This restaurant does not know how to make pho. I had dinner there with 5 other Vietnamese friends. All of us had few different types of pho. At the end, we concluded that this restaurant doesn't not have the real Vietnamese pho. Later, we found that no Vietnamese were there. The restaurant is not owned by a Vietnamese. The waiter was Cambodian. The service was also lousy. I asked for warm water and was served a half full cup of water that I was told "be careful, it is very hot" he also told me to mix it with some iced water already on the table before drinking. On the quest to visit as many VN restaurants as we can while we're in Paris for vacation in January this year 2024 after trying all the escargots, ducks, baguettes, croissants, we came to this restaurant as the last one on the list. It's in district 13 where all the VN restaurants are. It was raining and cold, there's seating outside with plastic sheet covers, but we went inside to sit. It's quite crowded, the seatings are so close together that the waiters had to pull the tables out for the customers to slide inside, the same with when they want to leave. This is a Vietnamese restaurant but none of the people in here can speak VN, so we just ordered with the number on the menu. The food is quite good, even the egg rolls are crispy and tasty with rice papers, not sure who's the cook but they did them well. My family didn't really like the seating arrangement, a little cramped for us but we're hungry and wanted to try some new VN restaurants. The pho was good with meatballs and rare beef. I like the tendons, brisket, but there seem to have none. The broth was excellent, the meats are more chewy than other places, but good. The price is excellent, quite inexpensive, no wonder they're so crowded even in the rainy day like today. The service was fast, and it's just like a fast food restaurants, you come, you eat and you run because the seating arrangement is quite tight, you're practically sitting next to someone you don't know to have your bowl of soup. Came by for coffee the other day and it was lackluster. Walked up and ordered at the counter and the iced Vietnamese coffee was 4,10 Euro. I'm a pho connoisseur as I eat pho 2-3x a week from the most authentic Pho restaurants in Toronto, Canada where there's a huge Viet population. I can tell you that this place is one of the better ones. Don't come here for the ambience but come for truly good food. Wanted to try how pho was like in Paris and this was one of the most reviewed locations in Paris per Google. Some differences I notice vs. from my experience in the States (particularly in Southern California)-- -They use red chili peppers (instead of jalapeños, which make their broth spicier if you add it in) -they use wider rice noodles -they use lemons vs limes - Sriracha isn't readily available unless you ask for it (maybe it is due to table space or it is just not commonly used?) Found the broth to be sweeter as well. For 10 euros, price wasn't bad for a different experience. You can also add additional meat or noodles for an additional fee. It is cash only. Along with fast service, they are super efficient with utilizing space. You literally have to move tables to squeeze in, but hey the more the merrier! You can also dine outside as well. Even at 2:30pm, there was a line for this place. Jump into the cue and scowl at the happy diners and hope that they'll eat fast. Lol Really, not to worry, this place is quick. The line moves fast, orders are taken right away, and food hits the table promptly. You'll be eating a delicious meal in no time. Most of the patrons were eating one of the many pho soups that were available. As for me, it was all about the banh cuon AKA in Paris as "Vietnamese Ravioli." Thin rice noodle sheets are wrapped around a filling of ground pork and wood ear fungus (like a mushroom) topped with green onions and fried shallots. Pour over the bowl of orange hued fish sauce and you're good to go. This meal really fulfilled my Asian food cravings after two weeks away from home. Five Vietnamese restaurants within a half block of each other, and Pho Banh Cuon is the only one with a queue ("line" in American). At peak times expect to wait a half-hour or so. They pack them in pretty tight here and the food comes out really quickly. The management does not encourage people to stick around and linger. Fantabulous pho, which I would expect in a restaurant in Paris. In case you've forgotten, the French used to run Viet Nam. Very brief menu with perhaps a dozen or so items, mostly around big bowls of steaming pho and some spring rolls. Large or small. There's enough in a large one to share, which is a deal for 7€. I don't really recommend it, as the noodles are quite long and tend to fall back into the soup. I had the beef pho, which had several thin strips of grilled beef with a couple of meatballs. Loads of noodles and vegetables in there, I was tempted to toss in a few of the garnish red peppers until I was warned that they are extremely hot. I also enjoyed my first Vietnamese beer, conveniently named 'Saigon'. Good stuff. Great meal, good service, a short wait. I would absolutely return! read more

He asked us about the pho in NY and how it compared to his place. He also asked us to compare the sizing - large in Paris is definitely much smaller than the large in NY, interesting. I go here every time I'm in Paris. Their broth is rich. I've always gotten #1 except for once. The bean sprouts are always of quality. The fried rolls always come out fresh and tongue-burning hot. I always add hot sauce, peppers, bean sprouts and lime juice. My pho needs to be a nice shade of orange/red before consumption. Snag a spot before a queue forms! I tried Bamboo or something else like that, but this has been my staple pho place. One negative is that the place is quite small, so it gets cramped very quickly inside. This place is super popular and very crowded during meal times and I can understand why. The food is delicious, but because it is so popular, it can be a sort of uncomfortable place to dine. When it comes to the food, it is priced very reasonably and the pho is some of the best I've had. The noodles are thicker than at many other pho places, which I liked. They were cooked perfectly and I liked the slightly chewy consistency. The soup is very hearty and was so nice to have on a cold night. I got a dish called Banh Cuon Tay Ho in the States... (but it's just banh cuon here) and it is so good at this restaurant. Here, they make it with clear, mung bean (or could be potato) sheets compared to rice sheets (which is what I'm used to). It's more chewier and flavorful because it sucks up all the fish sauce and it's not dripping all over the place like it does wrapped in rice paper. A serving size consists of 5 "dumplings" laid on a bed of beansprouts, paired with 8 slices of cha (ground pork slices), and freshly sprinkled fried onions and cilantro. It's a simple dish but packed with so much saliva-inducing flavor. Lines are always long as it's a well-known restaurant in the area but try to beat the crowd during off-meal times! This place is actually called Pho 14, so I don't know why it shows up as Pho Banh Cuon 14 on Yelp. We had to take the Metro here for some great pho. The noodles are fresh so a little bit more chewy. 10 euro for a large Dac Biet which is pretty reasonable for Paris as I had to pay 22 for fish and chips by the Eiffel Tower cafe. It comes with three meat balls which is a plus as most stateside Dac Biet doesn't even offer meatballs. A little salty which you will need to lime to sweeten the broth. Great pho. read more

