Vibe on a Friday for dinner was on point and I loved that the place came alive with customers because that's a solid indication of how good it is, given the tucked away spot. This Thai house is one of several Tida kitchens in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. On a Tuesday evening, it was not crowded, and we were one of the only three occupied tables at 6 p.m. We sat at a booth along the front windowed wall. Our table was printed with a scenic painting of a Thai woman paddling a small boat. Nice touch. Surprised that all the servers were non-Asian women, which would have added to the cultural accuracy of the business. Regardless, ours was friendly and efficient and took good care of us. We ordered Tom Kha Soup, Fried Calamari as appetizers, and Drunken Noodles (#3 spice level) with vegetables and Ginger Stir Fry with Shrimp (#2 spice level) as our entrees. The coconut milk based soup which is normally on the sweeter side, also contained lemongrass which sparked a heated response. Different, but not beyond the pale. The Calamari was a mixed bag, with several of the rings tough, rubbery and lacking freshness. The dipping sauce was good. Our mains were both much better. The Drunken was loaded with carrot, green, yellow and red pepper, tomato, celery, spring onion, yellow onion, and sprouts. The sauce was just hot enough to make my nose run and very delicious. The Ginger Stir Fry was loaded with plump shrimp, Thai basil, onion and some other colorful veggies. My sister loved it. A fantastic meal! Adding this to the list of places we need to regularly visit. The menu is extensive but, not over whelming. A lot of great classic Thai dishes. The decor was very inviting. The hues of blue, and naturals with the Thai themed tables all really ties it together well. Very inviting. Panang Curry over broccoli was my favorite. The combination of broccoli, rice and sauce was perfect. It has a very soft heat to it. It did not disturb me at all. For my protein I opted for the chicken. That was a great combo. The crab rangoons were so creamy and flavorful. The house salad was fresh! We asked for both dressings, the peanut dressing and ginger dressing. The peanut dressing was my favorite but, the ginger was a close second. The peanut had a mild kick to it. We also ordered the fried rice, sweet n sour shrimp and pad Thai. They also scored high on our list. Our waitress worked very hard getting meals out, taking orders, seating people, keeping drinks filled and more. She was extremely polite and service with a smile through our whole visit. They seemed busy by the time we left around 6. They are tucked back next to a vacant grocery store. Very veggie filled rather than any noodles but still good. 7/10 Crab wonton: they were standard. The way they're folded makes the middle more soggy though 7/10 Pad woon sen: I loved the balance of veggies, protein, and noodles! I expected potato starch noodles rather than bean thread but it was still pretty good 8/10 Duck curry: they do NOT skimp on the duck. And Tida Thai is one of them. It's a cute thai restaurant with wonderful ambiance and plenty of seating. When you first walk in a pretty sounding wind chime announces your arrival. They also have a bar in the back if you don't want to sit at a table. Tip: the bar is where you place walk-in takeout orders. Make sure to grab a paper menu to take home! LOTS of parking spots available! Service (5/5): Both times we were here the service was on-point. Friendly and prompt staff. Food (5/5): I'm basing the 5 stars solely on this past order. Tida Thai is a very good Thai restaurant. We went to the location located in Newport News near Kiln Creek on a Sunday afternoon. The esthetics were ok. The dining area is half wall partitioned off from a bar area with the kitchen entrance behind, the the feel of the dining area seems a bit industrial. The food was very good. We had the chicken lettuce wrap, spring rolls, dumplings and the pork ginger stir fry, all pf which were very good. The soy flavor for the chicken lettuce wrap was a bit strong, but the dish overall was very good. The pork ginger stir fry was also very good. It had a good amount of ginger, as it should have which gave the dish great flavor. Temperature on the food was warm if not hot. Service was very attentive. Overall Tida Thai is a solid 4 leaning towards a 4.5. This restaurant is definitely a place we'll go back to for dine in. I enjoyed the meal and ambiance of this restaurant. The hot tea was soothing on the rainy night I came. The ice water had a strange aftertaste to me. We started with a variety of apps. The spring rolls with shrimp were fresh and delicious. The dipping sauce was delicious. The larb salad was prepared as medium spiced. I liked it but would much rather have it served with cabbage leaves or firm lettuce. Instead it was prepared like an actual salad with mixed greens. I would order it again but probably make it a little spicier. For my entree I had 4/5 spicy level tofu fried rice. It was a huge serving that was perfectly spiced. It was loaded with a lot of tofu that had a lot of flavor infused into it. I would highly recommend this dish. This was perhaps my 3rd or 4th visit to Tida Thai over the years. I took my family after seeing a yummy looking dish on their facebook page. Tida Thai is so nicely appointed you could dress up for a special meal and feel just right. They have a good but not overwhelming lunch crowd. Our waitress was very attentive but not overly so. The dishes came out fairly quickly and each was decoratively plated. We were offered chop sticks which I appreciated. They do not have a children's menu so we ordered plain white rice for our toddler. I asked for a small fried rice but they were unable to accomodate that request. Perhaps that is why I do not recall seeing kids in there. The environment is very calming and conversation is possible without bothering or being bothered by others. Two of us enjoyed Thai tea which was served in a tall glass. There is a very diverse menu to please any palate. Gluten free, vegan, keto, it's all there. Tida Thai is a bit removed from the street so they may not get drive by traffic. Once you know they are there you will want to give them your business when you are looking for a nice asian influenced meal in a pleasant environment. Prices were average for places in Virginia that serve alcohol. Our dishes were each in the $13 to $15 range. I will be returning perhaps to try those stuffed chicken wings I saw pictured on facebook, but preferably without 'shrooms. read more

I don't think think I've had Thai food this good since I lived in the Pacific NW. family-owned, this is a true gem with both authentic and Americanized Thai. The ambiance is very nice and it's both casual and classy enough to bring a date. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. I ordered the spring rolls, which were very crispy and fried yet not greasy. The sauce to dip them in was homemade. The Panang Curry was amazing! The tender meat, the fresh vegetables and the peanut, this dish was phenomenal! The two stars spicy provided a nice kick without being too hot for my taste. It's been quite some time since I've reviewed Tida Thai. I had the opportunity to dine with some business colleagues over the past two weeks, and on two occasions, our guests selected this restaurant. From my first visit several years ago, they have quite improved! The bar menu is now much more intricate, the service was fantastic, and the food was excellent. They have added a rewards program that generates coupons and free gifts for you if you join with your email address/phone number. On both visits, I ordered the chicken pad thai. On the first visit, I didn't get any spice level and it was far too bland. On the second, I ordered a 1 level and it was perfect for me. Also sampled the spring rolls, the crab wontons, and the drunken noodles. All quite tasty. And a bonus for us -- it's open on Monday. In fact, my last visit was so tasty, I had my hubby run out to get some more to-go after a very long day at the office. After bouncing back and forth between multiple Thai places in Newport News, I think this one is going to be our go-to. read more

But I know a lot of people that are happy with that. I personally would like a little more spice, but the flavors are amazing and I can always ask for a little more spice. We started with one of my favorites, spicy beef salad, delicious . We ordered basil fried rice, which is my husband's comfort food and he loves it from here. Massaman curry, which is potatoes and peanuts, one of my go to's and my mom got the special (pumpkin curry).
