We discovered this spot a few months ago while exploring the area and made a point to come back--and I'm glad we did. We called ahead about a reservation, and the person on the phone couldn't have been nicer, fitting us in on short notice without a hitch. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy your meal. Our waitress, Isabella, was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The food didn't disappoint either--my husband ordered the cowboy steak, and I had the chicken saltimbocca, and both were excellent. I've been driving past this place for over 20 years and always wondered if it's good. Last night I was craving steak and walked in, but truly I was doubtful. I sat at the bar, because there are never service issues there. Nice big bar. Decor right out of the 70s/80s, just like I expected. Had a bourbon, a beer, and a ribeye. The steak was very good, much better than I expected, and came just as I ordered, medium. I also ordered broccoli rabe because I just didn't really believe they had it. The Food, Service and Ambiance is just great. Ate there many times and the food, wait staff is excellent. Friendly owners and employees who seem to really care about a great experience. I have ONE issue that I can overlook -- but I bet it drives away some new customers. The rear of the restaurant - along the back of the bldg and edge of the parking lot is littered with old coolers, tables, chairs and cabinet. It looks terrible and in no way represents this business. Why this isn't cleaned up is something I cannot understand, It's a mini junk yard. Sometimes customers have to drive back there to find a parking space and are visually met with junk. Not cool. So don't judge the place by the exterior, It's great inside on all levels -- even the prices are fair. We eat there weekly and highly recommend it. Wedge salad: smothered with bizarre, odd looking sugary house dressing with sugary bacon and crumbled blue cheese - sent back - inedible. Short rib ravioli: sent back/afraid to eat. Overcooked, drowning in less than mediocre sauce. Chef boyardee does it better. Cowboy steak: noooooo what happened here? Tough, gristly - not the mind blowing top cut of the past. You probably would not want to set foot in this place now if it still looked like it did in '01. I remember walking in back then and the air smelling like cigarettes (ewww), I think it had burgundy wall-to-wall carpeting, orangey color woods and bland food. Utter disgust. I even forgot what this place was called back then. Well, things have changed for the better at this steakhouse in the sticks in Phoenicia. You wouldn't have a hard time missing Phoenician at all because it's on Route 28- but slightly off to the side of the road. Its polished, light grey façade can't hurt either. The modernish design continues inside. Similar to a steakhouse style, Phoenician's got those looks too. Due to Phoenician's sheer size with a large bar area, a dining room to the right and one in the back- plus the menu variety on offer, this is rightfully regarded as a steak dinner (or seafood, Vegetarian) paradise. Our server Alfredo did not only do his job- but he was pleasant. Cocktails missed. But I'll stick to wine next time. Both our salads were wholesome- but our warm Tuna in a wonton 'bowl', wasn't raw so didn't appreciate at all the over-doneness. Hubs liked his medium 16oz NY Strip- and would've loved it even more if it had a dash of salt. My swordfish tasted delicious with a lemon-ginger sauce- but it was extremely thin and made me wonder if they had a swordfish steak and sliced it in 3. I wasn't a fan. The food this time was truly well below average. Short ribs were over cooked and the fries were soggy, inexcusable for the price! French soup was good... the cheese delicious but the soup too pale. And then there was the dessert. Tartuffo laden with cinnamon.. why? Not something one would ever see... in Italia or Italian fare in NYC. And then there was the Cappuccino. Dinner last night was to celebrate my nephews birthday. Server was great, came to the table adequately, nice demeanor, very friendly and answered all questions on the dishes thoroughly. There were 5 of us dining and food looked great when it arrived except they brought me the wrong dish. I ordered the pork chop and received leg of lamb. I'm thinking maybe the expediter grabbed the wrong plate and would be right back with mine, but not the case. The server came over after a while to explain the kitchen made the wrong dish and it would be right out. So 4 people ate their dinners and said they were good. Luckily my nephew shared some of his seafood with me. I asked the server to please compensate for this error and she said she would look into that. No manager ever came to the table. After everyone was done with the meal they brought my pork chop out. I asked them to just wrap it up. We were pretty much done except for coffee. She told me the dessert and glass of prosecco were on the house. So instead of comping the item we received 1 dessert and a glass of prosecco. Many years ago I owned and operated a very busy restaurant. To make up for the kitchens error, I would have taken the cost of the 1 dinner off the check, hoped they liked the take-out, and returned to us again. So for a total of $480. You know, Phoenicia is a small town. It's