DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY!. ITS A RIP OFF! I signed up with PhonePower.com because their advertisement for a 2 years service prepared plan for ~5-$6 /month. However, on the corner of very small writing of the contract, they says that they will charge customers with 5 times of the rate you signing up for, which of course you will not likely to read the online agreement before click " I agree". After the two years contract is over, my credit card is charged ~$30/mpn instead of ~$6.0 per month for 7 months till I found these "unauthorized charges". They rip me off for over $175 over the 7 month charges. I called the PhonePower billing department and attempt to ask for refund, the manager refuses to do so and argue I "have agreed their terms over two year ago when I signed up with them". This is a company acting like a vulture and waiting for this moment to capture the victims. I called my credit card company, surprisingly they told me that they can only dispute for 3 month of charge, not 7 months. So i am out of luck and lose $100 to PP for no reason. Stay away from them. I've had up to four lines with Phonepower since 2009. There have been service outages from time to time, some of them for several hours and others needing their little VoIP boxes rebooting. I bought the 12 months prepay to begin with each time, and they used to email me a reminder that it was about to expire, so that I could choose a renewal plan, and I used to renew it with another 12 months prepay. A year or two ago, they stopped doing that and I would only find out a month or two later, after they had automatically renewed each line using the most expensive per-month rate. That's sleazy, to say the least. I contacted them at different times to cancel service on three of the lines, each with a specific date of about three weeks out for termination of service. On two of those occasions, they disconnected the service within a day or two. When I called them about it they were not in the least bit apologetic for doing it, simply reinstating the service like it wasn't even their fault. I have one line left with them. I am shopping around for a new VoIP provider even as I type this. read more

So.. We use Broadvoice/ Phone power as our telecommunications provider at work. Although it is after hours.- ON A SUNDAY! having issues with our phone lines is a pain in the behind. Even though they couldn't help me with my line issue (that's only because it wasn't related to their services) I want to make it a point to thank Jose ( who took my ticket ) and David ( who tried to help me) lol. People usually go online and talk about how bad their customer service experience was with some business -but rarely comment on the professionalism and great service that others do provide. Very Poor Customer Service! I live in Arizona and we do not change our clocks. But, since PP is based in California their computer system changes the time from PST to PDT back and forth twice a year. Which means the clock on my phone will show incorrect time twice a year. And, twice a year I have to email those slugs in both customer service and tech support to have the time corrected. One would think they could have their computer make the change automatically...not! This year is no exception! But, this time, after five emails to PP, I have yet to receive a response from anyone. I will be cancelling my service with them before my one year renewal is up, and will never recommend their service to anyone. read more

