BUYER BEWARE. We were referred to them by another builder, supposed to be a notch up in quality for similar price. We got well build dovetail drawers (they are nice), but everything else was a "dumpster fire" - brand new shelf was coming apart 2 days after installed (melting into pieces), hearth mounted too low & not level & unstable & he thought a 3/8 bead of caulk was a reasonable fix, doors/drawer faces short or long and had to be recut or replaced, large & inconsistent gaps, almost everything was crooked & some boxes not even mounted level on the wall. They ended up putting us over 8 weeks behind schedule & we gave them an opportunity to fix the huge list of issues & they did come back, but unfortunately did not have the ability to correct the issues. Brian (owner) asked the guy that referred us to Phoenix to inspect, we obliged and let him inspect & he was apologized, was embarrassed he referred them and said he would not accept the work either. Took the replacement guy 7 days work to make redo/replace & reinstall - every door & drawer had to be adjusted and many replaced. We were billed for cabinets that were not build & he billed us for them and is now threatening a lien - good luck with that. Examples of incompetent work - Installed floating shelves with a pin nailer - a 3/4" thick support nailed to a 1/2" piece of sheetrock with a couple 1 1/4 pin nails - your math is correct shelves were nailed to sheetrock and not the 2x4 walls. The shelves were "melting" off the wall, so with a slight tug they fell to the counter. It was a freaking joke, built wrong and falling apart & also faulty installation & melting off the wall - neither design or install was going to last more than a few days & what if someone actually used the shelves to hold anything... Flat crown - 3 pieces, first cabinet crown/trim was 2.5", third cabinet crown/trim was 3" & the middle cabinet crown was cut at an angle to tie to the two adjoining crowns/trim pieces. He actually cut an angled crown/trim piece to line up with them up & when I asked him about it, he wanted to know who noticed it, that a buyer would not notice. Frameless cabinets - doors cut 1/4" short, so inside faced edged showed (no, your not supposed to see it). He used a different color edge band on the inside (he used what he had vs. actually ordering the matching color), it was an obvious error that he did deliberately and demanded to know "who pointed it out" as it was not something a buyer would notice. He blamed the material supplier for the delays. We met with them & they advised the product is in stock in Salt Lake City and have a weekly delivery, so order by Monday & they will have it shipped up every Tuesday. Drawer faces mounted too low so the "finger handles" did not fit. He asked us for dimensions prior to install & did not install at correct height. He was providing handles, did not order them and then asked us for dimensions. I had to go buy the handles and deliver to him & they were 100% less than he is billing us. It gets worse: at least half of the door faces were mounted too low, so he loosed the drawer face and bent the drawer face around the handle. Many ways he could have used to fix so they looked right, but apparently he did not think anyone would notice the gap, not flush lines or rounded/bent drawer faces. This is the short list of errors, and does not mention the numerous delays and no show appointments. Worst experience ever!!! We purchased these cabinets for $25000, first they came with no shelves or hardware, drawers are crooked, doors don't shut, doors don't open, trim is dented, almost all cabinets have dust in the paint. Then their employee says it's warranty work, who does the warranty work. Please contact me, I have 100s of pictures of this nightmare. If I could give this business a zero rating I would. I ordered a custom vanity and paid 80% of it in December 2018. The design was 90% finalized and the next step was stain color. First of the year 2019 I reached out to the owners of the company through email and text to find out when I would see stain samples and there was always some reason why they couldn't meet, or said they would but never showed up, due to family illnesses or emergencies. This in a nutshell is how the entire relationship went with them. Needless to say, I never got a vanity. 11 months later I decided to find another source and get my money back. After it took at least a month to get my money, the first checked bounced. I finally received my payment, but a year was wasted and felt my money went to support their own personal needs since it was so painful to get my money back. I love to support small business and business with families, but if the family issues are clearly taking time away from customer services and promises, then additional resources may need to be had. This is one of the worst furniture experiences I have had in my life. After researching them online, we found some good reviews and some bad. We should have known from the bad reviews about them taking ridiculous amounts of time to deliver the product. They originally said about 4 weeks on the vanity I ordered for my bathroom, but here we are about 8 weeks after and we still don't have the vanity. I am all moved in and have been living without a bathroom sink for a month. According to Brian, the shipping company lost the vanity he built and he had to build another one. Now they apparently can't find a shipper to send us what we paid for. They have continually made excuses and have given us the run-around. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I am pretty sure they are trying to scam people because no one is this inept. read more

Absolutely the worst experience ever! There is nothing professional about Brian or his crew. I have been waiting for cabinets to be installed right for over 2 months. He has his kids that no nothing about installing cabinets, ruining the walls, floors and the cabinets themselves. He has had to rebuild numerous cabinets because of improper measuring and installation. This has to be the most ridiculous excuse for a company you can imagine. We just had a final walk through with Brian who made some beautiful painted antique cabinets for our new kitchen. He made the cabinets in a timely manner and tweaked all of the little problems that occurred. And there will always be little problems that exist with any cabinet maker and installer. Brian addressed all of those problems and we love our cabinets. He also built our bathroom cabinets with a barn door system in front of our washer/dryer. Fantastic job! read more

