Absolutely the worst haircut experience I've ever had. I know perfectly well how my previous hairstyle was cut--I only asked to trim it shorter and return to how it looked a month ago. Instead of listening, she arrogantly insisted on her own opinion, ignored any attempt at discussion, and with zero respect went ahead cutting the wrong way. She even mocked my hairstyle choice with a terrible attitude, as if I, the paying customer, had no right to speak. She acted as if she were the customer and the one paying. Without asking, she immediately used clippers. I'm not a barber, I just wanted to communicate clearly about my own hair--but she refused to listen at all. The result: a bad haircut, no hair wash, and a dismissive "come or don't, I don't care" attitude. She even told me things like "come if you want, or just leave," and "go back to where you came from." Arrogant, disrespectful, and condescending. Maybe if you're bald or only want a buzz cut, she could manage--but anything else, forget it. read more

I came on Yelp to find a place that knows how to cut asian hair, as after moving to the east coast for almost 15 years, i have yet to find a place that does't overcharge for a haircut and only does a so so job! Well, another place came up (which I don't recall what the name is now). When I called the number, Sue answered and told me to meet her here. She spent a few minutes looking at my hair, listening to what I want to achieve, and then "diagnosed" the problem with my current hair style and suggested a cut to compliment my face shape. I have very straight hair and lots of it. She thinned my hair a bit from the inside and styled it. I have never felt my head this light! And the most amazing thing!? I can wash my hair using a lot less shampoo and it dries very fast (I turned on my hairdryer maybe for a grand total of 3 minutes). I literally flip my hair over, dry it, flip it back up, pull my fingers through, maybe brush it and VIOLA! It's done! The haircut cost me $29 plus tip. And yes, the place is not fancy looking like some other hair salons, but then again, I rather get a great haircut at a clean but so so looking place, then an overpriced so so haircut at a fancy looking place. read more

The absolute worst haircut I've ever received in my life. Julie was nice, but just god awful. I showed her a picture, and was very clear of what I wanted. I thought we were on the same page as she was talking me through what she was going to do... She cut so much off that I don't even want to leave my house for the next few months. Worst part of it all is that I had to pay for it. Y haircutting while not perfect, is TEN TIMES better than what I got from here. Words cannot describe how much I urge whoever is reading this to stay away. After scheduling the appointment and hearing her voice and how hard it was for her to understand what I was saying, I had an uneasy feeling. Just a couple days ago, I got my hair cut somewhere else and was really disappointed with the lack of care, but Julie did an amazing job of cleaning me up and giving me a completely new style. I'm insecure and always wear my hear down covering my face, but she helped me to be confident and gave me a cut that really suited my face. She was so helpful and willing to talk about what worked and what didn't work, all while maintaining my wishes in mind. Honestly, I couldn't recommend Phil's more! And it was only $21! read more

This review is for Phil's on Broadway, which is separate from Phil's on Wall St. I've been coming here to get my hair cut for about a year now. I went to a few other places in town and only got so so cuts. Alexis does a great job with my difficult to cut hair, and the prices are very reasonable, $19 for a guy's cut. The place is above Gourmet Heaven and is easy to miss, but it is definitely worth a try. read more

Will NEVER and I mean NEVER return to Phil's on Broadway!! When I was there a few weeks ago the lady in the corner was talking about having abortions for the whole time I was there. That made everyone pretty uncomfortable. Really unprofessional environment and seems as if the owners don't care at all about their business. There isn't even a coat of paint on the walls. Just an all around crummy experience that is easily avoided by going elsewhere. read more

Great hairstylist, Alexis, tucked up in a barber shop above Gourmet Heaven. She is a great stylist and really stays atop current women styles and trends and I've seen her work magic for the guys, too. You are always taught "don't judge a book by its cover" , well Phil's on Broadway is a perfect example. While their appearance could deter you, don't let it! I have been going to Phil's for years and have YET to be disappointed. I have very thick, unruly hair and Alexis, my stylist not only knows how to cut and color it to perfection, but throughout the years, taught me how to style it on my own. I am now able to straighten it, curl it, and wear it natural thanx to her patience and expertise. I work in Fairfield county and people constantly stop me to compliment my cut and color ( no matter which style I wear it, even when it's pulled back!) If you are looking for a great cut and color at an affordable price I HIGHLY recommend Phil's! I would also like to add she does an amazing job with mens haircuts. My boyfriend went to her on many occasions to fix his haircuts from his barber and eventually switched to Phil 's!