My service isn't even activated yet and I'm seeing red flags here. First, their simple login page throws an error "Error Loading Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An error occurred processing the page you are looking for. It might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable" I'm not activated yet so I expect not being able to login with my username and password yet. But just clicking on their login page graphic on their home page (http://www.phonepower.com/voiphome.aspx#) would normally just take you to a generic login page where you have the opportunity to enter your username and password. It just throws an error. I emailed this to them last week but didn't hear anything back. So days later, I called technical support today to let them know. No business wants to have an "Error Loading Page" page come up for new, current, or prospective customers. Wrong. They really didn't care and tried to convinced me that it's SUPPOSED to be an error page. The tech tried to tell me that "oh, it works for ME." Any respectable website/business has a login page -- whether or not you have your login information yet. It's there asking you to enter it, if you have it. So this is a general outside approach to their website. My takeaway is that if they're not listening to a new customer, be ready for a bumpy ride folks. This is Web 101, and for some reason they just think they're right. Hopefully even newer prospective customers will run across this mistake and let their conscience be their guide. Second thing: he suggested it was my browser (typical fallback). I told him I have Internet Explorer with all updates applied. He said they really weren't supporting IE anymore and that I should switch to Chrome or another browser to fix the login page problem. So I asked him, "so if I don't change browsers I can't use the Phone Power site?" His reply, "only if you want it to work right." You'd think they'd respond with "oh ok, you're having a problem, let me look into that and we'll get back to you." But noooooo. And get this, by the end of the call, not ONCE did he ask me for my name, username, or password. So ANYONE on the outside would have experienced the same problem, and NOT JUST ME (as he put it). Folks, all I can say is that if you ARE interested in this service, please do take advantage of their 30-day guarantee policy. I'M NOT EVEN ACTIVATED YET AND THERE ARE ALREADY 2 FLAGS FLYING HIGH. Hopefully their actual phone service exceeds my expectations, and that their customer service / "technical support who can't even resolve a web-page error"" will prove me wrong. They may have GREAT PRICING, but sometimes -- just sometimes -- you get what you pay for. And we'll see if the webpage magically appears once I'm activated. 8/13/17 Update: Just when you think things couldn't get any more outrageous... I discovered yesterday that Phone Power charged us when we placed our order, and did not credit us back after refusing us service! Thanks to the reviews I've read here on Yelp, this did not surprise me. From the many Yelp reviews from people who were charged when they shouldn't have been who had trouble getting refunds, I knew better than to try and get a refund through their "customer service." One experience with that department was enough! We have filed a dispute with our credit card company. I am also going to notify DSL Extreme, as it is hard to understand why they would continue partnering with a company that has such a poor record. If I hadn't seen numerous positive local reviews of DSL Extreme before I signed up, and had an extremely impressive experience with the DSL rep who took my order (three thumbs up, Raquel!), I would really be questioning whether we had made the right decision to choose a company that partners with the likes of PhonePower. Orignal review: We signed up for service with this company as an adjunct to internet service with DSL Extreme. We did not really want VOIP, but it was the only phone service DSL Extreme offered, so we decided to give it a try. 6 days after we placed our order, we received an extremely generic text-only email from phonepower with a number on it that did not match any other account or order numbers in previously received emails, saying "due to our pre-qualification process you do not qualify for our service." I thought it was a phishing email, but I called DSL Extreme just to make sure. DSL Extreme said phonepower had cancelled the order but couldn't tell me why. They transferred me to phonepower, which said they had sent the email, but they wouldn't tell me why they refused us service either. We are a self-funded charitable trust with a pristine credit record. We exist only to give grants to community organizations (non-political ones). The rep refused repeatedly (it sounded like she was reading from a card) to tell us why we were being refused service. She said we did not qualify due to their internal ordering system about which they are required to tell us nothing. She insisted that credit had nothing to do with it (what other valid reason could there be??). I asked for a supervisor and she said the same thing. I asked for her full name - she refused to give it. I asked to be put through to her boss - she said she didn't have one. I knew this wasn't true, and she acknowledged that she did have one after all, but would only give his first name (which is absurd, since I was able to look him up as soon as I got off the phone), and said he wasn't there. I asked to be put through to his voicemail, and she said he didn't have one (the CTO of a phone provider doesn't have voicemail??!). She said this obstructionism was for employee safety. If that is how they treat everybody, I can see why employee safety would be a concern! After that experience, plus reading the other reviews here, I see we dodged a bullet, but I'm still a little outraged by the whole thing. Is it even legal to refuse service without stating a reason (if you don't state a reason, how can you prove you aren't discriminating?). If they had a valid business reason, why wouldn't they disclose it?? This company doesn't deserve our business, but I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. read more

Terrible service run the other way! One of the worst VOIP service providers out there. Am only a customer of theirs as they bought my previous service provider. Have had to call in no less than 10 times this year on the same exact issue. No Service configured error. They fix it and then 2 weeks later the same issue is there. Their front line tech support know nothing and it is always an issue with something on your end. Last fix took me from Wednesday to Friday to get fixed and this is for a small business and personal line. read more

Absolutely poor international service. Worked for about a year, then international calls (to Ecuador) became choppy / unintelligible; and in some cases ended up at the wrong number. I spent probably four total hours distributed over perhaps eight calls, on the phone with their technical support and each time was told that the complaint was being forwarded to the 'Routing Department'. Obviously no attempt was made to trace the call and pinpoint the problem; instead Phonepower took a scattershot approach, hoping that would fix the issue. It did not. We still do not have service to Ecuador. ATT cellphone service works like a charm. Now, I'll have to find another VOIP supplier. read more