I am so disappointed in Phoenix Woodworking and Brian. We contracted with Brian to build custom kitchen cabinets for our home, including demo of existing cabinets. Brian offered us a discount if we paid in full prior to the build and installation. So I did. After I paid the excuses started coming in; other jobs having priority over ours, et al. Finally the demo day was scheduled and on that day Ron and two teenage boys showed up to do the work. Ron is Brian's father and is not qualified to do the work. Ron and the teenage crew showed up without any tools, blankets to protect floors and other items in our house. Brian promised us during our initial conversations that the demo included pulling the dishwasher, built in oven, sink, et al. Ron did not have any tools and was not able to do any of that - so I had to quickly call our plumber and electrical contractor. Fortunately they quickly showed up and did the work - however I had to pay for it. It doesn't stop here. When the cabinets finally showed up, it was Ron that delivered them. I'm guessing Ron is 75+ years and was unable to unload them on his own. He didn't have any help, so I had to call some employees from my business as well as my two sons to do the heavy lifting. During the unloading I noticed that not all the cabinets were in the trailer. I asked Ron where they were and he just looked at me and said I'd have to talk to Brian. That's really how it goes with those two - they play off each other and defer to the other - so no real answer is ever given. Brian hires a third party builder / contractor to install cabinets. The builder contracts with another third party that gets paid based on the cabinet. It's a fixed fee per cabinet - so he is eager to have all the product / materials at the job so he can quickly install and get paid. He installed some of the cabinets in our living room for built in shelving, but the cabinets were missing doors. When I called Brian during the install he said "Oh the doors aren't there? Well look here, I see them in my shop - my gosh I forgot to put them in". Brian must think I'm dumb - I guess I am for paying him upfront. The third party installer was extremely upset when he found out that not all the cabinets were delivered. I called Brian and asked him where the rest where and he said he was building them as speaking. I also found out from the installer and mutual customer through our business that Brian and Phoenix Woodworking has been doing the same thing on another job. Two of the lower corner cabinets and the cabinet depth built in refrigerator box were wrong. So were the two upper corner cabinets. The corner cabinets were to be 90 degree but he built and installed angled cabinets. When I brought that to Ron's attention he would look at the designs and say "you take that up with Brian, but that's what the plans call for so if you want it changed you have to pay for it". Ron is so out of his league with customer service and tact that he shouldn't be allowed in front of the customer. He constantly argues with the customer (me and my wife) (and even treated our 17 and 15 year old children like crap). He is disrespectful with our personal property - places cut wood, nails, and scraps on our furniture, doesn't put down throw tarps, doesn't shop van or clean up after himself or others. The craftsmanship of the cabinet is maybe a 3 out of 5 stars - maybe. The door and drawer spacing is inconsistent, the drawer bottoms are weak, and the drawers move side to side. Ikea builds a better cabinet. Brian now has to rebuild several of our uppers and install them. His installer won't work with him anymore and I won't let Ron in the house - and like I said, Ron doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Who knows when we will see the finished product. Who knows how warranty will work with Brian and Phoenix Woodworking. The good news is I paid for the cabinets with our AMEX and AMEX is really, really excellent at managing charge backs and protecting the customer. Bottom line is I would not recommend Brian and Phoenix Woodworking for your home cabinets. read more

Our experience with Phoenix woodworking was extremely disappointing.  Brian was hired to build custom cabinets for our vacation home in McCall.  He was willing and enthusiastic and said he could do anything we wanted.   I was a bit apprehensive about whether or not he had equipment that would be able to do a good job banding the product we had selected to do the majority of the cabinets in our home.  It would be crucial.  I asked multiple times before moving forward with him--of course, each time I was reassured that he could do it.   General Issues -Boxes that are not built or installed squarely, not allowing doors to align symmetrically -Doors and sides of boxes cut to different lengths.  In some cases the door is longer than the side of the box and in other cases the door is shorter--sometimes in the same box with two cabinet doors! -Cabinets not build to specification -Uneven, splotchy stain.  Some places where there  was no stain at all on first pass and it was haphazardly added later. -Product delivered with large dents or scratches -In some cases he tried to touch up dingers or stain issues--most of the time it looks like a child scribbled on the cabinet with a marker. -Too  many nail holes--many places where glue should have been used.  MANY nail holes unfilled -When nail holes were filled, a tacky putty was used that was carelessly smeared around the hole.  It has since changed colors and collected dust making it look more conspicuous and worse than the nail hole itself. -Damaged edge of cabinets due to poor banding and sanding on high quality laminated material -Ugly glue lines on banding on high quality laminated material -Too many cuts and panels when one panel should have been used.  One cabinet literally looked like a puzzle. -Door hardware (which resides on doors that are side by side) installed at different heights from one another -Cabinets installed with stain color that looked nothing like requested (and for which sample was provided).  Even after seeing Brian's sample multiple times and telling him it was not correct, it was the one installed.   -Careless, error riddled hinge installation leaving holes and damage on inside of the cabinets. -Short kick plates -Edges of all wood doors cut too sharp--a sharp edge like that is difficult to stain and impossible to keep stain on -Shelves that don't fit -Misaligned drawers with bumpers stacked 5 high in some cases in an effort to make drawer fronts align -Inexperienced and unqualified people (even more than Brian) built and installed cabinetry In short, save yourself time, money and heartache--select a different cabinet maker. read more