beautiful there. Who knew I would have a pretty exceptional dinner up there. I came the Phoenician and enjoyed dinner at the bar on my stay in that area. It was just three minutes away. The bartender was very friendly, and I met a regular, keeping the conversation flowing. And then to food started coming... I ordered two things, first was the equivalent of fried mozzarella, 'Panko Crusted Morzzarella'. They took this big hunk of mozz, and fried it in panko, to perfection. It was the right temperature, and just the right amount of seasoning...drizzled with a balsamic glaze. This say on a warm salad of some garden green like arugula, with several marinated plum tomatoes. It tasted like they were marinated in balsamic. (Important context, I believe balsamic and tomatoes/mozzarella shouldn't go together 90% of the time). Bringing these components together in this way, was quite delicious, and perfectly executed. It wasn't too overwhelming of a balsamic flavor, and yet the tomato and mozzarella were allowed to shine through. The cream, spicy penne with grilled chicken was also amazing. It was such a well-executed cream sauce, with just the right amount of spice, seasoning, and heat. It was hot the whole way through, and I found myself almost licking the dish (had I not been in the presence of a lady). It was an amazing food experience from start to finish and I will strive to go back (despite a 2.5 hour drive). read more

We came here to eat at 9pm on a Friday night. It wasn't packed and all the tables were social distanced apart. I had the autumn dark and stormy cocktail and it was delicious! The Tuscan mussels was perfect. We also had the calamari but I wasn't blown away. We both tried the specials - I had the halibut and he had the chicken. Came here on a Saturday night after skiing and got two seats at the bar. Got a dirty Tito's martini and my bf a rum and coke and both were delicious. Shrimp cocktail was tasty. We shared the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection (medium rare). It was delicious and juicy. The sear on the steak made it. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were a great accompaniment. We didn't leave any food! Unfortunately I was way too full for dessert but the couple next to us said we had to try their pies (that they are to die for). Next time! We will definitely be back! Labor Day Weekend brought us back to this area and this time, we decided to try out the Phoenician. I really liked the warm ambiance upon setting foot on the place. We did not have a reservation (such a shame!!!) but they had an opening on the outdoor seating area. It's a nice, cool evening and I thought I could tolerate it so we went for it! Our waitress, Cynthia, was warm and chatty. Every description on recommendation was spot on. I asked for drink suggestion and she mentioned the Carribean Cosmopolitan and indeed it had that Malibu Bay Breeze feels to it. The Seafood Pasta on the specials (Tagliatelle) was delicious and rich, which reminds me of lobster bisque. We also went for Key Lime Pie for dessert, which was refreshingly good. Shout out to her for great service! A slight gripe on the steak because it seemed a little too burned outside for medium-well. It was not as busy as I expected on a Saturday night during the President's long weekend. We ordered some apps: Korean ribs and arancini to share. The ribs were excellent - flavorful and tender. The mozzarella exploded from the arancini and it was a bit bland. My friend ordered the pork loin and some pieces were dry. Another had the salmon with undercooked risotto. The pasta was bit under seasoned and the cowboy steak that I ordered (medium rare) was more medium and firmer than I wanted and had a musty flavor. The green beans were soggy. The mashed potatoes were silky and tasty even though it's only seasoned with s/p. Our server, although nice and pleasant, was difficult to catch and get ahold of. read more

The Phoenician Steakhouse was the best steakhouse I have ever encountered. The Service was second to none in that area. The waiter, although I may have forgotten his name, I think it was Adam, but I could be wrong, was very informed of all the dishes on the menu. (excellent Job dude). The wait time was 25 to 30 minutes tops and it was very busy. This establishment is a well run engine. The steak was out of this world. It was cooked the way I asked them to cook it. The seasoning was just right. Dessert was sinfully delicious. The restaurant was as classy as you can get for a steak house. I give them a fat 5 STARS! Easily my favorite restaurant in the world. I would eat here everyday if I could. There Fra Diablo is my favorite dish in my life. Something about how they do the fried calamari is unlike any place I have ever been to and makes the experience at any other place disappointing. I visited The Phoenician on an evening that threatened rain. We had the option to eat inside but for obvious reasons, we elected to sit in the backyard, under the massive pavilion. The hostess made sure our table was safely away from other parties, and we ended up near the swimming pool. It did end up storming later but we remained dry! Until we had to get back to the car, but anyway.   