Our previous visits have been disappointing. Mostly, because we aren't greeted when we arrive and we wait and wait to be seated. This time we were acknowledged promptly and led to our table right away. Our server was top notch. Drinks were quickly brought to the table. A darn good Bloody Mary hit the spot. My wife and I shared a garden salad and some onion rings. The rings were almost too big! The salad wasn't anything special, but the ingredients were fresh. For dinner my wife ordered a Cajun shrimp bowl. The serving was huge! My dinner was a combination of grilled cod and fried clams. Again, an ample serving. My fish was done perfectly. The baked potato was piping hot. And don't get me started on their hush puppies. Kingfish served up an excellent dinner. Half of which came home with us to live another day. read more

Don't you hate to see an old friend go wrong? Kingfish Restaurants have been my go-to for excellent seafood since I was maybe 9 years old. But my visit on 12/9/25 may have driven me to find a suitable replacement. I arrived mid-afternoon on a Tuesday, and ordered a simple fish sandwich plate. The fish was overfried, and I think I'm still owed a serving of Cole slaw. The bread served with the sandwich was stale, crumbly and flavorless. Plus the sweet tea was not sufficiently sweet. And their tartar sauce is definitely substandard. The service was good, but without good food, what's the point? The best part of the meal were the French fries, which were from outside. I could buy them at Kroger. I may give them one more try soon, see if I hit them on a bad day. But for now, I'm pretty much "off" Kingfish on Riverside Dr. read more

Met friends for dinner on our way to Indianapolis. Very light crowd at 4;30 on a Friday night. The parking lot was full an hour later. We ordered a variety of meals. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. My catfish was delicious, the onion rings had four times the breading as onion but tasty. Beautiful evening so we sat outside. Our waiter was very informative and speedy. We have dined at this location many times. The view of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline is spectacular at this location. We had a party of 4 and we were greeted and seated promptly. The waitress arrived and started taking our drink orders and it became apparent that she was struggling to understand some very simple drink requests. She later confessed that she was new, and that's ok, but it appeared that she had absolutely zero knowledge of the menu. I have to question how much training she had received. The food came out fine and was prepared appropriately. So in summary, the visit overall was good. I would recommend improving the training of new staff members and confirming that they know the menu before having them work solo. read more

Watch your gift cards. I paid with 2 twenty five dollar gift cards. The waitress said one had nothing on it. I later found out the twenty five dollars that came off was the one that was used on my bill so where did the other one go? Answer in the waitress pocket. I been going here for 60 yrs. I talked to manager and the corporate office and they basically didn't care. They seem to be hiring some pretty shady employees so beware . I have literally spent thousands of dollars at kingfish and had previously gave them a 5 star and said they were my favorite restaurant which I forwarded to corporate. The food is great. It was way too cold to sit inside but they have a carry out that overlooks the river. Bonus: live music tonight on the patio. They young guy that waited on me was so friendly and helpful. This was a great decision and I'm glad I didn't settle for a chain restaurant! We ate at KingFish restaurant while on vacation. It was not a good decision. Awful ambience. Food was bland and not great. My fish was gristly. My husband's fries looked like packaged oven fries. The green beans looked like they were out of a can. Staff were shabby looking. The views were decent, but you can get those along the shoreline anyway. Couldn't wait to leave. We drove up to the large restaurant, with a big patio on the river. There was free parking. I was thrilled to get a table facing the river behind walls of windows. The restaurant is between 2 Bridges, facing Louisville. Matt our waiter brought over menus with a basket of delicious hush puppies. We started with Rolled oysters that were wonderful oysters wrapped inside a big hush puppy with cocktail sauce, just wonderful! I ordered the broiled seafood platter with tilapia, shrimp, scallops, cod, cole slaw & onion rings & my husband the fish & chips basket. My husband's fries didn't do it, he enjoyed my onion rings. I live so near Kingfish, it's kind of surprising that we don't go more often. We chose to have lunch during lent there, and were blown away. The hushpuppies were big, tender, and flavorful. Food didn't even look good when brought to the table. You guessed it - YES! WTH were we thinking?? We ordered fish, lobster tail, onion rings, soup (we never got this, probably for the better), frog legs - so many things, and all but the FREE hush puppies and the onion rings were absolutely TERRIBLE. When the lobster tail came out, it didn't even look good. And I'm not sure what they served with the lobster, but it was certainly not butter. It was almost orange in color and tasted AWFUL (I'm from Wisconsin, I LOVE all butter). Why we didn't just send it back and walk out then, still baffles me. The service wasn't even good! The place was about 1/3 full, we sat AT THE BAR when all the tables were dirty (bar was also sticky), and we STILL could not get a refill on beer or the water we ordered when we first sat down. We were driving through and decided to give it a chance. The food was amazing! I had the citrus and pepper tilapia which was delicious. Others ordered wharf platter and fish po boy. Kids had grill cheese and chicken tenders. Those were the best dang tenders I've tasted. We sat outside and even with a light rain it was the best view! We had been planning on this for weeks, and were really looking forward to eating here. The food WAS good, and the setting can't be beat. But we have not had such poor service in years. My partner had to go to the server's station TWICE to (1) find our server; and (2) to get the rest of his meal. The server never came back to see how we were doing, and I didn't even see her leave the check. We waited and waited to pay her, and when she brought back the change (we paid in cash) the bill was rounded UP to the nearest dollar, We never saw her leave the change! I have been patronizing Kingfish all of my life especially when I lived in Southern Indiana. They still have the VERY BEST HUSHPUPPIES I have ever had and I used to live in New Orleans for 21 years and have sampled many a hushpuppy over the years. The menu has been reduced significantly. Pan fried shrimp are no longer available here. But there are several options on shrimp to overlook that I guess. They still have the choose two and choose three combos. I love the location of this restaurant and there isn't really a bad seat in the dining room. You can look out over the river, see all four bridges crossing the Ohio River, The Belle of Louisville, Louisville's waterfront and stadium. Parking is not a problem anymore as they have expanded their parking lot and other closed restaurants are available as they transition. Kingfish is also set up to handle multiple large groups with separate dining rooms. Not every restaurant is equipped for that these days. I ordered the choose two combo and selected their fried shrimp and the Cod fish with a side of onion rings. As steady as a rock, their classic white fish is great, tender, and tasty. The fried shrimp are always good. Their onion rings are the biggest I've seen and just so you know, one order is plenty for a table of four. Every one can have one or two. read more

