Pho ga (chicken pho) is ok. Ask for white meat chicken or you could get the leftover thigh. Broth is a little bland on its own so I spice it up a bit. I like the fresh spring rolls. Man friend likes the duck Pho - tasty and has a nice depth of flavor. We get delivery. Not a fan of the crab rangoons here. Beef teriyaki is chewy but has a nice flavor. read more

I would say I have moderate experience with Vietnamese cuisine, but I must say my dining experience here was delightful and has inspired me to want to return and try more items. Pho n' Rice is now my new go-to spot when i want to have good Thai and Vietnamese dishes around Somerville neighborhood. This small place offers inexpensive and tasty Vietnamese and Thai food, with fast service. I have always enjoyed their pho, duck noodle, drunken noodle (spicy saute noodle with basil), and have recently branded out to try some of their entrees (lobster rolls, vietnamese pancake, shrimp fresh rolls, etc). In summary: highly recommended! If you enjoy Vietnamese food along with Thai, or you're looking for something new to try, Pho n' Rice should not be missed. read more

This place is garbage. They do not know how to make Pho and worse, they don't know their own dishes. Husband went out in the pouring rain to Pho and Rice to get two orders (clearly said) of PHO TAI. Husband came back with two orders of Pho Chay which was watery, gross, not what we ordered, and then they had the NERVE to be attitudinal say "well you weren't clear." ( I was, I even said with the rare steak) and then they got salty. So I'm here to say this. Don't go here. There are other Pho places in the Boston Metro area that are SOOOOO much better, and EUREKA they actually understand their own menu. I would never want anyone who has ever read any review of mine prior to EVER waste their time here. Besides, they're not even 100% Vietnamese which is a problem here in Boston. Why is it in Boston that there is no respect for individual Asian culture? Viet cuisine is specific. I don't want to see Chinese Food Menu Appetizers on the menu. Got delivery from Pho 'n Rice and I loved it! You can take this review with a grain of salt because I've only had Vietnamese food a couple times before, but I really enjoyed the dishes my girlfriend and I tried! We split the pineapple fried rice and the bun thit nuong. We got crispy chicken on our fried rice which added a great taste and texture, and the veggies made what I usually think of as a heavy meal feel much lighter and fresher! The real winner was the bun thit nuong, which we got with beef covered in delicious crushed peanuts. This dish was also so light and fresh! I have eaten a lot of Pho in my life and this one by far is worth the money. Save yourself a trip trying Pho House and Le's in the Cambridge area and look no further than this place. It is quite modest, a neighborhood find, but their food is excellent. The service is a little uncommunicative but I can forget that with broth as rich as they have in their pho. Nothin fancy but will fix your cravings for asian food. I've ordered it a few times now and will continue to because of its convenience and average prices. The menu has a fusion of a bunch of asian cultures so you get your pick whether you're craving viet or thai (or maybe more??). I've had the pho for a hangover cure and it wasn't bad! I think ive had more flavorful broth but it was good enough. The tom yum fried rice and the roast pork chop rice platter are probably my favorite things I've gotten but I need to try more items on the menu. Some days, you just don't feel well. You don't want to leave the couch, never mind the house and cooking is completely out of the question. Speaking to another human being might even toe the doable line. On these days, you want soup and you want it delivered and you want to be left to your miserable, sneezing, stuffed up, red-eyed self. What I really wanted was ramen, but the only place that delivered to my 'hood, took credit cards and served Coca-Cola was Wagamama. First, that's not really ramen. Second, they charge a $25 minimum. Even with my head so cloudy by cold, I knew that was a bad decision. Enter Pho 'n Rice. Pho Ga. Shredded chicken noodle soup. Acceptably small $10 minimum. And they serve Coca-Cola. Sold. I quickly ordered a large, with egg ($2) and veggies ($2) and awaited my sickly salvation. The broth here is fantastic, but my complaints echo those of other yelpers: measly portion sizes for the noodles and chicken, plus the side order of vegetables was tiny too, with just a few slices of carrot, two peapods, a sliver of bell pepper and some onion. The soup rang in at a whopping $13, which is pretty overpriced for pho. Though it's undeniably tasty pho that I don't have to go to Chinatown to enjoy, chances are I won't be ordering from here that often. read more