I have had Phone Power for almost 2 years now and I have been really happy with their service. I signed a 2 year contract, and they have the contracts available online. I reviewed the contract before signing up, so I would know what I was getting myself into. Over the 2 years, Phone Power has been down less than a handful of days, but I have a contingency plan for the occasion. Their service has been very dependable, and their setup is very simple for a bring your own device. I use HelloFax, so I have never used Phone Power for my faxing needs. I have made calls from my iPad and iPhone, without any problems. This has come in handy if my Internet goes down, which is not a result of Phone Power. In addition, it has been handy when I have been traveling; I am still able to call from the same number. I have only had to contact Phone Power a few times, and I have been happy with their customer service. read more

What kind of business plan is that?? There is a serious problem if you can't indicate what billing is going to be like after the promotional period. I have been with Phone Power for about 4-5 years now. I recently moved and was having difficulty setting up my internet, which was affecting my ability to place calls. I called Phone Power's tech support and they went out of their way to help me get my internet set up properly -something that they don't have to do, as this was a broadband issue, not a Phone Power/ VoIP issue. The tech was cordial and patient, and most importantly he was competent. It was an overall pleasant experience and I feel that PP goes above and beyond their obligations to satisfy their customers. read more

The service works very well, but their billing practices are questionable. The first year is a great deal. The second year they will raise the rate significantly (be sure to read the fine print) and the third year they have been billing my credit card $25.24 per month. Still about $10 per month cheaper than a "real" phone, but three times the initial rate and no longer worth it to me. After reading the horror stories about trying to cancel the service I think it will be easier just to cancel the credit card that they are billing. read more

I am taking away one star since faxing is a big problem. Otherwise I am a satisfied customer. I like that all my calls come to my email and I can listen to the message almost in real time. I also us the Iphone app to see what calls have come in or to listen to them. read more

I have been a customer for years, and their website for account management has been super slow. All the features takes hours to take effect like call forward, call log, rings, etc. The service for reliability has been a huge problem. I was always the box that they give you is crap, they dont even update you with a new one unless it got so bad that you asked for it. Their website is so non-responsive that I got the run around and signed up for a one year contract without the terms and condition being shown (HTTP 404 time out) so now I am switching and got stuck with a $99 termination fee when I am just one month into the contract that I never got on my screen. The call center and phone menu to get to anyway is horrible, the chat reached an agent that never responded. NOT a high tech company selling high tech phone system! read more

Do not use this company!! While I had good service the first year, after that I constantly had dropped calls. But the main reason I'm writing this review is because, before I got phonepower I hardly every got robo calls. After I signed up, I started getting hundreds of robo calls. I cancelled my service on 3/28, but they didn't shut it off until 4/2. In between that time i received 0 robo calls, which tells me phonepower was involved in those calls. I have been a customer for over 2 1/2 years now. The initial sign up, customer service and technical support when I signed up were good. Also, the phone service does still work to my satisfaction, I can not get in touch with support or customer service anymore at all. Endless waiting and no calls are returned. I recommended the service to friends, they can't even get hold of the company to sign up for service anymore. So, I don't know what happens there but I cant and recommend it anymore ! I was looking for a zero star rating, but one star is appropriate because at least their tech support department tries to be helpful most of the time. I've had phonepower for about 5 years. I first got a 2 year contract at a pretty decent rate. When it was time to renew, I got a notice (this was 3 years ago) that my contract was expiring and they would not renew at the favorable rate. After some back and forth over many days and me informing them that I could get a better deal with another provider, they agreed to renew for another 2 year period at the favorable rates. Fast forward to this year. I discovered as others have that my contract expired with NO notice and I was being billed at a monthly rate that was 300% over my previous rate. I called the billing department to inquire and was told that they do not send notice when plans and rates change and that it was my responsibility to keep track of my account. I then asked about the cancellation process and was told that they need 3 weeks notice to cancel an account so that I would be billed for the upcoming month. I asked them to send me info on the cancellation process and was sent an email with a link to fill out the cancellation request. Three days later I received an email informing me that my cancellation request (which I never submitted) had been processed. Sure enough my phone service has been disconnected and I could no longer log into the phonepower website or access the link that was provided. When I called support, I got a tech who read my account notes and was very sympathetic and said that obviously billing had misunderstood my request for info and assumed I was telling them to cancel NOW. I asked to have the account reactivated since it is paid for. I told that I would have to go through billing or sales. Sales does not have the authority to re-enable an account so I had to wait 3 days to get my phone service reactivated. This was required since my number had to be active in order to port to the new service provider. Once my number was reactivated, I still needed supervisor approval to re-enable my access to my account on the website. Please read your contract carefully. You will see that if you dispute a charge or a charge-back is initiated by the credit card company, phonepower will add a $25 fee to your account. In other words, they charge you to dispute their billing. read more

