Pho Chau is my favorite place to eat in Rochester. This is some really authentic Vietnamese food. Everything here is so flavorful, and my favorite part is that the food can get very spicy! For example, the Bo Kho here is so good. The broth was delicious, and I loved adding the chili crisp/oil provided at the table. The beef was very tender, and the noodles were perfectly chewy too. I got a side of the Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp, which were also delicious and paired well with the spicy broth. The menu is quite diverse and has non-noodle/spicy dishes too, including vegetarian options. The service was very quick and the staff were all very friendly. There were plenty of tables too, and this restaurant would be particularly great for large groups. Definitely come and visit Pho Chau!

This place is a little out of the way, but it feels like a hidden gem in Roch. The staff is quiet, knowledgeable, and helpful. I thought the pho tai broth had depth and was fatty with being greazy. This was a quick in and out visit, so I didn't try anything else, but I will definitely be back to try other menu items. Their chili oil was excellent!

No frills pho place with good soup base. Casual dining with fast service. For most the dishes you choose the style and then add the protein which is extra. It's a little pricier than other places - but given the location in Rochester I would say a premium is not unwarranted. Solid food. I'd go back again. Boba teas are also pretty good.

Pho Chau is amazing. The service is beyond fantastic. The food is on point. I love how the pho broth is a little fatty. Most restaurants skin the access fat from the bone and the broth just becomes too clean for me lol Their Springrolls are different from what I'm used to, but it's still good. I love their Chicago fried rice. Something about it is just... so delicious. I highly recommend arriving early as they do get busy quickly.

The service can be better. I dont like when they give the bill on the table as soon as the foods is out. The chicken broth pho is not too tasty. My cousin said the beef pho is better. Pho Chau is not too bad, especially if you're looking for a fix on Vietnamese food. However, with proximity to Pho Tai and other Asian dineries, it is more of a backup restaurant. Menu is not quite as extensive and is pretty overwhelming from a price perspective. A bowl of Pho will run you like $14-15 which is about 20% more than other places. The rice platter (3.5/5) ordered was not as traditional. The rice was not broken, the meat was drenched with food coloring, and the lack of meat loaf and few other items made it disappointing. Wife was feeling Pad Thai (3/5), and this version was really oily. The use of fish sauce was nice, but a little more overpowering than others Overall, Pho Chau is not too bad, but prices and alternatives make it challenging to re-visit.

This review marks my 500th in 2021. It's fitting that I write about a Vietnamese restaurant in Rochester, a city that I called my home for two years. Back when I was a resident, there weren't any Vietnamese eateries in Rochester. I couldn't get a bowl of pho. I resorted to either making my own or heading up to the Twin Cities to get my fix. Just before the pandemic started, I visited Kung Fu Tea and noticed Pho Chau next door. I bookmarked it. On Christmas Eve, I was driving up from Elma, Iowa, and needed lunch. I remembered Pho Chau and drove over here. There is parking in front of this restaurant. There is also more parking around the eatery. I parked closest to N. Broadway Avenue and walked in. A woman was prompt greeting me. She got me a menu and guided me to a booth. It was just before 3 pm and I was hungry. I got the following items: - Fried chicken dumplings - Beef and meatball pho (#17 on the menu) My food came out fairly fast. Both items were brought to my table at the same time. I practically inhaled all six fried chicken dumplings. I was so hungry. These dumplings were great. Each one had plenty of filling. The wrapper on each was thin and crispy. The dipping sauce was yummy. The dumplings were so flavourful. I'd get them again. The pho comes in one size. I got a huge bowl of comfort placed in front of me. I added the bean sprouts and cilantro into my pho, and squeezed the lime. The broth was excellent. It was authentic and so good that the broth scent stayed on my clothes for a while. The beef was tender and didn't require much effort to eat. The meatballs were hearty. The noodles were perfect. I loved it. The removal of a star in my rating was abruptly getting my bill from this woman without being asked if I wanted anything else. She dictated that I was done. Weird. Part of me wanted the che 3 mau, but I decided to now skip it and revisit Kung Fu Tea instead. I went up to the counter to pay for my food with a credit card. I tipped and paid. All done! I used the women's washroom before making the hour drive up to Eagan. It's a single stall and was clean. I'd return again. If I do want the che 3 mau next time, I'll need to order it with the rest of my meal before I automatically get the bill. (500)

We were once 2x a week customers, after yesterday we will be looking for a new place to get Vietnamese food. Since the new ownership, the staff is not friendly, the prices went up considerably and the food just isn't the same. We actually went there two years in a row for our anniversary and the previous owner made a big deal about it. It's all business now. My wife loves (loved) spring rolls and the order we got yesterday did not taste fresh, they were falling apart and the peanut sauce tasted like burned molasses. What a shame. read more