I walked in with my darling Jessika for some one on one at Pho 'n Rice and was all set to order pho, honestly! I wanted and craved pho and being on my forever diet, it was the perfect thing for me. Then I saw Chicken Pad Thai and I crumbled. sigh..... Being that I craved and accepted said crave and crumble, I looked around and noticed it was a very serviceable restaurant. Not great in decor but not horrible either. There are stairs to go up into the dining area from the entrance which was odd but ok. We ordered an app of Gyoza which was a fried dumplings filled with mixture of chicken, pork and vegetables, served with ginger dipping sauce. Very flavorful, very crispy and hot!! Loved them! Oh sweet Pho. Cure for colds, hangovers, bad days.... However, sadly since leaving New Orleans I have not had a single bowl. Until now. I remember Pho 'n Rice from back in college when I first tried their Duck Noodle Soup, and I feel in love. Fast forward a few years, I am back in the area with a mean cold, and figuring why not try to recapture that first time? Totally worth it. Pho 'n Rice is in an unassuming spot next to a Star market, but man is it busy. Walking in at 8 PM on a Friday all the seats in the house were taken, and the front desk was packed with take out bags. Busy is always a good sign. They told us a 10 minute wait. No problem. Once seated we ordered quickly despite the huge menu. Food came out efficiently, and I was not disappointed with my Pho. Finally, Pho delivery that's SUPER fast, cheap, and yummy!!! I never actually been to the restaurant, but I had delivery a few times and imo this place is soooo much better than the alternative Le's in Harvard Sq. The lady said over the phone, "the food will be there in 15 minutes." I was sure I misheard it for 50 minutes. I don't know if this is their usual pace, but when delivery showed up in 15 minutes, I was stunned. OK this was early weekday night, please don't hold it against them if they don't come in 15 minutes for you, may depend on distance too...but geez, that was fast! And the soup was so hot, I did not have to reheat them like I do for other places! First of all, they make Bun Bo Hue, which Le's does not. Before I found out about this place, I had to go all the way to Woburn to get a decent bowl of Bun Bo Hue. And Bun Bo Hue in Chinatown's Pho Pasteur was just plain spicy and no flavor. This one has flavor, and is not too spicy, just the way I like it. I also tried duck noodle soup, Mi Hoanh Thanh, shrimp toast, fresh spring roll, and they were all very yummy. I love pho. My first experience hailed during grad school when I was stressed and run down from a mountain of homework and needed something comforting to make me feel better. Before yesterday I have only eaten pho in San Francisco at a place near my dorm. I ordered some last night because I was feeling run down from the holidays and needed a boost. It was really good. The broth was nice and hot, the veggies (carrots, onions, mushrooms, cucumbers, and broccoli) and noodles that accompanied it were out of this world. Everything had so many flavors. I ordered the veggie and a chicken pho for my mom. The only somewhat downside with the veggie pho is that it comes in chicken stock broth. So it's not 100% vegetarian. A medium, was quite large and was plenty. I imagine that a large would last for 2-3 meals, depending on how much a person eats. Overall very good pho. read more

