I reached out to Matt Burns in the early summer of 2020 for an estimate to replace the clearly failing railroad tie retaining wall in my back yard. Matt's was one of several estimates I sought, and pricing was all over the place. Matt's bid was competitive and fair, and he demonstrated a depth of knowledge and familiarity that made me immediately comfortable hiring him. Due to scheduling conflicts with another contractor installing a deck for me, I threw Matt a few curveballs. At least twice I had to ask him to move his start date, and when his team did arrive, the deck contractors were totally in his way. Throughout, Matt was patient and focused on his work. The guys he brought with him worked tirelessly over four days to excavate, remove old materials, prepare proper drainage missing from the old wall, rebuild the wall with new EP Henry pavers and regrade the area around the new wall - as well as around my driveway. Matt and his crew went above and beyond, doing extra regrading work not included in his estimate at no additional charge. And they cleaned up the work area at the end of the job beautifully. The wall looks so good that the old, shabby brick pavers by my pool now look sad by comparison. I'll be asking Matt Burns to come back to address that issue, and others, in the future. As with previous reviews, unresponsive. Requested possible date and no update after initial response. I have water leaking into basement due to pointing around stone has failed and need this taken care of promptly. He stated they will setup a evaluation in near future and are booking in fall/winter. On 8/9 I explained my situation and asked if they could be more specific due to issue. Here is it 8/17 and I have heard nothing back. This is typical of contractors I have run into on Yelp - guess its time to go to a box store for a recommended contractor. read more

Matt and his team did a great job on our front walkway and porch. He was one of a handful of people we had quote the project for us. He ripped up existing concrete sidewalk, and wet laid flagstone for the new walkway and then overlaid flagstone on our existing porch. He worked with us throughout the project, and was willing to make some adjustments on the fly. The final product looks great, he kept us in the loop the whole time, and was easy to talk to. We hired Matt Burns to demo our existing concrete patio, walkway, and retaining wall and install flagstone. Not an easy job considering the space and the extreme heat of August, but Matt and his crew showed up on time every day and impressed us with his incredible work ethic. Aside from the actual installation, Matt helped us through the whole process. We met at the stone yard, talked about what might look best, he made suggestions, and in the end, his eye and experience and our ideas made for a pretty fantastic patio. What initially drew me to choose Matt, was his responsiveness to my calls. He called back right away and communicated with us throughout the whole process. Matt is hands-down the most professional, accommodating, and detail-oriented contractor I have ever worked with. He's also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He cares deeply about the quality of the work and will go out of his way to satisfy his customers. My job required someone with masonry expertise. Due to chronic water problems / damage on the side of my home caused by my neighbor's faulty gutter, I asked Matt to see if we could remove vinyl siding and replace with a brick veneer. Additionally, he dug out the entire block foundation area, repairing any failing mortar joints, tarred over these areas, and applying a stucco coat on top for added measure. Matt also suggested that we put in a French Drain in this area to handle any other excess water. Knowing that I was still concerned about the potential for water damage (having lived with it for so long), he also removed a few courses of siding above the brickwork to apply aluminum step flashing along the edge and tar about another foot higher for an extra precaution. The work was done on time, with the highest degree of professionalism and craftsmanship, and Matt went very far above and beyond to make sure everything was done correctly. He oversaw each phase of the job personally and was in constant communication with me to ensure we were on the same page. The job was not an easy one, and was made even more challenging by an unreasonable neighbor, but Matt did such an excellent job on this that I had to leave a glowing review. Discusses project with you at minimum twice a day and it's a true conversation - a collaboration - he just wants you to be happy with the project since you are the one living with it ! Very clean work site throughout the day and at end of day. Very respectful of your home and property. We showed him some picture ideas from the Internet and came up with a great solution. He renovated our fireplace, took down the brick to the floor (see pics we posted of before and after). We wanted a mason because wanted to make sure it was structurally sound and weren't gonna have the chimney collapse. After the demo of the old brick, he put up dry wall , patched it, primed it, we picked out trim, went to tile store and he placed the tile. Works quickly, only took 3 days! Reliable. We hired Matt Burns to remove and redo our front concrete steps (our home sits on a hill), relay our front concrete walkway, and installation of a new railing. It was a significant job - 11 steps on a 45 degree hill. We are very satisfied with the quality of work performed by his team. Matt is responsive in communication both via email and the phone, which has been an issue with other contractors I've dealt with. He did a walk-through with my wife and I both before the job started and again afterwards to ensure our expectations were met. The initial railing he ordered for us did not match our front porch, so he returned the next day with a custom-made railing that looks great!
