What? I never reviewed Pho Ever? This is a long due review then... So I now live in Solana Beach, North San Diego County and there are not so many Vietnamese restaurant around here, especially by the coast. So I had to try them all and I must say that Pho Ever is the most decent one I have found. First, the staff: young friendly, dynamic and fun! Therefore you'll always get good and fast service. Foodwise, I have my habits and usually get: - Seafood pho with extra veggies (under $10): light broth, flavorful and delicate. Fresh veggies. Perfect for a quick lunch (add $1.5 during lunch and get a fresh spring roll or 2 egg rolls. Nice). - Fried rice veggie noodles: first place I went that actually offers this dish. even though it's vegetarian, they still manage to make it super tasty. - My favorite dish: the combination Stir Fried (Com Chao Thap Cam, I think...), I just love the fresh veggies, meat and seafood combined together along with rice and a lot of fresh chili! The Bun Rieu is good, but it's not necessarily the place I'd recommend for this particular dish. They also have Happy hours with discounted draft beers (nice selection for a Vietnamese restaurant by the way!!), wines and appetizers. Recommended! read more

Is this place under new management or new chef? I ordered chicken lo mein. The lo mein had a thick layer of pepper on the top making it too spicy to eat for my toddler and it's extremely salty. I really wish to like this place. Given them 3 try's and Every. Single. Time. the food quality is poor, the dishes are barely Vietnamese. It's a shame this is how they represent Vietnamese food. Thoroughly surprised by the positive reviews. My guess is all their friends. Took a friend to lunch here today. My day old egg roll on vermicelli noodle was was barely edible. Egg roll was cold and chewy, the meat inside was rubber. The bbq pork chop was coated with a pink color coating and not bbq'd. Maybe it was day old meat. Ordered their version of bun Bo que once. Had pho meat instead of the proper pork and beef. This isn't really Vietnamese food. It really deserves negative stars. Because i know good Vietnamese cooking from my mom, people will often ask me for a recommendation on a good Vietnamese restaurant. I most definitely do not recommend eating here. Stay away. I can't believe it's taken so long to write this review, we have been going here for years now whether it's your first or hundredth time going you have to try the lemon chicken wings. They are amazing the owner and staff go above and beyond getting to know their customers and I love that. Went to this pho restaurant a few times before the pandemic, the phos were okay but not great. Just re-visited it recently, the quality of the phos has improved a lot! First of all, the menu has changed. You can choose between beef, chicken and vegetarian broth, 4 different types of noodle, and 3 out of 8 different protein. The broth is now very hot, which is very important to cook the bean sprout, basil and green pepper. The beef broth is delicious! It's saturated but not salty at all, didnt taste like it has MSG in it! The proteins are also very good and quite big in portion, particularly the tendons, which is quite unusual! The pho is bland with minimum noodle and barely any beef or tendon on it. The seafood dry noodle barely had noodles on it, just bunch of veggies. Service is very slow, unattentive. When we got there no one greeted us. The restaurant was 3/4 full with three servers. We finally sat down and it took approx 10 min for menu to come. I've been here at least 5 times since it was opened. Sad to say this last visit will be my last time. So disgusting. We sat near the kitchen and saw the floor inside the kitchen and it was filthy. There were fruit flies that kept bugging us the whole meal. The pho which I really liked before wasn't even hot when it came out. Went on a Thursday at noon. Easily got seated for party of 7. We had several different different kinds of Pho. Also the crispy chow mein. We also had a "crepe like" fried appetizer filled with chicken shrimp and bean sprouts. Served with lettuce and mint and jalapenos (to wrap) and a dipping sauce. Delicious! We also had the "bun"--dry vermicelli with vegetables, bbq pork and shrimp, bean sprouts and peanuts. Also a dipping sauce-of which I used all! All in all a very good restaurant with good service. I've been to the one in Vista where the owner is awesome and so I figured I'd take my family to this one since we were nearby and my kids wanted pho. It was empty so we were the only ones, we ordered our drinks and our kids cups was covered in coffee grains. The waiter told us not to worry that it's just coffee grains and not dirt, but if you know that, why don't you clean it off? My kids are too young for coffee grains on their cups anyway. The coffee grains got onto our appetizer plates and he even served us some tofu spring rolls with some coffee grains on the side. If there's a spill in the kitchen, give is new plates or something. The tofu spring rolls were good but a bit smaller than the usual spring rolls I get and it came out immediately so I don't know how long it's been sitting out. I got the chicken pho and my husband got the rare steak pho and the kids