First time having pho in Canada! It definitely doesn't taste the same as the pho places in SGV/LA areas. We ordered the Pho Tai & Pho Tai Nam. The broth wasn't that good and the meats were alright. Service wasn't great either. The place was kinda empty when we arrived, but people started coming in after. It was snowing outside so pho was a good choice. read more

This has long been a favourite place of mine, because the food is SO good and despite the indifferent verging on rude service. However... my low tolerance for filth won't allow me to eat there again. Between the absolutely filthy napkin dispensers (the kind of dirt you can feel as well as see), the food-splashed walls and stained ceiling tiles, the soy sauce bottle caked with various kinds of food smears, the substandard restroom, and the totally disgusting string mop that was leaning against a table (creating a trip hazard as well as an appetite suppressant), I had already apologized to my dining companions -- but the floating objects in the water after the waiter refilled my glass were the cherry on top. I am sorry, but this is completely unacceptable. I have to give it three stars because the food is good. But when the outward facing part of a restaurant is this obviously filthy what hope can remain for the kitchen? Sadly, none. read more

This place is small but BOY DOES THE PHO SOUPS ROCK HERE! My friend and I ordered soups and we both loved our choices. He had number 24, the medium rare beef & beef ball rice noodle soup. I chose number 32, the deluxe seafood rice & egg noodle soup. The waitress didn't really speak English so she didn't fully understand me when I told her I wanted number 32 with seafood only because I was not sure if there were other meats in it. When my soup came to me it was definitely full of seafood but without the rice and egg. But honestly it doesn't matter because this seafood pho soup had a ton of seafood items and delicious white noodles! I love how much stuff this meal has. I've been to other Vietnamese places that have more expensive soups but not a lot of noodles in them which is sad. While my friend and I waited for our soups I tried the Plum Juice Nhu restaurant has. This plum drink I think is pretty much made from real plums. At the bottom of the drink there are plum seeds. The taste is so different and unique. It's sweet and salty and a little tad bit sour. I wish I could order it in a large fountain drink style, it's that yummy! I'll surely be back to try more soups :) read more

+.5 for service I personally found this place just okay, not the best pho place I went to in Winnipeg unfortunately. Came here after hearing some excellent reviews on Nhu Quynh, to the point that it rivals Pho Hoang and Pho Kim Tuong (the latter being one of my favs in the city). First thing I noticed however was that the menu isn't as extensive as the other two places...which could be a good thing if the quality was there. I had the satay beef noodle soup. The food came out pretty quick, which I really liked. The broth looked and tasted very filling, however I can tell the noodles were not good. They were either undercooked or not of high quality, as the noodles were more crunchy than silky smooth. The beef was good, which somewhat made up for the disappointment in the noodles. Service was very good. For $8+tax it is on the lower end of the price scale, hence why I gave it 3.5 stars. However this place is a case of "you get what you pay for", especially given the pho competition in this city. read more

The Bun Bo Hue is a must if you can tolerate a little bit of heat! There was a bountiful amount of tender beef, and had just the right proportion of meat to noodles to spices to onions. The broth was delicious and not too salty. The fried spring rolls were crispy and mouthwatering, too! They're an excellent value at $6.25 for 6 rolls! The regular beef pho tasted fine, but the broth was a little bit on the sweet side. I would highly recommend this place for the BBH and spring rolls! read more

Nhu Quynh is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in the city. I have frequented the place for years with both family and friends. The interior looks much like your typical Vietnamese restaurants. All the food here is really good, such as the vermicelli noodle dishes (bun), beef noodle soup (pho), and broken rice dishes (com tam). Price wise, it's not too expensive, and is similar to most Vietnamese restaurants, but when it comes to taste, this place has one of the best pho broth. read more

This is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in a city with lots of good Vietnamese restaurants. The hot & sour soup is the best I've had. The spicy tofu w/ hot peppers is great. And the build-your-own salad roll/rice paper things are delicious. And try the jackfruit shake. This places has been one of my staples for a long time. Yeah, the decor is tacky. But show me a Vietnamese restaurant where that isn't the case. Don't sweat it. Enjoy your great meal. read more