I'm shocked by the low reviews. I did get pad thai delivered once that wasn't great, but then again, it's not a Thai restaurant. The times I've been to the restaurant I have loved my meal. I love the prices just as much. The summer rolls are the best I've had in Boston. Fresh, flavorful, perfect. And the pho. Man. I've had the chicken and the vegetable and they were both fantastic. Note: I have never been to the actual storefront, but I have ordered delivery many times. This is a pretty alright thai place in the area (Lemongrass Thai on Highland Ave is #1) and their food is flavorful and well made. They are very good with substitutions and omissions and every order has been spot-on. My gripes would be that the food is sometimes overcooked (the veggies are almost always totally soggy) and the tofu has been squishy with grease more than once. I am a fan of the drunken noodles (and they do a great job of omitting the bell peppers for me!) and if you want the most refreshing drink of all time get yourself a coconut water. It comes with slivers of young tasty coconut meat in it and is just mouth wateringly good coconut water. I frequently wish I had ordered a second or third glass of it when getting takeout. I wish I could give them a better review as the delivery has always been super fast and fresh but the cooking skills leave much to be desired (re: Mushy food, burnt food). read more

Really liked the pho at this place!! The service was only so-so in the restaurant, but the pho was generously sized and flavorful, and they even give you the option of adding extra veggies. Even better, when I ordered for delivery the next time, I requested that they put in some containers of hoisin and sriracha sauce, and they complied, so I was able to custom-make my bowl of pho just like if I was at a restaurant. The delivery was fast (within 15 minutes!!), and all the components of the soup were packaged separately. I've gotten delivery from here a few times and have been consistently impressed. It's not the fastest, but I'm okay with that. The food is fresh and tasty, and they don't use styrofoam containers! (I think styro containers make take-out/delivery sad, rather than a fun treat...but maybe that's just me) The delivery guys have been friendly, too. Prices and portions are good. Here's what we've tried: Wings appetizer - Yummy sweet chili dipping sauce Goi salad with tofu - Fresh and tangy, a teeny bit of spice - dressing contains fish sauce, fyi Basil fried rice w/chicken - Spicy, delicious, not greasy Pho tai (beef broth w/rare steak), white noodles - YES. Ingredients all separately packaged so you can mix it up to your taste. Green curry w/tofu - mild is still pleasantly spicy Tofu and veggies w/garlic sauce - Perfectly cooked veggie assortment: carrots, zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, onion, green beans. Garlic sauce comes on the side. It's a tad-bit oily, but just stir it up and you'll be fine! I would eat the sauce on rice for breakfast, but that might just be the Asian half of me talking. I don't like delivery minimums or fees, but they're just part of the delivery scene. Plus I would gladly order more food to meet the minimum - great leftovers! read more

