It must be easy to pass up this wonderful locale on the way to Florida, but only because it is set back from the main strip in Eufaula. They are the self proclaimed "best butts in town" and let me tell you "baby got back"! Not only was my chopped pork plate delicious, it was coupled with an appropriate portion of Mac n cheese, cole slaw and bonus pickles. I am disappointed that I am just discovering this wonderfully priced gem after passing through town so many times previously. I like big butts and I cannot lie! Ribs should not have been served. They were obviously from the day-before, or day-before-day-before batch. These were absolutely the worst ribs that I have ever seen. The pork sandwich had a tinge of old, needs to be thrown out meat. Service, from what we could read between the lines from Evelyn M. was "Why are you two here". She was curt, and not at all friendly with her responses to our menu questions. She seriously gives southern hospitality a really bad name. Can't speak for the rest of the staffs disdain for non-locals but from the looks of my order, as brought out to me, versus other patrons, that ordered the exact same menu items I would say that world traveled fast in the kitchen to "send the spoiled food to the old white couple from the city". Truly we felt discriminated against based on our non-local appearance. My suggestions to the reader if you are traveling through and want to get some BAR-B-Que, pass by PHILS BARBEQUE, i.e. Do Not Patronize as they will certainly discriminate against you for being an outsider. Mmm... my favorite chopped bbq. It's so juicy and flavorful. And the crispy ends is lovely as well. The mild bbq sauce is my favorite. I get a lb plate of chopped bbq with extra pickles and it's so good I won't try anything else lol. Well I have ate their bbq baked potatoes which is a special item they have on Wednesdays and they are amazing as well. I sometimes will get a side of Brunswick stew if I decide to get a jumbo chopped sandwich and sides. Their baked beans are pretty good a little sweet for my taste but are good. My husband loves their ribs baked beans and stew. My children love the chopped plate and pickles with me as well. It is a little pricey but it's well worth it when it comes to the quality. read more

BBQ was average. I passed through the area at the right time and followed the signs to find a new place. It had a cafeteria feel - order at the counter and find a table with a nondescript plaid table cloth. The pulled pork was good and the baked beans and Brunswick stew were average. None of the sauces provided were very impressive, so I mixed the baked beans, stew, and pork which wasn't too bad. Usually either the sides or the pork shines at this type of restaurant, and neither did here. I'd stop again if it was the right time during a trip through the area, but would just expect some quick average food at a reasonable price; no more, no less. I go through here at least 2 or 3 times a year and never have stopped to on my trip last week I did and discovered I had not missed anything. I have never hear of charging extra for the way they cut the meat for the sandwiches. The places I have ever eaten at charge if it is pork or beef but not if it chopped, sliced, or chipped. I ordered cole slaw on the sandwich and there was so little they could have left it off and I never would have missed it. I had the chipped bbq plate. It didn't wow me. It was chopped so finely it tasted soggy. The portions were a good size though and the sweet tea was amazing! They also allow you to bring your pets/dogs with you into the outside covered porch. And the only reason I am giving it a 4 star is because this place is pet friendly and the customer service was fantastic! other than that I would've rated it a 3 star. read more

I'm not sure why this got such good reviews because it is a just average place. Friendly staff, clean, well organized. Problem is that they make pork ribs but don't season them at all. Just meat!! Sides were ok, again no seasoning. Really wish the people doing BBQ would learn the basics. Pulled pork is very easy to do but requires a rub or seasoning prior to cooking. My nephew could make a fortune in this town with his skills & that's not his regular job. Step it up folks you have a nice place. Find someone that can cook!!! read more

Your nose tells you the instant you walk in: yup, you've come up the right place for BBQ. Heavenly aroma, friendly staff, and a huge menu. I was driving through town on business and knew this would be the only time I would ever be here, so I had to order carefully. I went with the baby back rib plate and it did not disappoint! Deliciously seasoned with no sauce allowed me to sample many different kind of BBQ sauce. My favorites ended up being the sweet lucy and the hot. Initially we were excited to stop here after reading the reviews. To all my Georgia peeps beware because this is not like BBQ back home! It really didn't have much flavor and the meat was mushy. There was a ton of bun and little meat. The cole slaw ad potatoe salad were good but if you are a BBQ place having good sides but poor butt's doesn't cut it. Wouldn't go again. read more

As far a BBQ goes, I dont think it can get much better than this. Admittedly, I have not eaten every item on the menu. But those that I have sampled have been awesome. I first tried the Brunswick Stew a year ago while visiting family (I live in Maryland). I was hooked (in fact , I just finished eating some for lunch). The baked beans are the best I've ever had (though my sister says hers is better...we will see). The BBQ pork is to die for. I will make Phil's a must see each time I visit home from now on. This place was delicious. We stopped on our way home from the beach. The potato salad literally tastes like the most delicious ranch dressing you've tasted with potatoes! The beans were good as well. I had the chipped bbq which, being a dipper, didn't make the task of dipping easy. My husband had the chopped chicken and I liked that too. They had too many sauces to truly get a gauge for what was good and what wasn't. I primarily ate the sweet and mild and they were good. We stopped here for lunch and were disappointed. The chopped pork sandwiches actually contained small cubes of pork. I guess we should have ordered chipped to get what I think of as chopped. Setting texture aside the pork was dry, tough and lacked smoke flavor. I saw no evidence of a smoke ring. It had not been cooked long enough for the collagen to break down and make it tender. I asked the girl if it was pulled or Chip she said they have both so I ordered the pulled when the guy brought it out he was polit but fingers were in the plate and when I opened up the bun it was far from pulled it was more like diced like someone would do a onion the bun was stale the meat wasn't seasoned and it was more of a small than large but it was so nasty I could not eat it so I just filled up on tea I live about 45 mins away and not only did I waist my money on poorly made food but I also waisted my timy time and gas. Take it from this food lover, Phil's was everything as advertised. They certainly have the best butts in Alabama. I was vacationing in the gulf and started getting hungry on the drive back to Atlanta. Based on the server's recommendation, I got the chopped pork sandwich and a side of ribs. With sauces ranging from sweet and tangy to spicy mustard, you can delight yourself in BBQ pork heaven. Each bite of the sandwich was filled with unctuous and savory pork. It was so moist and had just the right amount of burnt ends just to keep things interesting. I even enjoyed the house made pickles scattered throughout the sandwich. I love that the ribs did not come with sauce on them so that I could choose an assortment of condiments at the table. The rib meat simply glided off the bones. Everything seems homemade besides the bread. If I'm ever within a 20 mile range of this place, I'm definitely going back again and again. read more
