From the parking lot I had high hopes. We found this place highly rated for the area and the strip mall filled with lots of other Asian businesses had me to believe that we had found a great place to get lunch. It was not the case. For $9, I expected that Vietnamese Iced coffee to be spectacular, instead it had me questioning if it was pre-made. The $17 vermicelli bowl, which I usually love in the summer because it is fresh and cool and light, came to my table with hot noodles, and consequently, cooked cucumbers. The pork was spongy in a way that I haven't experienced before. The spring rolls were the least offensive thing we ordered, but they were void of any flavor. Where are the fresh herbs?? I normally wouldn't even write a review for a small business like this, but this isn't good Vietnamese food and I hope to warn the next person driving south through Montgomery looking for a quick, light, flavorful, fresh meal. I ordered thru Uber eat for 2 items. When i picked up at the frontdesk, there was only 1. I called the store. The guy apologized and said he doesn't speak/read Vietnamese (i can speak English perfectly so if you cant speak or read Vietnamese, that wouldnt hurt me). He said he only see one item sent from UberEat. I worked in food industry and familiar with the tablets for UberEat and doordash, etc. So the chance he missed type my order is higher than technical issue with UberEat tablet. I thought the food and service here was very good. The server was very attentive and helpful throughout the meal. We ordered the spring rolls, combination noodle soup, vermicelli, and banh mi. I liked the rolls, the noodle soup portion was plentiful, and the vermicelli was tasteful. The only complaint I had was the banh mi was pretty pitiful. The atmosphere was phenomenal the family who runs the place was very nice. Talked to me and listen to everything I wanted, the broth was very flavorful. We have been twice since I've been craving different Vietnamese dishes. The prices are pretty high but I get it because I believe its 1 out of 2 Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Their Banh Mi was almost $10 when in Atlanta you can get the same sandwich for $3.50! It's good for what it is but I wouldn't get it again for the price. The spring rolls are fresh and their peanut sauce is pretty good. Good taste of hoisin sauce and peanut butter. The grilled pork slices with the noodle and rice dish is nicely cooked and marinated. The shredded pork skin has a weird after taste and we both were not a fan of it. I'm also used to getting a side of soup broth with your rice dish so disappointed they didn't do that. The fried egg rolls were good filled with ground pork, veggies, and vermicelli noodles. The service was pretty average, the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated on the walls. The cuisine is wonderful, fresh and so authentic. The Pho is very generous and comes in varieties to suit any taste. There are a wide choice of other Vietnamese dishes as well. I've been coming here to get my veggie pho since I was in middle school. The quality and service is always great. Today I came in and ordered the usual veggie pho with tofu. I also decided to add a taro bubble tea I was there. My food was done in 10 minutes and I had multiple bags and the waiter brought my bubble tea outside for me. The food always taste fresh, and the portions are pretty large for the price. Is VN Pho the best pho I've ever had? No. But is it probably the best pho in Montgomery, AL? Without a doubt. Located in a "transitional" shopping mall in the Southeast corner of the city, I use the word "transitional", because this mall is rapidly transforming into a place for all things Asian. There is an existing Korean BBQ joint, and a huge H Mart will soon be opening here also. For the uninitiated, think of H Mart as a super Korean grocery store...it's just too bad it wasn't open at the time of this review. But back to VN Pho. It is very reminiscent of the many Pho restaurants I've been too. Tile floors, orange booths, and nondescript tables and chairs are laid out in a spacious dining room where multiple TVs are tuned to local stations. As is my tendency, I ordered the large Pho Bac, or number 1 special which has pieces of well done flank, brisket, and other mixed meats such as tendon. When the steaming bowl arrived, I immediately took a sip to judge the broth before I added any lime or condiments since pho is ALL about the broth. First impressions of the soup were flavorful, but a bit on the salty side. I could definitely taste the brightness of star anise, subtle notes of cloves and garlic, and richness of beef bones that indicated the stock had been simmering for hours. Broth was a solid 3.25 - 3.5 stars and didn't need any sriracha or fish sauce for enhancement. Also kudos since this bowl of pho had a generous serving of the mixed meats. This is one of my main gripes with Pho places in the DC area. Generally I would say the broth of the pho joints in DC is better, they skimp on the meat, resulting in me paying $10 for a bowl of soup and noodles and not much else. Not here. The brisket and well done flank steak were plentiful. Also extra star awarded since there was a plethora of sauces to choose from. Skip the fish sauce and go straight for the house made chili oil. Pieces of red pepper flake and pieces of chili peppers are bathed in oil and salt, which makes for great dipping of the meat. Very tasty. If you're in Montgomery, AL and searching for some Vietnamese Noodle soup, VN Pho will satisfy that craving. read more

This is my second visit to VN Pho. My first experience was not very pleasant; I had the Pho Dac Biet, and the flavor was not there because it lacked authenticity. I gave VN Pho another chance because I was visiting my sister with my grandma, and growing up with Vietnamese food, I wanted to try something different on the menu to see if it was any better. I ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls and vermicelli with marinated grilled sliced pork and egg rolls. I always order Vietnamese egg rolls at every Vietnamese restaurant I go to because I like to taste the flavor differences at each place. When the egg rolls came out, it was fresh and crispy and hot enough where it can burn the roof of your mouth; nothing tastes better than chewing your life away to avoid the burning sensation. The combination of the egg roll dipping into the fish sauce was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend the egg rolls for appetizers. Next came out the vermicelli with marinated grilled sliced pork and egg rolls. At first, I was skeptical of it because of my first bad experience with their pho since it was also a noodle dish, but boy was I wrong. I poured the cup of fish sauce over the bowl and grabbed my first bite; it blew me away. The combination of the noodles, the savory sliced pork, and the crunchiness of the vegetables and egg roll was perfection. They gave a very generous amount of sliced pork and vegetables, but I wish I had saved my egg rolls appetizer and put them in the bowl as well; it only came with one egg roll, which wasn't enough for me. Overall, my second visit at VN Pho was a big improvement compared to the first experience. The reason it is a 4-star rather than 5 because the pho from the previous visit was not flavorful enough for my taste and the service is not the best; waiting for a water refill or the check can take a while. If you want authentic pho in Alabama, VN Pho is the place for you. By far, they have the best, authentic Vietnamese pho. When I recently moved here about a few years go, the service wasn't the greatest. There were times when I decided not to go even though I was craving pho because of the lack of customer service. They really did change a lot of things up though! The service upgraded, and the waiters/waitresses are much nicer (they are still the same people). The one downside is that they rose up a dollar or two for all their items on their menu. Prices are a bit more expensive than the price you'd find in Atlanta. But of course, it's because ATL has more competition, and Alabama doesn't really seem to have as much Vietnamese restaurants. If you are a first timer, I recommend you the pho. Their spring rolls and the peanut sauce that comes along are delicious. I don't really like the fried rice, but I've seen other people like it. Their vermicelli is worth a try also. Hubby and I tried this place for take out on our date night. Called at 1853 to place a takeout order, but due to the Corona, they said they are closing a bit earlier at 1900 which was not reflected online. Every time I go here, they have great customer service and serve food really quick either take out or dine-in. My favorite appetizer is the fresh spring roll with the peanut sauce. That's what I always look forward too because I love the peanut sauce. It's not too spicy and not too sweet. My choice for the main dish (if you don't feel like eating rice) are the vermicelli dishes with your choice of meat. I always get the chicken vermicelli dish. The prices are not bad and no reservation is needed not unless you are brining a huge party with you. So, if you want something quick on the go either heading home from work and don't feel like cooking, I recommend eating here.
