Tom Yum Soup was creamy and delicious.
    Craig W.

There is a weird psychological phenomenon where the closer you are to something interesting, the less likely you are to visit it. There are people who probably live five miles from the Grand Canyon who have never seen it and probably think they will get around to seeing it one of these days. And then they die or move and never see it. I realize it is just a bit of a minor stretch to compare a Thai restaurant with the Grand Canyon but here we are. I have driven by this restaurant, sometimes multiple times a day, probably a thousand times in my life. I have heard many good things. I have just never visited until now. It is beautiful inside. The decor is gorgeous. The lighting is excellent. There is live music (in fact, very good live music during our visit). They have an insane happy hour, every day, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., I believe. There is a happening bar scene, if that is your thing. The food is solid. We tried the Tom Yum soup with chicken added (th soup was very coconut-y and creamy), the Pad Thai with shrimp (delicious), and the red curry with shrimp (also, delicious). The portion sizes were generous. The Thai iced coffee was very nice. My martini was fine. The chicken in the soup was not, in my opinion, of the highest of highest quality. And the martini, which was very normal sized (and I am talking about martinis, not anything else), was a very painful and un-normal-sized $19. That hurt a little bit. Service was friendly and homey and wonderful. Our water glasses were constantly re-filled and we were constantly checked up on. This is a delightful, lively restaurant and it has a lot to offer (decor, music, food, service, atmosphere). I am ashamed it has taken be far too long to visit. And, for what it is worth, I have visited the Grand Canyon, even though I live nowhere near it, and it is also wonderful. Also, unlike at Thai One On, there is no Thai food available at the Grand Canyon, so keep that in mind.

TomKah with shrimp is the way to go Hot and perfect for this overcast and Raining California kind of day. I tried all the appetizers so you don't have to. Each course that came did not disappoint as our palate reached nirvana with each and every bite we took. I ordered the pork schnitzel as my main course while my partner succumbed to his eyes that were drawn to the ingredients of the seabass. We both shared squash soup and a separate plate of grilled square shaped potatoes that were a perfect pairing we devoured with satisfaction. Dessert came as a surprise, as we were served not one but two desserts - the latter was an added thoughtfulness, acknowledging my partner's birthday. The taste was divine! The bill totaled at just a little over $100, which we expected for this fine dining experience. Oh yes, we plan to return - even way before the next birthday. In the meantime, happy eats everyone and hope to see around town.

There was a long line - this place is so popular - but thankfully the line didn't take very long. The wait in the line was a good amount of time to give me the chance to take a look at the menu before ordering so I didn't mind it at all! It was easy to order at the restaurant. Grab our order number and find a seat and just wait for the food to come out. I was worried the food would take a while because so many people were there. The food came quickly, so there was no issue. I got a bivuoac berry cider which was delicious and very drinkable. I opted for some clam chowder, rocket salad, and the seafood curry as well. The clam chowder was delicious and creamy. Not TOO rich and not too salty. The rocket salad was pretty standard. I don't order any fish with it since I was ordering so many items already and I didn't want to be too full! Just wanted to add some veggies to my meal. The seafood curry had some great flavor. I was a bit surprised that the curry was more of a soup consistency. I was expecting a thicker and more saucy consistency but it was still good. I think it could've been a bit more flavorful. I liked the fish, shrimp, and veggies in the curry and I loved that they cooked the fish perfectly. It was nice and soft and had a delicious char on it. Overall, great meal and I thought the meal was decent value. Expected to come back and try more menu items.

It's light and perfectly cooked, and the fries were a really nice contrast without feeling too heavy. The IPA was also excellent and paired well with the food. Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling overly indulgent. Casual, consistently good, and clearly a local favorite for a reason. We'll absolutely be back next time we're in the area.

Even though we hadn't stopped at Mia's for that celebration, the staff brought out something special anyway, which was very much appreciated. As for the food, I can recommend the octopus, oysters, and scallop ceviche. Fresh seafood, fresh flavors, a nice balanced blend. The margaritas were delicious, closer to a craft tequila cocktail than a bar margarita.

