    Pho Tai Nam

Sophia and I decided to stay in the Peninsula this Saturday due to weather. It has been years since we ate here so it was time to have some lunch and catch up. We were able to get a booth upon walking in. The crowd was semi-busy which is a good thing. TVs were showing NCAA tournament games and music filled the speakers. One thing we noticed is prices have gone slightly up. Inflation perhaps. Nonetheless, we were hungry and just went with the main course. I selected a large portion of Pho Tai Nam, which consists of round steak and beef brisket. This was pretty good and filled me up, which is the norm every time I order Pho dishes. And as usual, I added some chili oil for spices. Everything was pretty good and tasted well, leaving yours truly with a full stomach. The only true knock I have on the visit is lack of service. We were served with our meals fine, but after we got our bowls they didn't come back to check in on us or see if we needed any refills of water. There were two servers and they were quite busy so that may explain it. Other than the mishap, our visit was fine. We'll definitely be back for another go around. Till next time :)

Look at this one tiny dinky piece of lettuce!

I do not recommend this place for authentic Vietnamese and or humbling service. This place is a joke, scam if you will. I've had springrolls countless of time all over the states and this place is one of the worst. The charge is ridiculous for the size made and skim ingredients. They went cheap and used one small shrimp and spilt it in half. Then one tiny finger sized lettuce. There's nothing packed but noodles! It's a really simple and inexpensive appetizer to make. And don't get me on the skill of the rolls! It's horrible! It's not firm or tightening so when you pick it up it's already broken and fallen apart! What's the difference in getting a vermicelli dish! What a disappointment to Vietnamese Culture

Nice Vietnamese restaurant serving a variety of menu items from salads, pho, banh mi's, noodle and rice dishes! Spring rolls and egg rolls were delicious (pork and shrimp to vegetarian). Pho is delicious, great warming broth that can be customized with their homemade chili oil, sriracha or seasoning sauces. Service is good, although we came in 30 minutes before closing, so the hot tea was bitter and bad. Overall, great restaurant with delicious authentic Vietnamese food and great service and ambiance!

The place was very nice looking and the service was quick. The thit nuong was well seasoned and was surprisingly good but the pho definitely wasn't very flavorful. The price was also pretty steep. Pho 83 is significantly cheaper than this. The pho was kinda just like water and did not have all of the meat the menu described. I would definitely recommend their grilled meats but unfortunately their pho is not worth it.

The prices here are higher than in other places but the portion sizes are also much larger. The A/C wasn't working so the air was a little humid in the restaurant.

This is the beatPho in VA hands down! I live in northern VA and used to live here in Hampton roads , so when we visit I always come back for some great food! I live the Pho and mix it up with the spring rolls or the fried egg rolls . My husband likes the 3 meat skewers ( beef, chicken, pork) it comes with rice and a salad and is fantastic! Everything is delicious, we just have our favorites! You can't go wrong with the freshness, portions and taste! I'm a loyal Customer even if it is only every couple of weeks!

Who would have thought you could find a pho spot in the middle of nowhere in Newport News? Lots of parking as it is in a large shopping plaza. I was surprised with the pho, the broth was rich and flavorful, 8/10. Bean sprouts, Thai basil, and lemon were fresh. I'd give the spring rolls a 6/10, it's kind of sad how small they were without much filling. You can also ask for a side of sliced onions and put sriracha and hoisin sauce over them with a squeeze of lime and eat it as a side dish with your pho. There was a lot of staff working, so was able to get seated, order, and eat quickly. Pretty large seating area, good for small groups and large groups.

We ordered two combination Pho and taro boba tea. Pho was ready in a flash, the broth was rich and full of flavor. Noddles and meat ratio was a bit off, we were expecting more meat since they were in smaller cuts. The vegetable toppings were fresh and good for two. The taro boba tea was delicious and very generous with boba balls. The service was OK but the place was immaculately clean. The dining area is bigger than it looks from outside. Overall, good place to get a quick Pho.

Sad to say, but this place has really gone downhill in recent years. I keep going back hoping that it's just temporary but it just keeps getting worse each time. Slow service, orders coming out wrong, undercooked food (the PORK in our eggrolls was completely raw this last visit!), tables not cleaned well, etc.... Overall just not a good experience.

H2, you were exactly what I needed!! I felt like I was coming down with a cold so my go to is always some pho or Vietnamese soup, and drop a whole lot of chili's in the broth. Safe to say that once again, it worked, and I'm left with no cold. My friend and I shared a pot of jasmine tea to cleanse our palettes in between mouthfuls of broth/noodles/bean sprouts. The broth was tasty; I added some hoisin sauce and chili seed paste to give it that extra kick I needed. The large is definitely large, but go big or go home baby. My friend ended up taking the rest of hers home - that's two meals for the price of one, and no need to cook dinner - don't we all like saving time and money, eh!? Service was very quick at lunch, super impressed. The restroom could have used a bit of TLC though.. wasn't the cleanest. Regardless, will definitely come back to this location in the future.

Awesome food and pricing for the amount of food you receive. I'm a fan of pho but there are others who can't compare.

Terrible experience, from the food to the wait staff. We thought our first time was just a one-off, nope. The second time was even worse.

The previous two times were perfect with apps and meals we've ordered. Even a co-worker of mine has been here and became a fan. Would the third time be icing on the cake for us? For this visit, we actually saw more people dining in with some ordering takeout. Not a bad deal on a nice Saturday afternoon. Staff was pretty busy around the restaurant keeping everyone happy. We were seated very quickly and ordered after a few minutes. For my meal, I ordered Cơm Thịt Gà Nướng (grilled lemongrass chicken) and a beverage of fresh squeezed sugar cane. The drink itself was really good. It wasn't too sweet and is actually good for you. Sophia drunk some and said the next time we come by, she'll order it. Great stuff indeed. The meal was very good as well. The chicken was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of veggies to go around. We got full halfway that we took it home where both still tasted great. Thanks again to Souper Pho and Banh Mi for this joyous occasion. We'll continue to be patrons the next time we're in the area :)

It arrived fresh and piping hot, with a beautifully crisp exterior that immediately told me it was made to order. The batter had that classic bánh xèo texture - thin but sturdy, with just the right amount of crunch without being greasy. Each bite had a satisfying contrast between the crisp shell and the warm filling inside. The plate came with a generous assortment of fresh greens, which added a nice brightness and balance to the dish. Everything tasted clean and well-prepared, and the greens paired especially well with the nước mắm dipping sauce, which was flavorful without being overly salty or overpowering. It had that familiar savory-sweet-tangy balance that really ties the whole dish together and makes you keep going back for another bite. What really elevated the experience, though, was the customer service. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it genuinely felt like he was happy to have customers there enjoying the food. He even took the time to show off some of the restaurant's awards, which honestly just reinforced the feeling that this place knows exactly what it's doing! You can tell there's a lot of pride behind both the food and the space. The atmosphere itself was relaxed and comfortable, making it an easy spot to enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. Overall, this was a really solid experience from start to finish - good food, thoughtfully prepared, and paired with warm, genuine hospitality. Would absolutely recommend stopping by if you're in the area, and I'd definitely come back again to try more items on the menu!