Despite being at a steakhouse, I ended up eating ocean dwellers. We shared the sesame crusted ahi tuna ($16) and the fried calamari ($14) for appetizers which all of us approved of. I ordered the seafood mac and cheese ($32) which was rather gargantuan! I knew what I was having for lunch the next day. I ate about half before throwing in the towel. So rich! The Phoenician used rotini instead of elbows, there was also a reasonable amount of seafood including shrimp, scallops, and crab, and I appreciated the touch of it being served on a cast iron platter. Maybe it could've been a little bit creamier, but no big deal. The side I ordered separately, roasted mixed vegetables with Gorgonzola ($8), was okay. It wasn't particularly crispy or cheesy however. Complimentary bread was provided for the table. Our server seemed a little new to the waiting game, but he was enthusiastic and attentive. Parking was easy in the adjacent lot.  If you're looking for a more upscale meal in Phoenicia, The Phoenician is worth trying out! read more

We were so excited to try this place during our stay. It's a hit or miss around here trying to find a restaurant that are open during weeknights. First off, the ambience of this place is so grand yet very warm, which is quite fitting for a steakhouse. To start, we had the warm kale salad with figs, cherry tomatoes and crispy bacon bits. I had them put the goat cheese on the salad. Wow that salad and the presentation was a 5/5. The way it was cooked and prepared was outstanding. Easily the star of the night. My son got the fettuccine Alfredo as a side for $8. For a side, the portion was pretty good and he loved the sauce and you can tell the pasta was made in house. We shared the 52oz porterhouse for two cooked to medium rare. It was just alright. Not the best we had but still flavorful. This could easily be good enough for 3 ppl. So fellow Yelp reviewers were right in terms of its size. For dessert we just had one chocolate flourless cake with chocolate mousse. Yum. Aside from this dessert, they are plenty other delish to pick from which you certainly won't be disappointed. We immensely enjoyed our evening and would recommend this place. read more

Overall great place. Service was excellent, although I did not appreciated host wearing crocs barefoot at a fine dine place. Just weird. To reiterate someone else's comment about ribeye steak - caramelized onion is disgustingly sweet. Asparagus is indeed a bit overcooked. Mashed potato's appears to be mixed in blender, which is horrible thing to do. I could also question if the steak itself is grass-fed as they claim, it has way too many fat layers which is usually a sign that cow was fed grains, but I'll give them benefit if the doubt. Good appetizers to start. But quickly downhill after that. The dry aged tomahawk and dry aged cowboy steak were terrible. We ordered them medium-rare and they came out well overdone. Extremely dry and lacking that "dry-aged" flavor that is supposed to come through. The waiter told us that the "dry-aged" cuts don't bleed. Note to all diners: ALWAYS make a note in your reservation about where you want to sit! There is one terrible 2 person table, right outside the bathroom, adjacent to the servers' computer that I never knew existed until we were shown to that table last night and the hostess refused to move us elsewhere. You could see servers rushing inches past the table constantly, and it's just objectively a bad table. We were there celebrating a special occasion, so I asked if we could sit at the 2 top near the fireplace. The entire restaurant was empty. She said it was reserved. I also have a reservation so why not just swap? I asked if those people specifically asked for that spot and she said she didn't know. I asked if there was a way for her to find out and she said no. This is frankly, impossible, so at this point she's clearly lying to me because she doesn't want to deal with it. I used to be a hostess and a server myself. She didn't apologize, didn't offer to check with the manager, just a flat, dismissive, sorry can't do anything attitude. The Phoenician is one of the most expensive restaurants in the area, so for a restaurant attempting to be high end, they need to train that hostess in a higher level of customer treatment. They should also just put a plant on that awful table and stop seating people there. We left and went to Woodnotes at Emerson, where we were treated to an incredible experience from the host, to the server, to even the woman who brought our bread and cleared the table, and delicious food. That is the kind of service I expect when I go out and pay a decent amount of money. The food here is delicious and the servers are usually very attentive. Sometimes they forget to fill the water, but overall we've always had a good time (I've been coming about 2-3 times a year since they opened). Food: - Kansas City aged steak, $36 - stuffed baked lobster, $39 - sides: bacon mac'n'cheese, creamed spinach, $8 eqch All great choices Wine: - bottle of Medoc, $23. Great deal. Service: - kind & efficient. Took a little bit of time to get all the food from the kitchen but overall great experience - decor is "cozy" but could feel warmer. Place is lively, and welcoming. Overall prices are on the high-end for meat / main dishes but Tavern 214 and Peakamoose (the other two "well-known" restaurants in the area) have a similar pricing.