Unfortunately, this place has no consistency on the quality of their food. We were also a little disappointed at the service last time we went there. The place was completely empty of other costumers, and yet, the server managed to forget to give us napkins, chopsticks, and Chinese spoons, it happens, I know... In regards to the food...pho was fresh and tasteful, but the lemon for the pho was so dry, we couldn't squeeze a drop out of it, as if they had been cut open for days. We also ordered Steamed Dumplings and Pork Chops for appetizers - the Dumplings were "okay" in comparison to the ones we had before when we were there, but the Pork Chops were the worst, they were so chewy and dry we couldn't eat it. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWWWWWWWWWWW! I tried something new and LIKED it! What? What was the something new? SUMMER. ROLLS. Eaten on a perfect day in May, there was a taste of summer in the air and definite delicious taste of summer in my summer roll. I get the tofu summer roll and the peanut sauce that was a little spicy was perfect! I also got steamed veggies and tofu (too many onions) but I still ate the rest of it and they have excellent steamed white rice. Honest to god, most places do not have good steamed white rice, normally it's undercooked or overcooked and clumpy. No, no. Not at Pho 'n Rice. Not here. I am happy this is walking distance from me at work and they cater and will deliver to my home. Cannot wait to try the pad thai and Pho (never really had Pho). I am really looking forward to it! It was... aiiight. Hard to do both a Viet & Thai restaurant both good and right. Or maybe, we just had too ginormous an appetite for the restaurant chef to be able to keep up with... The goods: staff was nice & friendly. The chicken satay was made right. The pho was alright. Pretty standard. The Thai curry dishes were good. Pad Thai was reasonable. The bads: Thai food? Really? Tom Yum Soup broth was a little off.. A little too heavy on the sour. The Pad See You was... bland. But, at least don't have to worry too much about MSG overload. (I would hope.) Papaya salad was ok. I took myself out to lunch here the other day and I'm looking forward to going back with more people. I had the Bun Bo Hue (Lemongrass noodle soup, the special rice vermicelli beef lemongrass broth with steak and tendon). The soup came out pretty quickly and I enjoyed it. It was spicy but tolerable. I would've preferred leaner cuts of steak in the soup but maybe that's where the taste comes from...so, what do I know? Service: There was only one waiter and there were several tables during the lunch rush but he handled it really well and was very attentive. This place has been on our Radar for quite some time. Although we set out for Sushi, we ended up here. So glad we did. It is a very small place and VERY quiet. This may prove to be a problem for someone like myself, but I was well behaved. The prices are on point and their food is delicious. They have a huge variety of both Thai and Vietnamese. I suggest the Vietnamese Crepe. It was amazing! So much so, I was going to attempt to re-create it. You try calling places to see if they have Mung Beans. It didn't work out. Also, try the pho - the portions are HUGE. I think we got the medium and it was way too much. I got mine with the egg dropped in and Siaracha'd the shiat out of it......SO good. Last year I was obsessed with tacos but this year, 2010, is the year of Pho. My Pho obsession started with Pho Pasteur in China town. It's super tasty and close to my 9 to 5 so it became my go-to take out place. But this doesn't really help me when I need Pho close to Inman square. Thus my love for Pho 'n Rice was born. Granted, I didn't dine-in, instead I ordered a delivery of Vegetable Pho with Chicken broth and Bangkok Paradise for my man. The Pho was a respectable $9 or so (I ate it for dinner then lunch the next day). The Bangkok (I was told) was good, and quite spicy but kind of crazy at $14 a pop. It did come with a heaping portion of delicious, nutty brown rice, which I did try and really liked. I can honestly say the Pho here is as good as Les and Pho Pasteur - if not better. The only issue I have is that they don't provide enough basil. Pho Pasteur gives me an entire basil branch with my meal so it's hard to top that. Oh and....I'm sure this was a crazy accident, but a very hot pepper was accidentally added to my Pho and I bit into it without realizing it (mostly because I slurp down my Pho like a crazy woman on crack) and it lit my whole mouth on fire. It was so bad that tears were running down my face and my tongue almost fell off. Amazingly though I forgive them and will still order the Pho....but this time I'll watch out for stray peppers. read more

I live about 10 minutes away on foot from Pho and come here practically twice a week, whether to just pick up some meaty and tasty chicken wings (not the most exotic item on the menu, but definitely of quality) or to come and have an intimate meal in the small dining area. The atmosphere when dining there has always been so calm and friendly, I always leave feeling better than when I went in. Cheap, easy, accessable (near porter sq& back side of harvard). Try it! Can you get better Pho in Chinatown? Yes. Can you get better Pho delivered piping hot directly to your doorstep when your heat is on the fritz in the middle of a snowstorm? I have no idea, but always remember to tip extravagantly when attempting this move. I've ordered delivery from here a good half a dozen times now, and have yet to be disappointed. Always the same, tofu spring rolls and Tai Pho, extra spicy. I have yet to venture outside of this magical combination, but I'm a woman of routine. The Pho here is solid, and though the broth does occasionally need a quick reheat in the microwave, it rarely needs an additional Sriracha injection. Overall, solid joint. Exactly what it should be. Brought a friend here as a thank-you for helping me move, and the food was so good that I came back two weeks later by myself. We ordered a huge pile of food, including chicken pad thai, choo chee salmon, green curry, and something else that I don't remember. Everything was great, but the choo chee salmon was really top-notch. They are great about telling you what's in everything and were able to leave the fish sauce out of the green curry. As noted by others, the soundtrack is hilarious but the ambience is nice otherwise. They were also happy to let us sit and drink tea and talk until a half hour after closing. As part of the epic eating fest that was Pete's birthday, he wanted to go out for pho too. We ended up at Pho n Rice because -is the only Vietnamese place in Somerville and it was within walking distance of our apartment. That's one of the good things about this place -it's really cheap -it has pho Supposedly you can have pho delivered but he wanted to have all the spicy sauces and toppings at hand, so we ventured out in the wind and rain. We shared the tofu delight, which was unlike any deep-fried tofu I'd ever had before. Somehow they managed to fry the tofu so that the outside was completely dry, airy, and crispy, yet the inside was steaming hot and silky smooth. It was good, but not what I was expecting. Since I was still full from the breakfast we had just had, I had a small bowl of pho bo vien, soup with meatballs, while Pete got the traditional dac biet, with steak and tripe and tendon and all that beefy goodness. The service is fast, though not the friendliest, and the portions were solid, even in the small size, which I had ordered. The broth could've used more cilantro, and the meat balls weren't the best I had, but Pete was happy with the level of meat in his, with all the spicy sauces he could add. I guess this is an okay fall-back if I have a serious craving for pho but don't want to haul my ass to Chinatown. read more

