    staff: always friendly. service: always greeted quickly. They bring tea and water to table pretty quickly also. Orders are taken and come out relatively quick. establishment: great parking. Booths and tables. Great spot on the north side! food: great bun no hue (even the kids eat it with 'less spice') and their vermicelli bowls are great also. Our go to appetizers are the green onion cakes, salad rolls and spring rolls.

    Food and service is good as usual. They greet you quite quickly, take on your order and your food comes out within 15 minutes even if the restaurant is packed full. The ambiance is very generic

    My favourite place to eat pho. The broth is complex in flavour and is very delicious! I also enjoy the green onion cake and salad shrimp rolls. The restaurant is nicely decorated. There are options for booths or tables. The ambience is great for enjoying a meal. The condiment/sauces you need are right at the table, as well as chopsticks, soup spoons and napkins. The table service is usually prompt in getting our orders and serving our meals. There are times when they are very busy. My main complaint is that I wished they had more than one person dealing with the cash/card machine. Sometimes it takes longer to line up and pay for our meal than to actually eat our meal! The lineups can get a bit ridiculous. If they would improve their efficiency in processing payment of meals, this place would be earn my five star rating! If the food wasn't so good I would opt to eat elsewhere!

    I always come to Pho Hoan Pasteur and always blown away by the delicious pho! The broth was flavorful and the meat was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this spot if you're in the mood for some delicious pho! The pork chop and rice dish was juicy and tender, and the rice has a nice texture. If you're a fan of pork chops, I definitely recommend giving it a try and lastly the shrimp salad rolls are a must try with their house made peanut sauce. The service was quick and friendly.

    Easy to find via Google Maps. Lots of parking right in front of the restaurant. 20% full Thursday at 12PM. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit. Booths are really comfortable and the temperature of the place was great. Waiter was efficient but not too friendly. I tried #49 the 5 color vermicelli bowl. Beef skewer was definitely the chewiest of the 3 but nice flavor. Chicken and pork were so tender. 2 shrimp skewer was a nice protein addition. Deep fried spring roll outside was crisp and perfect but I found the center ?pork was a bit mushy. Vegetables (carrot, cucumber, bean sprouts) was great mix. Sauce was also nice and light. Vermicelli was perfectly cooked and already ?cut-up so no really long noodles to awkwardly eat. Overall, very happy with this. Only ate 60% of this (mostly due to time restraint) so I have lunch tomorrow too! Friend got the green onion cakes and 1 pork skewer. She, like I, agree that the onion cakes were not the best green onion cakes we have ever had but they were big, fluffy, and tasty. Quite pricey for an appetizer. She also got the Vietnamese Iced coffee with condensed milk. This was super fun as the coffee came still brewing out of the tiny drip contraption and she got a giant milkshake glass full of ice. She loved the flavor. Other friend also got #49 and really liked it and the sauce. No desserts which was kind of disappointing. Overall very happy with my lunch and would come again.

    One of the Pho's I've had. Beef Satay Pho, was nicely seasoned, not too much tomato paste. Great. Also friendly service, nice restaurant.

This is one of my favourite vietnamese places for soup and appetizers. The rice and vermicelli dishes are mediocre in comparison so make sure to order what they specialize in. If I come with a big group I like to order as many appetizers as possible as it's similar to vietnamese street foods like crepes, tapioca dumplings and deep fried goodies. All of it is authentic and delicious. My must orders here are the duck salad and soup combo. It's what I come here for as no other place in edmonton has it on the menu that I know of. And it's pretty darn delicious. If I don't get that. The bun bo hue is loaded with so many meats that I never can finish it! I can't wait to go back to this locally owned business run by a family. Although service is not the greatest. They do provide whatever you need if you ask for it. They definitely won't bother you when you visit here. As most people just eat quick and leave. The menu is very typical of Vietnamese noodle houses, featuring a good selection of pho noodle soup, vermicelli noodle bowls, and rice dishes. I opted for a bowl of pho with medium sliced beef and brisket. My soup was full of meat which was reasonably tender and lean, and came in a broth that was well-seasoned. Colleen, my co-Volunteer Coordinator, ordered a bowl of Thai spicy pho, and she ordered it without any meat. She was happy with the flavour of her soup and its abundance of noodles. I started with a green onion cake, finding the two large rings of fried dough and green onions to be large and not too greasy, as well as a bit cheaper than I've had elsewhere. I also decided to do something I rarely do when I order pho - even though I find the complimentary green tea and broth from the soup to be more than enough liquid intake for one meal, I decided to try one of the iced drinks. Being a dreary winter day I felt some extra vitamin C was in order, and opted for a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was incredibly fresh and full of pulp - I literally felt like I was drinking an orange in liquid form. Prices are in line, if not lower, than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Our entire meal, which also included a can of pop for Colleen, cost less than $25 before the tip. Service was fast and friendly and neither of us had any complaints about the food. Winter is the perfect time for a steaming bowl of pho, so consider heading to Viet Huong.

