I have been a customer for probably over 10 years. I received a letter in the mail that my equipment from Obhai would not function completely with my equipment, so my wife and I decided to cancel this service, and return the cancellation letter to them. Well after receiving another letter from them a few months back, that they were going to send me to collections if I didn't pay my balance of $111.71 in 15 days (This would also add a $25 collection fee). I sent an email requiring details since I cancelled this email. It took about a month for them to reply, it said: The plan you had cost $59.99 plus taxes and fees. Therefore, the total for this year was $109.52 including taxes and fees. On top of it there is a late fee and collection fee included which brings the total to $142.15. The fees might be waived as long as you give us a call to make a payment using a debit or credit card over the phone. Wow, that's interesting, that email had different numbers then the original letter. The delivered mail notice that said I owed $136($111.71+25) turned into $142.15. I was so pissed, the lady Sylvia said I would have to talk to collections (haha - another department at phonoepower) to get rid of the penalties. They are basically a scamming company that steals your money, I haven't used their service for over a year and they billed me $142. I'm pretty sure I paid $25 a year for the service, and all of the sudden they are charging me $142 for something I didn't use. read more

They have for months tried to get me to pay for the next year of service I never received, tacked on late fees, sending me pink collections letters. I was a loyal customer for 10 years. Over the last couple years I had dropped calls and I just accepted that. They blamed that on my internet carrier (Verizon5G). Then recently my call waiting-caller id feature did not work so when I was on a call - I couldn't see who was calling on the caller id. They blamed that on my Panasonic phone. After having constant dropped calls and no more caller id service I decided to switch carriers and I have never been happier. I received a formal cancellation of service from PP on April 2, 2025. On April 3, 2025 PP continued to bill my credit card $22 after my service was formally canceled. After I questioned the fee, they decided to add $25 to that fee so now they want $47. I called to complain and the customer service person could not explain the situation properly to me. I asked to talk to a supervisor and I was told someone would call back. They never did. This is no way to run a business. I am being ripped off after having left them for poor quality service. Go elsewhere. PP has no concern for customer satisfaction. I've been a PhonePower customer since 2009. In the beginning, support was fantastic and the service was high quality for a reasonable price. The cloned line feature allows you to have up to 2 lines/calls active at one time which is nice (your phone adapter must support it). However, it is now 2024. Over the years the website slowed down and sections of it (like the invoice and payments page) began to fail. It is an old website but still gives you the ability to manage the service. I usually use the website to delete old voicemails. Okay, the site being old technology is a nit. But let's move on to the BYOD. I selected a replacement device from the list of supported equipment (Grandstream replacing an old Linksys). During the provisioning process, the PhonePower setup process would only activate one of the 2 lines -- the clone line would not get setup correctly. I contacted support and got a live person -- awesome! And they knew what they were doing -- double awesome! However, it became apparent that the only way we were going to get both of my lines active was to do a manual configuration. And since every adapter is slightly different, the best they could do is provide me with a few basic settings. It was enough to get both lines working. But here's the catch: since it was manually configured, PhonePower won't provide support. That means that if you have problems with your adapter or your adapter stops working after PhonePower does periodic maintenance, you get zero help. I've tweaked the settings on the Grandstream several times, each time requesting help from PhonePower and sending in log information to help troubleshoot why my adapter stops taking and making calls after a PhonePower maintenance event -- no reply; no help. I have to restart my adapter to reconnect. So, support has gone downhill. I used to be able to get assistance, even with a manual configuration, but no more. Then in 2024, got another surprise. My service just renewed. I mentioned earlier that the payment and invoice section of their site doesn't work (at least not consistently). So, my annual service that is about $100 for the service suddenly was over $230. To be fair, my prior years with fees was around $180. When I asked the billing department why my service went up over 33% in 2 years, they replied that it was due to Federal fees. Really? Federal fees went up 33%? Nope. I managed to get a copy of my invoice. The largest fees were not the Federal fees, rather it was a combination of things -- a huge recovery fee, a PhonePower added fee for administrative cost recovery, and an error in sales tax calculation. I compared it to my mobile phone bill -- it had all but the administrative cost recovery fees, but at a fraction of what PhonePower was passing through. The billing department's response was that VOIP vs Mobile isn't a good comparison since the rules are slightly different. Sorry, but it is a perfect comparison. The fees are out of whack on how they are allocated. Oh, and that administrative cost recovery fee from PhonePower -- that was added to help PhonePower cover its various filings, general account servicing, and record maintenance. Um, what? You are tacking on a service fee to cover the costs that are a typical cost of business and should be covered under the service plan!?! So, to sum it up, support is a shadow of what it used to be, fees and taxes will more than double your quoted phone plan, they tack on extra charges to cover their typical expenses as though they were a co-op or a non-profit instead of a for profit business. I expect 2024 will be my last year with PhonePower. read more

