Shoutout to the lady who suggested this on tiktok. I haven't had pho this good since I was in Houston. Traveled here to try this suggestion and I wasn't disappointed at all. Nestled right of the corner of an intersection, you'll find the small shop with big flavors! Apparently it's a not so hidden gem because there were plenty of patrons as well as delivery driver in and out. Thankfully we were sat immediately. I already knew I wanted the brisket pho but I was craving coconut tea since I recently had the best ever. The pho was out of this world and definetly the best I've had in the DMV. No need to add anything at all becuase the broth is actually flavorful. And that's the honest to God truth so keep the Sriracha and hoisin sauce away. The coconut tea was a little underwhelming, but that's OK. I didn't come here for that. As far as service, I only saw three workers. An older lady behind the register, who sat us and brought us our water. I saw a lady come out out of the back who I'm assuming works in the kitchen and there is a high school age boy. With that being said service was a bit slow with only one person behind the desk truly working. I ordered delivery through grub hub so this review is just about their food. Shrimp Spring Rolls: Not awful. Pretty basic. Vermicelli, 6 shrimp, sad shredded lettuce, wrapped in a rice paper. The addition of pickled carrots and daikon was interesting. And 1 singular basil leaf! Not at all what I am used to eating. Usually I expect these to be loaded with fresh herbs. Shrimp smelled fresh and not fishy. Special combo pho: Not pho dac biet so do not be mistaken. Basically just pho tai bo vien (meatballs and thin steak). Also the thin steak came cooked in the broth. By the time I heated it up again to eat - it was tough. Pho broth was salty and did not have that much flavor from the spices that go into making a good broth. The broth was also pretty cloudy. The basil provided had an excessive amount of black spots. Just 1 packet of hoisin and 1 sriracha sauce was provided, which was not enough. Would I personally eat again? No Was it worth $32 (after delivery fees)? No, but also many food places in DC are overpriced so I get it. I would rather make the drive to Eden Center. I still ate everything so it's not inedible! The hot tea was everything for my throat. Tasted like lemon with some sweetness and was so tasty and came in a pint glass so was a good amount. Bon bo hue is 10/10. So flavorful on its own and the extra sriracha and hoisin is right at the table if you need. I went at 3pm on a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy at all. Service was quicker than I expected and the ambiance was chill enough for me to be calmly listening to my audiobook and answering work emails without loud noise or distraction. I wanted to like this place, especially since I picked it over somewhere my wife picked, and boy was I disappointed. They put a ton of black pepper on everything! The pho had a ton of pepper. The lemongrass chicken had no lemon grass flavor, but you guessed it, had tons of pepper. The Bun Bo Hue tasted nothing like BBH, but yes, had tons of pepper. The Thai tea boba was so overly sweet that my 14 yo son took two sips and left it. Not to mention that the boba was all clumped up. The service was horrible. On the hottest day of the year, there is no or low AC, and had to ask for water about 3-4 times before the finally brought it, and never offered to refill. My BBH was brought out AFTER everyone else was basically done. And the restroom was a storage room for everything except toilet paper and working paper towel dispenser. Quick and To The Point: I've worked and hung out in the greater H St area for years and this was my first visit. Based on the DoorDash volume, it was quite evident that this is a popular spot because there were about eight bags waiting to be picked up. I came for lunch to grab the special combination rice, and despite the rush going on, the attendant greeted me and recommended that I take the time to view the menu . I did not want pickles in my combination and did request for it to be spicy, that Being said it was delicious, especially the chicken, the preparation seemed fresh and not like traditional Chinese carryout . I will be back again, for another to go bite. I'm new to Pho and I really enjoyed my visit here. I ordered the spring rolls and the crab shrimp rolls to start which were delicious . It was my first time so the lady who assisted me was so helpful and patient with me with ordering. I actually been 3 times so far. I tried the beef brisket pho and seafood. One of my visit I just ordered spring rolls and the shrimp rolls. Between the beef and seafood my favorite was the seafood one. The only thing I regret is I ordered to go , which meant I had to go home and warm it up. I believe In order to get the real experience of pho is to eat while it's hot at the restaurant. What she actually did was move me from a 4 seater booth to a 4 seater table, because the group wanted to sit in a booth. They gave none of the usual things that come with a Pho order and I got one TINY packet of siracha (for two bowls of pho) even tho I paid extra. No hoisin, no basil, no jalepano. The weather was gloomy so we decided to pick up pho for dinner. The restaurant was busy with many pick up orders but my online order came out quickly. I ordered the Summer Rolls w/ Stir-fried Garlic and 5/5 sooo good. The sauce was the perfect and the veggies were fresh. I also ordered the Crispy Shrimp Dumplings and 5/5 as well. They were flavorful and crispy. The thai chili sauce made