This place was recommended to me by a local years ago and I make it a regular stop every time I travel to Louisville. Since it's just across the river the city view is excellent and the food is always delicious! Service has always been good and the hush puppies are always fresh and hot. I had high hopes for this restaurant! I should have read the reviews My family in Louisville suggested this place on the Ohio River. Whelp, the view is nice! The food was a major disappointment! Everyone, no matter the order was not satisfied with their meal. The clam chowder was watery and tasteless! The Louisiana gumbo not a hint of Cajun/Creole seasoning. Actually no clue why the ratings are so low. We really liked the food. Both of us had thought we remembered liking the food, but I was nervous something had changed since neither of us had been there in a handful of years. It was still really good. I'm vegetarian so I just got the four sides meal. The coleslaw was perfect and the fries were really good too. I also got two Mac n cheeses. The Mac was so so so good. My boyfriend got shrimp and fish and really liked it. They also give complimentary hush puppies which are huge, have great flavor, and are cooked perfectly. The only complaint I had is that I called ahead on our car ride there because it was Friday during lent. They said there was absolutely no wait and we could get right in. Unfortunately, the set up and all that is meh. What could be a great fine dining seafood experience is actually a run-of-the-meal casual dining type environment with bland food and interior decoration which clashes with the design of the building itself. Update, had a friend who was in Louisville who ate there while she was visiting last week. She packaged and brought back some of the tartar sauce from the restaurant back to me. Can confirm- this sauce is elite! Compared it with high level local tartar in Wisconsin and Kingfish is still the champ. I'd give something to have the recipe for this! Lunch visit which is the first visit in quite a while. We haven't been eating at Kingfish due to them always being out of what we like to order. Today they had everything we wanted and it was delicious. We started with the fried mushrooms appetizer. The mushrooms quality/size have been hit or miss for quite sometime. Today's were definitely a hit. Very good. Both my wife and I had the Coconut Shrimp. Between us we ordered 3 sides, onion rings, side salad and Cole Slaw. The Coconut Shrimp was better than ever. The onion rings were very good as was the Cole slaw. However the side salad was basically chopped up iceberg lettuce with a couple rings of red onion and a tomato wedge. Very plain and unimaginative. They used to include cucumber and if I remember correctly green pepper cubes in the side salad. We were served their hush puppys pre meal and they were delicious. We decided to take a tiny bit of a hiatus on covid and ordering take out and stopped in at Kingfish. With lent and all, we were looking for someplace with a good fish menu and covid compliant. The hostess was very cordial and professional and kind. I was quite pleased with the social distancing and mask wearing by the staff and customers along with sanitizer available. I thought the location was seeing some well deserve visits by customers but no overcrowding. The drink menu seemed quite curtailed but not a big issue and the other offerings for food were very prominent. We ordered craft beers but the selection offered we found were not in stock so we had to make other choices. Our waiter didn't seem to be too intuitive on the menu both drink and food so he might of been relatively new. We ordered our food at the same time as our drinks. My wife ordered tilapia spiced and I ordered the catfish. Our drinks arrived nice and cold. My glass was frosted and icy and my wife's angry orchard was nice and cold. Our meals arrived, my catfish was crisp and hot but my fries were warm but not hot and somewhat limp as so were my wife's. Both our fish were fresh and hot. I don't know what happened to the fries. My wife's tilapia was very lightly seasoned to a point of lacking taste and a tad fishy. The catfish was outstanding. We mentioned the fries and fish to our hostess and the brought a manager over and she offered us more fries, but we already had eaten most of ours and didn't really need more fries. We concluded the our meal with another beverage each and a slice of key lime pie, which I haven't had for a long time. The pie was tasty but quite frozen as well. Went to the carryout for a Fish sandwich, fries and a drink. To my surprise that cost over $17.. service was good and quick but they must have kitchen issues. My fish was good but small. However, the fries were inedible. Cold, rubbery and chewy. For that price the food should be fresh and not be sitting around getting cold. I learned my lesson on this place. Kingfish gas been around for awhile and it us an easy choice on a nice day. The views of th he river along with a cool drink is a good remedy for a rough week. The food? Well....I have to admit, is just okay. The fried cod is breaded and thin. The shrimp is far from tasting fresh. The fried scallops, to my surprise, were my favorite on the Captain's Combination but there were only 3 of them. I also tried their rolled oyster and it wasn't bad...just maybe could have used another minute or two in the fryer. The major no no though was that our entrees arrived before our salad. I believe they have some of the best blue cheese dressing around but sent the salad back (but used the dressing to dip my fries in...try it!) The service was good enough for a 15% tip.
