Came here on a rainy weekday. Place is a bit tight but we were seated quickly. Server was friendly but was to the point. What we swallowed: #24: RARE BEEF AND FLANK PHO: The broth was tasty. Everything you expect out of a pho. #25: BEEF STEW: This was really good. Not too salty and very hearty. TARO BUBBLE TEA: Not too sweet and no ice chunks, which is a good thing. The egg rolls and shrimp pork spring rolls are delicious! I even got to try half of a pork Vietnamese sandwich and it was pretty good. The first time I came here I tried a simple egg soup of some sort. It was inexpensive and it was okay. The oils in it were a bit too thick and made my stomach gurgle and I felt a bit dizzy. The second time I showed up with a friend and he and I loved our meals. He got a meal with meat and rice and I ate the pork and shrimp spring rolls. The meat was a bit dry but as soon as you put that delicious sweet brown sauce on it everything turns to yummy gold savoury food. It also made the sandwich delicious. +.5 for service This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Winnipeg. However I wouldn't come here for Pho (Viva's better for that IMO). I'd come here for any of the pork noodle soup offerings, as well as the beef stew/satay offerings. In my most recent visit I had the sa te with rare beef rice noodle soup. Their satay is quite spicy, so keep that in mind. However it's very flavourful, and as mentioned in my opinion one of the best in the city in terms of expanding beyond your typical Pho options. Ambience is quite dark inside, lots of dim lighting. Regardless it's still a great place for a warm bowl of noodle soup on a cold day. Service is excellent here. Definitely recommend this place for some slightly off the road Vietnamese food. read more

The last time I ate to this place was 10 years ago because I moved to another province. Today Before visiting my family in Winnipeg I stopped by and ate to Pho no. 1! I ordered the usual food and I did not get disappointed because the food is still amazing just like how I remembered 10 years ago. The Owner and his son still remembers me after those years that they did not see me. This is very heartwarming and I'm touched! Every loyal customer that I saw today left the place very satisfied and greeted the owners happily. Keep up the good work guys and I'll be back again! They deserve 5 star! read more

Great little Vietnamese gem near downtown Winnipeg. Prices are exceptional and food quality is 100% Whenever we are in Winnipeg we try and come here The Pho is amazing and the menu features a number of varieties. I like the rare beef and tripe (#20) while the lovely wife likes vermicelli bowls with shrimp. Salad rolls are always a great appetizer and the shrimp and pork is great. It is normally a great sign of how good a place is that you find a constant line up waiting for a table. Indeed there was just such a line up on a Friday evening, the only problem being there is no where to stand. Between dodging the servers trying to get to the table, people trying to pay their bills and squeezing in when another group comes in helps you work up an appetite. We were told about a 15 minute wait and that turned out to be accurate, so that was good. While standing there ducking and weaving all the traffic flow, the hostess gives you a menu, an order sheet and a pen. A smile would have been nice but not tonight(ever?) And heaven forbid if you have a question, especially when they are busy. All very transactional, nothing very personable. Once seated and I had put in our order, it was quite a wait for our appetizers. We did get our waters right away but if you want a refill, don't expect the staff to notice. You have to do the work. The dish of the night was the breaded shrimp with sweet and sour sauce (#94). The batter was light, the shrimp were tender and hot. A big 'yum' all around. The vegetarian salad rolls (#142) were nicely done, crisp veggies and a generous portion size. For our mains, three of us went for #58, the spicy coconut vermicelli soup. It looked great but the broth was thin on flavour, not spicy as advertised and thin pickings when it came to the vermicelli and chicken. #149, the vegetarian coconut tom yum soup was filled with veggies but once again, the broth a bit thin on flavour. The 'extra' dish, #114, hot & spicy chicken with lemon grass was a complete miss. Nice and hot, but lacking flavour, no spice and barely a hint of the lemon grass. The other biggie with this dish goes back to the problems when filling out your own order. Be specific! I had crossed out this dish and switched to another but, I had not done as thorough a job of putting lines through the number #114 on the order sheet. They assumed I had just crossed out my note beside the number. A simple misunderstanding but I can't help but wonder why they did not ask. And that goes to the one consistent shortfall, service. Yes they are fast, yes they are busy, but not a hint of engagement with the customer. As I mentioned before, it's all transactional. Good value, even better if there was more depth of flavour in the soups. We would try them again but maybe not a busy night to see if there is a difference with the food and the service. read more

This place has amazing pho, honestly some of the best in the city. People were nice not too over bearing, could have been a little quicker but honestly it didn't matter. I use to live in the DC area and they have awesome Vietnamese food. The food in DC was even better than places in Asia (Korea, Japan). I lived there also. I was super excited to try Pho in Winnipeg due to the fact that there are Vietnamese people actually cooking Vietnamese food like in DC. I ran into a Vietnamese lady at an Asian grocer and she told me to go here. The pho was half decent. The place itself set me off big time. It is just very dirty. Everything from the floor to the light fixtures seems to never have been cleaned or dusted. If the place is this dirty, imagine what the kitchen looks like. read more

Came while on a particularily bitterly cold night and warmed up with their combination pho, which includes tripe, tendons, and all the good stuff. Picky boyfriend was more than satisfied with the grilled chicken and vegetable spring rolls. Love the food at this restaurant, and usually do take out orders. The menu is extensive, and everything I've had has been terrific. Most of the staff are great, though there is one woman who can be ... difficult. (That's where they lost the star.) Clean, comfortable decor. Not fancy, but far above a dump. Some Winnipeg residents would worry about the area, but I would put that to rest for the hours the restaurant is open. read more

The prices are low and the food is delicious! The only downside to this place is that it can get craaazy busy during the lunch rush, so go just before noon if you can. The staff are not all fluent in english, so really READ the menu and don't be afraid to try something new.