it taste even better. I had the Brisket Pho and it was very flavorful and fresh. Pho Viet is the ideal spot for a takeout lunch during the work day. While I've never tried Pho Viet's namesake Pho, I have consistently enjoyed this restaurant's the Boneless Chicken Rice Plate (R16). The plate comes with a deep bowl of turmeric infused rice (no discernible flavor difference but the turmeric provides a nice yellow color), a couple of cucumber slices, raw lettuce super thinly sliced, lightly pickled carrots and daikon radish, and the grilled chicken itself, topped with fried shallots. The plate also comes with a cup of nuoc cham, a light fish sauce mixture that brightens the dish up. The chicken thighs are flavored with lemongrass, and while there are some notes of lemongrass, the end result is really just chicken thighs that are well cooked and nicely flavored. The pieces are browned well and the inside of each piece is tender. The chicken is definitely enjoyable alongside the nuoc cham and various vegetables; so enjoyable that I ordered this particular dish around twice a month last year and twice this month alone, including today. The various side vegetables are all enjoyable. Perhaps omitting the four slices of cucumbers and replacing them with the carrots and daikon mixture would be even more enjoyable, but I'm not complaining about the variety. A couple of notes - Pho Viet's dish is not the most boldly flavorful version of Viet style grilled chicken that I've ever had, but it is definitely one of the better options in Washington, D.C., especially for a lunch during the work week. The ratio of rice to the rest of the ingredients is high; by the time I finish the chicken and vegetables, I have half a serving of rice left behind which I then repurpose for another meal. Value for money is palpable. I will certainly be back for takeout and will eventually work up to trying some other dishes offered by Pho Viet's H Street location! read more

I ordered takeout from here, only two items. I showed up five minutes early so I apologized and was very okay with waiting. However, my order has not been ready for a long time, in fact, I am writing this review while waiting for my order that was supposed to be ready more than 30 minutes ago. I understand that they are busy but so many other orders have been given out to Doordash, people at the table, and other takeout orders. They kept asking me to wait, but wouldn't even give me an estimated time and I was very close to asking for a refund. The service is so bad and it is only Monday. If you want to order take out and pick up your food late, this is the place for you. Edit: just saw the receipt. 8% gratuity? Really? Not deserved at all. Pho Viet USA is a new pho spot on H Street NE. Most of the city's pho spots are in Northwest D.C. so there's an advantage for a pho spot to open in Northeast D.C. However, this spot can learn a few things from the great pho spots in Northwest: 1) Food: The menu is diverse, including spring rolls, fried rice, noodles, and bubble milk to compliment the pho. Prices are average compared to other pho spots in the city. However, the flavor and quality aren't up to par. I ordered the spicy lemongrass beef pho and for being spicy it lacked flavor and a kick. The ingredients are sparse (usually they pile the bowl and plate with veggies, basil, etc) and the broth tasteless. 2) Service: The staff were friendly, but they forgot to bring us water and a few other items when there were only two other guests in the restaurant. There are a few pluses: 1) Space: It's small on the side of H Street closest to Union Station. The inside is beautiful with two murals on the walls and a simple design. It looks good in photographs. 2) Milk tea: I didn't try it, but the fact that it's on the menu is a win. read more

I would give Pho Viet a solid 4/5 stars. I always try to be mindful of how new a business is, and when a place is only a few weeks old, I expect there to be learning curves. I ordered the regular pho, while my s/o ended up getting the lemongrass flavored pho. While the pho had a generous amount of noodles and meat, the broth can definitely be a little richer. Maybe if there was less water put into it, it could be absolutely delicious. The lemongrass pho wasn't as fragrant as others that we've tried, but I also think it's because the broth wasn't as rich as we thought it could be. I think with a little more practice, and more cooking of the bones and meat, the broth can be very delicious. I liked that the noodles were chewy in a sense, and were not too soft. A big problem I have with some pho places is that the noodles were cooked for too long of a time, so the noodles end up being way too soft. The egg rolls were good! Crispy and hot. Also ordered some boba as well and both were very good. I'll definitely come back and hope to see improvements. Full of onions that were barely cooked which really changed the flavor of the rice. After popville published the restaurant was in the process of opening, I have been eager to try this new addition on H street. Last night, I walked by and noticed it's finally open! So I called a friend to come and try it out with me. The staff were a bit awkward, a few of the employees spoke fluent English but went to the back to work in the kitchen and pick up supplies. So a teenage boy helped with our order and he had absolutely no idea what we wanted. We kept on asking for plates and instead he would bring us chopsticks. One of the owners noticed this and dismissed the kid, in which later the kid went home (good idea, let the kid go and do