I grabbed an Uber after work on a Thursday and headed north 11 miles. As I arrived at the Fish Shop, I could smell the goodness inside and saw the line waiting to order. The restaurant is on one side, with an open bar on the other. Ordering is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Pick your fish, pick how you want to consume it (plate, sandwich, salad), and pick your sides and drink. I went with my work colleagues recommendation of a blackened sea bass sandwich with onion rings and a Marg. That choice was FANTASTIC!!! You seat yourself once you order and place the buzzer given to you by the counter person on the unit on your table. Although busy, there were still tables available (bar and restaurant, plus out front). As the NBA playoffs were on, I sat inside. Everyone working here was friendly and as I already stated... my meal was the best I had on this San Diego visit. A bonus was a gorgeous sunset just 3 blocks down from the shop. I moved to North County and a few years later they opened Encinitas fish shop. I have been for the oysters in the past but it had been a long time. I looked it up to make sure they still had oyster night and sure enough they do. The price is now $1.25 but that still feels like a good deal. They had 4 different types to choose from. There was only about 7 people in front of me when I got in line including a family. There was an older couple ordering and it took about 20 minutes for them to complete their transaction. The rest of the line moved ok after they were done, but I probably waited about 40 minutes just to order. I ordered 3 of each kind, a dozen. Then I went to get water. They were out of ice. I sat in the window seating and waited. It took a bit, but it was a nice day so I didn't mind too much. A girl came out calling names but it was very difficult to hear her. I finally heard my name and she dropped off my oysters. I asked for more cocktail sauce and she left to get it. She brought it back but immediately left and never told me which oysters were which. I had to flag down another employee and he told me which oysters were which. In the past, I haven't liked some of the choices, but this time they had a whole different selection and I liked all of them! They were so good and fresh. I don't know why I waited so long to return. I'll definitely be back for more soon!

IT'S NOT THE PLACE IS USED TO BE. I gave up over a year ago ordering the whole broiled artichoke which used to be amazing but is now is always small, tough and burned. The sand dabs I ordered last night were mushy, greasy and tasteless. The Parmesan 'crust' was soggy. I had to ask the bartender 4 times for lemons (none came with the dish) because she would only give me 2 tiny slices at a time - perhaps they are being rationed due to Strait of Hormuz related supply chain issues? It's possible the sourdough bread is being rationed now as well. IT'S NOT THE PLACE IT USED TO BE In the past this restaurant was lively with all kinds of fun and warm interaction between staff, regulars and tourists; now it is just hectic and loud. In the oyster bar area there are screens literally everywhere so the vibe is more sports bar-like than the vibe of a quality oyster bar. I no longer trust the quality of the food (i.e. I suspect seed oil based butter-like substances are being used instead of real butter) and I no longer enjoy the staff who's attention is robotic rather than warm and welcoming. Unfortunately there is no seating or anywhereto really go (except to stand outside) if your table isn't ready and the bar is full. I ordered an espresso martini, which i will say was one of the better ones I've had. It was so good i got 2. When our table was ready, we were seated outside facing the water, and it was beautiful, and so peaceful. This is what made the restaurant experience for me. I'd go back just for the view. We ordered the sushi to start, and since i love coconut shrimp, I went for the sunshine roll. It was very good and not too sweet, even though it had mango, macadamia and sweet chilli. This was my favorite part of the meal, although the price was steep at $27 for the one roll! We also ordered a half order of the sourdough bread, but the gave us a whole one since they were busy and we had to wait a bit. The bread was very good and chewy, but the outside edges were a bit tougher. I had leftovers and it toasted very well the next day. Fur my entree I decided on the plum ginger braised shortrib. It was very tender and had a nice mild flavor. Not the best I've had but still good. It came with shredded Brussels which were fine. The potatoes kind of the me for a loop and the were supposed to be augratin with jalapeno and cheddar, but i didn't taste any of that. I probably wouldn't order this again.