We've got it all. And it's the best of the best. XO Bistro + Bar throws their name into the ring with a more elevated and modern Vietnamese dining experience, demonstrating that there's a sophisticated side to Viet food that demands representation as well. VUE Weekly loved this restaurant and named them #1 Best Vietnamese, #1 Best Late Night/All Night, and #1 Best Happy Hour in 2018. First opened in 2017 and now with two locations, I visited the original Downtown spot on a Saturday evening, anxiously anticipating the symphony of flavours ahead. XO Bistro is in good company on Edmonton's famous boardwalk street which is lined with a collection of many popular restaurants. The parking is a nightmare and the small handful of street parking spots always seem to be taken. But you'll figure it out. With its proximity to the ICE District you can easily imagine that this restaurant has been able to take advantage of the pre-game dinner crowd and post-game spillover from the Moss Pit. The restaurant is larger than you might imagine, with its soaring second-storey ceiling and filled with dark moody finishes and an impressive bar completing the lounge vibe. However, the real show-stopper is the life-sized cherry blossom tree right in the entranceway, covered in pink blossoms. This tree serves as a major focal point and it's difficult to take your eyes off of it! The servers are cheerful and friendly, and although there were no window tables available we were seated comfortably. Priding themselves on their cocktail program, I knew that an XO Original was a must and soon I found the Good Morning Vietnam (Gin, Soho, hibiscus, lime juice, lychee puree - $15.00) in my hand. A cocktail to match the restaurant perfectly! I loved that this beverage was fresh and fruity and wasn't too strong. Pretty and drinkable, the sweet flavour of lychee took the lead while tart notes from the lime and hibiscus leveled the beverage out. Without a doubt, the correct drink to sip on under the blush-hued blooms! XO Bistro's goal is to serve food that isn't always traditional but is always authentic. Bold, balanced flavours inspired by the everyday energy of Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Da Nang. The liveliness and fresh takes are apparent on the menu right away and I was excited to order some dishes that felt new. Starting with appetizers, the Double Trouble (Rice paper, shrimp, lettuce, vermicelli, tangy fish sauce. Choice of pork or veggie spring roll - $11.25) stood out as something fun to try. Can't choose between a spring roll or a fresh roll? Get both! I loved this playful version and especially enjoyed getting to eat two types of rolls instead of just one! We chose the pork spring roll for the inside and I loved the textural crunch and juicy pork that it provided. Meanwhile, the outside was wrapped in rice paper, acting as a window to the shrimp enveloped within. Dunking each bite into the zippy fish sauce added just the right acidity. Wonderfully tasty, so much fun to eat, and striking presentation to boot! Another item that really caught my eye was the Bone Marrow (Roasted bone marrow, panko crust, toasted baguette, pâté - $19.00). A dish that I love but only come across seldomly. Now this was a dish that I certainly did not expect. But boy did I love it! Roasting the marrow topped with a crust of seasoned panko was inspired - a genius way to add texture (and more flavour) to an otherwise fairly gelatinous ingredient. Bread is such a huge component to Vietnamese cuisine (think bánh mì) because of the French colonization in the 1800s. The Viet people then proceeded to transform this bread into a completely new, localized culinary staple. The baguette at XO Bistro was absolute fresh, housemade(?) perfection. Crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. I loved slathering the bread with ample amounts of delicious pâté (another "gift" from the French) and then topping it all off with spoonfuls of rich bone marrow. Each bite exemplified decadence and I reveled in it. This might very well have been the best bone marrow preparation that I've ever had. Vietnamese food might be one of the earlier examples of fusion cuisine, and while colonization sucks the food admittedly does not. XO Bistro provides everything that you know and love in terms of main dishes; from bánh mì to phở (there's even a "phở challenge" where if you eat an obscenely-sized bowl in 45 minutes you get a prize) to bún. The server states happy hour is over despite it clearly stating it is until 7pm on the menu. I point to the board and he says it's full price. Whatever. I don't like misrepresentation on menus. And discrepancys are misleading. For this I minused a star. Service was haphazard. I seated myself. Got my own condiments and even got my own drinks. I had to go to the counter to order my food and pay at the register. All the server did was put the food on my table and clean it up afterwards. The whole process downgraded the whole modern vibe to more of a cafeteria style establishment. I felt jipped tipping bc i basically served myself. So minus another star. Overall. The food was great. Slightly overpriced. But the atmosphere reflects the price in the heart of downtown. Service was okay but the whole happy hour misrepresentation was a huge turnoff. I decided to get the fried rice and a few items. I choose a chicken first and looked at the other items before deciding on the vegetables with cashews. The woman serving me had the rectangle take out container about 2/3 full and she kept suggesting food such as the green beans and then the sweet and sour pork. Both didn't look very appetizing. I think she was hoping I would pay for as much food to get rid of since the lunch time crowd had passed but she wasn't generous with the quantity. I decided on the beef skewer and then was done. At half price I paid $7.35. I brought the food home and heated it up. I liked the beef skewer but the rest of the food wasn't very good. The food tasted greasy and I had to use my fingers to eat the chicken was it had lots of bones. I'm not sure if it's from this food, but I didn't feel well after. Definitely would not pay $14 for the food I had as lots of other great restaurants around. It would probably be better to go during the lunch hour when the food is hot and fresh but I'll pass next time I'm in the area.