I've never had pho before, but I've also never been treated so well by a restaurant while waiting for my take-out food. It was cold out and it was going to be a 15-minute wait for my food. I got the Bun Bo Hue. As I sat down in the only chair before the cash register, one of the staff asked me if I'd like any water or tea while I waited. I couldn't believe it and gratefully accepted a cup of tea since it was so brisque outside. I am so amazed, I just can't get over it, and feel I will be making this my new go-to place! Sorry for 1 star, but until they get take-out/delivery together, this is all they deserve--dine in is three star easily though. The food here is generally very good. The quail appetizer is not to be missed. The pho is very good, and the fresh ingredients accompannying it are very good. Similarly, the Basil Fried Fish and the Bo Luc Lac are also very very good. However, they have messed up several take out and delivery orders--often using white rice when asking for brown, but a few times they have included vegetgables that we asked them exculde (carrots and mushrooms). Though these dont afftect us severely, we have at least one friend who is deathly allergic to corriander, among other herbs, and this kind of carelessness does not want to make us bring her or anyone else here. Bottom line is, the take out/delivery is not consistent and needs to be improved drastically. Ultimately, dining in here is a nice experience, even though it may come off as being more of a take-out place. A great nearby spot for pho, and the offering of local Vietnamese dishes is nice (such as pork chop and egg and rice), but if you want Thai food, check out Ronnarog in Union Sq. read more

Had a day off and thought it might be nice to order food in instead of cooking or going out. This place had great reviews and a low minimum delivery price, so I thought I'd try it out. I ordered the chicken pad thai and a thai iced tea. The tea was fine, a bit watery but it's a New England Summer, ice doesn't stay ice for long. The pad thai, however, was terrible. I ordered it spicy and it was not only lacking spice, but flavor entirely. The strongest flavor in the entire dish were the bean sprouts. Not only was the meal bland, but the delivery took over an hour. I would not recommend this to anyone. I was hoping to enjoy a nice spicy meal and instead all I am thinking about now is what I can make tomorrow to finally satisfy my craving for spicy food. We ordered steamed shumai as an appetizer and both got medium bowls of Pho Dac Biet. Shumai was good with a great ginger soy dipping sauce. The portion of pho was plenty for me, I usually will get a small and eat EVERYTHING- the small here would've probably been good enough too, but after experiencing small portions at Le's I was a little wary. The pho broth was a little sweeter than I'm used to but was still very good. The flank/tripe/tendon wasn't as tender as the stuff at my favorite SF joint, but boyfriend remarked on how flavorful the flank was. I liked that they put a ton of onion slices in the broth (I LOVE onions). The waiter even brought me a small side of cilantro when he saw me hoarding the cilantro from the dumplings (I also love love cilantro in my pho).