shared a kids bowl of pho. They put a lot of meat in the broth, I'm not complaining, just letting you know that they were generous with the meats. However, my noodles were not fully cooked yet, it wasn't even soft so I sat there waiting for it to soften up in the broth. Not only does this place offer Encinitas' best Pho, they also have fantastic and helpful staff. Their portions are huge, prices are very fair, and service is super quick! I highly recommend the Build Your Own Pho with beef broth and lots of Tai (yum!). I came in tonight ordering food for my little sister, and the cashier helped me not only go through the menu and pick out everything that would suit her, but also was kind and thoughtful as to include kid-friendly chopstick holders. As someone who pretty much lives in Encinitas part-time, I'm literally pinching myself for not having tried this place sooner! I typically stay closer to downtown / the beach area, so this is a bit further than I usually frequent. However, today, I had my pugs with me and needed somewhere that was dog friendly to dine. I also wanted to try something new. Since going vegan, I have only ever found one other vegan pho that actually tastes anything remotely like pho, and that was in LA. I placed an order through their online order system (Clover) which is strongly encouraged when you call the restaurant (not a third party delivery service). After it was successfully placed and I was charged, I arrived to pick it up only to find that they had no record of the transaction. The employee at the front counter casually stated that their WiFi was down and that this happens all the time. Instead of being apologetic and trying to make it right, they said they could put the order in and and it'd be ready in 40 minutes. That was a bit much as I'd already given them 40 minutes on Valentine's Day. I decided to go with a quicker solution at an adjacent restaurant but they couldn't issue a refund due to the same WiFi issue. Instead of offering to refund the transaction they told me that I'd have to call them the next day when their system was operating again to request a refund. Long story short it took four tries before I finally got my refund issued. I requested that the manager would give me a call back and was ghosted I'm just really disappointed in their poor customer relations and lack of respect. After discovering this place a few months ago, this is now my parents' go-to spot for Vietnamese food. We came on a Sunday night around 7pm and waited for 10 minutes for a table. My parents noticed immediately that they had changed their menu. We ordered the Banh Xeo to share and I ordered the Bun Thit Nuong with Cha Gio. The banh xeo was sooooo crispy, it was fantastic. But everything else was quite under seasoned. Nuoc mam was definitely needed. The bun thit nuong was okay. The pork wasn't cooked the right way - it lacked charring. And I was really concerned that they still are serving Romaine lettuce considering the mass E. coli outbreak. The food was satisfying but mediocre - I've had better Vietnamese food. The reason this place is losing 2 stars is for the service. The waitress taking our order seemed so nervous and was not familiar with the menu. We had about 4 different people waiting on our table and each person was moving so fast, rushing around and unattentive. Example: We needed more utensils and water. When someone came to our table, we asked for utensils but before we could even finish the question, they rushed away. Brought back utensils but again, rushed away before we could finish asking for water. We ended up calling a different person over. The service here is fast but not in a good way. And the food even took a while to come out. Considering subpar service and average food quality, I can't say I recommend this place and I won't be coming back. Went back here and had their banh-mi sandwich with bbq chicken. It was very disappointing. First, it came in a small plate with zero utensils. It appeared to be cut in half but when you tried to pull it apart it had a huge long cucumber slice running between both halves that fell into the table and was unsanitary. Then, you had whole pieces of cilantro with ends included on it. Maybe this is how it's usually served but I did not care for it. It was very poorly seasoned with very dry chicken that did not taste anything like bbq nor had any bbq sauce on it prior to being placed onto the sandwich roll. It was advertised in the menu as with "a side of jalapeño" which I guess to them means one long slice of jalapeño on their tiny plate. It was a dry piece of bread with even dryer ingredients in it and I was unable to eat this. Honestly, for as good as their pho was - this was really bad. And, then, BAM, they opened for biz, and the Soup and Spring Rolls Gods granted my prayers! As far as quality, Pho-Ever has got it DOWN! Why? Because when it comes to making a decent Pho broth, "Patience is a virtue, especially when tested." It's obvious they put loving time, care, and refinement into their beef (we're talking filet mignon), chicken, seafood, and vegetarian broths. They are SO DELICIOUS! They also use the best quality meats, vegetables, and noodles. Their Large #1 Combination Pho is perfection personified because it's tasty, not overly salty, full of fresh ingredients, and packed with flavor. As for their Spring Rolls, well, they really are THAT good. Whether it's the Shrimp & Pork, Grilled Pork, BBQ Chicken or Beef, or Vegetarian rolls, each one is delightfully crunchy, savory, and not overly chewy. So, what else to try here at Pho-Ever that you won't find in other nearby Asian eateries? 