaded up with chopped pork and ribs with fixin's. When it hit the table it made me smile. Classic light bread and pickles accented tasty looking meat. First bite was pickles. I like them like that. Baked beans were next and tasted like a complimentary warm & sweet sauce around perfectly done beans. The bean bite was just right. Brunswick stew was good too. A splash of Crystal made it that much better :) The chopped pork - from one of Alabama's best butts I suppose - was spot on. Done enough to yield to a bite and chewed just right too. Moist. Good smoke. A dab in the sweet sauce made it - Alright, Alright, Alright! Ribs bit clean and tasted as good as biting the best butt in Bama ;) I enjoyed all mine. Really loved this little BBQ joint on our way home from the beach. The meats and the sides were all great and it was very clean. The only disappointment way the tea was not good. Too sweet and not a strong tea flavor. We will definitely go back again though! read more

UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW! We stopped again last month (October), and it all was,AHHHMAZING once again!!! We get the chopped platters complete with trimmings of Cole Slaw , potato salad and Sweet Tea. Be sure to try their secret recipe sauces too! Staff is awesome, informative and friendly as usual! Just had lunch at Phll's on our way through Eufaula to PCB. For a quick lunch stop to/from the beach this is a casual and tasty BBQ option. The counter service was fast, correct and friendly. We got their chipped pork bbq sandwich and a side of beans. The bbq was sauced evenly and with a nice touch of vinegar and the baked beans were smokey, sweet and pipin' hot. This was the worst BBQ I've ever had. Tasted like straight vinegar. My daughter got the greasiest grilled cheese ever. We even put in a paper towrl to soak up some. It wasnt safable. The whole family ate 1 bite and felt sick. We tossed away almost $30 on greasy nasty food. Might need to take down signs and put up greasiest butts in town. read more

I am not from Eufaula but I have family who I visit and we go here because, as the locals know, it's just the best bbq. I've had the bbq pork and it's as good as can be. This place is amazing in every sense of the word. We happened upon this place on a day drive and we were nothing but satisfied. The gentleman at the counter was so kind and helpful to us and steered us into trying 4 different sides. He has such a refreshing personality. You must try the Mac-n-cheese, if nothing else. I had the chipped platter with baked beans and everything was fresh. My husband had the smoked platter which was also just as fresh and delicious. Really gone down hill the last 2 years. Meat was always flavorful however now just mediocre. Just left there and honestly no desire to go back after years of this being my go to place on the way to Fl. Asked for slaw on all sandwiches last time and left with no slaw. This time asked for slaw on all sandwiches and checked before pulling out. Guess what "no slaw." So my wife goes in and says we asked for slaw and a fellow in the back "not taking orders" argues you didn't ask for slaw and sadly continues to argue it. Saw a billboard for this place on the way home from gulf coast. They opened at 10am and glad we stopped! Ordered chopped pork sandwich and rib sandwich along with potato salad. Stopped by here on the way to Panama City Beach. Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. We all got chopped pork sandwiches and sides (Brunswick Stew, baked beans, and macaroni salad). All were good-especially liked the salad. The chopped pork was tasty with lots of crunchy bits. The mustard based sauce was different from what we're used to in ATL, but it was good. Typically, the meat is moist and tender and they offer five or so different types of BBQ sauces, some of which are homemade. The sides are good (baked beans and cole slaw are my favorites) and the desserts are yummy and homemade. If you like good Southern BBQ, then you can't go wrong at Phil's. The owner has taken down the signs on the main highway and you may need a GPS or smartphone to find the place.