It's a ok place. The pho is good. Parking is bad. Dishes range from $6.50 to $8.95. I do not recommend ordering anything that is cooked or baked in a clay or iron cast bowl, because the rice and stir-dry taste, a little burnt. read more

I've been here so many times already in the short time I've lived in Rochester and I can honestly say there hasn't been anything I've ordered that wasn't delicious. The pho is awesome and so are the fresh spring rolls. These 2 are the basics of Vietnamese restaurants. If you can't get them right then you're failing. But pho chau definitely has it right! I've also tried the egg noodles seafood soup, seafood rice in a clay pot, and also the broken rice with pork chop dishes. Those have all been amazing! There is a lot to choose from on their menu and my family will definitely be back more and more to try it all! read more

We've eaten here many times and the food is consistently delicious. Service is friendly and fast. If you have any specific requests they are very accommodating. Get the spring rolls and crab rangoons. My favorites dishes are the vermicelli noodle bowls, although nothing beats a big bowl of pho during a Minnesota winter. The owner is a sweetheart. read more

The food is very good! However, We ordered com bo Tay cam (beef rice) and they did not state on the menu that it had pork. That definitely needed to be stated. Also our waiter said that it's not pork that it's Chinese sausage which is pork!! read more

NEW management. this used to be my favorite resturant in rochester minnesota. I tried their Pho and it is missing many of the ingredients for flavor. I am very sad that their prices have sky rocketed too with new managment! where in town does it cost in the kids menu 5.95 for "kraft" macoroni and cheese?! I used to be able to get an appetizer and three entrees and walk out the door for 30 some odd dollars, now recently in year 2020 it cost me 50.00 just for that and the food id totally disappointing. Next time I will not go here!!!! I am sorry they didnt get the previous owners recipes and maybe they did. And maybe this owner is just in it for the money! I would recommend just driving up to the twin cities and enjoy the afternoon! last place was 5 stars this is barely 2 because of the prices for mediocre food! read more

10/7/2013 Had the #46, Bún Bò Xào, Beef Lemongrass Vernicelli, and spring rolls. Very tasty and filling. My husband and I split the meal together, and left satisfied. While we were eating a big Vietnamese family came in and had lunch as well-- apparently the food is more than authentic enough! Bathrooms were clean, service was polite and quick (considering it's two ladies doing all the up-front work), parking was a little tight, but we'll come back the next time we swing through Rochester. read more

Pretty obsessed with this place. I haven't had anything but Pad Thai and I'm perfectly okay with that. I would like to try the Pho some time but I can't bring myself to order anything besides that Pad Thai. It has more veggies than others that ove had which is a big plus. Good chicken and yummy sauce. They'll customize you spice as well. Get it NOW and if you don't like it, being it to me and I'll finish it. read more

I would say the food is average to slightly above average. But the prices are incredible. You can walk out getting a huge plate of Pad Thai for under $7, and that'll make two meals! I'll be back. read more

Yummy food! I really like the #76 and #67. They are coconut curries. The staff are always friendly. Sometimes it takes a while for the servers, but I think it's because they are so busy. This is in my top 5 favorite restaurants in Rochester. read more

I know that this place might be the only Vietnamese place in Rochester and maybe one of the few Asian places here but Just because it's the only place doesn't make it the best! On a very busy day the place was all packed but luckily we didn't wait long to be seated. Our server was nice but seemed confused with the many tables he had to serve! Obviously they were short on staff on that day. Our meals took long to arrive and they didn't come all at the same time like most of the restaurants do! So when my meal arrived finally I ate few bites to realize it wasn't actually what I ordered. They brought me someone else's meal and probably gave my meal to another person! So I had to wait again for our server to show up to tell him about this, he apologized and told me they will replace it for me free of charge but by that time we've been at the restaurant for over an hour and my baby started to get fussy from the loud crowds. I expected it to take long for them to prepare my meal so I asked them to have it go. So my hubby took the kid out to the car while I waited for my meal. And at the end the food wasn't good! It was just a huge meal with mainly carbs and less protein and rarely ever any flavor! Leaving the restaurant hungry and distressed is always a bad sign..we will not be back. read more