We have had Phone Power for over 2 years. People call us and hear the phone ring 7 times and then get sent to voicemail, while at our end, we hear 2 rings and miss the call. Then we try to call them back, but they're busy leaving us a message. I reported this several times, and Phone Power techs say they "have seen this before" and try calling us to see if it happens. It does, and guess what? They don't call back or try us on our cell phone numbers. So I tried their support chat. The guy, Gabriel, keeps telling me to see if "all the wires are connected" and they are, and he doesn't ask about anything else and leaves the chat w/o any further diagnostics. I was able to get their system to work using google phone , connected to a new number they gave me via my obi110 device. The big issues I had was the transfer from google phone to their number. When the phone rang there was always a delay of 5-20 secs before the other person could hear me. It was ok and did the job but the reason why they get a one is their poor customer service. I let my year of service run out and my credit card had expired. They sent me a notice to fix the credit card - that should have been their clue that I was done. But no, I get a phone call that said I had to send them a cancellation notice and if I didn't they would continue to 'charge' me and send me to collections. They refused to take a cancel notice over the phone. My electric or gas company takes cancellations over the phone but apparently in phone power's arrogance they force me to send an email; so much for the Golden Rule. I was so mad at them for their stupid policy. How dare they put a customer through the ringer. I will not ever work with them again and promised to share my bad experience. My recommendation is use google phone with obi110 device direct. I ported my land line to a cell phone company and then google could then port the number into their system. Google is also fully supporting the telephony protocol that obi110 requires so phone power is not needed. Phone powers policies are designed pad their pockets at your expense ... avoid. read more

Please read before you select this service. I ordered 12 months of service and paid in advance for the full year subscription. Everything was fine until about 9 months in I had trouble with the service. I wasn't going to renew because I had just moved and figured just let the service run out no big deal. Well little did I know it has an auto renewal feature. I had moved since starting the service as well as changed banks so all my contact info had changed. Months later I received a forwarded letter saying I owed for the box, service and collections fees. I had mailed the box back but of course didn't have tracking information from 6 months back. I was in the middle of email exchanges with company trying to resolve this bill when a collections company started calling. From that point on Phone Power no longer returns my emails or calls. They dinged my credit for over 80 points. I was willing to pay for the box and the two months of unused service but not the remaining 10. Please very careful signing a contract with them. They must be are a very desperate company if they would go to these extremes to chase $250.00. read more

They cancelled my order with no notice. They sent me an email a month ago asking for company registration papers. But I was out of the country and couldn't respond in time. When I called back, they said they had cancelled my order and there would be no way to reopen or for me to place a new order. Very inconsiderate. I have never dealt with a company with no flexibility and no consideration. The staff are always helpful, speak perfect English since they are based in Los Angeles and you can always work your way up the tech chain to someone who knows how to solve the problem. This service works at a minimum. Our internet crashes each time we use the phone, so as long as you don't mind dealing with that. go for it. Otherwise try a different service. Oh, and be sure to read the fine print. Most likely you will be signed up for a year contract and need to break it and pay the $99 fee to do it. Because, like me, the thought of keeping this service for 1 year was not worth it. And be forewarned, the low price does not include all the taxes, so the price will be loads more than what you expect. read more
