Open to the public [New Albany IN]…read more Along East Main and Market Streets contain a concentration of historic residential properties... this is New Albany's Mansion Row and the William S Culbertson Mansion is one of them offering a 60-minute guided tour. We came at the last hour... just in time for a tour inside the mansion. Admission is $13 (but we qualified for the Seniors rate -- yay! best part in turning 60 LoL!) Our young tour guide was very knowledgeable and well-informed about the property. We started in the foyer and worked our way up to three stories, ending in the kitchen. The mansion is a French Second Empire-style structure and at the time of his death in 1892, Culbertson was one of Indiana's wealthiest men. Rooms that were shown to us included the FIRST FLOOR: Informal Parlor, Formal Dining Room, the Formal Parlor (which can be rented as an event space), Library. SECOND FLOOR: Morning Room, Daughter Blanche's Room, Daughter Anna's and her husband's Room, Dressing Room, Mrs Culbertson's Room, Mr Culbertson's Room (still under construction) and, yes, they each have separate rooms. THIRD FLOOR: Son, Samuel's Room, and across the hallway is another room under construction but has some exhibits and history material on display. From here we headed downstairs to the servant's quarters and finally the kitchen on the ground floor. Lastly... during Fall and Halloween season the Carriage House is transformed into a haunted house. They call this event the "House of Anguish." This is the primary fundraiser for the Culbertson Mansion. Review #3876

They are painstakingly attempting to match the vibrancy and elegance of the wealth William Culbertson possessed. Culbertson was considered the richest man in Indiana and the house certainly reflects this. Considering the cost this is rather a bargain for architecture and history lovers. The tour lasts a little over an hour. The good news is that parking was plentiful and free since it's about 5 minutes away from downtown is the area known as Mansion Row.

I was actually able to take a free tour here and learn about This place while on a parent Led 8th grade class graduation celebration for my oldest daughters class. Part of the celebration was to take a limo ride over to the NoCo area to take photos and selfies with the awesome public art scene. While walking around a worker From maker 13 stopped us and asked us if we wanted to come in and take a tour on This surprisingly chilly late April evening. The kids and parents all obliged and we really enjoyed the tour. The kids were very attentive and asked a lot of good questions about the program and got to witness some local artist perform their work and craft. The studio is basically a rent an office place for artists ranging from designers, computer techs, wood workers and other skills im not familiar with. They do offer summer program and things for youth to come in and work and have a space as well. While on the tour they did have some sodas and snacks for sell which all the hungry teenagers obliged in as well. Overall a very cool and unexpected trip and tour on the kids memorable and fun graduation day. I know for a fact that this tour was a highlight and memory for a lot of the parents and kids. So very cool of them to share their space and knowledge with all of us.

I've been to botanical gardens in other cities where the community and local officials don't dedicate resources to it. I'm not sure of the entire breakdown here for funding but I do know they'll obtain a round of funding, build out, and repeat. In the future, this botanical garden will rival some of the best in the country. I don't even think 25% of this place has been developed yet. On the last visit, it was for the holiday light decorations. We got super lucky, arrived, and within 20 minutes it started snowing. It made the experience so worth it. Out of other holiday happenings around town, (Light up downtown, the mega caverns, etc etc), I much preferred this even over all the others. The light decoration isn't the largest but I still think it's worth it. Kids will love it and as long as you're not a grumpy gus(No offense Gus) of a human being, you should have a good time. The gardens part through the spring and summer is also fun but limited. Again, it's going to take time as the years go by but the botanical gardens definitely adds something to the city of Louisville.

We utilized the recently advertised BOGO promotion for the "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"…read moreproduction. Several of our friends coordinated the purchase of 3 sets of 2-ticket pairs to fill a table of 6 for a Sunday evening performance. The pre-show buffet is fantastic with a well stocked selection on the fresh salad bar (typical options as well as broccoli salad) and then a delicious hot dish buffet. We had green beans, corn, quinoa, Mac 'n cheese, baked potato, pulled pork (very, very good!), baked fish, fried fish, fried chicken (also very good!), and rolls. Our server, Eliza, is also one of the Footnotes (formerly AKA as Barnstormers) and was so fabulous with taking care of us and prompt. We ordered various desserts (selections include bread pudding, flourless chocolate torte, strawberry shortcake, rocky road chocolate brownie, hummingbird cake, peanut butter pie, ice cream) to enjoy during intermission and they were all so rich that my advice would be to share if at all possible. Gift shop at entrance had so many cute items. Lobby and restrooms were all well maintained. Support staff were welcoming and all seemed to operate as a team and like a well oiled machine. Parking lot is large, well lit, and very easily accessible for anyone with mobility concerns. Looking forward to the 2026-2027 season!

The meal is served buffet style before the play begins, and there are plenty of options available on the salad and hot food bars. Everything was the correct temperature and safety gloves are provided to prevent the spread of germs when touching the serving spoons. We were conveniently seated close to the buffet tables which meant there was a bit of traffic going past us, but we were able to get our food early in the process. Servers bring your preferred drink to the table, including alcoholic drinks from the bar, and they also serve dessert and drinks (an extra cost) during one of the play intermissions. The play, The Bunco Squad Rolls Again, was a funny, locally-written play with a twist at the end. Some friends from college used to perform at the theater and now the daughter of a former classmate is performing there. I think we will definitely return to see other plays.