Let me first say I am not super well versed in Pho or Thai or anything of the like. We went to Pho Chau solely trusting the Yelp stars it had seemingly earned. We were not disappointed. The place was very busy for a Wednesday night (a good sign). The menu was very long and a little confusing to someone who doesn't know their way around Pho. The food came fast and was very good. Don't skip the crab Rangoon - so good!! The staff is very hurried and there's a quick smile with service but it is still there. Nothing fancy about the decor but when you're slurping soup who needs it. Will definitely go again! Super affordable. Parking sucks but deal with it - it's worth it. read more

The hot sour chicken soup was excellent. The egg rolls were very tasty, flavorful inside and nice and crispy outside, freshly made and hot. I don't know where they find such fresh veggies like the okra this time of year, but they were great in this dish. The service is very friendly. I am a single person and I don't mind eating out by myself. But I find ethnic restaurants are terrible to single people, and this one is no exception. They put me in the worst seat in the house and forget about me. I routinely have to ask for more water (I'm never asked if I want anything else) and have to ask at least twice for my check. The food is average and the parking is horrible and now that they've taken my favorite dish off the menu, I won't be back. read more

I came here after my visit with my husband at Mayo Clinic. Came here for lunch prior to my drive back to Minneapolis. This place has a lot of choices to choose from and very reasonable in pricing compared to the twin cities area. The service was great also. I am giving it a 4 star because I find that the food was good, but can be a bit plain---maybe catering more to the general public vs. completely authentic. Portions were very generous. Overall, we had a great time trying out different things and had lots of leftovers to bring home (along the long trip home snacking). read more

One of the best restaurants in Rochester. Chau (the owner) will make any food accommodation needed, and always recommends a dish if you're new to Vietnamese food. If you don't like spice, or mushrooms, or noodles, Chau will find something wonderful on the menu you will love. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get, and you will almost certainly have leftovers to bring home. We also like to order then come pick up something delicious to take home. Thank goodness I live so close, I can go anytime! And I certainly do. read more

I got the combo pad Thai, beef lemongrass noodles, spring rolls and shrimp ball. The shrimp ball was sort of dry and not that great. The spring rolls were ok. I didn't love the hoisin sauce dip. I would have rather had the fish sauce dip. Both the noodle dishes were tasty though and fresh. The sauces that. And with it were delicious. read more

Excellent restaurant to have dinners. Prices are cheap but the food is always superb. The pho may not be the best but vietnamese crepe and rice toppings are excellent. This is probably the best Asian restaurant in Rochester. read more

For the price this place is a good deal. The food is OK, nothing special but the portions are generous and the service very friendly. $15 for two dinners. As for other reviews that rave about the food I would say that it is pretty average for Vietnamese... and I would suggest they might need to try pho in larger metro areas around the country to get a better perspective. read more

But, that was alright. Gigi, became our server and she was also bartending. She was the best! She was on it. After dinner, a large group came into the bar and she was pumping those drinks out so fast. My brother-in-law ordered a 3 course meal off the guest appreciation menu, which was a great deal for $39.00. My husband and I ordered the calamari for an appetizer. This was the only thing we were disappointed with as the aioli had no flavor nor did the calamari. We ordered sushi, the California Roll and Spider Roll, both very delicious. The menu is HUGE and it's in Vietnamese (I think? I don't know for sure though). The waitstaff wasn't on the top of their game, but you could tell they were very busy with take out orders. Once we did manage to get someone to take our order, they were very helpful in deciphering the menu, and had great suggestions on what to order. The spring rolls and the crab rangoons are a MUST! I'm not a fan of cilantro, but my mother is and she said the spring rolls were amazing. I tried a bit and they were really great until the cilantro kicked in. I had the crab rangoons and they were amazing! I could have eaten just those and been totally satisfied! Yum! After that my mom got the beef Pho and I got the shrimp lo mien. It came out surprisingly fast and it was the perfect temperature. How many restaurants can you walk into, and be greeted by name? In Rochester, MN Pho Chau is the one every single time! Chou, the owner remembers everyones name, and welcomes you into her restaurant when you come. It's worth the experience. Next if you are up for it, try the Pho Soup, it is a flavor filled meal in itself that can fill you up not once, but for a couple meals if you are not careful. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The kitchen serves up food that tastes great and comes out in a timely manner. Look, I love it when the owner knows your name. It's another thing when she remembers you three months later. Chou is that owner, and she's the best. As for the staff, they are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine. The kitchen puts out food that is delicious and efficient. Great food, great people (especially the owner lady). Pho Chau is a place that isn't very well located, the indoor decoration is not great but it is very authentic and the food is delicious. Additionally, this restaurant is quite inexpensive. Make sure you don't come too late, they close early. (Best time to come is at 8.00PM, there are less people).