Went here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, can't remember what time.... but there was definitely a line. However the line moved real fast. We knew that this must be the sh&t, since no other restaurant had a line waiting. We would patiently wait... My friend that I was traveling with is Vietnamese, so she's clearly had a couple bowls of Pho before. And she advised me that good Pho is all about the broth. We ordered some spring rolls (I think they were pork?) that were very lightly deep fried - - they were so good! They came with lettuce leafs to wrap them with, some mint leaves, and a really nice sauce. Plus then we both had Pho. My friend ordered everything actually for us (in Vietnamese). I trust her -- it was so good! She said that it was probably the best she's had. We also had the iced coffees. I'm more of a hot coffee fan, but these were delicious! Came here because of all the great reviews and had high expectations, sadly they were not met ... not even close. We walked up to the entrance and was seated outside. I ordered bún and though the noodles are supposed to be cold and dry, they were warm and soupy. My dish was absolutely disgusting to where even my boyfriend, who literally will eat anything, could not stomach it. However my boyfriend and his sister got Pho and they did like their dishes. Standard Pho here. Their broth is more 5-fived/sweeter infused than what I am accustomed to. The steak pieces were pretty lean not fatty. Noodles were standard. A little more wider than the typical rice noodles served in So Cal. Probably prefer the pho I have had in So Cal. With that being said, the only true good pho I have had was in Vietnam and sadly nothing including this place has come close to the great pho I had over there. I wouldn't highly recommend this place for pho lovers though. Will not be a returning customer here. We went to this place after a long day visiting museums and were craving for good Vietnamese food. My friends have been here several times and have recommended this place. It is always busy and has a long line of customers waiting. We went there around 3 pm and were lucky to get seated right away. We got pho special, banh coun (clear rice sheet rolls), bean drinks, and Sam Bo Loung drink (sweet herbal nuts drink). They are all pretty good and stay truth to the original dishes in Vietnam (trust me! I grown up eating pho at least once a week!) Overall, we were quite pleased with our meal. So far, this has been one of our favorite meals in Paris. We had skipped lunch and arrived here starving late afternoon on Wednesday. Since it was a random time, the place wasn't very busy and we opted for a table outside. We ordered #2, #6, & #8. The beef pho with flank and brisket was one of the best we've had (second only to a place in Houston); the broth was flavorful and neither too watery nor too heavy and wasn't overly sweet, which we can't stand; meat was fine; great accoutrements; wider noodles than the vermicelli-like ones you get in the States that we enjoyed better. The chicken eggs rolls were remarkably crisp and well-seasoned, albeit a bit too oily. The noodle/pork/veggie bowl (forgot the name) was also tasty and had a nice zippiness to it. Cold beer+perfect weather+behaving toddler=vacation happiness. Portions are generous, prices are decent, and even the grumpy service didn't bother us. To boot, the location was close to Place D'Italie, where one of us lived when she studied abroad, so we got to walk around there as well. I was really excited about this restaurant, seeing as most Vietnamese restaurants in Paris are some mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, etc. When we arrived, there was already a line of 15 people waiting for a table. Luckily we were a party of two and waited only a few minutes before we were seated next to a larger party. This review is a little biased. Since I'm Vietnamese and grew up in an area heavily saturated with Vietnamese immigrants, I've been spoiled with the authenticity of all the Vietnamese food around me. Having since moved to Paris, its just sometimes easier to pop into Tang Freres and make a dish myself instead of being disappointed in a Viet/Thai restaurant. I would have given the restaurant 4 stars, perhaps if I had tried the pho, or maybe even the banh cuon. However, I did the equivalent of going to a steakhouse and ordering a pork chop. We ordered the Bo Bun Cha Gio, which is beef with vermicelli and egg rolls. For some reason, I wasn't really craving a hot soup, probably my mistake. When the dishes came out, the bun/noodles were hot. First off, I don't know about you, but usually when I order bun, its not steaming, having been just boiled. Usually you make a lot of bun and set it aside to cool. This threw the dish off for me since the hot noodles continued to expand soaking up the fish sauce I poured over them. The noodles were also overcooked and would fall apart as we tried to scoop them up with chopsticks. Another thing to note is that the waiter who took our order was French, not Vietnamese. True, his wife is probably Vietnamese and the owner. However, it made it impossible to order in Vietnamese and ask for things that I don't know how to say in French. For example, I wanted to order a Cafe Sua Da, which is a Vietnamese iced coffee. Instead I ordered coffee asking for the one with sweetened condensed milk. We ended up getting hot espressos. I'll have to come back to this place and check out the pho. It seems that most of the other customers were eating pho, and this is perhaps the reason why an uncommon menu item was a bit lack-luster. read more

What a well oiled machine. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating, and a lot of it. Which is a change from most restaurants in the city. Their menu is adorable, with a somewhat 3D layout of their food and drink options. We ordered almost everything on the menu and were most pleased with the pork pancakes and, of course, the Pho. But fair warning, the broth is sweet.
