Dearing has been a great place for my daughter. She has done theatre for the last couple of years and wanted to get some professional help. Dearing has been just that. She has already progressed so much in such a short time. She has also done privates and they are worth the money. She recently did the summer camp where they proceeded a ln actual movie in a week. I recently moved to Phoenix from California and was a professional movie, TV SAG(Screen Actors Guild) Actor for 10 years in LA. There are alot of acting schools in LA(many sketchy charging thousands for inferior instruction). The Dearing School is superior to most I've seen in Hollywood. The classes cover classic acting skills, improv and comedy for all ages for all types of mediums. I met the Owner, Matt Dearing, and was quite impressed. We absolutely LOVE this studio . It's a bit of a drive for us but definitely worth it as the instructors really know what they are doing and I have seen all three of my kids confidence soar over the last few months . We have not only enjoyed the classes but the showcases as well where they are able to perform and reflect on what they have learned . We enrolled our oldest as her goal was to become more confident but quickly saw the benefits for the younger ones as well . My 9 yr old son who has been in speech therapy since 4 years old is no longer in need of it ! My 6 year old wishes she could come everyday and my 11 year old enjoys the challenges in the teen class . All three have recently signed with an agency in Los Angeles and have used skills taught in the studio in their auditions . Absolutely love this acting studio. I was a student at Dearing for 3+ years. I matured there from being an inexperienced wishy-washy actor hopeful, to a skilled serious craftsman. The other students I met in my time were incredible. I made lasting friendships with them as well as the staff. Matt does his best to encourage his students develop all of their skills and talents- not just acting. I've experienced and witnessed extremely moving scene studies, disappointments and triumphs, and most importantly to me---so many opportunities to truly learn. The environment is very supportive. I saw a huge difference between me at the beginning and me at the end, but I will say this: you have to be willing to put in the work and give full effort if you expect the training to make a difference, and you should try to be welcoming of critiques as a platform to improve your work rather than take them personally (and that's true of any acting studio or school- not just this one). I love Brian Sweeney who is such a genuine person and will go out of his way to teach you or make you happy. They have great acting classes, great location, flexible pricing and is supportive of the acting community. Why 4 stars and not 5? For the fact that both of the classes that I took, the teacher has not stayed consistent throughout the duration of the course. One class had so many subs from week to week, I forgot who my original teacher was suppose to be. The other one listed one instructor (and the reason I decided to take the class), another instructor taught the first class (needless to say I was very disappointed) then a different instructor taught the remaining classes. I just finished up with my first month-long class at Dearing Acting Studio and I have nothing but good things to say. My class had the perfect number of students, ages ranging from late teens to 40s. Chaos Comedy is located at the Dearing Acting Studio. This improv troop has a great show for families on Saturdays at 7 in a comfortable theater. Once a month they put on a 18 and over show at midnight which is awesome. The players are excellent and the show is only an hour, so it is a great way to start off your Saturday night. We went to the Saturday kid/family friendly show- we had such a great time!!! This place was a huge surprise as we had never heard of this type of family friendly improv before. I have been to other studios and must admit that I've always taken away valuable info from each studio and instructor. i just finished another class here....Improv Games. i was so green to these style of "acting". i'm not quick witted...it usually takes me up to a day to come up with a "witty" reply. i'm more of a potty mouth, personal attack, politically incorrect response kind of guy, which obviously means i need to expand my vocabulary. javier whom led the class, was above helpful and insightful. he kept us motivated and critiqued the performances in a highly constructive way. i was also impressed at how he handled many of the younger students, whom seemed to have issues with not talking and paying attention at the right moments. again, great class and instructor. i can't wait for my moment on the big screen...one action mega-blockbuster hit!!!!!! read more

I attended Dearing Acting Studio for 6 months. This is the place to learn a new side of yourself around the right kind of people. They encourage freedom of expression. Freedom from being judge or worry of what others think.