homework). The menu is a very basic Vietnamese menu, consisting of different types of pho, rice dishes, spring rolls, and boba tea options. I was so happy to see such classic and simple menu since the other competitor -Red Boat- is quite fusion. I had wanted to order the spicy pho broth with the same kind of toppings in the special pho order (that meant beef, tendon, and tripe), and it took so long for the staff to understand what I wanted. I understood my order was complicated but typically, going to the original Pho Viet in Columbia Heights and ordering this same kinda dish is not an issue whatsoever. (I asked the staff if they were affiliated with the original and they had no idea what I was asking.) When the food came, our spring rolls were poorly wrapped and cut but the flavors were good. My bowl of spicy pho was bland and the meats tasted cheap. I had to spit a few hard pieces out because it didn't taste edible. However my friend ordered a regular bowl of pho and it was flavorful. We both didn't get any bean sprouts or basil on the side; these garnishes were already added in our pho. Overall, there's a lot of kinks with the service and food. I really hope they figure this out since the owner and staff appeared to be nervous and excited about their opening! I support all family-run businesses in H street corridor but with the way they were running things last night, they may not make the cut. TLDR: Busy casual spot, with an Americanized twist to Vietnamese food. Non-Vietnamese waiters do not know their menu. Food is edible. I came in with a party of 8 Vietnamese some tourists and some local to Virginia. We were greeted promptly and politely from the waitress. Since there were 8 of us, a lot of menu items were ordered, which egg rolls, spring rolls, rice, pho, and a vegetarian dish. The menu itself is very beautiful, but the actual food definitely looks nothing like it. The service: Our waitress was very nice, took our order, and repeated it to us. The appetizers came out within 10 minutes, but the main entrees came out, no exaggeration, 45 minutes later. I asked for extra beansprouts, as the existing amount they gave was enough for ants, and later on found out that they gave the entire table extra and charged for it. This would have been nice to know beforehand that this would be extra, which definitely was not the case. We also ordered a banh mi, but after over an hour, we told them not to bring it, as it was taking too long. Our drinks were full, but had to politely ask them for it. The food: The food all came out at sporadic times, with the children's food coming out 1 hour after the appetizers, again, no exaggeration. Given the restaurant's name, half of the table decided to order pho, and our waitress got it all wrong. We ordered the "Pho Tai Nam" and got the "Pho Tai Lan" My table being Vietnamese, pronouncing it correctly, thought that this non-Vietnamese waitress was pronouncing it incorrectly but giving us the correct order. Upon the first 2-3 bites, we were certain that we did not order this entrée, and asked the waitress and manager what this was? They kept repeating "Pho Tai Lan" and we were like this does not seem right. Anyways, I found a menu on another table that hadn't been pre-bussed in about an hour, and went through it. Saw that they had both a "Pho Tai Nam" and a "Pho Tai Lan" (For the record, there is no such thing as "Pho Tai Lan" so be aware that this proprietary to the restaurant. This is essentially beef pho with the beef being stir-fried with garlic and topped on the pho. sounds good but the beef was over-cooked and tough) Message to the non-Vietnamese waitress: Please double check with your Vietnamese patrons on their Vietnamese order using your menu. Management: Management was a Vietnamese kid who spoke very softly and decided to give us 50% off of two bowls of pho (there were 4 total on our table), which was nice. We spoke to him in Vietnamese throughout our time in the restaurant to get things sorted out, but he was so timid and not confident in his communication. Not much got resolved. Conclusion: This restaurant is definitely catered more to Americans who would like to get a basic feel on what Vietnamese food is. The food is mediocre, at best, but maybe this restaurant is catering to the area. Pho Viet USA is a casual spot, with a fancy menu, and a poor food presentation. Excellent carryout experience for Pho! I was wanting some pho and decided to try this location - near bridge on H street. Called ahead and they were very helpful in taking order when I didn't have a menu. I wanted the soup with no noodles, she was great replacing with some extra bean sprouts and onions. During covid, maybe not stocking some of their less popular items, they were out of tripe and tendon, but everything they had was fresh and delicious. Pick up was good - the front door was propped open and a table was set up for carryout food, pens to sign orders, menus. Didn't have to go into the restaurant to complete a pickup. They had a special to get a mask with an order or you could buy masks, helping take care of customers. I paid with credit card and was very quick. The packaging was good - a paper bag with nice handles, with a plastic bag liner with multiple containers for the soup, one for broth and meat, other for veggies, and two little containers for duck sauce and sriracha sauce. Came with set of disposable chopsticks in plastic, and some napkins. Fun assembly! I ripped up the veggies and put back in the veggie waxed carton, and added the sauces, then poured all the broth and most of the meat and mixed it up.