1. Lettuce Wraps- So Yummerific! Perfect for a light meal or shared appetizer. The fried shallots really add a brilliant dimension to this dish. 2. Mi Quang- My FAVORITE! You don't see this dish on my Pho menus. It's not really a soup and not really a noodle dish, but something in between! 3. Banh Mi Bo Kho- Spicy simmered Beef Soup. If you like something deliciously caliente, well, this dish will warm you up from the inside out! 4. Bun Rue- Tomato, Chicken, & Crab Soup, with their own homemade Shrimp Cakes! Need I say more?! What's also cool is that you can eat really clean and cheap here. Their Vegetarian options are plentiful and varied. This weekend I'm in training so I opted for the Large Vegetarian Pho with Steamed Tofu, Vegetarian Springs Rolls, and a Vegetarian Sandwich (that I could pack for lunch tomorrow), all for about $20! I've been going to the original one in Vista while they were still at their 100th or so review (now probably 500?) so I know their food pretty well in terms of quality and consistency. I'd say this location is pretty new and still need a bit more time to adjust. Overall the food was good and they of course still use the filet mignon for their pho which is amazing! At the end of the day, I still prefer the Vista one due to the taste that I'm used to and the location being closer to home. I remember some servers there who got transferred from the Vista location. They were all friendly and helpful. The restaurant is new so the decor is brand new and modern with a nice tile floor and comfortable booths. Menu and prices are still the same. We got the chicken wings, pho with spring rolls and the crispy combination noodles. The chicken wing flavor was amazing with crispy skin and juicy meat, and it's even better with the deep-fried scallions as garnish and extra flavor! The wings could be less oily though as you can see the leftover oil on the plate with the last chicken wing there. The pho soup was bomb, still, full of flavor and the filet mignon rare steak was so tender. The soup was not hot enough for me though and it took a bit longer than usual for the steak to cook because of that. The spring roll skin was fresh and chewy, but the rice noodles inside started to taste a bit dry. Overall it's still a decent spring roll with the peanut sauce, but I wouldn't say it's amazing. Crispy combination noodles were very crispy and flavorful but a bit on the salty side. It's still good though! Overall, it's still a better pho restaurant than many pho places around, especially in North County. But my honest opinion would be, for now, the Vista location still tastes better! read more

Even on vacay, this NorCal gal needs her pho fix. Around North of San Diego, I noticed there are not a lot of Asian restaurants of any type. So when my Yelp search pulled up this spot, off I go. It's in the burbs of Encinitas in a strip mall on El CaminO Real. It's ok for the area, but if you are familiar eating pho...this place may disappoint you. We dined here around 7:30 pm on a summer weeknight. Well first of all the service is a bit aloof bordering on obnoxious. I left here very annoyed with my waiter. There were two young men that seem to keep the other younger staff in line. But once those two stepped back into the kitchen, the rest of the crew seemed to be lost. They goofed up one of our orders and served beef broth when we ordered chicken. But I suppose this happens when the waiter doesn't write it down. He also sloppily cleaned tables, swishing the broth on tables and the floors. He spilled a bowl of broth within 2 feet of us. Thank goodness he didn't deliver our phos to us. He did bump into my chair and me. He led customers between the tables instead of walking them around unlike the two other fellas. So I was bumped numerous times. Too many folks brushed up against my hair...ugh...gross. He initially stopped after I told him, but started up again later. Plus it took me 3xs asking and close to 15 minutes to get our change back. My young waiter was an airhead. He was not getting a $13 tip from my $40. His excuse was that he had to change the register tape. Please...excuses. I'm not blind. Yes, he needed to change the tape. But stop taking orders and clearing tables with no customers waiting and change the darn tape right when you first realized it ran out. The pho was good, not great and not bad at all. I ordered the regular #2 pho. The broth could have been served hotter and it was not as flavorful as I am used to. The meat servings were skimpy. The service was really great! The 2 girls in the front were so nice. The food was just okay. The pho broth lacked flavor and it was warm, not hot. I'm not saying it needed to be boiling hot coming out, but I would've appreciated it a bit warmer in temp. It's pricey compared to OC, back home, but I'm guessing because of the location? Not sure.