I am a big fan of Phoenix Woodworking! I had these guys build all the cabinets for my house and I could not be happier. I see some negative responses, but I did not have that experience at all! I contacted them, as well as a couple other cabinet shops to get bids. While talking to all the shops none of them seemed to know their stuff, or have the excitement to do my house like Brian and his crew did. I sent them my plans, and Brian sent me a drawing of my cabinets. I requested a few changes and he was beyond helpful in making the adjustments that I wanted, explained why others would not work for what I wanted. I paid a discounted rate for paying a large percentage up front which was awesome for me. As time got closer, I was eager to see how progress was going so I showed up unannounced at the shop. I was welcomed in, and shown around the shop. I was impressed by how professional the shop was. He has a great shop. On the day of delivery, they showed up, and were right away installing my cabinets. When they were done, Brian's guy that helps him took the time to ask if I had questions or concerns. He showed me how everything works, and made sure I was happy with everything. I did have to have them come back after the painter damaged a couple doors, and they were more than willing to fix/replace the doors that were damaged and didn't even charge me for either one. I would say that if you are looking for an amazing experience, call Phoenix Woodworking. Ask Brian to help you with your project, you will not regret it. Looking at the negative reviews, they all seem to be older reviews so I assume that any issues would no longer be the case. read more

Buyer beware I Placed an order with furniturebyphoenix.com web site located in ID but my (credit card shows up as Phoenix Wood working) for a bedroom set on Sept. 23 (which required 50% down) and was told I would have the bedroom set in two weeks. On Oct. 10th I received an e-mail stating that Brian the man building the furniture was with lawyers trying to get the insurance money to rebuild his factory from a previous fire. On Oct. 30th. I received an e-mail stating that Heather the lady taking the orders would be out on maternity leave and Brian didn't have time to answer e-mails. On Nov.3rd I received an e mail saying my order would be ready to ship next week. I asked to see some pictures before shipment and did not receive the pictures until Nov.21, requesting the additional 50% down before they would ship my furniture. I sent the remaining 50% and after accepting the money on Nov.21 I received an e-mail stating I would receive the mirror in a separate shipment. I e-mailed back three separate times asking when I would receive the mirror with no response. I received the furniture without the mirror about two weeks after my final payment( sometime in Dec.) made on (Nov. 21) with the following defects: The dresser top was dipping in the middle (surface. It was not completely level and flat across the top) from the ends of the dresser. Probably due to a sanding error. The two top drawers were rubbing against the drawers below them. I had to adjust the drawer defect. One of the bed leg supports had a screw broken on the inside. I had to take the leg off and remove the broken screw and replace it. The center support for the bed was missing a notch for the 3/4 inch support to rest in. The two end 3/4 inch supports had to be cut to fit. It's more than 3 months now and I still don't have the mirror. The furniture looks nice but be prepared to wait a long time and possibly make some repairs. 2/5/15 This is a follow up on the report I wrote in Dec. for furniture I purchased from Phoenix woodworking located in Cascade ID. I placed a claim with American Express to hold payment because of the incomplete furniture shipment and not receiving any further communication from Phoenix Woodworking. (The order was placed in Sept. 2014 and I received a partial shipment in Dec.2014 after sending the required full payment in at there insistence and promising me the full shipment in writing )Multiple e-mails and phone calls from me elicited no response from Phoenix woodworking. According to American Express the company never responded to American Express either and they were going to pull the money. Today Feb. 5th I receive the following from Phoenix woodworking: sales sales Today at 1:29 PM To me I have to apologize, Brian just asked me last week why your mirror hadn't shipped. I didn't know it was ready and I guess has been for a month and a half. So, I was wondering sense it has been so long would you like me to ship it out to you. Or would you just like me to refund the $150 for the mirror. Also I was just notified that you filed a chargeback which ever you would like me to do I will need it in writing from your credit card company that you have cleared up the charge back before I can either ship the mirror or send the refund. I can have shipping turned in tomorrow or a check in the mail tomorrow if I get written proof that the charge back has been canceled. Brian has stated that come 8 am tomorrow he will file theft charges. So let me know which you would like me to do I kept getting many excuses and after they received full payment no more communication with them until now when the money was going to be pulled. Now after making me wait all that time with another lame excuse they threaten me with this e-mail. If I could give them zero stars I would. They keep promising you to deliver but insisting on the money first. I highly recommend you stay away from this company. read more

I am shocked at the negative review. I have several pieces that I got from them and I couldn't be happier. My order was late, but I can understand with custom wood working that things can happen. I also understand that with a small family owned shop that family stuff comes up (which is what I was told. Congrats on the baby last year.) The reason for the 4 star is because I couldn't do a 4.5. There is no such thing as 5. There is always room for improvements. I plan on placing another order very soon. Thank you for the great furniture. read more
