    Classic Caesar Salad

We had a great experience at Charlie O's. We stopped in on a whim and it was so worth it! We will be back. We were sat immediately and service was fast. We went on a Friday night and I would've expected it to be busier. The server was nice and attentive. We started with the Caesar salad and it was good to share. We each ordered burgers and they were excellent. We got the same burger and both were cooked perfectly and tasted great. I had tater tot's which were yummy and he had sweet potato fries that seemed freshly made. The bar area was full which was nice to see! The ambiance was clean and fun. The movie posters and decor were cute. The room is open so I would expect is can get pretty loud. Overall we had a very positive experience and will make this a stop again.

    Pumpkin martini to die for

Excellent Wednesday wings! I liked the flow of the place, everything kept moving and we didn't wait a long time for anything. I was surprised at how small the place was, but we were seated quickly & the waitstaff is friendly. I had the sweet&spicy garlic wings, loved them with the orings. Im not ususlly a fried food person, but for a cheat or a treat nite, it was worth it. IM ALSO ONE OF THOSE PUMPKIN EVERYTHING KIND A GIRL, THE PUMPKIN MARTINI WAS KICK ASS. I WANTED ANOTHER BUT IT WAS STRONG SO I HAD TO LIMIT MYSELF.

Hit or miss. It really depends on which server you get. We've learned to only come when our one waitress is working. So far everything we've had when she's been working has been excellent. However there have been times when we went in & she was not working & it was the worst experience. When we have ordered take away & said that we would wait at the bar for the food, 50 minutes later still no food, I have had to hunt down our server on one occasion she said that she didn't know but that she'd check. Needless to say that the food was stone cold. Yet when we stand around at the front door, we get our food in 20 minutes or less & it's piping hot. Lesson learned, don't wait for your food at the bar, you'll be forgotten by your server. You have to stay right in front of them so they don't forget you. We've also sat down to eat & have waited 20 minutes for our server to get us water! It wasn't even busy, the place was not even close to half capacity. After waiting even longer & asking 3 more times for our water, I had to ask a different server for some water, which came out in 30 seconds. Like I said, hit or miss, it all depends on which server you get. Overall a nice little restaurant, with interesting classic movie decor, but unfortunately all the tvs just play sports. It'd be better if they played some of the movies that they have all over the place. The food is decent, nothing fancy & nothing epic. Just standard fare.

    Thoroughly enjoying the wings!

I'm normally indecisive but I said "Steak Frites" and he hastily agreed. He told me to find a place anywhere along the trip back, and I found Flatiron. Despite the high average, the lowest reviews were shown to me first. Even though it was about half an hour out of the way, we agreed to give it a shot. I called to make a reservation only 50 minutes in advance and the guy on the line was friendly and happy to accommodate. Several reviews said this place is "nothing to look at", which we found really funny as we sat in paradise on the patio. Beautiful day. Quiet atmosphere. It was cute on the inside, too. All to say we found this perplexing. I normally don't ask to sit outside for fear of being forgotten (wait staff get busy and it's easy to miss tables that are out of your line of sight) but we were checked on consistently and back on the road within an hour. And also, what matters most: The food was really good. And they cooked my steak the way I asked. Gonna go out on a limb here and say the negative reviews are either greatly exaggerated or the management has since addressed the issues. This was a highlight for us on an already great trip.

The service was quick and the food hot. The restaurant is clean and very nice. Make reservations before you come.

On our way back from meeting our new grandson for the first time in Rhinebeck ((born early this…read moremorning, 10-4-25, and everyone doing splendidly) , we stopped at one of our favorite local places for authentic tasting German food--Jaeger Haus (5084 NY-9G) in Tivoli, NY.  My one sentence review for card-carrying members of team Cliff Notes: "German beer on tap, a good selection of German wines, and authentic tasting German cuisine at really reasonable prices served up by friendly staff in an environment which just exudes Gemütlichkeit."  Everyone else is invited to continue reading, Bitte. There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

Walking in we were seated promptly though we immediately noticed that the interior was extremely dark. Not a big deal but worth flagging for older folks who might have a hard time reading. Our server was friendly and relatively attentive and walked us through the menu. We started off with some classics including their bread and butter (which was tasty and delicious) and ordered their P.E.I Mussels ($19) along with their Fried Brussels Sprouts ($15) to share. The portions were quite large for everything (great if you're in a larger party) but we immediately noticed that the mussels they served seemed a bit off. Many of them were not opened all the way (a sign that they might not be the freshest or recently passed) and had a bit of a fishy taste to them. We ended up not finishing them and flagged them to our waiter. The other items, including the 14oz Ribeye ($43) and baby back ribs ($28) were better, though a bit one-note. The bay back ribs in particular were extremely saucy and the corn bread was dry and a bit tough to eat. I had to use a knife to split it apart as it kept crumbling every time I used a fork. Regardless, it seems like a popular spot for a reason and perhaps we just went during more of an off-night. I'd still recommend checking it out but avoiding the mussels if you go.

This made me a little dubious at first but I went in with an open mind just to give it a chance. Walking in I had no idea what the layout would be like or even the vibe I just knew the menu is random. From the outside it looks like you're walking into someone's house and that's just what it is. Someone's house. It does not feel like your traditional restaurant at all. It has a staff of three including the chef and seating is a little limited. The ironic part is even though the space is on the small side you don't feel cramped at all. The staff is beyond friendly and truly makes you feel at home. Now in regard to the food the plates were picked clean. I started off with the bread and butter and it came out warm and soft. It tasted like a sour dough but I'm not sure there were two types both delicious. Their homemade butter was out of this world especially since I love garlic and it had a roasted garlic flavor to it. I ordered the sirloin Moroccan kebab with koos koos and was it outstanding. It wasn't a complex plate at all. Grilled onions peppers with seasoned steak and koos koos with zucchini. The real charm is how they blended so well together and how fresh everything tasted. It felt like it was from a farm. I'm not a culinary expert but every bite just made you want another one. I'll be honest at first I didn't see how it would work but once I tried it was like DUH! I truly cleaned the plate for a second time. Then came desert which was a Choclate mocha cake with a raspberry sauce. Once again I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I'm not one for Choclate or raspberry but it was delicious. The cake was moist and light and the raspberry was slightly tart but just sweet enough to make dipping the cake in the sauce to be a luscious treat. I definitely plan going back regardless of the menu because not knowing actually makes it the fun part of the experience. I can't say enough about my time there I highly recommend anyone who has read this far and is an enjoyer of culinary arts to try this place.