The worst customer service!!! I been a customer for many years- I am a sr citizen on fixed income. I am disabled and home bound. Ive paid my bill in advance most of time over the years. several months ago I changed banks and I told them that I noticed they never cashed my check back in September 2020 or maybe October. I told him I needed to cash a check because I'm changing banks and they don't do it soon the check will be returned. I waited two months and then finally they went ahead and cashed the check when I told them to do it the month prior. So anyways in January I asked for an update on my balance due. they emailed me an invoice it said that I owed only $7.50. January 4 I sent them a check for $10 and I found out they didn't even cash the check until March. it's out in their office for over two months. Since then I have mailed to you whether payments and in February they shut my account off even though I was paid in advance. I had no way of calling them I told him multiple times by email that I paid by check I sent them copies of front and back of the check proving that I paid they kept telling me to call to make payment arrangements and I kept saying I'm probably 20 emails or more that I cannot call them if my phone is shut off. I am really pissed off because I've actually referred people to them because other than their crappy customer service I actually like their phone service and the plan and how well the service works for me. I never have a problem with Customer Service when I could talk to them on the phone. but communicating with them by email for over two months all they do is send me the same old message over and over again they never look at any attachments that I send or proof of my payment that I sent them. They recently cash another check that I sent them two months ago last week even though the check is dated March 11 they waited three weeks to deposit it. in addition they have billed me for months that I don't even have a phone to use because they cut me off for two months. they continue to bill me and I don't even have the phone service anymore. They have to be one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Bought the system for my kids to have a phone that can be split. System didn't work most of the time, when it did work the call quality was horrendous. Worked with their support multiple times, all they do is blame the internet connection (Rogers cable, 250mb and runs perfectly). Cancelled the service and settled up. About a year later they renewed the cancelled service and the collection calls started, I tried to work with them to resolve but they insisted on me paying $300 for a service I hadn't used. I refused and sent the cancellation proof. They didn't accept it. The collection calls have continued and they have even reported me to creditors. Don't care as my credit is great even with this. Avoid like the plague. Seriously, this company is terrible when it comes to customer service. The worst. Even worse than Verizon and I never thought that was possible. Extremely dishonest billing practices and advertising as well. They claim to be at one price but when you sign up they add about 20%. They also invent phony billing additions with descriptions that make it sound like they are legit or put on by the government. Some of them are legit, but most are not. They are actually just a way to get the bill higher. They also tell you that they have waived a fee and then right after you hang up they charge you that fee anyway. The customer service people must be used to people complaining because they get very defensive and downright aggressive. Seems clear that they don't really care if you stay a customer or not. I asked to speak to a supervisor about a billing issue and I was told that the supervisor wouldn't say anything different and they wouldn't be able to help me. I said that was OK, I still want to hear it from a supervisor. Then I was told that the supervisor was not available. I said I'd wait. Then they said that it was just impossible to speak with a supervisor but they could have one call me back within one to two days. I accepted and gave them my cell number. It's been 5 days now and no callback, of course. As far as to call quality, it is hit and miss. Sometimes it is fine and other times it has a really strong echo and you can hear everything you say repeated back to you. A really, really, really bad company. Look elsewhere. read more

Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) is being phased out. While it is amazingly resilient, especially with power outages, phone equipment is pretty power hungry. Service costs have not really dropped. Comparing VOIP from the phone companies (including ISPs), they're still pretty expensive, relatively -- can you say cash cow. We first used an alternative provider to cut our phone bill in 1/2. Now I use PhonePower and I've cut that bill to 1/4 of the previous provider's bill (my annual bill is now so far less than a monthly bill from my POTS line). I'm using the same phone number that I've had since 1995. I'm not one to shop by price, but I don't ignore it either. The service is most important -- it has to be reliable or what's the point. This service has been outstanding for the past 90 days. I had some startup issues, but once configured everything was figured out, I have not had any problems. My networking environment is locked down, so it took some effort to clear up some initial install & configuration issues. This being done, I've experienced no problems with voice mail, conference calling, using speed dial. The phone rings for all of my test calls and no one has reported any issues calling me. This is what I want a phone to do. Phonepower provides an ATA (the appliance that you connect to your router) or, as I did, you can bring your own. I am using Obihai so that I can switch service if I need to. There is also a "softphone" (software application) that you can use on Windows or a smartphone. Phonepower ported my telephone numbers (not all phone numbers are portable, although most are, but there are other restrictions), I moved two over, one from Skype, the other from Vonage. I've had a couple of occasions to use support and they are responsive. Full Disclosure: I am not related to, connected with, Phonepower other than as a relatively new customer (90+ days) happy with the service. I was referred to them by another software engineer. BUYER BEWARE. In what I consider a very sleazy and unethical policy, beware that PhonePower will not give you any notice that your service is about to renew. According to their contract, you must cancel at least 30 prior to renewal, otherwise you will be billed the FULL amount and they will not refund your money, prorated or not. So in essence, unless you can remember the day that you signed up for PhonePower, you will be stuck with the full amount whether you cancel or not. I don't know about you, but I believe that you should get ample notice that a service is about to renew and give you the opportunity to continue or not. You get what you pay for! I was referred to Phone Power last January and thought I found a deal. However..... Once they have you things change. When I called last January they said there was a deal of $199 if I to paid for two years in advance. I did. I paid $199 for the service, hardware to be shipped regulatory fees (about $30) and taxes. I recently received my "renewal" email and was advised that I would be charged tax on the same $199 AGAIN. I paid my balance in full last year, so therefore have a zero balance for this year. So I am paying taxes on what???? Their excuse, you were not chared for ths year and you have to pay regulatory fee. I could not agree more, regulatory fees.....not taxes on the same $199. How is that legal? Unethical to say the least. And.....after this year, they are increasing my service by about 25-30%. I've had Phone Power for about 3 years now. I've had some issues. The network went down for at least a day once. My Phone Power box started dying after about 3 years. When it did, I could get internet, or talk on the phone, but not both. Also, people I spoke to said I sounded very like a lot of static. When the box died, I had no phone service for 2 days. The good points. Well, people generally come though loud and clear. Very loud, I turn my phone all the way down and people are still so loud it can hurt my ear. I've had good luck with their tech support. They've been able to solve my problems, and holy smokes, they speak good English. Plus, I've never been on hold for an hour or even 10 minutes. Only bad thing is they don't have 24/7 tech support. Also, it seems like I've had to call them for help more than I would have liked to. I've found their Soft Phone handy. It allows me to make call from my laptop as long as I have an internet connection. Voice mail works fine. Call forwarding has been handy. Second line is a nice feature. I've been able to use my fax machine in general, but I've had problems sending faxes to some machines. Phone Power didn't cut me as good a deal when I re-upped since I wasn't a new customer. In short, sound quality of calls is good, price is good, but phone isn't as reliable and trouble free as a conventional phone service. But, I should add it is still pretty reliable. I'm not sure what those other reviewers are talking about, I've been with phone power for years with no problems. Wile they do sometimes take time to get back to me they always do. I figure the ones that have the bad experience are generally unhappy people anyways so its expecting to get that hand full of people that just do not do well in society. I've had Phone Power service for about 1 year with no problems. Recently had an issue with my phone not ringing or voicemail not working. I used their customer support chat box to try to get to the bottom of the issue, and got probably one of the most professional customer service experiences I've had in a looooong time. The customer service tech, Gabriel, was super responsive and went through troubleshooting a relatively complex setup issue (multiple lines, VM boxes, forwarding rules) with me step by step. He researched on his end, had me try a couple of different settings, and we had everything fixed within an hour. I'm so used to being put on hold indefinitely, dealing with outsourcing firms with reps that don't speak English well, or having any sort of tech support reduced to "did you try restarting... try restarting again", that I thought you guys deserve a 5 star review. PhonePower.com is one of the best thing's we've done. Their system is very easy to setup. Although I'm somewhat of a techy, I had slight issues that their phone & chat support was super quick to resolve. Just recently, I lost my installation instructions. Since I couldn't locate it on their website (which I wish they had), I emailed them and they replied to me in only 6 minutes. Their control panel is very intuitive and is always getting upgraded. I like to tinker with settings and features so I know when things have changed. Whenever I think of a feature I wish they had, I'd either come across it shortly or they'll have it next time I log on. Ever since I came across phonepower, I'm now convinced I won't need a landline anymore. Period. What about support? They're support service is the BEST. I have NEVER come across another business or service that provided better support. I know I may sound like a representative of PhonePower's but in actuality, I'm just a happy customer. I'm a long time VOIP user. I've used MagicJack, Vonage and Google Voice and switched to PhonePower about 2 years ago. My wife an I are thriiled with the service, voice quality, advanced features and most important: support. I'm using an ObiHai 202 which has fax compensation. I'm only an occasional fax user, but the faxes go through with re-tries. Many systems work, but what differentiates PhonePower is their friendly, competent US Based support team. I encountered a complex problem where the solution wasn't simple or obvious. One of their senior technicians, Sergio H. worked tirelessly with me and we've found a solution to my issue. Because the issue was complex, we had a lot of communications. Sergio H always was friendly and knowledgeable and returned my calls and e-mails promptly. Phone Power is probably the worst VOIP on the universe. They have a take it or leave it that's too bad attitude. This attitude was from a supervisor. He says that is the way their switch works. I have Phone Power as a back up digital voice system but once I found out about all of the features included on my service plan, I cancelled my Verizon Phone line completely. It's cool they have a 30 DAY MONEY BACK offer too. After testing the performance, turns out Phone Power has a lot more to offer me for $40 less. These other phone providers give you a DIAL TONE and its $45 bucks without any voicemail, Caller ID, etc. I pay less than $15 a month and don't feel robbed anymore. Try it! read more

Tried to setup a phone number on behalf of a company I work for and the experience was terrible. I got an email saying the setup process failed. I wanted to follow this up and so I called the company to find out why. The lady over the phone said that there was some error when setting up the account and that she could not disclose why the error occurred. She said our account looked like fraud and that was it. She did not give me any further assistance at all. That was it. Not happy with this service. I will not be recommending it to anyone. I have been using this company for VOIP service for over a decade. I have been purchasing a 2 year plans and they bill every year nonetheless. They have charged me every year rather than 2 years as per contract. In 2019 I finally caught on the scam and noticed they're been billing me annually. I spoke to Jazlene on march 12, 2019. She said there's nothing to be done about the back payments they have stolen. However they would honor the 2019 charge for 2 years of service. I was a Broadvoice subscriber and was VERY happy with that service. My account was moved with 0 notice (unacceptable), lost ALL my setting, had the wrong E911 Info. I also lost all my OLD account setting, blocks. They setup incorrect time zones, incorrect addresses. Bill was incorrect, Old call logs were lost. Called Billing. Lady was very nice. I tried to get tech support. The tech was very rude! Sent me a link to a Youtube video. I've worked IT for the past 15 years, 10 of those years involved working with Phone Systems. I had their service for 2 years, hooked to an Obi 110. It actually was fine. I don't need it anymore though, but I'm not able to cancel. I put in 2 cancelation requests in the last week, both of which they ignored; the service is still active. I also "removed" my stored credit card information from their web site. But, when I log back in, the CC info magically reappears! I see where this is going.. I am a couple weeks away from the auto renew point... they're going to auto renew, on the card I tried to delete. Had Phone Power for several years. They auto renew at MUCH higher rates with NO notice. They charge for services they do not provide (I ported my numbers out and was still charged for services even though their system was not used). I had regular call quality and call delivery issues. People could not call me and I could not call many many phone numbers. Constant stream of open tech support case, wait a few days, get some BS response back about call routing and such. Purchased phonepower over a year ago to use as a FAX Line for my home office and i've had nothing but problems. I've spent numerous hours and placed over 20 calls into their Help Desk who at points were able to temporarily resolve my faxing issue but the problems kept coming. They lock you in a 2 year contract and if you try to leave (even for a legitimate reason) you get charged with $99 termination fee and no prorated refund if you did not use their service for the whole 2 year duration.
